Rocking the chop! On Monday 16 May, 50 brave Year 12 students took part in Cancer Council’s Ponytail Project and in doing so, raised over $65,000 – almost double their original goal.

Sadly, 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and unfortunately, many of our students have witnessed a loved one go through treatment. The money they raised will be used by Cancer Council to fund clinical trials that test ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, provide accommodation for cancer patients, their families and carers during treatment, provide wigs for patients undergoing treatment and fund Cancer Council’s 13 11 20 Information and support line. An added benefit of rocking the chop is that students are able to donate their ponytails, which are then made into wigs for those experiencing loss of hair from medical treatments. We would like to thank our community for their generous support of our students who chopped their hair or shaved their heads for this wonderful cause.

“I understand how much dignity and a sense of normality a wig can give back to a chemo patient during probably the most difficult time in their life. So, I am deciding to give my hair up for someone who needs it and wants it more than I ever will.” LUCY, YEAR 12
