Quién es Jacob van Rijs? Mi nombre es Jacob van Rijs (Amsterdam, 1965). Soy un arquitecto nacido en Holanda, planificador urbano y uno de los directores fundadores de MVRDV, un estudio interdisciplinario con base en Rotterdam que trabaja en la intersección de la arquitectura y el urbanismo. Con Winy Maas y Nathalie de Vries, establecí la galardonada oficina en 1993. En 25 años formamos una compañía sólida con una amplia variedad de tipologías de edificios y escalas autogeneradas, innovadoras, experimentales y teóricas. Soy profesor en la Universidad Técnica de Berlín, también soy presidente de Archiprix, un concurso para jóvenes arquitectos emergentes desde 2016 y fui nombrado miembro de la Junta de Comercio de Holanda en 2014.

I am a Dutch architect and urban planner and one of the founding principals of MVRDV, a Rotterdam based interdisciplinary studio that works at the intersection of architecture and urbanism. With Winy Maas and Nathalie de Vries, I set up the award- winning practice in 1993. In 25 years we established a solid company with a wide-variety of building typologies and scales that are self-generated, innovative, experimental and theoretical. I am a professor at the Technical University of Berlin, am the chairman of the Archiprix, the price for young emerging architects, since 2016 and was appointed Board Member of the Dutch Trade Board in 2014.

¿Cuál fue el primer proyecto encargado? El primer proyecto encargado a MVRDV fue Villa VPRO (1993), una empresa de radiodifusión holandesa. Éramos muy jóvenes en ese momento, todavía en la veintena, y cuando llamaron a la puerta pensamos, ¡wow!, vamos a saltar a lo desconocido, pero va a ser increíble. El edificio laberíntico en sí mismo era un manifiesto en el momento.
What was the first project commissioned? The first project commissioned MVRDV did was Villa VPRO (1993). The VPRO is a Dutch broadcasting firm. We were very young at that time, still in our twenties, and when they knocked on the door we thought, wow, we are going to jump into the unknown but it is going to be amazing. The labyrinthic building itself was a manifesto at the time.
La VPRO era una compañía muy avanzada. Querían una especie de contraofensiva donde la gente se reuniera alrededor de las mesas de la cocina, como una familia con muchos miembros viviendo allí. Les dimos precisamente eso.
The VPRO was a very advanced company. They wanted a sort of anti-office where people gather around kitchen tables, like a family with a lot of members living there. We gave them just that.

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de tu profesión y qué menos? ¡Es un gran trabajo! Cada proyecto tiene sus partes interesantes: nuevos clientes, nuevas preguntas, nuevo contenido. Siempre es una sensación diferente cuando un diseño se convierte en realidad. Trabajo principalmente desde nuestra sede central en Rotterdam, pero también viajo mucho ya que tenemos proyectos en casi 50 países y una segunda oficina en Shanghai, y acabamos de inaugurar una oficina en París hace un par de meses. Lo que me gusta de nuestra sede central en Rotterdam es que aquí tenemos mucha energía y buen ambiente, con muchas nacionalidades diferentes. Arquitectos de todas partes del mundo quieren trabajar aquí porque tenemos algo que ofrecer que no tienen en casa.
What do you like most about your profession and what less? It is a great job! Every project has its interesting parts: new clients, new questions, new content. It is always a sensation when a design becomes reality. I work mainly from our headquarters in Rotterdam, but also travel a lot since we have projects in almost 50 countries and a second off ice in Shanghai and we just opened up an off ice in Paris a couple of months ago. What I like about our headquarters In Rotterdam is that is that we have great energy at atmosphere here, with many different nationalities. Architects from all over want to work here because we have something to offer they don’t have at home.
El ARQUITECTO INTERNACIONAL A lo largo de su carrera, ha trabajado en numerosos e importantes proyectos en todo el mundo, ¿cuál recuerda de manera especial? No me gusta cuando la gente pregunta por mis proyectos favoritos. Es como elegir entre tus hijos. Si quizás tengo que señalar proyectos especiales, elegiría Casa Kwantes en Schiedam, viviendas sociales Mirador en Madrid, el Museo Danés del Rock en Roskilde, el centro comunitario KU.BE en Copenhague y el Centro Cultural Matsudai en Japón. También nuestro primer proyecto de vivienda en Amsterdam, Wozoco, un proyecto muy especial para mí. Proyectos como la Expo 2000 en Hannover, el Market Hall en Rotterdam y el Sky Garden en Seúl tuvieron un gran impacto y la cobertura de los medios fue enorme. Pero un proyecto más pequeño también puede ser gratificante: cuando las cosas se combinan y funcionan bien, es igual de emocionante".
Throughout his career he has worked on numerous and important projects all over the world, which he remembers in a special way? I don’t like it so much when people ask for my favorite projects. It is like choosing between your children. If I have to pinpoint special projects I would chose Casa Kwantes in Schiedam, Mirador social housing in Madrid, the Danish Rock Museum in Roskilde, the community centre, KU.BE in Copenhagen and Matsudai Cultural Center in Japan. Also our f irst housing project in Amsterdam, Wozoco, is special for me. Projects like Expo 2000 in Hannover, the Market Hall in Rotterdam and the Sky Garden in Seoul had big impact and the media coverage was huge. But a smaller project can also be rewarding: when things come together and work well, it is just as exciting.

