Since then, producers have been concocting fun ways to get massively discounted tickets into the hands of the widest possible audience. Recently, one of the most exciting pre-show events to emerge for these ultra-affordable tickets is the lottery.

That’s right. A good, old-fashioned luck of the draw: go to the theater, write your name on a card, drop it in a box, then wait. Competition is fierce, and hope runs high, with sometimes 200 people vying for up to one pair of coveted tickets to shows such as Matilda, Kinky Boots and Wicked.

A few hours before curtain, a representative of the show (or theater) passes a hand over the box as the crowd of fans holds its breath with anticipation. The person reaches in the box, draws one card, then reads the name to the waiting crowd. Most groan, but there is one cheer – if your name comes out, you’re the lucky winner of one or two seats to the big show at a fraction of the box office rate. As technology advanced, the old-fashioned ways included a new-fangled digital lottery, where patrons can throw their proverbial names in the hat via a cell phone app – and be notified by text if they are winners.

One show hosting a pre-curtain lottery is Wicked, running in Morsani Hall Feb. 1-26.

This thrilling game of odds gives all people a chance to buy a ticket and take the ride to the other side of Oz. And if you lose … who cares? You can always come back and try again tomorrow. But you gotta show up in person; there’s no app to get you to Emerald City on the cheap.

Willkommen, Old Chums

In Parisian cafes after the FrancoPrussian war of the 1870s, discontent grew. People were sick of social repression, war and constraints to expression. Artists, writers and other interesting people gathered to speak freely, often sharing their art with each other in small cafés. Eventually, these small gatherings became formal clubs.

France, the first European country to give voting rights to all males, buzzed with a sense of equality, and perhaps the most alive with this bohemian restlessness was the city of Montmartre.

Creative types flocked to its streets, and artists began to dismantle the notion of art as inaccessible fancies for aristocrats. They sought to create some art form crashing high-brow and lowbrow together into something new.

From these efforts, Montmartre produced the most famous cabaret of all time – Le Chat Noir, “The Black Cat,” in 1881, named after the eponymous short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. In this small

space, singing met spoofs met skits met shadow play in a low-cost hotbed of provocative entertainment. Cabaret was unpredictable, it was immediate, and, most importantly, it was fun.

Cabaret spread to Germany quickly, and by the 1900s, Germans managed to incorporate the traditional, unobjectionable variety show with experimental, avant-garde work, although they eschewed the risqué aesthetic of the Parisian cabarets with its nudity and casual profanity. World War I brought American jazz and African-Americans to German cabarets with legendary trailblazer Josephine Baker performing her cabaret revue in Germany in 1926.

This cultural blending across European borders eventually traversed the Atlantic to the United States where cabaret began to take hold in the Prohibition speakeasies where anything goes and everything went. Chicago and New York boasted the most vibrant cabaret scenes, with an electrifying racial

mixing of dancers, musicians, Mafiosos, working class, poets, writers and the socially adventurous who sought to defy (or at least taunt) the strict separation of races, classes and mores of the day. In this liminal space, Billie Holiday debuted her haunting, classic exposé of white supremacy, “Strange Fruit,” at Café Society, a cabaret in Greenwich Village. This moment, a raw, unflinching, terrifying expression of honesty not just for Billie Holiday but for the audience, captures the great essence of the cabaret singer: a public performance of a private moment, the sense of a shared experience with a trusted friend, a story told in song.

Often these rough emotional moments were followed by a rollicking number, and this structure of ups and downs, sentimentality balanced with humor, remains the winning combination for a solid cabaret show.

According to Katherine Anne Yachinich’s thesis The Culture and Music of American Cabaret, “The word ‘cabaret’ stems from the French cambret, cameret, or camberete, for wine cellar, tavern, or small room, but ultimately comes from the Latin camera, for chamber.” Today, 134 years after Le Chat Noir opened its doors in Montmartre, cabaret remains largely defined by the fact that it happens in a small space though what happens in that small space may be rather loosely interpreted by the artists performing within it.

For the cabaret singer, opposed to song-and-dance numbers, puppetry or burlesque shows, which often also fall into the cabaret category, the art form relies on the intimacy of the

chamber, his or her ability to make a performance space feel as comfortable as a living room. Cabaret coach Anita Hall said in an interview with writer Rita Kohn that “people [who] are drawn to cabaret are old souls. I’ve shared my stage with children who can phrase and swing better than entertainers that have been at it for decades. You either have it or you don’t.”

The cabaret singer’s challenge is one of balance: the subtle interplay of patter (talking or storytelling between numbers) and song choice, the correct push-and-pull of tension between him or herself and the audience, of measuring honesty and anecdote, of dancing around instead of delivering a theme.

Such tension is masterfully toyed with in the upcoming Broadway classic, Cabaret, running in Morsani Hall Jan. 24-29, as the audience never really quite understands if it’s part of the show or part of the irony of cabaret life amid a backdrop of world war.

Cabaret, unlike many performing arts, refuses to construct the fourth wall – the accepted, invisible barrier between the stage action and the audience – which means that the audience has access to the singer’s vulnerabilities. By its nature, since it was created to build community and expression, cabaret demands the flow of intimacy between the performer and the audience. Any good cabaret act knows how to take an audience to its edge and back again.

Great cabaret performers convince everyone to jump off the edge with them. In fact, they make it sound like fun, old chum. Life is, after all, a cabaret.

We start this month with the JUDITH LISI President/CEO annual Youth America Grand Prix ballet gala in Ferguson Hall on Jan. 7, showcasing rising ballet talent with star dancers from the world’s best ballet companies. On Jan. 10, we welcome another favorite, the hilarious revue Forbidden GARY SASSO Broadway, which opens in Chairman the Jaeb Theater for its 35th anniversary tour and runs through March 12.

Continuing their outstanding season, Jobsite Theater stages Shakespeare’s classic As You Like It in modern-day Tampa, presenting a very local look at one of the Bard’s most famous comedies. Catch it in the Shimberg Playhouse, Jan. 11 – Feb. 5.

For an irreverent evening of political rips, D.C. sketch-comedy darlings Capitol Steps perform in Ferguson Hall on Jan. 12, and for fans of our Club Jaeb series, Peter Bradley Adams, known for his early turn as part of Eastmountainsouth, performs Jan. 23.

