EnnYe Gallery and Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society present a composition of African animal sculptures. Majestic African stone sculptures have joined Palm Beach Zoo’s wildlife this holiday season. From now to Monday, January 5th, 2026, EnnYe Gallery and Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society present a composition of African animal sculptures that greet guests on the pathways and under the luminous holiday lights. These unique pieces are carefully brought to life by the talented Zimbabwean artists of the Shona tribe. Generations of the tribe’s sculptors have passed down the tradition and teachings of this exclusive art form. We are grateful that for the second year in a row, EnnYe is working with the Palm Beach Zoo to showcase the talents of the Shona tribe. “Our mission is to immortalize the ecosystem through stone and enriching lives through the power of art by sharing compelling works from a vibrant collective of Zimbabwean sculptors— Palm Beach Zoo, Page 5A

Our generation now has now become witness to the most extreme Antisemitism since our fathers and mothers of the greatest generation of World War II. The planned attacks from Gaza on Israeli civilians two years ago on October 7th took over 1,200 lives, 46 who were Americans. Peaceful individuals like you and me were starting their day only to be gunned down, murdered, hunted, tortured, raped, beheaded and taken as hostages. It was the worst massacre since the Nazis took over Germany. The fragile peace began and agreements to release “all” hostages alive and dead, has been underway with one hostage left. Staff Sergeant Gvilli is a Police Special Patrol Officer that rescued over 100 Nova civilians and fought the battle near Alumim, killing 14 Hamas terrorists. My belief is that many thought it was the end of the war and there was a peaceful path forward. But now we have seen it was a bell toll for

Our advice is to plan ahead. Book early, allow extra time to reach your destination, and think about travel insurance if you’re flying during winter weather. New Data Reveals Which States Are Dangerously Overspending on Consumer Purchases – Is Yours One of Them? A 30-year study shows some states’ shopping has surged 600% while credit card debt climbs 6% annually. An analysis of spending patterns reveals differences in how Americans shop across different states, with some regions showing spending increases that far outpace income growth and signal potential financial danger for millions of households. The research from InvestorsObserver, examining nearly three decades of consumer data,
found that while nationwide spending on durable goods increased by 90% since 1997, certain states have seen explosive growth exceeding 600% in the category of telephone and related communication equipment. The study analyzed state-bystate spending data from 1997 to 2024, credit card balance trends, and shifts in consumer purchasing patterns. This allows for identifying which states may be courting financial trouble through unsustainable shopping habits.

The States Where Spending Has Exploded The research identifies several states where spending growth strongly exceeds national averages. Multiple states show more than 600% growth in durable goods spending since 1997, with communication equipment and electronics spending surging over 600% in top states: North Carolina 672%, North Dakota 648%, Washington 645%, and South Dakota 614%. “These numbers represent real financial risk for families,”

Jewish People From Page 1A the sleeper cells and lone wolves to set out their twisted plans in a wave of global terror. Fact matters truly matter. Israelis have lived with attacks for over 3,000 years. Since Gaza was established, over 2,000 bombs have been sent onto her borders. Thanks to the Iron Dome, the majority have not made their way through. Israel knows that without the destruction of Hamas, Hezbollah, Isis and all terrorists there will be continued attacks. With the Abraham Accords: America, Arab Nations and the world also know there needs to be a path to peace. At the recent Combating Antisemitism Movement Summit an Arab reporter told me how the
leaders in the Arab world during this time are working towards peace but on the other hand balancing the real threats of assassination from the terrorists as well. There is no two-state solution. Gaza is proof. Also, facts always matter. The Romans conquered Judea. Like many other areas they attacked and took many out of Judea as slaves. The Romans called the area Palestine. Before this, the area was composed of nomads that came to be known as Canaanites. Tribes split and wandered and one group became the Jews. This act of war was well planned and took the lives of innocent babies, children, teens, women, elderly, and men. We have known since attacks on American soil with the horrifc events of September 11th, 2001, that the radicalized Islamic and Jihadist ideology was real. The extreme ideology’s main goal is no