¿Cómo concibes o qué significa la arquitectura para ti? Es una pregunta muy amplia. En mi opinión, la arquitectura es mejor cuando es clara, sostenible y contribuye a un mundo mejor. Encuentro que el contexto del entorno construido es de extrema importancia, como lo es el humanismo: los arquitectos deben ser conscientes del impacto que tienen en la vida cotidiana de las personas. ¿En qué proyectos trabajas actualmente? Varios pero que aún no podemos revelar. Dos proyectos fueron entregados recientemente: el primero es "Salt", una oficina abierta en el puerto reconstruido de Amsterdam, con una fachada de vidrio y hormigón distintiva y espacios amplios tipo loft. El segundo es el diseño de la nueva fachada de hormigón con vetas de resina de la tienda insignia de Bulgari en Kuala Lumpur. Este escaparate es el primero de una serie de diseños de fachadas MVRDV para la marca de lujo.
How do you conceive or what does architecture mean to you? This is a very broad question. In my opinion architecture is best when it is clear, sustainable and contributes to a better world. I f ind the context of the built environment is of extreme importance, as is humanism: architects should be aware of the impact they have on everyday lives of people. What projects are you currently working on? Many that we can not reveal yet. Two projects were recently delivered: the f irst is Salt, an open off ice at the redeveloped port of Amsterdam, with distinct glass and concrete façade and large, roughly f inished, loft-like spaces. The second is the design of the new façade from concrete with resin veins of Bulgari’s flagship store in Kuala Lumpur. The storefront is the f irst in a series of MVRDV façade designs for the luxury brand.

Gustavo Dellien Bianchi “La arquitectura es dinámica, agresiva y moderna”
C
omprometido y apasionado por la arquitectura, así se define el arquitecto paceño Gustavo Dellien Bianchi. Destaca que el primer proyecto importante que desarrolló en Santa Cruz, ciudad en la que reside desde hace 21 años con su familia, fueron las oficinas de la petrolera Enron, luego llamada Transredes S. A., y junto a esta empresa diseñó y construyó muchos trabajos alrededor de Bolivia. También le fue encargada la obra del edificio de ITC Tower, uno de los primeros que se desarrollaron en la zona de Equipetrol Norte. Gustavo Dellien Bianchi "Architecture is dynamic, aggressive and modern" Committed and passionate about good architecture work, this is how the architect from La Paz Gustavo Dellien Bianchi is defined. He emphasizes that the first important project he developed in Santa Cruz, the city where he has lived for 21 years with his family, were the offices of Enron oil company, later called Transredes SA, and together with this company he designed and built many works around Bolivia. Son piezas de formato pequeño, baldosas, que se fabrican con un cemento pigmentado en moldes y se trabajan con una prensa hidráulica, de ahí el nombre. Aparecieron por primera vez en Francia, en 1867 con estampados y diseños que despertaron el interés de arquitectos y artistas logrando espectaculares colecciones cerámicas con acabados únicos, con dibujos florales y formas geométricas.