Our one-night-only Ferguson Hall events start Jan. 15 with Treasure Island, the final screening in the National Theatre Live film series this season, when the British acting company takes a new spin on Robert Louis Stevenson’s beloved tale. National Geographic LIVE! marine photographer Brian Skerry presents his breathtaking ocean images on Jan. 17 and musical supergroup Pink Martini returns to charm audiences Jan. 21. Violin virtuoso Joshua Bell performs Jan. 29 – a fitting crown atop a stellar offering of outstanding musicians this month.

Finally, escape into the famed Kit Kat Klub when the Broadway blockbuster Cabaret saunters into Morsani Hall Jan. 24-29.

About the Artists ADIARYS ALMEIDA (Principal Guest Artist) trained at the “Alfonso Perez Isaac” school in Matanzas, Cuba and the National Ballet School in Havana, Cuba. She has performed with the National Ballet of Cuba, Cincinnati Ballet, Corella Ballet and Boston Ballet, and received medals in the International Ballet Competition of Havana, Cuba. She is invited to perform in international galas worldwide, and has recently launched a line of dancewear.

Royal Swedish Ballet and Dutch National Ballet before joining The National Ballet of Canada in 2015. She has performed the entirety of the classical repertoire and worked with Alexei Ratmansky, JeanChristophe Maillot, Benjamin Millepied and David Dawson, among many others.

Dronina won the Gold Medal at the IBC in Grasse in 2003, Silver Medal at the IBCs in Helsinki (2005), Moscow (2005) and Jackson, Miss. (2006).

JURGITA DRONINA (Principal Dancer, The National Ballet of Canada) was born in Saratov, Russia. She was trained at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Art in Lithuania and Munich International Ballet Academy in Germany. Dronina danced with

several international ballet competitions including YAGP, Prix de Lausanne, and competitions in Cuba and Helsinki. Frola joined The National Ballet of Canada in 2010 and was promoted to First Soloist in 2015.

JOSEPH GATTI* (Principal Guest Artist) studied at the Orlando Ballet School and continued his training with Vadim Fedotov and Irina Depler. Gatti was an apprentice with Orlando Ballet under the direction of Fernando Bujones, and was coached by Orlando Molina for the YAGP New York City Finals in 2003, where he was awarded the Gold Medal and a scholarship to the Royal Ballet School in London. Gatti joined the ABT Studio Company in 2004, going on to dance with Corella Ballet, Boston Ballet and Orlando Ballet. Gatti currently performs as a principal guest artist around the world.

DYLAN GUTIERREZ* (Joffrey Ballet) grew up in Van Nuys, Calif. and received his training at the Los Angeles Ballet Academy under the direction of his mother, AndreaParis Gutierrez. In 2006, he was awarded a full scholarship to train at The Royal Ballet School in London. With the guidance of Gailene Stock, Gary Norman and Meelis Pakri, he was offered an apprenticeship with the San Francisco Ballet. He joined Joffrey Ballet in 2009.

ALEXANDRE HAMMOUDI (Soloist, American Ballet Theatre) began his training at the age of seven with Max Bozzoni of the Paris Opera Ballet. He trained at the Academy of Dance Salle Playel in Paris from 1996-1999, at the English National Ballet School in London and at the School of American Ballet. At 16, Hammoudi toured as a member of the National Ballet of Cuba. He joined ABT’s Studio Company in 2002, and became a member of the Company’s corps de ballet in April 2004.

He was appointed a soloist in July 2012.

SARAH LANE* (Soloist, American Ballet Theatre) began her dance training in Memphis, Tenn. under the direction of Pat Gillespie at the Memphis Classical Ballet.

She continued her studies in Rochester, N.Y. with Timothy Draper and Jamey Leverett at the Draper Center for Dance Education.

Lane won the Bronze Medal at YAGP in 2002. She joined ABT as an Apprentice in 2003, became a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2004, and was promoted to Soloist in 2007. Lane was a recipient of the Princess Grace Award in 2007, and the Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts in 2008. She was featured as the dancing double for Natalie Portman in Fox Searchlight Pictures’ film Black Swan.

BROOKLYN MACK* (Principal Dancer, Washington Ballet) began his ballet training at the Pavlovich Dance School with Radenko Pavlovich before attending the Kirov Academy of Ballet. Mack was a YAGP New York City Finalist from 20012003, going on to dance at the ABT Studio Company, Joffrey Ballet and Orlando Ballet before joining Washington Ballet in 2009.

Mack is a Princess Grace Award recipient, a Gold Medal recipient at the 2012 Boston IBC, the Grand Prix winner at the 2012 Istanbul IBC, and a Gold Medal recipient at the 2012 Varna IBC. JERALDINE MENDOZA* (Joffrey Ballet) trained at the City Ballet School of San Francisco with Galina Alexandrova and received a full scholarship to School of American Ballet’s Summer Session. At age 17, Mendoza was selected by Helgi Tomasson to join San Francisco Ballet as a trainee, and was the first American female dancer to graduate in the Russian course at the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Academy (now known as Moscow State Academy of Choreography). Mendoza won first place at the YAGP San Francisco Regional SemiFinals in 2011 and joined Joffrey Ballet later that year.

DANIEL ULBRICHT (New York City Ballet) was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., and received his training at the Judith Lee Johnson Studio of Dance, studying with Lenny Holmes. He also trained with Javier Dubraq, Jean Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride. In 1999, Ulbricht was invited to train in the Winter Program at the School of

American Ballet (SAB). In 2000, he became an apprentice with New York City Ballet, joining the company in 2001, becoming a soloist in 2005 and a principal dancer in 2007. Ulbricht is the founder and director of Stars of the American Ballet, the Creative

Director of NYCB’s Family Saturdays program, the artistic advisor to Manhattan Youth Ballet and the artistic director of the New York State Summer School for the Arts in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Who’s Who VAL FAGAN (Performer) has appeared on Broadway opposite Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth as both Alice and Grandma in The Addams Family (Original Cast Album.) A Forbidden Broadway veteran, Fagan originated its award-winning 25th Anniversary Edition: Rude Awakening (NY Drama Desk Award: Outstanding Revue, Original Cast Album). Rude Awakening’s Original Cast Album debuted on the Billboard Top Cast Album Chart and Elaine Paige chose Fagan’s “On My Phone” as a Broadway Essential for her weekly program on the BBC. In 2012, Fagan received a Los Angeles Ovation Award nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance in Forbidden Broadway at Musical Theatre West. Fagan’s extensive musical theatre credits include: Aldonza in the National Tour of Man of La Mancha opposite Robert Goulet and Fantine in the First National Tour of Les Miserables.