Jews and then no Christians with rule under only Sharia Law. Going against Islamists is not an attack against Muslims. Sharia law is extremism. While based on the Quran the words are translated back to ancient concepts and practices. The extreme result for the lack of adherence to the laws is dealt with barbaric and inhumane treatment particularly against women who are considered half the value of a man. Control over everything women do. What still is mind boggling to me is how can these young modern people support a cause totally contrary to our civilized society especially LGBTQ+ Community. LGBTQ+ individuals face death. What can we do now? First, we cannot look away. We all need to lean in. We all cannot simply forget and go about our lives. If we ignore these threats, events like the ones this past week will

continue. We need to support our fellow Jewish neighbors. We need to stand up and speak out against all forms of hatred. Do not stand idly by allowing the dehumanization of a person or group to go unchecked. We need to support Israel. We need to support our President on this issue. We need to remain vigilant when it comes to our community and neighbors. As we celebrate the holidays let us all join together in peace. The top 5 markets with the highest demand are Orlando, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, and Phoenix. Small SUVs make up the most popular car rental class over the year-end holidays. Air Travel Soars Above 8 million AAA projects a record 8.03 million air travelers, a 2.3% increase compared to last year. This will be the first time on record that the number of domestic air travelers over the year-end holiday period exceeds 8 million. Domestic flights are 7% more expensive this year. According to AAA data, which is based on what travelers paid when they booked their holiday trips, the average ticket costs nearly $900. The days leading up to Christmas Day are the most expensive, while flying on the holiday itself is cheaper. New Year’s flights are also pricey, with many people returning home on New Year’s Day or even squeezing one extra weekend out of the holiday season and coming back on Sunday, January 4th. Travel insurance is essential, especially when winter weather and heavy travel demand increases the risk of delays and cancellations. It helps offset unexpected costs associated with rebooking fees, lost luggage, and trip interruptions. For air travelers, this protection is especially valuable during peak holiday periods when flights are full and alternative options are limited. Tips for Air Travelers • Check flight status before leaving home and sign up for airline alerts. • Arrive early. Allow at least two hours for domestic flights and three for international. • Pack smart. Keep medications, chargers, and a change of clothes in your carry-on. • Know your rights. Understand airline policies on rebooking and compensation. This data includes macroeconomic drivers such as employment, output, household net worth, asset prices including stock indices, interest rates, housing market indicators, and variables related to travel and tourism, including gasoline prices, airline travel, and hotel stays. AAA and SPGMI have quantified holiday travel volumes going back to 2000. Historical travel volume estimates come from MMGY’s TRAVEL PERFORMANCE / MonitorSM. The PERFORMANCE/MonitorSM is a comprehensive study measuring the travel behavior of U.S. residents. MMGY contacts over 50,000 U.S. households each month to obtain detailed travel data, resulting in the unique ability to estimate visitor volume and spending, identify trends, and forecast U.S. travel behavior, all after the trips have been taken. The travel forecast is reported in person-trips. In particular, AAA and SPGMI forecast the total U.S. holiday travel volume and expected mode of transportation. The King Mango Strut To Celebrate Another Outrageous Year Miami’s Weirdest Parade Marches on With Satire, Sass, And A Whole Lot Of Mango Pizzazz The King Mango Strut Parade (KMS), Miami’s most delightfully irreverent tradition, is gearing up to kick off the new year with its signature blend of satire, spectacle, and community spirit. The Strut takes over Coconut Grove on Sunday, January 4th, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Now in its 42nd year, the King Mango Strut began as a parody of the King Orange Bowl Jamboree Parade and has grown into a beloved local tradition that celebrates the weird, the wonderful, and the wildly unexpected. With over 10,000 spectators, this free event invites everyone to laugh, cheer, and dance alongside hundreds of costumed “Strutters” lampooning the year’s most talked-about headlines. It’s an expression of what makes the Coconut Grove community so special: creativity with a bit of snark, an eagerness to get together with friends and