If
Running an ultramarathon is an extraordinar y feat But for ex Etonbur y puil Jack Jarrett, 21, and friend Marcus Wilson, 19, it wasn't just about testing their physical limits Their mission was to run from London to Paris to raise funds for Tough To Talk, a charity focused on encouraging conversations around men's mental health and reducing male suicide
“We wanted to do something that really pushed us to our limits,” Jack told the Arlesey News “A few months before the run, I was personally struggling with my mental health Men are often told to keep quiet, to ‘man up ’ But we wanted to send a different message, that talking about what you’re going through is a strength, not a weakness.” Their adventure kicked off at Big Ben in London, with the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris as their finish line. By the final
days, both were suffering from knee pain, exhaustion, and muscle fatigue Despite the agony, they pressed on, buoyed by messages of suppor t Their hard work paid off Stepping foot at the Eiffel Tower was a moment of pure triumph Through their effor t, Jack and Marcus raised £3,200 for Tough To Talk The pair aren’t done yet as they’re toying with the idea of running from Valencia to Barcelona in the future! For more info on the charity they suppor ted visit www.toughtotalk.com
Arlesey celebrated the anniversar y of VE Day with a raising of the flagpole ceremony on the morning of the 8th May, and a ser vice held at the War memorial and parade later in the day.

In Cold War Candles: Adventures of a Seventies Seafarer, retired mariner and now-local resident Nick Eliason invites readers aboard a riveting, globe - trotting journey that char ts not only the wild seas of the British Merchant Navy era but also the coming -ofage of a young man set adrift on tides of histor y, ambition, and the unknown Now living a quieter life far from the stormy decks and humming Morse keys, the author reminds us how the ripples of youth never truly settle For those with salt in their veins or simply a love of true stories well told, Cold War Candles is a compelling read The book is available to purchase on Amazon by via the QR code here

Two updates for you this month - firstly my day our with our local Police Officers and secondly, information on the new revised bus routes for Secondr y school children:
Many residents have raised concern around a perceived rise in crime, so in an effor t to find out what our local police deal with on a daily basis, I spent a day finding out
BLUE LIGHT RUN NO.1 We were off, hur tling down the A1 in a big 4x4 to an RTC where thankfully nobdoy was hur t two vehicles were damaged as were a house. The next couple of hours were a little calmer, as PC Sharp drove me around Arlesey, Fair field, Stotfold, Stondon, Meppershall and Shefford
Our next call out was for a person seen walking along the A1m at Astwick After this It was time for some refreshment, and an oppor tunity to meet up with PCSO Tasha The over-riding message from Tasha was whatever the crime, repor t! It forms an impor tant par t of collating intelligence
Back on patrol, we returned to Arlesey where we notice a couple of potential vehicles of interest, one driving slightly erratically With reason to stop them the officer had a chat and carried out some checks, nothing was untoward, but again it was a positive oppor tunity to engage
Finishing the day with PCSO Tasha in Arlesey who was acting on local intelligence regarding continued anti- social behaviour was a positive way to end the day with some new information all in all, the day was a good one and I was impressed with the variety of incidents the community policing team cover
I sit on the Police and Crime panel at Central Bedfordshire Council and the PCC presented to us about investment in recruitment During my “shift” I was pleased to meet one trainee PCSO and two trainee PCs attending various incidents My next questions to the PCC will be about how he intends to invest in staff retention It’s a hard job, and often a thankless task Big thanks to Chief IInspector Goldsmith, PC Jack Sharp and PCSO Tasha Healy for looking after me for the day! PCSO Tasha Healy can be contacted on tasha.healey@beds.police.uk or sign up to https://www.bedsconnected.co.uk/ for updates.
A BUS THAT MIGHT JUST WORK FOR ALL.
It is with huge pleasure (and crossed fingers) that I bring you the approved new bus timetable, which for the first time in histor y should accommodate both children from Fair field and Arlesey to deliver them to school at both Pix Brook Academy and Etonbur y Academy in one big swoop! I’d like to thank officers at Central Bedfordshire Council, the bus company, Mr Adams from Pix Brook and Mr Bodger and Mr Craddock from Etonbur y along with Arlesey and Fair field Town and Parish councils for all their input and suppor t to finally make this happen. To make the new times work we have moved the bus stop known as Etonbur y Academy Stotfold Road Bus Stop from its current position to slightly fur ther up the road towards Pix Brook The new location will be signposted on one of the lamp columns