CATHERINE STORNETTA (Musical Director) has been a musical director for Forbidden Broadway, Forbidden Hollywood, and Forbidden Christmas for many years and has performed all over the country, all around the world, and on cruise ships circumnavigating the globe. She has orchestrated both Forbidden Broadway and Forbidden Christmas and as a result, has conducted the Detroit, Hartford, Winnipeg, North Carolina, Rochester, Syracuse, and Adelaide (Australia) Symphonies. She was the musical director for the threeyear run of Menopause, The Musical in Boston. She composed the score for the Cable ACE-award winning documentary “Christa McAuliffe, Teacher in Space,” produced for the Arts and Entertainment Network “Biography” series, and she has arranged and written music for several shows: “Intriguing People” (for People magazine), “12 Angry Reindeer,” and “All-of-a-Kind Family,” as well as shows with the Union Park Singers, Reindeer Games and Seasons. GERARD ALESSANDRINI (Creator, Writer & Director) is best known for writing and directing all the editions of Forbidden Broadway and Forbidden Hollywood in New York, Los Angeles, London and around the world. He was also a member of the original cast of Forbidden Broadway. Alessandrini is from Needham, Mass. and the Boston area, where he graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music. In 1982, he created Forbidden Broadway, which has spawned 15 editions, 8 cast albums and a 25-year-and-counting run in New York. Television credits include writing comedy specials for Bob Hope and Angela Lansbury on NBC, Carol Burnett on CBS and “Masterpiece Tonight,” a satirical revue saluting “Masterpiece Theatre” on PBS. He can be heard on four of the eight FB cast albums and on the soundtracks of Disney’s Aladdin and Pocahontas.

Directing credits include many corporate industrials and regional musicals, including a production of Maury Yeston’s musical In the Beginning. Alessandrini also codirected a revival of Irving Berlin’s last musical Mr. President, which he updated and “politically corrected.” Alessandrini is the recipient of an Obie Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, two Lucille Lortel Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Drama League and three Drama Desk Awards for Best Lyrics for Forbidden Broadway. ALVIN COLT’s (Costume Design) costumes have been represented in 88 Broadway shows which include the original productions of On the Town and Guys and Dolls, plus Li’l Abner, Fanny, Destry Rides Again, Sugar, Pipe Dream, Wildcat, Lorelei, Greenwillow and numerous others.

A Tony Award©-winner, he has also been nominated four times for both the Tony Award and television’s Emmy© Award, having designed costumes for over 90 programs on all major networks. Colt is the recipient of TDF’s Irene Sharaff’s Award in costume design, and received a Drama Desk nomination for Forbidden Broadway. He was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 2001. Recently, The Museum of the City

of New York celebrated Colt’s work with “Costumes and Characters: The Designs of Alvin Colt.”

Reading Pa, Freedson attended the Boston Conservatory and is a graduate of Brandeis University.

JOHN FREEDSON (Producer) has been associated with Forbidden Broadway for most of its 30-year history and has produced the Special-Tony®-awarded New York company since 1994. Freedson is also producer of the current national tour of the Off-Broadway hit I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. With his partner Harriet Yellin, he produced Forbidden Broadway at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory and subsequent West End production, in LA, San Diego, Detroit, Denver and on tour, as well as Forbidden Hollywood in LA, Japan and Off-Broadway. He has directed both shows to acclaim around the world, winning Jefferson Award for Best Direction for the Chicago production of FH. Freedson co-produced 10 Forbidden Broadway CD’s for DRG records and, long ago, appeared in the Off-Broadway and Boston productions.

As a composer/ lyricist, he wrote three hit children’s musicals: A Swan is Born, Aesop’s Follies and Country Mouse/City Mouse, which toured with the New England Theatre Guild. His voice can be heard on numerous radio and television spots and jingles, two Forbidden Broadway CD’s and Disney’s Aladdin. Originally from

HARRIET YELLIN (Producer) has been involved with Forbidden Broadway since 1984, when she produced and managed Forbidden Broadway in Boston, which ran for over six years, as well as the Los Angeles, San Diego, Washington, D.C., Detroit, and Denver productions of the show. With John Freedson, she is coproducer of the current run of Forbidden Broadway in New York, as well as previous New York editions since 1995. She was also co-producer of Forbidden Hollywood in Los Angeles, Chicago, Japan and New York. She was co-producer and General Manager of Forever Plaid’s four-year run in Boston, and spent over 15 years with Blue Man Group, first as General Manager of Blue Man’s smash engagement in Boston, later as CFO of what grew to become an international organization with 7 shows and over 700 employees during her tenure. In another long-ago life, she was a high-powered political consultant; she has worked for numerous senatorial and gubernatorial candidates and was National Media Director for the Dukakis and Tsongas Presidential campaigns.

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY AND FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD Forbidden Broadway was first seen at Palsson’s Supper Club on New York’s Upper West Side in January, 1982. What began as a simple cabaret act to give creator/ lyricist Gerard Alessandrini a showcase for his talents and the opportunity to “find an agent” became New York’s longest running musical comedy revue. Hailed by critics and audiences alike, Forbidden Broadway won Drama Desk, Obie and Outer Critics Circle awards and captured the heart of the theatre industry itself. Many of its legendary “victims,” including Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Bernadette Peters, Tommy Tune, Angela Lansbury, Stephen Sondheim, Hal Prince and Andrew Lloyd Webber, were among the celebrities who stopped by to applaud first-hand. Updated regularly

for each new theatre season, Forbidden Broadway ran to packed houses at the 75seat Palsson’s through August 1987. In September 1988, the show re-opened at the 125-seat Theatre East, where it ran an additional five and a half years.

