February 2024 NEWSLETTER
THE LUSITÂNIA
23

Greetings to you all and best wishes for a fulfilling, engaging and successful 2024.

Hopefully you all enjoyed a welcome and somewhat extended break in the lead up to the public holiday on 21st February.

Thank you for your magnificent and invested support for the Carnaval that once again showcased so many colourful costumes in the “DC vs. Marvel” theme. It’s amazing how these turn out and the effort put in by all of you, along with our staff, who also dressed up for the occasion.

We look ahead next term to Africa Day and Portuguese Day as more opportunities to congregate and celebrate different cultures. In the meantime, our Open Day on 23rd February for prospective parents and children was a success. Lusitania services a wide community that is growing all of the time so we feel it is important

to give people an opportunity to visit and see what we do first hand. Full details are on our website, www.lusitaniaprimary.co.zw at all times. This is a new look website that is still being populated in some areas but it gives everyone a wonderful overview of what we do and what we offer. We also believe in partnerships and corporate participation where relevant so kindly bear this in mind if you or your company are looking to support the educational sector in a way that guarantees great and positive exposure.

The second half of the term will be very busy with Inter-House and EPSA Athletics plus a full programme of National Institute of Allied Arts entries. Every participant will learn and grow from these events and that’s what makes a

Lusitania education great and exceptional!

If you have not done so, please download the free ap D6 to receive timely updates from all sectors of the school. Everything we do depends on effective communication and this helps a great deal.

FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO/PRINCIPAL

HEAD OF ACADEMICS DESK

Dear Parents / Guardians,

We trust this newsletter finds you well. We have just gone halfway through the current term, which will end on March 27th, 2024; we extend our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support of our diverse school activities. Your invaluable collaboration fosters an environment conducive to our children’s academic, athletic, and cultural flourishment. The vibrant Carnaval celebrations proved to be a resounding success, and we extend our sincere appreciation to all parents for the dazzling DC vs Marvel costumes and delectable treats. This collective effort exemplifies the spirit of unity and collaboration that defines our school family.

We are immensely proud to announce the exceptional performance of our students across various domains, ranging from academics and sports to cultural endeavours. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to those who have excelled in these areas. Notably, the recent Interhouse Cross Country competition witnessed Dias claiming the triumphant mantle, accompanied by record-breaking feats and a display of exemplary sportsmanship by our students.

Congratulations to our Cross-Country athletics team for their remarkable performance at the recent competition held at Ariel School, where they secured the top position out of 10 schools and reclaimed the prestigious Trotting Tortoise we lost last year. In addition, we are incredibly proud of our 11 students who participated in the Zone 3 Spelling Bee competitions, which featured over 500 participants. Our students showcased their exceptional skills, with Zoe Choto claiming the top spot, Sherwin Mugari securing the second position, and Shalom Kudumba securing the seventh position. These three exceptional students are among the top 10 from our zone who will proudly represent Harare Province in the upcoming Zimbabwe National finals. What an incredible feat for our school! We commend our students for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievements. Well done! As we eagerly anticipate the exciting events scheduled for the remainder of the term, we would like to highlight the following:

This is a friendly reminder for families on payment plans that all school fee balances are due in the next few days. To avoid disrupting our students learning, please contact the Accounts Office to discuss your remaining balance. We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and our team is happy to work with you to find a solution.

As we reflect on the joyous Carnaval celebrations that brought a vibrant spirit to our school, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your support. Your dedication and enthusiasm have truly enriched the experience for our students and staff.

Carnaval 2024 Winners

NIAA EIESTEDDFODS

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce the upcoming National Institute of Allied Arts Eisteddfods music festival, where nearly four hundred Lusitania students will showcase their talents and represent our school with pride. In this esteemed festival, we have carefully selected children to participate as ambassadors of our school.

To the chosen students, letters will be handed out to inform their parents about this incredible opportunity to shine on a national platform. Your continued support and encouragement mean the world to us, and we are confident that together, we will make our mark at the Eisteddfods music festival.

Please find the performance dates and times below,

In addition, please find further information from the National Institute of Allied Arts office. Please take note of the following guidelines for the festival,

• There will be limited seating available for parents on a first come first served basis.

• Parents should arrive at the venues early as parking is often an issue, and they may have to park some distance from the performance venue.

• If you arrive after the class has begun performing, whether your child is on stage or not, you will not be admitted to the hall until there is a suitable break between choirs.

• Tickets will be USD3 for the morning or afternoon session. Please bring the correct change as there will be none at the venue.

Eisteddfods Highlights

Please be advised the above parents’ music concert will be on Friday 22 March at 11am. Kindly diaries this important day.

Shrek the musical junior

We are excited to have secured the license to stage Shrek the musical junior. Our students in the two senior choirs and those that have what it takes to act will get an opportunity to audition for the main acting roles starting from 1 March 2024 to 15 March 2024. Registration is now open for grade 6 and 7 students only.

Clubs

Our cultural clubs have reached half term and students will now move to the next club. Please find the rotation schedule below. Students will remain in the allocated groups until the end of the term.
