Lycoming County Seeks Resident Input on Broadband Access and Availability

WILLIAMSPORT, Lycoming County - Lycoming County Planning and Community Development (PCD) staff have combined ef-

forts with the firm ECC Technologies to utilize grant funding in the preparation of a Broadband Engineering and Deployment Readiness Plan. In order to improve broadband internet access in Lycoming County residents and businesses are asked to participate in a survey to determine the needs and opportunities for the provision of broadband services within the county.

County residents are encouraged to visit www. lycomingbroadband.com to take the broadband survey. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete. This survey effort represents the first step of creating a broadband inventory. Data from this survey along with field inspections will be used to validate the inventory. Paper copies of the survey will be available at local libraries throughout the County, the County Planning & Community Development Department, and at participating municipal offices.

The Lycoming County

Department of Planning and Community Development encourages County residents to share this survey with any family, friends, co-workers and neighbors who do not have adequate internet access. The aggregated survey findings may be used by the county to apply for grants, create areas of focus, engage with ISPs, and develop future strategies to expand broadband accessto both unserved or underserved locations in Lycoming County. Individual responses to the survey will not be released to any third party.

The broadband survey will remain open until the desired response rate is achieved or for 90 days.

MEDIA RELEASE

“Broadband infrastructure development and deployment is vital to the continued growth and success of the County of Lycoming as a whole. Access to broadband internet services impact important aspects of our community such as business

development, education, quality of life, and the enhancement of our various community services. Lycoming County, through private sector partnerships, will seek to encourage the utilization of funding available through state and federal resources to improve broadband access to both unserved and underserved locations across the county. With innovations in technology, shifting federal policies, and changing legislative initiatives related to wireless communications infrastructure, it is important to find a balance in the methods required to deliver this service. This balance should ensure that citizens of the County have necessary infrastructure while also preserving the character of the community we call home.”

– Lycoming County Board of Commissioners Contact: broadband@lyco.org

Participate in the survey at www.lycomingbroadband.com. The survey closes June, 30 2025.

The GIANT Company, in proud partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, today announced the return of the Healing the Planet Grant Program. The Healing the Planet Grant Program, funded by The GIANT Company and known locally as GIANT and MARTIN’S, aims to invest in tree plantings across the company’s operating areas in Pennsylvania. A total of $112,000 in funding will be awarded to tax-exempt organizations for tree planting projects this year. Eligible projects must be shovel ready and include tree planting and direct costs relating to tree planting.

“From providing food and keeping the streets of our communities cool to providing canopy and habitat for wildlife, trees benefit us every day,” said Courtney Hopcraft, manager of community relations and charitable giving, The GIANT Company. “Building off the success of last year’s program which added more than 3,000 trees to communities across the Commonwealth, we’re excited to once again join forces with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to bring more trees to our communities. Together, we’re creating greener, healthier neighborhoods for all to enjoy while also supporting the health and wellbeing of our team members and customers.”