The show also became known for talented but as yet unknown actors, many of whom have gone on to stardom in various venues: Jason Alexander (Seinfeld’s George Costanza), Chloe Webb (Twins and the PBS series Tales of the City), Davis Gaines (Phantom), as well as Roxie Lucas (Damn Yankees), Gregg Edelman (City of Angels), Dee Hoty (Will Rogers Follies), Michael McGrath (Spamalot, The Martin Short Show), and Brad Oscar (The Producers).

Forbidden Broadway’s success was repeated in Boston, where it enjoyed a six and a half year stay at the 250-seat Terrace Room; Chicago and Boca Raton (over two years each), Toronto and Philadelphia (one year each), Kansas City (nine months and two return engagements), Denver (six months), San Diego (two engagements including Forbidden Christmas), a recordbreaking run in 1994 at the Tiffany Theatre in Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore among many others. In 1999, after a sell-out engagement at London’s Jermyn Street Theatre, it transferred for the summer to the famed Albery Theatre in the West End. Forbidden Broadway’s return to the Tiffany Theatre in Los Angeles in the spring of 2000 garnered two more Ovation Awards.

Alessandrini’s next spoof, Forbidden Hollywood, first appeared as a section of Forbidden Broadway in Boston in 1989.

After several years of work on the project, the full length version previewed in San Diego, then opened in Los Angeles in March 1995. The run at the Coronet Theatre delighted audiences for nearly a year and was nominated for seven Ovation Awards.

Whoopi Goldberg, Carol Channing and many other luminaries of the “industry” showed up to see themselves and their friends lovingly parodied. The show was subsequently produced in Chicago (which garnered three Jefferson Award nominations), Kansas City (a recordbreaking run), and Toronto. It was updated for New York and ran off-Broadway in 1996, and has had numerous successful runs across America since that time.

In the fall of 1996, the Forbidden crew, including John Freedson and Harriet Yellin (producers), Phill George (Associate

Director), and of course, writer-director Gerard Alessandrini, turned their attention back to their first love: Broadway. A new edition of the show, Forbidden Broadway Strikes Back! returned to New York and its original home on West 72nd (now called the Triad and expanded to 135 seats), where it once again delighted audiences with its fast-paced spoofs of current Broadway shows and stars. The return of FB was again greeted with raves from critics (The New York Times called it “triumphant”) and the show won the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel and Drama League Awards. Bob Hope, Bea Arthur, Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury, Savion Glover, George C. Wolfe, Elaine Paige, Rosie O’Donnell, Dame Maggie Smith and the casts of Lion King, Aida, and Rent are among the recent attendees. The show moved to the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre on 42nd Street with a brand new edition, Forbidden Broadway 2001: A Spoof Odyssey, which won the 2001 Drama Desk Award for Best Revue. Forbidden Broadway’s 20th Anniversary Edition was followed by Forbidden Broadway: SVU, which won yet another Drama Desk Award for Best Musical Revue in 2005. In 2006, the show was recognized with a Tony© Honors Award for being an integral part of the theatre community for over twentyfive years. Most recently, after a three-year hiatus, a new edition, Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking, opened in New York garnering rave reviews once again from almost every media outlet (this time, The New York Times called it “a godsend.”) The 2014 London edition had a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, followed by an extended move to London’s West End. As long as there’s a Broadway, Forbidden Broadway will be there, poking, prodding, teasing, pleasing, jeering and cheering, but always, with love.

Who’s Who EMILY BELVO (Rosalind) started her acting career with Eckerd Theater Company, a touring children’s theater group dedicated to educating children of all ages. Emily has acted in the Tampa area for the past six years and has worked with such companies as Hat Trick Theatre Productions (Wait Until Dark, Unnecessary Farce, Proof), Tampa Repertory Theatre (The Children’s Hour, Hamlet), Stageworks Theatre (5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche), Ghostlight Theatre Company (A Haunting at the Meteor), and an independent production of Oleanna, staged at freeFall Theatre. This will be her fifth show with Jobsite Theater (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Occupation, Orlando, The Last Night at Ballyhoo), and she is incredibly humbled and excited to be back. Roxanne was awarded the 2016 Hawthornden Writers’ Fellowship and recently returned from Hawthornden Castle in Scotland, where she spent the month of September as playwright in residence, completing her new work, Thrice To Mine. Recently, Lauren has been instructing/directing the American Stage Education Teen Ensemble’s piece of devised theater inspired by Molière’s Tartuffe. She is a graduate of USF St. Petersburg where she studied the Humanities with a focus on history and classic literature, and was also the Founding President of the USFSP Shakespeare Society. Recent credits include Rosalia in West Side Story, Rosalind in As You Like It, and Ethel Peas in Thoroughly Modern Millie. When she is not onstage or in the classroom, Lauren can be found making up songs with her fellow Musical Improv actors at American Stage, contemplating graduate school, and finishing her instructor certification with St. Petersburg Yoga. JORDAN FOOTE (Oliver/ William) is excited to make his return to the Jobsite stage!

He is honored to return to the world of Shakespeare with Jobsite after assistant directing the production of Twelfth Night. He previously performed with Jobsite Theater as Van Gogh in Inventing Van Gogh, Peachy in The Last Night at Ballyhoo and Ensemble for Almost An Evening. Jordan was most recently in the Tampa Rep production of the epic classic The Iceman Cometh as Willie.

You may have also just seen him in American Stage’s production of One Slight Hitch as Ryan. Jordan is a Tampa transplant originally from Kansas City. He earned his BA in Theatre from the University of Kansas and his Masters in Theatre Education from Kansas State University. He currently teaches at Orange Grove Magnet Middle School of the Arts.

Other production highlights include Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo, Uday Hussein; A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lysander; Gross Indecency…, Oscar Wilde; Anna in the Tropics, Palomo; and The Pillowman, Director. He currently lives in Tampa Heights with his wife Laura, foster daughter Kathy and dogs Jenny and Layla. He is grateful for his amazing and talented wife for her encouragement and support.

ALVIN JENKINS (Adam/ Corin) hails from Montana, and enjoys being a part of the dynamic and supportive theatre community in the Tampa Bay area for seventeen years. He is ever grateful to work with David Jenkins and the Jobsite gang. As You Like It represents Alvin’s sixth production at Jobsite over the past decade or so.