Renewed Hydraulic mosaics With years of history on their backs, hydraulic mosaics are again imposed on current decoration and construction. They are pieces of small format, tiles, which are manufactured with a cement pigmented in molds and are worked with a hydraulic press, hence the name. LA FOTOGRAFÍA Su llegada al mundo de la arquitectura fue pura casualidad. Encargó el proyecto de su estudio fotográfico a unos arquitectos que le permitieron pagar con fotos de sus edificios. En ese momento se le abrieron las puertas a un mundo desconocido y sugerente que le generó posibilidades tanto para documentar los proyectos como para generar las imágenes. Ha realizado trabajos de fotografía de arquitectura en España y muchos otros países, sobre todo de Europa y América. También se destaca el seguimiento fotográfico realizado mensualmente a lo largo de diez años de las infraestructuras de Andalucía: carreteras, hidráulicas y ferroviarias. ¨Me gusta fotografiar la arquitectura que es respetuosa con el entorno, aquella donde el arquitecto ha puesto en diálogo su proyecto con el contexto. Me gusta identificarme con aquello que fotografío, me es más fácil sentir lo que el arquitecto ha querido transmitir y a mi me es más fácil representarlo¨, explica.

His arrival in the world of architecture was pure chance. He commissioned a photography studio project to some architects that allowed him to pay with photos of his buildings. At that moment the doors were opened to an unknown and suggestive world that generated possibilities both to document projects and generate the images. He has done architectural photography work in more than 15 countries and in Spain. However, highlights the photographic monitoring of Andalusian infrastructures such as roads, hydraulics and railways, monthly, for more than ten years. "I like to photograph architecture that is respectful with the environment, one where the architect has put his project in dialogue with the context. I like to identify with what I photograph, it´s easier for me to feel what the architect wanted to convey and it´s easier for me to represent it", he explains.

EL MEDIO AMBIENTE También llamados techos vegetales son aquellos que contienen elementos vegetales vivos como parte integral del sistema total del techo. Sus características y tamaño varían según el objetivo que se busca, desde purificar el aire, mejorar el entorno o como aislante térmico. Entre sus beneficios, además de agregar un valor extra estético, reducen el calor en las zonas urbanas, reducen la contaminación ya que absorben partículas de polvo y gases, se puede cultivar vegetales y, en general, mejoran la calidad de vida de quienes habitan estos edificios. Por su aporte al medio ambiente y el ahorro energético que brinda, los techos verdes son un elemento importante a la hora de diseñar y construir, en especial cuando se está interesado en la arquitectura sostenible.

Para reconocer el valor más profundo de la institución, dan a conocer una breve reseña de los inicios de su institución. Surge a iniciativa de un conjunto de profesionales, miembros del equipo denominado “Club Ingenieros”, decidiendo conglomerar a todos los ingenieros civiles que radicaran en la ciudad de Sucre, para conformar una sólida Entidad Profesional que pudiera constituirse en un referente de opinión técnica, de los destinos de la Ciudad Blanca de América. Siendo los ingenieros Gualberto Rivera Cortéz, Hernán Zuleta Saravia y Tomás Chura los que tuvieron la visión de tener una institución colegiada en la rama de la ingeniería civil. To recognize the deepest value of the institution, they have provided a brief overview of the beginnings of their institution. El 10 de julio de 1993 se firma el Acta de Fundación del Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Chuquisaca. Su primera mesa Directiva, Directorio Ad-Doc, fue posesionada el 28 de octubre de 1994. Gracias a las gestiones del Ingeniero René Curcuy se concluyeron los trámites de constitución del Colegio y a través de Resolución Prefectural 31/2000 de 01 de marzo del 2000, el señor Prefecto otorga Personalidad Jurídica al COLEGIO DE INGENIEROS CIVILES DE CHUQUISACA CIC-CH.
