Historic Sceptre, ‘Sengol’, To Be Placed In New Parliament Building
Agency News: New Delhi
Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri’s Divya Darbar in Gandhinagar on May 28
Ridhima Pandit spotted outside a salon.

The inauguration of the new parliament building this Sunday will also see Prime Minister Narendra Modi install a historic golden sceptre near the Speaker’s seat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said today. This sceptre, Mr Shah said, was handed over to the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to mark the transfer of power from British to Indians. The Home Minister said this sceptre is called “sengol” - which derives from the Tamil word “semmai”, meaning “righteousness”. The sengol came into being after a chain of events that started with a simple question by Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of British India, to Prime Minister Nehru. According to historical accounts and news reports, Mountbatten had asked the soon-to-be-PM what would mark the transfer of power when India attains Independence. Prime Minister Nehru then turned to C Rajagopalachari, the country’s last Governor General, for advice. Mr Rajagopalachari, commonly known as Rajaji, told Prime Minister Nehru about the Tamil tradition of the
‘Wouldn’t Have Played Anymore..’: Rohit Sharma Reveals ‘Disaster’ After Missing 2011 ODI World Cup

Agency News: New Delhi
Team India captain Rohit Sharma opened up on the ‘disaster’ period that unfolded in his life after he missed out on India’s 2011 ODI World Cup squad. While the Men in Blue would go on to lift the World Cup at home ending the much-anticipated wait for the World Cup crown, Rohit, who had won the 2007 T20 World Cup missed out on the squad for the 2011 spectacle. It was only after 2013 that Rohit became a regular in the Indian team and was later handed the captaincy in all three formats in 2022. Recalling the past horrors of how he felt that missing the ODI World Cup squad, the 34-year-old
revealed that he didn’t watch the 2011 World Cup games except the semifinal and the final where India defeated Sri Lanka. Rohit also stated that he underwent many changes in his career during that phase where he knew if things didn’t change for the better, it could have led to a ‘disaster’ and he wouldn’t be able to play cricket anymore. “Honestly I didn’t watch the World Cup itself except the semis and the finals because I was so disappointed that I didn’t want to watch, everytime I put the TV on I felt that I could have been there, what went wrong and stuff like that,” revealed the Mumbai Indians captain in a chat with Jiocinema. The ‘Hitman’ further admitted that he had nobody but himself to blame after missing the cut. However, the setback led to Rohit making many changes to his lifestyle, to his game, and if not for that period, he knew that his ‘life was on the edge’.
high priest handing over a sceptre to a new king when he comes to power. Rajaji, reports said, said this tradition was followed during the reign of the Cholas and suggested this could mark India’s freedom from the Raj. It then fell upon Rajaji to arrange a sceptre for the historic moment. Faced with the daunting task of arranging the sceptre that will mark India’s Independence, Rajaji contacted Thiruvaduthurai Atheenam, a prominent mutt in present-day Tamil Nadu. The
then seer of the mutt accepted the responsibility. The sengol was made by Vummidi Bangaru Chetty, a jeweller in then Madras. It is five feet in length and has a ‘nandi’ bull on top, symbolising justice. According to reports, a senior priest of the mutt first handed over the sceptre to Mountbatten and then took it back. It was then sprinkled with gangajal, taken in a procession to Prime Minister Nehru and handed over to him, reportedly 15 minutes before midnight.

Ninth last season, first to final this time. That may sound exciting, but it’s just a simple Chennai Super Kings thing. Or so would Mahendra Singh

Dhoni like you to believe with his muted celebrations. But fact is, it’s a stupendous achievement as Chennai beat Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 to be in their tenth IPL final. The result is more remarkable because, defending just 172/7, the Dhoni brigade managed to chain one of the best chasing teams of the tournament. As the Titans lost their last wicket off the last ball
of the innings with their score being 157, it was also the first time that they were all out since making their debut last year. The Titans bowled well. When Darshan Nalkande over-stepped and allowed Ruturaj Gaikwad a reprieve on two, that threatened to hurt the defending champions badly. But their bowlers ensured the let-off wasn’t too costly as they kept taking pace off the ball on a somewhat sticky wicket to restrict Chennai. However, the performance of the Super Kings bowlers turned out to be a notch above their Titans counterparts as they bowled even better lines and lengths.
Lucknow Super Giants Qualify for Playoffs After String of Strong Performances Ishan Kishan’s Power Hitting in Nets is a Warning For LSG Ahead of IPL 2023 Eliminator