He was last on stage at the Shimberg Playhouse as Leonato in Much Ado About Nothing. Prior to that, he inhabited Harry Cooper in Night of the Living Dead, Pearly White and other characters in Embedded, various characters in The Serpent, and Mr. Klemper in The Boys Next Door. BECCA McCOY (Queen Frederick/Queen Senior) has performed nationwide in Motherhood the Musical and Menopause the Musical, and was last seen at the Straz Center as Sleeping Beauty in Disenchanted!, for which she won the Broadway World Tampa award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Regional theatre credits come from nine states and run the gamut from musicals to Shakespeare.

Becca attended the British American Drama Academy in Oxford where she was one of 13 people selected that term to study directly with John Barton, founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her previous Shakespeare credits in Tampa Bay include Love’s Labour’s Lost (Princess of France - American Stage in the Park), Comedy of Errors (The Abbess - freeFall Theatre), and Macbeth (Macduff - Alley Cat Players). McGREEVY (Charles/ Sylvius) is excited to once again be part of the Shakespearean tradition with Jobsite, having previously been involved in productions of Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, and The Taming of the Shrew. He was most recently on stage with the Lab Theater Project in their production of Cleave as The Founder, but Jobsite regulars will recognize him from his roles in shows like Gorey Stories, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, and Playing with Fire: After Frankenstein (among others). He’s also been involved with Stageworks, having performed in War of the Worlds, Biloxi Blues, and A Few Good Men. At the time of this writing, two major Milestones are about to happen in Michael’s life. His son, Alexander, recently turned 21 - having been in the background of rehearsals for Michael’s first show with Jobsite, Maxwell, way back in 2001.

He is also receiving his Masters in Software Engineering which is very useful for an actor, to be sure. As always, much love and thanks go out to his amazing wife for all the support she gives him during the hectic times when he balances work, school and acting. Without her, it would be nearly impossible to pull it all off.

JESSY QUINONES (Denise/Phoebe) was born and raised in Puerto Rico where she began pursuing theatre. Living in Florida since she graduated from high school in 2007, she was president for her troupe of the International Thespian Society. She received her BA in Theater-Performance from the University of South Florida in 2012 as a theater performance major. Some of her acting and singing performances have included Betty in All in the Timing, Wife in Blood Wedding (HCC), Fame (soloist), Woman 3 in Einstein’s Dreams (Jobsite Theater), Dorine in Tarfuffe (Tampa Repertory Theater), Yolanda in How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents (Stageworks Theater), Ginny and Wanda in Durang, Durang with a Twist (Ghostlight Theatre). You have also seen her as Veronica in The Motherf*cker with the Hat (Stageworks Theatre). Most recently, you have seen her portray four different characters in Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens, as well as Matthias of Galilee and Mary Magdalene in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (The Space at 2106). In 2013, Jessy was chosen as one of Creative Loafing’s 20 Under 25 Promising Young Artists. She is very excited to have the opportunity to work with director David Jenkins for the first time. She wishes to thank her two children, Noel and Arianna, and their father Cencio, her mother Lisa for holding down the fort along with her sister Mykelle and her brother Sean-Mikael, her entire growing family, and God for always being her strong reliable support system.

KATRINA STEVENSON (LeBeau/Audrey) most recently appeared on stage with Stageworks in The Great Gatsby as Myrtle, Psycho Beach Party as Marvel Ann, with Jobsite Theater in The Maids as Claire, in the title role of Sarah Ruhl’s Orlando, and as Mrs. Van Buren in Intimate Apparel with American Stage. MADISON FLYNN (Acting Apprentice) is a recent high school graduate from the Canterbury School of Florida; she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in theatre. Recent shows include Anything Goes (Hope Harcourt), The Mystery of Edwin Drood, A Streetcar Named Desire (Stella Kowalski), Oklahoma!

(Gertie), and The Pirates of Penzance. She is a 2016 Suncoast Theatre Award nominee (Best Supporting Actress in a Drama) for her role in Streetcar at the Francis Wilson Playhouse.

She would like to thank David Jenkins for this awesome opportunity to delve into the world of Shakespeare, as well as her family for their unwavering support.

THOMAS MORGAN (Acting Apprentice) is a recent graduate from the University of South Florida, where he majored in Theater Performance. He was also part of the American Theatre Wing’s 2016 Springboard program where he got to work with professionals like Peter

Francis James, Liel Tommy, Nelson Eusebio and then attend the 70th Annual Tony® Awards.

Thomas can currently be seen in American Stage’s School Tour as George in George’s Marvelous Medicine as well as Sam in Hat Trick Theatre’s Wait Until Dark. Thomas would like to thank David Jenkins and Jobsite for the opportunity to continue his growth as an artist and go on this journey of discovery with such an amazing group of talented artists!

GILES DAVIES (Text Advisor and Teaching Artist) is a professional Equity actor and teaching artist. Having worked as an actor regionally, with a few international stints, his main performance job has been with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company as an ensemble member for 17 years where he initiated the high school age actor training program (which he ran for five years). He completed his M.F.A. at Ohio State University.

He has taught workshops, residencies and classes for all ages and experience levels. He was an Ohio Arts Council resident teaching artist for seven years, a visiting professor at The University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music and Drama for a year in 2015, and an adjunct professor at the same for six years. Giles was also invited to Eastern Washington University as a teaching artist. For seven years now, he has travelled to Los Altos, Calif. to work with 7th graders at Bullis Charter School to work on their annual production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He specializes in teaching Shakespeare, movement and acting. He has had the privilege of studying with Marcel Marceau, The SITI Co., Richard Schechner, The Wooster Group, Kevin Kling, and Danny Hoch, among others. In the Tampa area, he has taught with the Patel Conservatory, The American Stage, Hillsborough Community College, Gorilla Theatre, Stageworks and independent sessions with various local artists and students. He has been working with Jobsite Theater in the Tampa area for five years, and is happy to call it his local professional home in the area.

DAN GRANKE (Fight Director) is a director, fight director and movement specialist. His work as a Fight Director has appeared at various theatres in New York City including The Public, Write-Act Rep, and Cena/Cenari.