neighbors, and a willingness to not take ourselves so seriously. “We’re proud to keep that tradition going, especially in these times when we could all use a good laugh. We invite everyone to join us on January 4th, either to participate in or just experience the weirdest parade in the universe,” said Carl Levin, President of KMS. Participants are expected to satirize the weird and wonderful aspects of Miami with a bon vivant attitude using the 2026 theme “This is Fine,” based on the popular meme. “The meme is perfect for a satirical parade because it captures the absurdity of pretending everything’s okay when it clearly isn’t,” adds Levin. “It’s a feeling most people can relate to.” In the meme, a cartoon dog calmly sits in a room engulfed in flames, sipping coffee and saying, “This is fine.” It’s funny, dark, and painfully true to how people often cope with chaos, denial, or dysfunction, whether it’s in politics, the environment, or everyday life. A growing list of groups has already registered, including the annual “Running of the Bull,” “Miami Labubu,” the “Rainbow Sidewalk Crushers,” “Making Argentina Great Again,” and “Ice Ice Baby,” among others. Participation is free, but you’ll need an open mind and a good sense of humor. The Strut kicks off at the corner of Commodore Plaza and Main Highway, turns left onto Main Highway, left again onto Grand Avenue at CocoWalk, and
Overspending From Page 1A keep up with spending in high-growth states. This can eventually lead to financial difficulties.” A Cultural Shift in Consumer Behavior “The shift from buying a car or jewelry – items that last for years – to constantly upgrading phones and electronics creates a perpetual spending cycle,” explains Bourgi. “In states where this pattern is most pronounced, we’re seeing households trapped in endless upgrade cycles they can’t afford.” The data reveals a huge divide in shopping habits across America. California leading in total durable goods purchases pump billions into the economy but show concerning debt accumulation patterns. Meanwhile, other states have actually reduced spending in certain categories, with some showing 10% to 16% declines in jewelry, watches, and vehicle purchases. “The states pulling back on traditional luxury items might actually be the smart ones,” notes Bourgi. “They’re avoiding status symbol purchases that depreciate quickly.” Post-Pandemic Spending Surge The 2020 to 2024 period had a strong growth in spending across multiple states. North Carolina tops the list with an 18% change from 2020 till 2024 (inflation adjusted), and is followed by Nevada (16%), and Texas (16%).

“The pandemic created a pressure cooker effect,” Bourgi explains. “Pent-up demand, stimulus money, and changed lifestyles led to explosive spending growth that’s simply not sustainable. We’re now seeing the consequences as credit card balances climb and savings rates plummet.”
“The most expensive thing you can buy on Black Friday is the illusion that you need to match your state’s spending trends,” warns Bourgi. “Our data shows clear geographic patterns in overspending that suggest social pressure plays a huge role in driving dangerous financial behavior.”
Geographic Patterns of Financial Risk Bourgi has identified several warning signs that indicate when state-level spending patterns suggest widespread overspending. If a state’s credit card spending has grown more than three times the national average, when credit card balance growth exceeds 6% annually, when spending concentrates heavily in rapidly depreciating categories like electronics, or when spending growth strongly exceeds median income growth, residents should be particularly cautious. “Knowing your state’s spending patterns is crucial for making smart decisions,” advises Bourgi. “If you’re in a highspending state, you need to be extra vigilant about not getting swept up in the frenzy.”
Expert Recommendations for Consumers According to Bourgi, awareness is the first step toward financial safety. “If your state’s spending has grown 600%, that doesn’t mean yours should too,” he says, and recommends that consumers in highrisk states consider a cash-only strategy for seasonal shopping and focus on needs rather than wants. The data shows people are abandoning necessities for wants. “Reversing that trend is crucial for financial health. This allows you to shop smart regardless of what your neighbors are doing,” explains Bourgi.
When: Sunday, January 4th, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
The Cost of Keeping Up The research highlights how credit card interest can quickly erase any savings through seasonal discounts during Black Friday and Christmas. Various surveys show that consumers can spend months, if not more, paying off holiday debts. If a consumer carries a balance at a 20% annual percentage rate, the interest accrued in just 18 months will erase the benefit of an initial 30% discount.