Agency News: Chennai
Lucknow Super Giants have managed to qualify for the playoffs in impressive fashion.
Under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir, Lucknow have played fearless cricket throughout the tournament. The team showed tremendous character after their regular skipper KL Rahul got sidelined due to an injury at the halfway point of the tournament.
Stand-in skipper Krunal Pandya has marshalled his troops well and led from the front. LSG will take on a resurgent Mumbai Indians team in the Eliminator at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 24. The winner of that match will take on the losing team of the Qualifier 1.
On the eve of Lucknow’s clash against Mumbai Indians, let is take a look at their performance in the league stage. Lucknow Super Giants made a perfect start to their campaign by winning their first fixture by 50 runs against Delhi Capitals. They lost their next match against Chennai Super Kings, which was a highscoring affair. Lucknow bounced back in style by winning two back-to-back matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In Game 30 of the tournament, Lucknow had succumbed to a humiliating defeat against defending champions. While chasing a low target of 136, the Lucknow batters had choked under pressure. When pretty much the same thing happened in the next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, it seemed that Lucknow would soon fizzle out. Besides, KL Rahul had picked up a serious injury in this match and was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the IPL.

With 439 runs to his name, Ishan Kishan has been Mumbai Indians’ second-highest run-scorer in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL). The five-time IPL champions will once again be relying on Ishan’s sublime run-scoring prowess when they take the field against Lucknow Super Giants in the first Eliminator tonight. Mumbai Indians are aiming to win the IPL title for a record sixth time. Ahead of the eliminator, the 24-year-old was seen smashing several sixes in the nets. Ishan was coming dancing down the track to take on bowlers during the practice
session. A clip of Ishan’s big-hitting prowess was shared by the Mumbaibased franchise on Instagram. “The Backlift. The Heave. The Timing. Just pure class,” the caption read. Ishan Kishan has so far notched up three half-centuries in the 16th edition of the IPL. Ishan currently has an impressive strike rate of 143.46 in IPL 2023. Ishan was recently named as the injured KL Rahul’s replacement in Team India’s World Test Championship (WTC) squad. Rahul endured an injury while fielding during an IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this month in May. Indian cricket team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, will be up against Australia in the WTC final next month. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting recently stated that Ishan Kishan, in the absence of Rishabh Pant, could end up as the X-factor for India in the WTC final.

Dahod mosque demolition: HC orders maintenance of Status Quo on land
Agency News: Dahod
The Gujarat High Court has ordered the authorities in Dahod town to maintain the current state of affairs regarding a plot of land where a century-old mosque was demolished on May 20. Justice SV Pinto has issued notices to the state government and the Dahod municipality, requiring them to respond by June 8. The court has also ordered that the status quo be maintained on the properties allegedly owned by the petitioner, Nagina Masjid Trust. The petitioner alleges that the mosque was

unlawfully demolished in violation of the Gujarat Municipalities Act and Waqf Act. The petitioner claims that the mosque has been present in the city since 1926, and the trust rented out adjacent shops to raise funds. Furthermore, the petition highlights that the authorities initiated the demolition of shops on May 15 as part of an antiencroachment drive for the Dahod Smart City project, but proceeded to demolish trust-owned shops without prior notice. A meeting was held to address the issue, but the respondents refused to acknowledge the property documents. The authorities instructed the trust to remove religious items, including the Quran, from the mosque by May 19, after Friday prayers, before the entire structure was demolished.
The petition seeks the restoration of the mosque and other unlawfully demolished Waqf properties, along with compensation.

Heavy rain inundates Bengaluru, trees uprooted, cars submerged; authorities on high-alert

Agency News: Bengaluru
Heavy rain, thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds and hailstorms lashed parts of Bengaluru on Tuesday, prompting the authorities to chalk out a plan to set up temporary monsoon control rooms spread across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The pre-monsoon rains in Bengaluru continue to cause havoc, with 52 deaths recorded over a period between April to June, as informed by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah. While some casualties were reported due to the falling trees, some died due to thunder strikes or got washed away in rainwater.
Besides Bengaluru, Old Mysuru region was massively hit by torrential rains. Several trees in the city were uprooted and branches crashed into high-tension power lines, leading to power outages in many areas. As the weather
continues to worsen, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has reportedly chalked out a plan to set up temporary monsoon control rooms spread across the city. As per reports, the authorities plan to set up 63 of these control rooms for a start, at a sub-divisional level. They will be put in operation by June. The city is also facing several issues on the infrastructural level, including newly emerging sinkholes and flooded streets, posing severe risks to commuters.

