Letter from the Editor

After a tumultuous 2020, the United Nations declared 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust. With COVID still a major topic of conversation, and contention, for some, and with states within Australia being in lockdown for nearly three-quarters of the year, it should be a relief to Queenslanders to have an element of freedom. That’s not to say that St Peters families haven’t suffered and struggled themselves. With borders closed, many families and friends haven’t seen loved ones for over a year – just ask some of the boarders!

In saying that, we need to count ourselves lucky. Lucky that we had only one short lockdown. Lucky that Queensland has had nowhere near the number of COVID cases as New South Wales and Victoria. Lucky that we have managed to get on with our College-life relatively unscathed.

Proof of this was yet more events going ahead this Semester. We were finally able to celebrate the postponed 2020 Anniversary Gala Ball plus regular Semester 2 occasions like Golf Day and new ones like the SPOSA and P&F Trivia Night. Not only internal events were celebrated. At long last our community got the opportunity to cheer on, albeit from the sidelines (or the PAC Auditorium), current and Old Scholars who represented Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Congratulations to Olympic representatives Ariarne Titmus, Abbey Harkin, Madison Wilson, Mollie O’Callaghan, Eve Thomas and Pita Taufatofua. We’re all incredibly proud of you.

Stay safe and healthy over the summer holidays and we look forward to seeing you in the new year. Seniors of 2021, I wish you all the best with your exam results and in the future. Peace (and trust) out.