About the Research Researchers from InvestorsObserver analyzed American shopping trends over the past three decades. The focus was on state-by-state and national sales data for durable goods, credit card transaction volumes, and shifts in consumer spending across key product categories like electronics, appliances, furniture, sporting goods, and jewelry. The Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) data was collected from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Palm Beach Zoo From Page 1A celebrating both seasoned male and female artists and nurturing the next generation of emerging talent,” said Vini Mutsemi, EnnYe’s Director of Exhibitions. From the southern parts of Africa to the southern parts of the United States, 20-25 spectacular sculptures will be displayed throughout the holiday season. Intricate stonework stands throughout the Zoo towering three to seven feet tall. The display of these sculptures allows the aligned values of both organizations to grow. As visitors see the spectacle of lights at Zoo Lights, they also have new sights to take in and share with others if they choose. And should a piece deeply resonate with a guest, these sculptures can be purchased through the organization’s team and their marketplace. While this artwork is exclusive to the Shona tribe, there are opportunities to see live demonstrations thanks to this collaboration. A section of the zoo will become an open studio to see celebrated artist, Brighton Tendayi, creating scaled versions of wildlife. These inanimate creations have proven they can bring life to a child’s creative curiosities and enhance the family-friendly experience the Zoo offers. As guests observe Brighton’s unique talent, it becomes a talking point for children and their families. It opens the door to foreign art in a comfortable, exciting environment. Ultimately the environment Brighton and the gallery help the Zoo create is one of inspiration, through both the animate and inanimate, to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world. This partnership is a means to “celebrate the wonder of the sculptures while capturing and complementing the natural beauty of the Zoo,” according to the gallery. Both the Palm Beach Zoo and EnnYe seek to strengthen conservation efforts to allow future generations to see the wonders of wildlife like those of the African continent.
These unique pieces are carefully brought to life by the talented Zimbabwean artists of the Shona tribe.

7 Ways To Create A Sensory-Friendly Holiday Celebration For Kids With Autism Whether it’s a festive family dinner or a party, a holiday celebration is often meant to be a joyful time of connection. However, for many Autistic children and their families, a holiday get-together can present unique challenges. Sensory sensitivities, changes to familiar routines, and increased social expectations may make festive environments feel overwhelming or distressing. Recognizing and respecting these differences is key to creating a more inclusive and supportive holiday experience for everyone involved. As the CEO of Above and Beyond Therapy, where we provide personalized ABA therapy in Georgia, I’ve seen firsthand how thoughtfulness, flexibility, and inclusion can positively shape holiday gatherings for children with Autism and their families. With intentional planning and compassion, traditions and environments can be adapted so every child feels safe, supported, and empowered to engage in ways that respect their individual needs and preferences. Here are seven ways to create a sensoryfriendly holiday celebration that supports Autistic children.
feel uncomfortable for children with autism. Preparing ahead of time with social stories or role-playing common scenarios can help set clear expectations. Reassure the child that it’s okay to wave instead of hug, take breaks from conversations, or communicate in their own way. It’s also helpful to inform guests in advance so they understand and respect the child’s boundaries. Authentic connection should always take priority over social norms.
Communicate With Family and Friends Open communication is essential for creating a supportive holiday event. Talk with family members or hosts ahead of time about your child’s needs, preferences, and boundaries. Share what helps them feel comfortable and what may be overwhelming. This isn’t about apologizing; it’s about advocating. Let others know the child may need breaks, may not participate in every activity, or may express joy differently. Encouraging
sensory-friendly choices, we help ensure every child feels seen, valued, and welcome. Matt Rokowsky is the CEO at Above and Beyond Therapy in Georgia, which is dedicated to helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorder thrive and reach their fullest potential. In his role, Matt educates others on how to support Autistic individuals, challenge stigmas, and understand the unique strengths and challenges they may face. He and his experienced
Respect and Maintain Predictable Routines Children with Autism often thrive on structure and predictability. A holiday event can disrupt daily routines, such as mealtimes, sleep schedules, or familiar activities, which may increase anxiety or emotional dysregulation. To help ease this transition, try to keep as much of the child’s regular routine intact as possible on the day of the event. Using visual schedules, countdowns, or social stories can help prepare the child for what to expect. Letting them know when it will start and end and what activities might happen can also reduce uncertainty. Even small efforts, such as keeping bedtime consistent or eating familiar foods beforehand, can help a child feel more grounded. Create a Quiet Space for Regulation Holiday celebrations often involve noise, crowds, and constant activity. For children with sensory sensitivities, having access to a quiet, calming space is essential. Designate a room or area where the child can take breaks as needed. This space might include soft lighting, noisecanceling headphones, weighted blankets, favorite toys, or books. If you’re attending an event outside your home, consider bringing a small sensory kit and asking the host in advance if a quiet space is available. Allowing a child to step away without judgment helps prevent sensory overload and supports emotional regulation. Be Mindful of Sensory Overload From bright decorations and loud music to strong scents and lots of movement, a holiday celebration can be filled with intense sensory input. Thoughtfully adjusting the environment can make a significant difference. Opt for soft or adjustable lighting instead of flashing lights, keep music at a lower volume, and avoid strong fragrances when possible. Introducing sensory elements gradually and respecting a child’s need to opt out is important. Offering alternatives, such as quiet crafts, familiar games, or one-on-one activities, will also allow children to engage without feeling overwhelmed.