The star t of the summer term with amazingly warm weather and longer evenings is a great time to be in schools
Perhaps I’m already becoming nostalgic as this is my last summer term in any school and whenever one is approaching a significant change it is natural to become reflective, maybe even sentimental For tunately, schools do not allow for too much introspection, there is far too much to do and this term is no different This year and this term have been no different We received our recruitment numbers into year five for September and this initiates a host of activity Having another full year group joining the school means that we will finally have a school with all year groups in place.
Over the course of May we under took our first set of GCSE mock examinations. As has been the case throughout their time at the school our oldest year group are once again the pathfinders and they have responded magnificently to the challenge of under taking “formal” examinations in our hall with external invigilators. Obviously, the biggest change for the school was the arrival of Mrs Linehan, our new Principal and Mrs Daplyn our new Vice Principal who joined us after Easter Their impact is already being felt around the school and I know they have been impressed with our pupils and the suppor t we receive from our community What is clear is that the core purpose of our school will remain the same: the day- to-day teaching and learning provided to young people to prepare them for their futures At PBA we often discuss pupils “life chances” This phrase encapsulates the essence and purpose of all schools: to improve young people’s life chances As educators we understand that a good education, in combination with good health and good oppor tunities will provide young people with the best chance to achieve their goals This mission is embraced by all at PBA and it will be exciting to see this develop over the next few years
Mr Adams
It is a privilege to introduce myself to the local Arlesey and Stotfold community as the new Principal of Pix Brook Academy I am passionate about the education of young people and dedicated to ensuring ever y pupil reaches their full potential
My career as a senior leader in secondar y education spans the last 15 years, during which I have worked across a number of schools, gaining a wide range of experience. I am excited and honoured to lead Pix Brook Academy into its next chapter and look for ward to working closely with all who make the Pix Brook community so great. Like you, I wish Mr Adams a well-deser ved retirement and look for ward to new stories about life outside of education.
Having joined Pix Brook after the Easter break, the Summer Term has provided a fantastic oppor tunity for me to get to know the pupils, and I have been impressed by their engagement and commitment to their learning I am par ticularly looking for ward to the upcoming schedule of trips and visits, which promise to enrich the pupils' learning experiences We also have the academy's renowned spor ts day, a highlight of the school calendar We will welcome our new Year 5s on site for their step- up day in early July, as well as the pupils’ families for the Welcome Evening This is always a truly hear t-warming moment
Looking ahead to September, we will have a full school and more responsibility than ever to suppor t and guide the young people of our local area I cannot wait to share and celebrate our pupils’ successes over the coming months and years

Well the numbers speak for themselves again this month, with 737 food parcels, plus 446 top up bags, in only 20 working days. This is a massive amount of need and for us an incredible amount of work. The monetar y value if we had to purchase all our food would this month be approximately £52,365. But with your donations in so many ways - be it collection points in supermarkets and shops or collection points in schools and churches and so many more places, we are able to continue to do what we are called to do. So thank you.
We now have, through God’s grace, mercy and incredible favour, a permanent home in Stotfold, which is the Methodist Chapel on the crossroads.
It seems to have taken ages to finally get the keys and sor t out all the bits that go along with the purchase, but we are in The builders are in already, working on stage one of our plans This is to develop the ground floor area, into our food provision operation, which is and always has been our priority and will continue to be so - We have now just had a meeting with our architect, about drawings and ideas about how phase two will develop, which will continue to be a place of worship on Sundays, but will be able to be used for so many community functions and uses This we will share as it becomes more clearer
We are in a ver y blessed position that we can fully finance phase one and are actively seeking funding and suppor t to finance phase two, which is the upper level, which will include a cafe and function room and various other options
We would as always value your prayers as we seek God’s will on all we do It is incredibly exciting, but also a big responsibility to get it right
When we star ted this project, some 22 years ago, we never dreamed or even imagined, we would be where we are now and what our future was all those years ago. But, here we are still doing what we were called to do, but now with this new home, we can do so much more.
Praise God Always
If you want to know more just come and ask. Gordon.

