the new St. Paul’s really is happening.

When the doors open, you will walk into a brand new, state-of-the-art campus that weaves together the latest in design and technology with a 125-year legacy of compassionate, patient-centred care.

Ultimately, the decision to support any charity hinges on the answer to one question: Will it make a difference? That’s all. Will my gift make a difference? For the new St. Paul’s, the answer is a clear and definitive yes.

Dr. Tillie-Louise Hackett and her research team discovered that COPD causes permanent lung damage even before patients have symptoms. This breakthrough will lead to dramatic changes in COPD treatment protocols. Dr. Hackett is a principal investigator at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul’s Hospital.

Imagine a

It’s a testament to the people and culture of St. Paul’s that we have achieved so many milestones in a facility that was built for — and in — another century.

Imagine what you can do in a fully-funded, purpose-built hospital and medical centre. Where a greenfield campus has been designed from the ground up in the very heart of the city: engineered without compromise for the future. Where you are steps away from the tools and the resources you need to care for your patients, mentor your students, and consult with your colleagues.

The new St. Paul’s:

Pioneered at St. Paul’s by Dr. John Webb, TAVI has become the gold standard for heart valve replacement in high-risk patients and has helped more than 250,000 people in 40+ countries. As part of a global teaching initiative, TAVI procedures at St. Paul’s are live-streamed to medical professionals around the world.

Where research and collaboration drive innovation, transform theories and concepts into real solutions for patients, and contribute to St. Paul’s global research leadership.

Where our patients get the care they need to stay healthy, to better manage chronic illness, and to enjoy an improved quality of life.

Dr. Don Sin, Director, Centre for Heart Lung Innovation I can see St. Paul’s becoming a place of exceptional excellence. Right now, we’re #3 in the world for COPD research. I believe we can be #1 in 10 years; all we need is the infrastructure to support our ideas and innovations. The new St. Paul’s: I want to be part of that. Our patients want to be part of that. Our staff, students, and trainees want to be part of that.

Dr. Elisabet Joa and Dr. Antoinette Van den Brekel were instrumental in saving the lives of Brittany Forrest and her premature baby, Jaxon. When Brittany went into cardiac arrest, neither she nor her baby was getting any oxygen. Fortunately, she was at St. Paul’s. Within minutes of the Code Blue – in the middle of the night – teams from obstetrics, NICU, and cardiology worked in tandem to perform an emergency C-section, resuscitate the baby, and get Brittany into surgery. St. Paul’s is, and will continue to be, the provincial centre for high-risk pregnancies.

Astrid Levelt, Director, Medical Affairs

The new St. Paul’s will establish the gold standard for acute, primary, and community health care so we can continue to meet the needs of our patients on Station Street, in the broader community, and across BC. After all, St. Paul’s has always been a place of healing,

Dr. Dan Kalla, Department Head, Emergency

We’re one of the most efficient emergency departments in the country, and we’re very proud of that. But our physical plant is up to 100 years old and our space is jerry-rigged together. The idea that there’s a new and better way to treat patients is very exciting for us all.

St. Paul’s sits at the epicentre of the opioid crisis, providing patients and staff with a hybrid combination of emergency medicine, mental health services, and an evidence-based approach to addiction and recovery. This is not only saving lives, it is helping redefine substance use policy and care across BC.

So much will change when St. Paul’s moves from Burrard Street to Station Street. What won’t change is our culture of innovation and the opportunity to collaborate with other titans of medicine.

The new St. Paul’s is you: In a state of-the-art facility, delivering the best of care, making research breakthroughs, and changing lives – including your own.

The new St. Paul’s:

The new St. Paul’s quite literally starts with you. Your passion. Your compassion. Your leadership.

And now, more than ever, your generous support.

The hospital design brings caregivers to patients, not the other way around. Even greater collaboration among clinicians, researchers, and now industry partners, ensures discoveries travel the fastest possible path to patient care.

A holistic continuum ensures the care patients receive on-site is bridged with home- and community-based programs.

Compassion is a hallmark of care throughout St. Paul’s. In the Kidney Care Clinic, it’s helping patients stay engaged and hopeful during their long, uncomfortable hours of dialysis.

The need for spiritual comfort and reflection are honoured with devotional spaces for Catholic, interfaith, and Indigenous communities to celebrate, mourn, pray, and commune.

purpose built specifically to put people first. Dr. Martin Trotter, Department Head, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Although I may be retired when the new St. Paul’s opens, I am motivated to help us transition to the new site and to new models of care: where our patients are treated like important guests.

PURPOSE BUILT. PEOPLE FIRST. The new St. Paul’s will enhance the delivery of health care in unprecedented ways. From the intersection of science and compassion, we will transform lives and livelihoods for people in British Columbia, across Canada, and around the world.

St. Paul’s academic mission is furthered with generously sized, interactive spaces for teaching, training, simulation, and research.

The new St. Paul’s is the hospital you and our patients deserve.

Flexible spaces give you, our patients, specialists, and other team members a place to consult and confer.

Labs, imaging, pharmacy, and other shared services are logically linked and accessible under one roof.

at adjacent clinics.

Advanced technology underpins radical advances in patient care and safety, patient/caregiver communications, research, and yes, campus-wide WiFi.

The design is informed by doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and most importantly, patients. It is welcoming to all and supports wellness through green spaces, natural light and views, soothing walkways, and public art.

State-of-the-art labs and clinical areas are designed to accommodate future needs and priorities.

Almost everything is brand new, leading-edge, and judiciously curated to offer the best experience possible for you and our patients.

Wayfinding is designed for patients. Areas accessed most frequently are closest to the entrances. Drop people off near to where they’re actually going and then conveniently park underground.

Complementary programs are co-located to encourage collaboration and information-sharing. The entire campus becomes an instrument to facilitate the exchange of ideas, innovation, and new, creative connections.

Patients check-in with volunteers or at a digital kiosk (similar to an airport). Records and test results are quickly available to the departments connected with their care.

The new St. Paul’s starts here. Today. When the doors open at the new St. Paul’s, it will stand firmly among the world’s great health care centres. And yet, it is so much more than a building. It’s where you’ll work. Where you’ll care for your patients. Where you’ll want your own loved ones to come if they need care.

Give the gift of a lifetime.

Your gift is so much more than a donation. It’s an investment. An investment that will transform the future of health care for you, our patients, and the people of British Columbia.

Your support is so much more than an expression of your generosity. It’s an endowment in the future of our hospital and the chance to follow in the remarkable footsteps of the founding Sisters. It’s an opportunity to champion the next century of care at St. Paul’s as a pioneer, a visionary, a leader, a difference-maker. And it starts here. Today.

Dr. Jeff Pike, Physician Lead, Clinical Planning, new St. Paul’s The opportunity to build a completely new health campus in BC will not happen again in our lifetimes. And we share a deep responsibility to deliver on this. Your gift will have an impact today, and for generations to come.