Children with autism often thrive on structure and predictability.
A holiday get-together can be meaningful and joyful for Autistic children when their needs are respected and supported. Thoughtful planning, flexibility, and clear communication go a long way in creating a positive experience.
Give Choices and Respect Autonomy Holiday traditions can be meaningful, but they should never override a child’s comfort or sense of control. Giving children choices helps them feel empowered and respected. You might ask, “Would you like to help decorate or take a break nearby?” or “Do you want to stay for the whole get-together or just part of it?”If a child chooses not to participate in certain activities, honor that decision without pressure. Connection and emotional safety matter more than following traditions exactly as planned. Prepare for Social Interactions A holiday celebration often includes extended family, friends, or unfamiliar guests, which can create added social pressure. Expectations around greetings, conversation, or physical affection may
Plan Food Options Needs in Mind Holiday events often center around food, which can be challenging for children with sensory sensitivities or selective eating preferences. Including familiar, preferred foods alongside traditional dishes can help the child feel safe and included. There’s no need to pressure them to try new foods during the celebration. If the event is at someone else’s home, bringing along favorite snacks or a familiar meal can ease stress and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.
empathy, flexibility, and understanding helps create a truly inclusive environment. Put Connection and Inclusion at the Heart of the Celebration! A holiday get-together can be meaningful and joyful for Autistic children when their needs are respected and supported. Thoughtful planning, flexibility, and clear communication go a long way in creating a positive experience. At its core, a holiday celebration is about connection, not perfection. By prioritizing inclusion and

Broward Performing Arts Foundation’s Annual Reception And Brunch Kicks Off Broward Center’s 2025-2026 Performance Season The Broward Performing Arts Foundation Annual Reception and Brunch kicked off the new season for donors and benefactors with a look back at history and a preview of the programming to come at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The event, generously underwritten by J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., had a decidedly French theme with guests arriving to have their photos taken before a backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. Highlighting the Annual Reception was a presentation by award-winning author, historian, master storyteller, and distinguished professor of American History at Lynn University Dr. Robert Watson, who brought to life the history behind the show that revolutionized Broadway musicals, the Tony Awardwinning Les Miserables, coming to the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center from Tuesday, December 16th, 2025 Sunday, December 28th, 2025. Broward Performing Arts Foundation President Lisa Kitei welcomed guests, introduced the board and announced two upcoming fundraisers for the Broward Center: Winter Wonderland A “Frozen” Family Celebration on Sunday, December 14th, 2025 and the Foundation’s 2026 Annual Celebration with Darius Rucker on Saturday, March 7th. Tables for the Annual Celebration pre-show dinner are sold out; however, VIP tickets for lower orchestra seating and the post-show tailgate party are still available. Foundation Board Chair Dev Motwani spoke about his connection to the Broward Center starting at an early age. “My high school graduation was one of the first held here. I had the good fortune of speaking as valedictorian at the ceremony, so to be here speaking before you now as Board Chair, I have come full circle.” Motwani, who was reintroduced to the Broward Center when he served as Chair of the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Economic Development Advisory Board, said, “It was then when I started to understand the Broward Center’s true economic impact. What your support does here for the community helps fund the largest free arts education program in the United States benefiting more than 100,000 students from 150 Broward schools annually through more than 50 education programs.” Broward