Dear Editor,
Please can I give a big shout out to A Complete Cleaning Ser vices Ltd, (Rod and Robbie) their number I obtained from our local Arlesey News Magazine They did an amazing job for us, cleaning gutters facias, all paintwork, PVC and windows both inside and out in this current red hot weather! They made a superb job and I would thoroughly recommend them Regards, Verna Bull
Dear Editor,
I would like to thank Geoff of Full Flow Cleaning for the excellent job he has recently done on jet washing our patio. He arrived punctually and worked for nearly 3 hours successfully removing a stubborn build up of several years of dir t and lichen- The patio now looks as good as new We can happily recommend Geoff for this type of job. Regards, Sue Wor thington

Football can be a cruel spor t. After sitting in playoff places almost the entirety of the season, Arlesey sadly just missed out on the post season festivities, on the last day of the campaign Tommy’s boys threw the proverbial kitchen sink at it, concluding the season with NINE games unbeaten and FIVE clean sheets
Putting that disappointment to the side, it’s wor th celebrating that it’s the best season the club has had in over a decade and with a busy summer ahead, the future looks bright at New Lamb Meadow
Speaking of the future, both Arlesey Town U18’s and U16’s picked up silver ware in the last few weeks The Under 18’s were crowned Divisional Champions in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League, and won their Divisional Cup Semi Final, to put them firmly in the driving seat for an incredible double
The U16’s put the disappointment of not quite being able to wrap up the league title, with an incredible per formance in the Bedfordshire County Cup final, winning the trophy on penalties The mental for titude to have bounced back so strong and so quickly is a testament to the boys and the coaching staff We are hugely proud of both teams!
Finally, with eyes already looking towards the 2025/26 campaign, we are delighted to announce that season tickets will be making a triumphant return, but in digital format They will go on sale next month (June), please do keep checking our website and our Ticket Shop for more information
Matchday tickets, club events, and Membership can be purchased online from our website www.arlesey townfc.co.uk our ticket shop at www.ticketsource.co.uk/arlesey-townfootball-club or by scanning the QR Code on the right. We look for ward to seeing you soon!
Thank you to Julie & Steve Maddox for kindly lending us these wonder ful shots and ar ticles on the Arlesey Pram
Race A well known and loved Arlesey tradition from the 1980’s run by Arlesey Young Wives, the Pram Race involved racing through Arlesey in prams (some modified more than others!) with the ‘baby’ in the pram having to drink a half pint of beer for ever y pub they stopped at With 11 on the route, it made for an eventful day! Fantastic memories! Thank you to Janice Leger for giving these to Julie & Steve for us to share

In the Christian calendar June is the month we celebrate Pentecost After that first Easter, 50 days after Jesus’ resurrection, the disciples, Jesus’ special friends, were gathered in anticipation They were waiting in hope for the coming of the Holy Spirit, God’s Spirit into their lives And as they waited, the power of God came upon them and flames of fire rested upon those gathered in that moment It was the beginning of the early church, sometimes called the bir thday of the church An outpouring of God’s power and love. It would be the catalyst that would send those few followers into the world to tell the stor y of Jesus and to share God’s love.
It is a wonder ful account of God equipping and providing a future for humanity. God fulfilling promises to always be present and at work in the world. Pentecost is a festival of hope, of all that God brings. A hope that continues to this
day and is celebrated by Christians across the globe
Sometimes our world, our places, our homes can feel uncer tain and we need to look hard for moments and glimmers of hope But they are often there, in the kind word offered, in the random or intentional act of kindness, in just being alongside another, offering each other a space and a place to be We can all be bringers of hope into all sor ts of circumstances Why not think about how you can be a bringer of hope to a situation, a place, or another person today?
St Peter ’s Church is open ever y day and ever yone is welcome to come into the church to enjoy the space, a place of peace and prayer or join in any of the Sunday ser vices. We look for ward to seeing you.
All are welcome to Ser vices at St Peter ’s in June 2025
