Professional Qualification: Former Assam State Civil Services, Class -I Currently, Director- South Asian Drugs and Addictions Research Council, New Delhi. Academic Qualification Ph. D (History) Title of the Thesis: History of Intoxication: Opium in Assam (1850-1959). The thesis has attempted to outline the trajectory of opium consumption in Assam and is the first of its kind work in the Indian subcontinent, which delineates the array of ways in which consumption of psychoactives, in this case, opium has influenced societies, cultures and economies. Research Interests: Socio-Economic and Political History of Narcotics in Colonial and PostColonial contexts, public policy regarding use and abuse of psychoactives.