Center President and CEO Ty Sutton previewed highlights of the upcoming season, including the Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale series and the MD Now Slow Burn Theatre Company series. “At a time where we see arts groups throughout the United States, especially some of the largest performing arts centers, reducing programs, we keep expanding and growing and that is thanks to all of you,” Sutton said. “I am excited for this upcoming season.” For nearly 40 years, the Broward Performing Arts Foundation has been instrumental in providing support for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Foundation was established in 1985 to deliver the required private funding to build the Center and create an endowment to sustain its operations. Over the years, the Foundation has successfully raised funds to support the Broward Center’s innovative and diverse programming, arts-in-education initiatives, community engagement activities and capital projects. In 2021, the Foundation completed a $30 million capital campaign to renovate and restore the iconic Parker Playhouse. Prior to this, it raised $60

Can American Families Still Afford the Christmas They Grew Up With? By Sam Bourgi
The short answer is no, I don’t believe families can afford Christmases from their childhood. And my answer is not based on nostalgia or whether you even should try to afford it, but on the rising costs of things that define Christmas for us. Each year, Americans spend more and more on gifts, on food, and on this holiday in general. And I think it is crazy, how can 50% of people plan to spend more than $150 on decorations alone? While it may sound harsh, this makes me think that most people are either wealthier than portrayed or very poor at planning their budgets and managing expectations. Yet I agree that each household views Christmas in different ways. For some, it is solely a tradition, while for others, it is only a time for giftgiving. Regardless, prices are increasing, and by being surrounded by consumerist culture, most of us give in to the discounts and maybe buy things that are not necessary. However, your spending should reflect your values, especially when talking about the increased cost of this celebration. To understand the dramatic shift in prices, let’s look at the prices we grew up with. For 42 years, PNC Bank has calculated the prices of the 12 gifts from the classic song, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” The Christmas Price Index in the U.S. stood at over $51,400 in 2025. But did you know how much it was in 1984? A few drops over $20,000. Actually, according to the website, counting each repetition of the song, it would amount to 364 presents or over $218,000 this year. A dollar today buys only 46% of what it could buy back then. In 1995, $1 had the same purchasing power as approximately $2.13 today. It experienced an average inflation rate of 2.55% annually from 1995 to the present, resulting in a total price increase of 112.58%. Here is another example of how crazy the cost of everything has grown. Remember the movie Home Alone? How many of you have already watched it this year, or maybe are planning to during Christmas? As the celebrations approach unstoppably, most of us are hit with expenses that reach sky-high numbers. However, in the movie, Christmas appears so easy, manageable, and affordable. However, it is far from the truth today, and what may have looked like a celebration every family could afford is now out of reach. In the movies, the McCallister family has five children. Investors Observer has reported that when you compare basic child-rearing costs with average family income, many American families would be tens of thousands of dollars short if they
wanted to raise five children. And that excludes birthdays, toys, and all the maybe not-so-necessary things to buy, but those that make the child’s life better. In my opinion, no, not many families can afford what they grew up with. And while some could have compared themselves to the McCallisters back in 1990, today you should be part of the exclusive 1%. Even the house the McCallisters currently live in is worth over $5 Million, with a more than 200% increase in the last 10 years. This does not indicate a shift in values, nor does it suggest that families should consider this a failure, rather, it highlights the economic shift we are now facing.

