In a mega show of strength for their demand of inclusion in OBC category for reservation, the Patel community today warned that if they are not made eligible for quota, the BJP government in Gujarat will face consequences in 2017 polls. After the rally, the Patel community’s young leader Hardik Patel, who
is spearheading the agitation, said he will sit on a hunger strike at the venue till the Chief Minister (Anandiben Patel) does not come to take a memorandum from them. The numerically and economically strong Patel community of Gujarat converged here in large numbers to take part in the rally, which brought the city to a grinding halt. The ‘Maha Kranti’ ral-
ly comes after a monthlong agitation by the Patel community for their demand of reservation. “If you do not give our right (reservation), we will snatch it. Whoever will talk of interest of Patels will rule over Patels,” Hardik told the gathering. “In 1985, we had uprooted Congress from Gujarat, today there is BJP. 2017 (state election year) is coming…lotus will not
bloom in the mud, it will never bloom. If you will talk about our interest then only we will nurture your lotus,” he said, warning the state government. Patels are unrelenting even though Chief Minister Anandiben Patel earlier expressed her inability to include the community in the OBC category and requested the leaders to end the agitation and come forward

for negotiations. The CM had citied Supreme Court guidelines and judgements for her inability to include Patels in OBC category. “Some parties say you do not not know about Supreme Court guidelines (of 50 per cent cap on reservations), this cannot happen. If SC can open at 3.30 in the morning for a terrorist, then why not for the youth the future of this nation?”
Calling the recent appeal of Chief Minister Anandiben Patel to wind up their agitation while ruling out giving OBC status to Patidars owing to constitutional provisions and Supreme Court (SC) judgments as a tactic to misguide people and to suppress their agitation, youth leader of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) Hardik Patel, on Monday, roll out the plan for the Maha Kranti Rally scheduled on Tuesday. Patel also said that they would declare further course of agitation in the Tuesday rally. When asked that the CM has al-
ready ruled out OBC status for Patidars citing constitutional provisions and SC judgments, Patel said, “If the SC can be opened at 3.30 am for a terrorist, they can always change the Constitution and laws
for the development of Patidars of Gujarat, Patidars of the country and youths of the country.”Patel also made a call for ‘Ahmedabad Bandh’ on Tuesday so that the people of other communities ‘do not feel
discomfort’ owing to the large number of Patidar presence in the city. Giving details of the rally, Patel said that people would start gathering from 8 am at GMDC ground and the Maha Sabha would
commence at 11.30 am. “After completion of the Maha Sabha, a rally will be carried out from GMDC ground to RTO Circle and a team of 15 leaders will handover the memorandum to the Collector,” said Patel adding that around 25 lakh Patidars were likely to join the rally which they call Maha Kranti Rally. Patel said that around 50,000 volunteers will be available at the GMDC ground to handle the situation. Also, around 3,500 volunteers are going to be deployed to clean the roads of littering from the rally like food packets and water pouches.
Hardik Patel said amidst cheers from the crowd. “If the country’s youth come on the streets to demand their right and
if they do not get those rights, some of them will become Naxalites, some of them will become terrorists,” he said.

1,000 people fled from the ground after police started indiscriminate lathicharge. “The permission for the agitation was given from morning to evening. After the hours specified are over, it was the case of criminal trespass and violation of police notification. GMDC ground is a private property on which the agitation was staged. When the agitators showed no intent of vacating the plot, police used force to evacuate them,” said sources. Many reporters who had rushed on the spot to cover the incident also were at the receiving end as the power connection on the venue was cut off. Sources also said that several parked vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
Patel community leader Hardik detained after cops forcibly remove agitators
Hardik Patel, patidar agitation leader demanding OBC status for the community, was removed forcibly from GMDC ground, the area where he was sitting on dharna on Tuesday morning demanding that the state chief minister Anandiben Patel come personally to accept the memorandum seeking the reservation. Sources did not deny the possibility that Patel could be detained on the charges of criminal trespass (IPC Section 447). A police team escorted him to city police commissioner office.