Dan also teaches at the University of South Florida, and is a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, as well as an instructor of Historical Fencing with Kriegschool Tampa Bay. He also has extensive training in SAMBO and other grappling arts.

MATTHEW RAY (Assistant Director) is the company manager for Jobsite. He has been with the company since 2012 when he came on board as the company stage manager. He is excited to be the assistant director for this show! He has worn many hats through the bay area including stage management (Jobsite, Stageworks, A Simple Theatre), directing (Jobsite Almost an Evening, Stageworks Tampaworks, TampaRep ‘TampaWright’, “Musings of a Postmodern Romantic”), and designing (Jobsite, TampaRep). BRITTANY REUTHER (Costume Designer) is excited to be working with Jobsite Theater once again! Brittany has previously designed shows including Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and SILENCE! BRIAN M. SMALLHEER (Set, Light Designer) received his education from Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, Polk Community College (Visual Arts), and University of South Florida (Theatre Design). He is the Technical Director as well as a resident Scenic and Lighting Designer for Jobsite. As a designer for Jobsite, his work has received two Best of the Bay awards: Best Lighting Design for Einstein’s Dreams (2011) and Best Local Set Designer for Return to the Forbidden Planet (2014) for which he also received BroadwayWorld’s Best Set Design.

In addition to working for Jobsite, Brian is also the Technical Theatre Instructor and Technical Director for the Tampa Preparatory School. In what little spare time he has, he also freelances as a designer and technician and has worked with a variety of companies including Home Shopping Network, HCC, Patel Conservatory, Hillsborough County Television, ESPN and Walt Disney Entertainment.

DAVID M. JENKINS (Director, Adaptation, Sound) is the Producing Artistic Director and a co-founder of Jobsite. He holds a PhD in Communication/Performance Studies (USF), an MFA in Acting (UF) and a BA in Theater Performance (USF). He has additionally studied with Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and the San Francisco Mime Troupe. David teaches in the Honors College and Theater Department at USF. He has

recently directed productions of LIZZIE, The Maids, Lebensraum, SILENCE! The Musical, Annapurna (with Summer Bohnenkamp), Twelfth Night, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Macbeth, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He has most recently appeared in Time Stands Still (James), Sins of the Mother (Frankie/Philly Verga), The Hound of the Baskervilles (Dr. Watson), and The Lonesome West (Coleman). The latter earned him a Theatre Tampa Bay nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor, recognition as a Top 9 performance of 2013 by Creative Loafing’s Mark Leib, and the Best Actor Award in CL’s Best of the Bay Reader’s Poll. He was

the 2014 recipient of the Best Director Award from CL’s Reader’s Poll and Best Director of a Musical in the BroadwayWorld Tampa Regional Awards. Creative Loafing has twice honored him as both Best Artistic Director and Best Actor. David has published articles in the scholarly journals Text & Performance Quarterly, Liminalities, and Departures in Critical Qualitative Research. He is currently expanding his doctoral dissertation, Was It Something They Said: Stand-up comedy and progressive social change, into a book with Vanderbilt University Press. He lives in Tampa Heights in a neat old house with his rad wife and a mess of critters.

Capitol Steps The Capitol Steps are a troupe of Congressional staffers-turned-comedians who travel the States satirizing the very people and places that once employed them. The Steps perform over 500 shows a year all over the country.

The Capitol Steps were born December 1981 when three staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn’t find three wise men or a virgin! So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and created song parodies and skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor that was as popular in Peoria as it was on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Ronald Reagan was President when the Steps began, so co-founders Elaina Newport, Bill Strauss and Jim Aidala figured that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers! Since then, the Steps have had over 4,500 performances in 48 states. The group now has 22 cast members, five of whom are on stage for any one show.

Most cast members have worked on Capitol Hill, some for Democrats, some for Republicans, and others for politicians who firmly straddle the fence. No matter who holds office, there’s never a shortage of material. Says Elaina Newport, “Typically, the Republicans goof up, and the Democrats party. Then the Democrats goof up and the Republicans party. That’s what we call a two-party system.”

Although the Capitol Steps are based in Washington, DC, most of their shows are out-oftown or for out-of-town audiences. Whether it’s the National Welding Supply Association, a university audience, high schoolers, or State Legislators, people love to laugh at the foibles of our elected officials and the news of the day. The only complaints the Steps seem to get are from the politicians and personalities who are NOT included in the program!

Many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom (“Don’t quit your day job!”), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded over two dozen albums, have been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials. contact@flemingartists.com flemingartists.com

Robert Louis Stevenson, the Scottish author of Treasure Island, began to tell one of the most gripping adventure stories ever written to entertain his stepson. It went on to be serialized in a children’s magazine, and was first published as a book in 1883. Stevenson’s other books include Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, but Treasure Island was perhaps the most iconic, and has been dramatized on stage, television and film. This production is staged in the Olivier theatre at the National Theatre and is adapted by playwright Bryony Lavery (Kursk, Beautiful Burnout).

Some of the things that Stevenson imagined have become part of popular culture and what we now think of as ‘traditional’ pirate imagery: the dreaded ‘Black Spot,’ the treasure map and the buried treasure all first appeared in his book, though sailors did often have parrots as pets, and primitive surgery on board meant that wooden legs were not unknown among real pirates.

Ocean Wild: The Light Beneath the Seas with Brian Skerry, photographer Brian Skerry is a photojournalist specializing in marine wildlife and underwater environments.

Since 1998, he has been a contract photographer for National Geographic magazine, covering a wide range of subjects and stories.

An award-winning photographer, Skerry is praised worldwide for his aesthetic sense as well as his journalistic drive for relevance. His uniquely creative images tell stories that not only celebrate the mystery and beauty of the sea, but also help bring attention to the large number of issues that endanger our oceans and its inhabitants.

Unique within the field of underwater photography is Skerry’s ability to pursue subjects of great diversity. His nearly year-round assignment schedule frequently finds him in environments of extreme contrast from tropical coral reefs to diving beneath polar ice. While on assignment, he has lived on the bottom of the sea, spent months aboard fishing boats, and traveled in everything from snowmobiles to canoes to the Goodyear blimp to get the picture.

