The site is located at intersection of industrial and residential area, which gives more potential and considerations to this project. On the one hand, we should fully satify clients’ demands. On the other hand, we should also aiming to create a delightful spot for the local community.
WEEK 1 Scheme 1
5
7
This scheme is the first attempt of ultilizing different shape rather than square. Curve can create a gesture of welcoming to visitors. At the back of the site, this shape can be used to develop a semi-public space for both stuffs and residences.
WEEK 1 Scheme 2
9
11
This scheme is a safer idea maining focus on function arrangement and space quality. I tried to create a special space under office floor. But regard to the size of uper floor, creating this kind of canopy can be a very dangerous idea. The darkness can make the space unfriendly to users.
WEEK 2 Scheme 1
13
This scheme is using the most simple geometry to create a complex form. By layering sqaure volumn, the out come turns to be interesting. But this big volumn is too flat that when people get close to the building, they are unable to perceive the building as looking from distance.
WEEK 2 Scheme 2
In this scheme, I used a different way of designing building that keep the building around the edge of site and leave the center space empty. This can create a very interesting form and space for public. Buildings enclose the space and form a public space with privacy.
15
17
WEEK 2 Scheme 3 This scheme is using circles to build the form, layering, merging, subtracting, rotating.
WEEK 2 Scheme 4
19
In this scheme, I first break a whole volumn into two parts and try to connect them in different design language.
21
WEEK 2 Scheme 5 In this scheme, I first applied various geometry to create a complex shape overall and the subtract with regular shape in the center and make them work as circulation.
Instead of design a huge building on the site, I am interested in experiment landscape architetcure in this scheme. the large, small degree ramp-like roof enables people to walk on the building. At same time, visitors can have a better view standing on the roof.
23
WEEK 2 Scheme 6
25
WEEK 3 Scheme 1
After received the feedback, I had a look at brutalism and carlo scarpa’s work. Base on my understanding, I intended to apply stair-like form into my design as well as vault.
WEEK 3 Scheme 2
27
Feedback for this scheme is to break the edge, make it more dynamic and varied. Straight egde is not attractive to the visitor. I first used hexagon to break the edage but I find this kind of sharp edges can be problematic.
WEEK 3 Scheme 3 Instead of using straight line, to make the edge more gentle, I developed this scheme based on my previous design .
29
31
This scheme is developed from the landscape architecture idea. I get rid of a whole flat roof and break them into smaller pieces. By folding different part of the building, the outcome turns out to be quite interesting.
WEEK 3 Scheme 4
WEEK 4
This scheme is developed from the central park scheme from last week. As I consider it is very attractive to have public space located at the center of the site. At the same time, I incorperate the idea of landscape architecture into this scheme, design part of the building as community swimming center that has green rooftop for people to walk on.
33
The building is designed in a way that each floor will have a set back that enables the potential of introducing balcony and more activities. It is very essential to provide a comfortable environments for people who works here. As they are on site everyday, this is a good opportunity to design for staffs.
35
At the center of the site. there is a small pond which can provide relaxing and cooling space for both staffs and community residents. Community swimming pool is located near the residential area and it is designed only one floor level. By doing this, the roof of the swimming center can be used as rooftop relaxing space. When people standing or sitting on the rooftop, they are able to view the pond scenery in front of them.

WEEK 5
In order to achieve a welcoming and inviting atmosphere, I decide to apply curves to my building and make the building looks like growing from the earth. I intend to use concrete and apply greenary onto the rooftop, which can be accessed by visitor.
45
47
49
I first studied the necessary area for each function and arrange them in order so that the logic of function arrangement is correct.
Then I draw curves wrap around those function and create the prefered shape.
WEEK 6
51
In this week, I go through the same design process to develop more ideas from this scheme. I arrange function first then decided the form from the function arrangement.
Data Hall and generators are all located at the west side of the site for security reson.
53
Seperate to get
data hall into two buildings various version of arrangement.
55
57
To make the “front door of the building more significant and welcoming, I design this cruved form to make the space more inviting and to emphsize the main entrance.
59
WEEK 7 Midterm
The design concept is to fully embrace characteristics of both residential and industrial area. Remaining the identity of data center but on the other hand, creating a pleasing environment for community. The two major data center buildings are located near industrial area and designed in a solemn manner. While community area is expressed in a more dynamic way.

The design of this building has also incorporate in passive design to achieve a green energy building. The strategy includes ultilizing natural sun shading and natural ventilation, as well as making use of greenhouse to deal with waste heat and rainwater and to produce oxygen.

The diagram shows the energy loop of the buildings. The main electricity power will be from green grid and soler panel will produce backup green energy. Waste heat produced by data halls will be ultilized to heat up community swimming pool and green house for community farming.

WEEK 8 - Data Center Deisgn
In this scheme, the area of data center buildings are enlarged for better land efficiency. Curved design is also applied to data hall building in the middle for uniformity of the four building components.
79
81
Second scheme is experimenting using regular shape instead of streamlined design to emphasize the contrast between community space and data center space.
83
It is clear that there is a overall form contrast from two elevations. The community space is more dynamic while data center building has more sense of technology.
WEEK 9 - Landscape
This week is mainly focus on landscape design. The original design was to build a huge pond in front of community cafe. The new design spilt the pond into two smaller ponds and creates several ground levels.

AIR
Fresh and sufficient air is essential for generators to operate functionally. After changing the design, generators are exposed to the outside that allows fresh air to go through effectively.
WEEK 12 - Landscape Design
This scheme splits the big landscape into smaller pieces and makes the landscape more dramatic comparing to the original design.
107
This scheme is using the similar pattern of buildings to making the landscape more natural and speak to the building behind. Also, water feature is ultilized in this design.

Landscape Design Scheme 4
117
The last three landscape schemes are experimenting french style of garden design, applying manmade parttern to the landscape. As my building shape is very organic and dynamic so that this kind of pattern can create interesting contrast between landscape and buildings.
Final Review
119
Divide site area into four major function, switchroom, data center, greenhouse and community function.
Position four function building into different area.
Decide height of each individual building according to function area.
Change the baic cubic form to various curving shape.
Create dynamic form by curving the roof, lower roof can be walking on for visitors
