William “Bill” Julian Funeral Services Will Be This Saturday William “Bill” Julian proudly served as a City Commissioner and Vice Mayor for twelve years, bringing forth many agenda items, contributing toward the positive growth, in Hallandale Beach. He will leave behind a stellar record of public service, including: Membership in The Kiwanis Club Of Hallandale Beach, The Italian American Club, The American Legion Post 310 and as a public servant, to the residents who voted him into office. Bill will be remembered, for his affable personality and indefatigable energy, volunteering and raising funds, for local charities. As an active Kiwanis Member, for over twenty years, Bill exhibited a style of leadership that others could emulate and always, conquering obstacles, without complaints. Bill raised tens of thousands of dollars, benefitting The Kiwanis Club Of Hallandale Beach, The Hallandale High School Key Club and The Hallandale Police Athletic and Activities League, through his Annual Pasta Dinner Fundraiser. Bill could develop a simple idea into a profitable fundraiser, by organizing and selling tickets to the event with all of the proceeds going to charity. When Hurricane Wilma devastated South Florida in 2005, Bill could be seen handing out bags of sand to the community and joined a convoy after Hurricane Katrina. One of my fondest memories with Bill was taking deserving children shopping at Christmas Time, at Walmart for, The Annual Shop With A Cop Event. Police Officers and volunteers would escort children, who were lucky enough to receive a gift card, entitling them to purchase video games or clothing. One year, Bill chaperoned a family of three children, who all wanted bicycles, but the gift card limit was insufficient to cover the cost. Bill dipped into his pocket and made up the difference, including buying a safety helmet, for each child. Hallandale Beach lost a true gentleman and a great role model and public servant. Rest In Peace, Bill Julian, you personify being a true American! Services will be held Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 - 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church 542 Blue Heron Drive in Hallandale Beach. Following the mass the the Celebration of Life will proceed to the Veteran’s Memorial of Hallandale Beach City Hall and refreshments to follow at the American Legion Post 310: 225 SE 1st Ave. in Hallandale Beach. Donations in honor can be made payable to the American Legion Post 310.

Sick Of Feeling Like A Helpless Bystander? People Feel Powerless And Hopeless, But We Aren’t America is in a dark place right now. If you’re frustrated by the dissension and angst going on at every level of government and citizen life, you’re certainly not alone. But Elaine Parke has a rather pointed question for you: What are you doing, right now, to change it? “People feel powerless and hopeless, but we aren’t,” insists Parke, author of The Habits of Unity: 12 Months to a Stronger America…one citizen at a time. “We don’t have to accept self-interest, intolerance, and incivility as the new normal. In fact, if we’re not intentionally living in ways that counter these forces, then we are part of the problem.” Parke is on a campaign against insensitive compliance with the status quo. She is

convinced we can create a better, more unified America. We can drastically improve our own mental health at the same time. And it’s not just that we can. It’s that we must. “We don’t have to be helpless bystanders,” she says. “We can transform our own lives; treat others with dignity, respect, and kindness; and create a healthier nation in the process. Mental wellness and good citizenship go hand-inhand.” Parke admits her book might appear a bit “lightweight” given its emphasis on subjects like peace, helpfulness, and gratitude. But look deeper. You’ll see that it’s a statement of reckoning on Bystander?, Page 7A

COVID Strikes Again In My Line of Work, I See What I See By Tracy Renee Lee

an illness for some. For others, not so much. As a funeral director, I see the uptick and decline in deaths in a real-time situation, especially in the area in which I live. I understand that people are afraid of the vaccine. It remains unproven and without COVID Strikes, Page 4A