He has spent more than 10,000 hours underwater over the last 30 years.

For National Geographic magazine, Skerry has covered a wide range of stories, from the harp seal’s struggle to survive in frozen waters to the alarming decrease in the world’s fisheries, both cover stories.

Other National Geographic features have focused on subjects such as the planet’s last remaining pristine coral reefs, the plight of the right whale, sharks of the Bahamas, marine reserves, sea turtles and squid. His most recent National Geographic stories have covered the economically vital but endangered bluefin tuna and the Mesoamerican coastal reef.

Skerry has also worked on assignment for, or had images featured in, magazines such as Sports Illustrated, U.S. News and World Report, BBC Wildlife, GEO, Smithsonian, Esquire, Audubon and Men’s Journal, as well as countless publications worldwide. National Geographic Books released his latest monograph, Ocean Soul, in November 2011.

Skerry frequently lectures on photography and conservation issues, having presented at venues such as TED Talks, Harvard University, the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and the Royal Geographical Society in London. He is also a regular guest on programs such as NBC’s Today, CBS’s Sunday Morning, and ABC’s Good Morning America.

After three decades of exploring the world’s oceans, Skerry continues to pursue stories that will increase awareness about the sea: “The oceans are in trouble. There are some serious problems out there that I believe are not clear to many people. My hope is to continually find new ways of creating images and stories that both celebrate the sea yet also highlight environmental problems. Photography can be a powerful instrument for change.”

– Thomas Lauderdale, bandleader/pianist In 1994, in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Lauderdale was working in politics, thinking that one day he would run for mayor. Like other eager politicians-in-training, he went to every political fundraiser under the sun but was dismayed to find the music at these events underwhelming, lackluster, loud and un-neighborly. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop – and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for political fundraisers for causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, libraries, public broadcasting, education and parks.

One year later, Lauderdale called China Forbes, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City, and asked her to join Pink Martini. They began to write songs together. Their first song “Sympathique” became an overnight sensation in France, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards, and to this day remains a mantra (“Je ne veux pas travailler” or “I don’t want to work”) for striking French workers. Says Lauderdale, “We’re very much an American band, but we spend a lot of time abroad and therefore have the incredible diplomatic opportunity to represent a broader, more inclusive America … the America which remains the most heterogeneously populated country in the world … composed of people of every country, every language, every religion.”

Featuring a dozen musicians, Pink Martini performs its multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Northern Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South and North America. Pink Martini made its European debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997 and its orchestral debut with the Oregon Symphony in 1998 under the direction of Norman Leyden. and the BBC Concert Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall in London. Other appearances include the grand opening of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, with several return sold-out engagements for New Year’s Eve; four sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall; the opening party of the remodeled Museum of Modern Art in New York City; the Governor’s Ball at the 80th Annual Academy Awards© in 2008; the opening of the 2008 Sydney Festival in Australia; multiple sold-out appearances, and a festival opening at the Montreal Jazz Festival, two sold-out concerts at Paris’ legendary L’Olympia Theatre in 2011; and Paris’ fashion house Lanvin’s 10-year anniversary celebration for designer Alber Elbaz in 2012. In its twentieth year, Pink Martini was inducted into both the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and the Oregon Music Hall of Fame.

Pink Martini’s debut album Sympathique was released independently in 1997 on the band’s own label Heinz Records (named after Lauderdale’s dog), and quickly became an international phenomenon, garnering the group nominations for “Song of the Year” and “Best New Artist” in France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards in 2000. Pink Martini released Hang On Little Tomato in 2004, Hey Eugene! in 2007 and Splendor In The Grass in 2009. In 2010, the band released Joy To The World – a festive, multi-denominational holiday album featuring songs from around the globe. Joy To The World received glowing reviews and was carried in Starbucks stores during the 2010 and 2011 holiday seasons. All five albums have gone gold in France, Canada, Greece and Turkey.

In 2011, the band released two albums – A Retrospective, a collection of the band’s most beloved songs spanning their 18-year career, which includes eight previously unreleased tracks, and 1969, an album of collaborations with legendary Japanese singer Saori Yuki. Pink Martini albums have sold over 3 million copies worldwide.

The band has collaborated and performed with numerous artists, including Jimmy Scott, Carol Channing, Jane Powell, Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wainwright, Henri Salvador, Chavela Vargas, New York performer Joey Arias, puppeteer Basil Twist, Georges Moustaki, Michael Feinstein, filmmaker Gus Van Sant, Courtney Taylor-Taylor of The Dandy Warhols, clarinetist and conductor Norman Leyden, Japanese legend Hiroshi Wada, Italian actress and songwriter Alba Clemente, DJ Johnny Dynell and Chi Chi Valenti, Faith Prince, Mamie Van Doren, the original cast of Sesame Street, the Bonita Vista High School Marching Band of Chula Vista, Calif., the Portland Youth Philharmonic, and the Pacific Youth Choir of Portland, Oregon.

While still in the studio for Get Happy, Lauderdale simultaneously began work on the band’s eighth studio album, Dream a Little Dream, featuring Sofia, Melanie, Amanda and August von Trapp, the actual great-grandchildren of Captain and Maria von Trapp, made famous by the movie The Sound of Music. The album, released in 2014, traverses the world, from Sweden to Rwanda to China to Bavaria, and features guest appearances by The Chieftains, Wayne Newton, “Jungle” Jack Hanna, and Charmian Carr (who played Liesl in the original Sound of Music).

Pink Martini has just released its ninth studio album, Je dis oui!, which features vocals from China Forbes, Storm Large, Ari Shapiro, fashion guru Ikram Goldman, civil rights activist Kathleen Saadat, and Rufus Wainwright. The album is the band’s happiest in years; it features 15 tracks spanning eight languages (French, Farsi, Armenian, Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish, Xhosa and English), and affirms the band’s 22-year history of global inclusivity and collaborative spirit.

Peter Bradley Adams as part of Club Jaeb Nashville-based singer/songwriter, Peter Bradley Adams, was one half of the duo, Eastmountainsouth, signed by Robbie Robertson (The Band) to Dreamworks Records in 2002. Adams has since released five solo records and is set to release his sixth, “A Face Like Mine,” in February 2017. Adams will be joined on stage at The Straz by his long-time touring partner, Todd Lombardo, whose exquisite slide guitar playing is also featured on the new record.