Why The Post-Karnataka Victory Path of Mallikarjun Kharge Becomes More Challenging
In a stunning turn of events, the Congress party emerged victorious in the Karnataka Assembly elections after years of political hardship. This decisive win marks a significant milestone for the party in one of India’s larger states. The recent triumph of the party and the establishment of the government mark significant turning points for the Congress, which has long been grappling with electoral defeats. As the dust settles on the Karnataka elections, it’s clear that the party’s impressive comeback owes much to the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. However, it’s worth noting that the true winner in this political battle is none other than the 88th Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge. Kharge’s tireless efforts in the lead-up to the election ensured that the party’s promises were backed up by action. By skillfully directing attention towards the minutiae, he provided the Gandhi family with abundant chances to assert their dominance.

In a significant move, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi took centre stage at a mega rally after a prolonged absence. In the aftermath of the election, Kharge deftly maintained equilibrium and oversaw the selection of the state’s chief minister through a series of extensive consultations with Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, and the Congress leadership, ultimately achieving a unanimous decision. As Kharge took to Twitter to share a snapshot of himself alongside the chief minister and the deputy chief minister designate, a sense of triumph was unmistakably etched across his visage. It is worth noting that despite Kharge’s efforts to shed his image of being under the control of the Gandhi family, he was unable to achieve significant progress. Several meetings were held with Rahul Gandhi to determine the CM and deputy CM of Karnataka, although an official decision was not made by him. Following the triumph, it was Rahul who boldly made a significant declaration regarding the success of the Congress party, refraining from mentioning the names of the party’s leaders. The pressing concerns at hand prompt us to ponder the true independence of Kharge. While he may have established himself as a resolute political figure, the extent of his autonomy remains shrouded in ambiguity. When considering whether or not he possesses the authority to make decisions independently of the Gandhis or adopt a divergent stance, the response is negative. The most significant hurdle for Kharge lies in the fact that, despite his earnest endeavours, the Gandhi dynasty is unlikely to grant him complete autonomy. Ensuring his loyalty to the Gandhis will be a perpetual obligation for him. Following the recent triumph in Karnataka, there has been a growing sentiment among the Congress party loyalists and officials alike that Mallikarjun Kharge may well be the party’s new saviour. As the state elections and the general elections of 2024 approach, Kharge faces a significant challenge in striking a balance between the pressure of public expectations and his allegiance to the Gandhi family. As a seasoned politician, Kharge possesses a deep understanding of the precarious position that non-Gandhi presidents of the Congress often find themselves in. It is noteworthy that the Gandhi family has been known to sideline Congress party presidents, such as former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and

Legal battle over “Tomato’s” escalates as restaurants clash in Gujarat HC
Sunvilla News: Ahmedabad

A legal battle over the name “Tomato,” with two restaurant companies engaging in a dispute and both claiming rights to the name has now reached the Gujarat High Court. Ahura Restaurants Private Limited, the operator of the Tomato’s restaurant chain in the city, alleges that Tomato’s Beachside Kitchen & Bar (TBKB) in Goa is unlawfully using its trademarked name. Justice S. V. Pinto has postponed a ruling and urged the Commercial Court to decide on an injunction against the use of the name by June 7.

TBKB, established in North Goa in 2018, has challenged an ex parte injunction issued by the Commercial Court. This injunction, which resulted from Ahura’s plea, ordered TBKB to stop using the names “Tomato’s” or “Tomato” from May 25, citing potential customer confusion. TBKB’s advocate, Harshit Tolia, questions the jurisdiction of the Commercial Court due to TBKB’s geographical location. On the other hand, Ahura is seeking damages of Rs 2 crore from TBKB, claiming deceptive naming practices in Goa. Ahura contends that it is the registered owner of the “TOMATO’s” trademark since 1996 and argues that TBKB’s business in Goa, operating under a similar name, is likely to cause public confusion and infringe on Ahura’s exclusive rights.

Kishan: Ravi Shastri Picks His India’s XI For WTC Final vs Australia
Agency News : New Delhi
Former head coach Ravi Shastri has picked his India’s XI for the mega World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval, next month. The Indian team management has a tough task ahead of them to pick the right balance in the XI amidst the injury crises in the camp. The absence of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah is going to make things a bit tricky for head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma. While Shastri

has suggested that India should include both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing eleven at the Oval. Under Shastri’s coaching, Indian team won a Test match at the Oval in 2021 but it was largely due to performance of India’s pace attack comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur apart from a classy hundred by the then vice-captain Rohit Sharma. Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer felt that in the absence of Bumrah, India should counter the Aussies with a couple of spinners in their XI.
“India did very well in England last time round because you had Bumrah, you had Shami, you had Shardul Thakur, and you had Mohammed Siraj,” Shastri said in ICC Review.