Bondi Beach Will Only Make Us Stronger By Rabbi Moishe Kievman Chabad Chayil
We are shocked and deeply saddened. The horrific attack in Sydney feels painfully close to home. A moment meant to spread light and joy was shattered by darkness, taking the life of a beloved Chabad Shliach and 14 others - leaving families and communities broken. It hit so hard because it was targeted at the very first public Menorah lighting of the year - a moment when Jewish light was about to shine out into the world. They wanted to send a message of fear. They wanted us to hide, to shrink, to doubt the power of our flame. But they don’t understand our story. Our flame was born in darkness. For over 2,000 years, it has survived every attempt to extinguish it, but it doesn’t break and it doesn’t disappear. It shines - sometimes even brighter because of the darkness around it. As the Rebbe taught us, “Every blow meant to break us becomes a reason to grow stronger.” So today, we mourn deeply, pray for the families who are grieving and for the wounded who are fighting to recover. And at the same time, we reaffirm who we are as a people. We respond to darkness with more light. We respond to hate with more love. We respond to fear with courage, unity, and Jewish pride. There are many that were understandably scared to attend public Menorah lightings this year. But the Jewish way is not to hide. That would be giving in to their terror. The Jewish way is to celebrate Chanukah together as a community and kindle the Menorah together as one family. At Chabad Chayil’s Great Chanukah Fair this year, over a thousand people came together and showed the world loud and clear that Am Yisrael Chai. Please show up at a Chanukah event near you. This year even many non-Jews were setting up large display Menorahs wherever possible. There were several different options available at many online sources. We hope and pray for an end to all violence in the world and the eradication of
all evil. We know that at the end, goodness and light will prevail, and that even though we are outnumbered, righteousness will endure. We wish thaty you and your family had a very happy Chaunkah with days filled with light, warmth, joy and always increased positive energy, just like the Menorah lights that increased with each day. May the memory of the victims be a
blessing. May healing come swiftly to the wounded. And may the lights of Chanukah have brought comfort, strength, and hope to Jews everywhere. Now it’s the turn for each and every one of us to be the Light — now more than ever. About the author: Rabbi Kievman together with his wife

Homemade Pumpkin Ravioli with White Wine and Herb Butter Sauce Recipe courtesy of Marge Perry and David Bonom Servings: 4 Ravioli: • 1 Can of 15 ounces of Pumpkin Puree • 1 Large Egg, lightly beaten • 1/3 Cup of grated Pecorino Romano cheese, plus additional for serving (optional) • 2 Tablespoons of Plain Dried Breadcrumbs • 2 Teaspoons of Sugar • 1/4 Teaspoon of Salt • 1 Pinch of Ground Nutmeg • 48 Round Dumpling Wrappers • Water Sauce: • 6 Tablespoons of Cold Unsalted Butter, divided • 1/3 Cup of Chopped Shallots • 2/3 Cup of Dry White Wine • 3 Tablespoons of Heavy Cream • 2 Tablespoons of Chopped Fresh Sage • 1 Tablespoon of Chopped Fresh Chives • 1/4 Teaspoon of Salt To make the Raviolis: Line the fine mesh sieve with a dampened cheesecloth. Add the Pumpkin Puree and strain it
for 1 hour. Transfer it to a bowl and stir in the Egg, the Cheese, the Breadcrumbs, the Sugar, the Salt and the Nutmeg. Arrange six dumpling wrappers on the work surface in a single layer. Place 1 Tablespoon of the Pumpkin Mixture in the center of each one and brush the edges with Water. Place a second wrapper over filling, carefully pushing out any air bubbles then pressing the edges to seal them. Transfer the Raviolis to a baking sheet covered with parchment paper. Place a sheet of plastic wrap over the Raviolis. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling. In a KitchenAid Evergreen Design Series 6-Quart Ceramic Stockpot over medium heat, bring the Salted Water to a gentle simmer. To make sauce: In a KitchenAid Evergreen Design Series 3-Quart Ceramic Saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 1 Tablespoon of Butter. Add the Shallots and cook them, stirring them occasionally, for about 1 minute. Add the wine and bring it to a boil, then cook it until the mixture resembles wet sand, for about 8 - 9 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low and whisk in the remaining Butter and the Heavy Cream until melted. Stir in the Sage, the Chives and the Salt; keeping it warm and stirring it occasionally. To cook the Raviolis, add half to the simmering Water and cook it, stirring it gently once or twice, 3 minutes. Remove them with the slotted spoon and divide it between two plates. Add remaining the Raviolis to the pot and repeat the process, dividing it between the remaining plates. Spoon the Sauce over the Raviolis and serve them with additional Grated Cheese, if desired.