Prior to his career as a singer/songwriter, Adams received a Master’s in composition from the University of Alabama’s School of Music, and went on to write music for film and television in Los Angeles. His latest composition was a piece for violin and piano which premiered last year at the Grand Rapids Ballet with choreography by Gina Patterson.

Adams is described by No Depression magazine as “… one of the most consistently eloquent and pleasing singer/songwriters on the scene. Indeed, his brand of musical melancholy is so specific and evocative that, sometimes, listening through his catalog is the only way to survive a moment or a day.”

Adams shares a verse from the title track of his new record “A Face Like Mine.” “It’s a song told from the point of view of my grandfather whose father left home when he was an infant,” says Adams. “I was thinking about how events and the suffering they cause can get passed down through generations … but also how forgiveness gets passed along too.”

Welcome to the Kit Kat Klub, and to John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff’s seductive masterpiece of a musical, Cabaret. The production you will see today, brought to life by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall (one of the most gifted directorial teams in the business), first slinked onto the Roundabout stage in 1998. The show presented a dark and dazzling vision for the iconic musical, stripping away showbiz sheen and sparkle to reveal an unadorned, visceral core: in the jagged choreography and raw sensuality of this production, we find a story both stark in its judgment and mesmerizing in its empathy. The 1998 production ran on Broadway until 2004 and proved to be a landmark moment in Roundabout’s history. In 2013, when conversations about a second revival began, I knew we had to take the opportunity to bring the musical to another generation of Broadway theatregoers. This is a production that deserves to be seen, whether for the first time or for a blissful encore.

Following that exceptional second run on Broadway, I am incredibly proud to be sharing this milestone production with a national audience. This season marks Roundabout’s 50th Anniversary as a company, and in this historic year, I cannot think of a better production with which to share our work and mission with you. Since Roundabout’s founding, the company’s mission has been growing with our audience. Today, our seasons include expert revivals of rarely-seen classic plays like Machinal and The Winslow Boy, joyous reimaginings of timeless American musicals like Anything Goes and She Loves Me, and new works by the playwrights penning the classics of the future. JOE MASTEROFF (Book). Born in 1919 in Philadelphia, he had only one dream from infancy: to write for the theatre. After the essential lonely childhood and four-year stint in the Air Force, he came to New York to face his future: book writer or book seller? Luckily, luck intervened. Before long he had three shows on Broadway bearing his name: The Warm Peninsula starring Julie Harris, and two musicals She Loves Me and Cabaret, for which he was the book writer. Thanks to indulgent parents, the New Dramatists, Hal Prince and many others, he is now retired and living in subdued luxury.

JOHN KANDER (Music) & FRED EBB (Lyrics). The Kander & Ebb collaboration of four decades created many Broadway standards and contemporary classics. Their first collaboration, “My Coloring Book,” became a hit song for Barbra Streisand, earning John and Fred a Grammy nomination. Kander & Ebb’s first Broadway show in 1965, Flora the Red Menace, produced by Hal Prince, directed by George Abbott and introducing a rising new star: Liza Minnelli. Followed by Cabaret (Tony Award music and lyrics), The Happy Time, Zorba, 70, Girls, 70, Chicago, The Act, Woman of the Year (Tony Award music and lyrics), The Rink, Kiss of the Spider Woman (Tony Award music and lyrics) and Steel Pier. Along with movies and television writing original material for the Academy Awards, “Liza With a Z” and HBO’s Liza Minnelli’s “Steppin’ Out” (both Emmy winners), “Baryshnikov on Broadway,” “Goldie and Liza Together,” Funny Lady, Lucky Lady, New York, New York, Steppin’ Out, and Chicago the movie. In 1985 the song “New York, New York” became the official anthem of New York City. At the time of Mr. Ebb’s death in 2004, Kander & Ebb had several projects in different stages of completion including the Tony-nominated Curtains in 2007, 12-time Tony-nominated The Scottsboro Boys in 2010, All About Us (an adaptation of The Skin of our Teeth) and The Visit premiering at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago followed by the Signature Theatre in Fairfax, VA and nominated for 5 Tony’s including best score in 2015, all starring Chita Rivera. Mr. Kander is currently collaborating with author/ playwright Greg Pierce on The Landing and Kid Victory which debuted at the Signature Theatre and The Vineyard Theatre.

SAM MENDES (Original Director) founded and ran the Donmar Warehouse in London for 10 years. He has directed many productions at the Donmar, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, in the West End and on Broadway. BT McNICHOLL (Director) won the Australian “Tony” (the Helpmann) for Best Direction (along with Messrs. Mendes and Marshall) for Cabaret, which he also staged in record-setting runs in Paris and Madrid. McNicholl was the protégé of the legendary Mike Nichols, and has been associated with directors Stephen Daldry, James Lapine, David Hare and Jerry Zaks on 12 Broadway shows. He directed Spamalot at the Hollywood Bowl, the European premiere of The Producers for Mel Brooks and the regional premiere of Billy Elliot (Moss Hart Award). A BMI-Award winning lyricist, his credits include the critically-acclaimed musical The It Girl.

GENE FEIST (Founding Director, Roundabout Theatre Company). 1923-2014. Since founding Roundabout in 1965, Gene was intimately involved as producer-director for more than 150 productions.

For Broadway, he directed The Play’s the Thing (1973) and produced A Taste of Honey (1981) and the Tony Award-winning revival of Joe Egg (1984).

He sent The Winslow Boy and A Raisin in the Sun on National Tours. Among the produced plays he wrote are James Joyce’s Dublin, Jocasta, A Toy of the Clowns and Building Blocks, in addition to adaptations of Feydeau, Ibsen, Chekhov and Strindberg. A WWII Army Air Force veteran, he held degrees from Carnegie Mellon and New York Universities. He was the recipient of the 1996 Lucille Lortel Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The second phase of endowment growth occurred between 1999 and 2004, when The Campaign for The Center, a comprehensive effort combining endowment and building needs, increased the endowment to $30 million.
