Agency | New Delhi Instagram has finally added new layout options in addition to its signature square for pictures and videos in a bid to attract more advertisers and to stop users defecting to more flexible services such as Snapchat. The move is the first major alteration to the photo-sharing, social media service since Facebook Inc bought it for $1 billion in 2012, and addresses the wishes of many of its 300 million users, who have been constrained by the square format. “It boils down to giving advertisers and users more options,” said Debra Aho Williamson, a social media marketing and advertising analyst. “You want people to be able to see more of your ad. It’s something advertisers are definitely going to be interested in.” One in five photos and videos posted on the service do not fit the square format, Instagram said in a blog post.

Ola blames manual error for leaked personal user data

Agency | New Delhi Ola Cabs appears to be in a new controversy with a Chennai based user named Swapnil Midha claiming that the company leaked personal details such as mobile numbers, locations of users via SMS. Ola has commented on the issue and blamed the error on a technical fault and said that they have now fixed the error. According to Swapnil’s Facebook post Ola leaked the information of 100 customers to her via SMS. She says that the problem started three weeks back when she booked an Ola Cab and that after the ride, the VM-OLACAB started sending her messages which appeared to be garbled with “alpha-numeric messages with hashes.” Swapnil claims that Ola didn’t fix the issue and that she has received over “300 and 400 texts from them so far.” According to her, Ola was forwarding her “confirmation messages when other customers made a booking” in Bangalore and that inside the messages she found “mobile numbers, names and addresses.”

Agency | Tokya Celebrated Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu might face off in the second round of women’s singles competition if they can cross the first hurdle of the US $275,000 Japan Open Super Series beginning next week. Silver medallist at the recent World Championship, Saina will take on World No 17 Thai Busanan Ongbumrungpan in the opening round, while two-time World Championship bronze medallist Sindhu, who is unseeded

here, will open her campaign against Japan’s Minatsu Mitani, ranked 18th, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium from September 8 to 13. It could be the second clash of their career at the International stage after they met at the 2014 India Grand Prix Gold final, in which World No 1 Saina had the last laugh. The duo had come close to facing each other during the Indonesia Open Super Series Premier which was held in June this year. They were also on

course for a collision at the semifinal stage during the 2014 India Open Super Series. Saina and Sindhu had played for the first time in a competitive match during the 2013 Indian Badminton League (IBL) representing Hyderabad Hot Shots and Awadhe Warriors respectively. Among other Indians, World No. 4 Kidambi Srikanth is the only Indian to be seeded in men’s singles. He will take on Scott Evans of Ireland in the opening match.

Indian speedster Ishant Sharma was again involved in an altercation with some Sri Lankan players during the visiting team’s second innings on the fourth day of the third cricket Test here on Monday. The incident happened in the 76th and final over of the Indian second innings, which was being bowled by Dhammika Prasad. Prasad bowled a couple of bouncers which Ishant left alone and had a smile for the Lankan pacer. A bit ag-

itated, Prasad bowled a third bouncer which was illegal and promptly signalled no-ball by the umpire. Having exhausted his quota of two bouncers for the over, Prasad pitched one up and Ishant cut it towards point region for a single. But as he ran past Prasad, he started tapping his helmet with an obvious gesture to the fast bowler to try and hit him on the head. Once the run was complete, Prasad had a few words for Ishant, who was in no mood to back out and walked up

to him. Just when they were exchanging words angrily, Dinesh Chandimal while passing grazed Ishant’s shirt and added some words of his own which suddenly got Ravichandran Ashwin agitated. Ashwin drew the attention of umpires Rod Tucker and Nigel Llong who then called up Angelo Mathews to tell him to calm his players down. Still pretty angry at what happened, Prasad deliberately overstepped and bowled a fourth bouncer to Ishant after which he took a single.

He came into the county season having had a busy period where he lead England in their woeful 50-over World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand before heading off to the Twenty20 Indian Premier League. Middlesex then decided to stand him down, believing this would ensure Morgan

-- not a member of England’s Ashes-winning side -- was fit for whiteball duty against Australia. What could have been a potentially awkward situation was eased by the fact that Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser is also an England selector. “I was the one who brought it up. I sat down with Gus and discussed the pros and cons of it,” Morgan said Sunday.
