The St Michael’s College community is comprised of a diverse range of cultural, social and religious backgrounds, all aspiring to a common purpose - for young people to flourish and be the best they can be.
Our staff, students and families continue to work together to create an inclusive and respectful community where each individual is known, valued and cared for. This relational environment is essential for each person to feel confident to explore their curiosities, likes and interests, to flourish and fully realise their potential.
My hope for 2024 is that each individual can be fully engaged in College life and a positive learning culture that is authentic, challenging and supportive, no matter who you are, where you come from or what you aspire to.
This booklet is subject to change and will be regularly updated on the College website and SEQTA.
Tony Daley PrincipalSt Michael’s College is dedicated to a whole of College approach to facilitate our Catholic and Lasallian educational experience. Our strong heritage is based on the principles of 300 years of Lasallian Education, guided by the De La Salle Brothers and our Founder’s teachings.
A member of the global Lasallian family, St Michael’s College is committed to create a welcoming, inclusive Lasallian community, aligned with strategic commitment to optimise student experiences and outcomes.
Our commitment is to provide opportunities that will prepare students to be compassionate and enthusiastic participants in society who prioritise service to others, especially the marginalised and those in need. Guided by Lasallian teachings, enriched by contemporary educational theory and practices, students, staff and families are empowered to flourish and find success.
St Michael’s College is a Catholic school in the Lasallian tradition which is committed to the human and Christian education of the young, especially the poor*, through Community, Challenge, Choice.
We are an inclusive and respectful community where each individual is known, valued and cared for, enabling them to feel confident to explore their curiosities, flourish and fully realise their potential.
Individual growth is achieved through engagement, opportunity and recognition, underpinned by a positive learning culture that is authentic, challenging and supportive.
Through a quality Lasallian education, inspired by the Gospel and a concern for social justice, students are empowered to better choose who they become as people, learners and leaders in the world.
The origins of Lasallian education date back to 17th century French priest St John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian schools (De La Salle Brothers).
St John Baptist de La Salle was born in Rheims in 1651 to wealthy parents. A highly educated person, St John was preparing for his ordination into the priesthood in 1678 when he was inspired to become a teacher after a meeting with a lay teacher. Responding to the needs of impoverished boys, he established schools which were accessible to all, especially to the socially and economically deprived.
In 1719 St John Baptist de La Salle died, but his philosophy continued to grow and expand. His idea of providing education for young people that reflects the values of Jesus Christ inspired a tradition which now spans across 80 countries. St John Baptist de La Salle was canonised in 1900, and in 1950 Pope Pius XII named him Patron of Teachers.
The first Lasallian school in Australia opened by the Brothers in 1906 and was located in Armidale, New South Wales.
In 1954, St Michael’s College, Beverley was founded to cater for the growing population in the western suburbs of Adelaide. With an enrolment of 29 students on that first day, St Michael’s College today boasts an enrolment of over 1950 students. The College will be fully co-educational in 2027.
St Michael was the great champion of God when the first creatures rebelled against their Creator. God called upon the angels who had chosen Michael to throw Lucifer and his companions out of heaven down into darkness. The archangel who led the army of the faithful angels cried out a mighty war cry:
Mi (who) Ka (is like) El (God)! Who is like God!
‘Who is like God’ is reflected on the College crest in Latin “Quis et Deus”.
This war cry became the archangel’s name Michael. Quis ut deus: Latin for ‘who is like God’.
Glorious Cross: symbol of salvation and resurrection.
Laurel leaves: symbol of reward and achievement.
Shield: symbol of strength, faith and fortitude.
Star of Bethlehem: symbol of the sign of faith.

This facility allows families to have their fees automatically deducted over the school year on a payment cycle suitable to their circumstances.
The College is proud of its facilities, which are enhanced with parents’ significant assistance through contributions to the building fund. The levy is a non-compulsory annual contribution charged on a per-family basis. It allows for the continued upgrade, maintenance and improvement of the facilities of both the Primary and Secondary Campuses.
The building fund levy is tax deductible.
The cost of VET courses varies greatly. However, the College will generally contribute 50% of all training fees, with parents covering the remaining 50%. Refer to the VET Policy and Guidelines for further information.

• 12% discount on the tuition fee for the second child.
• 22% discount on the tuition fee for the third child.
• No tuition fee is charged for the fourth and subsequent child/children whilst all children attend St Michael’s College.
When determining whether a family will receive the discount, consideration will be given to circumstances such as whether the children are all enrolled under the same party’s name or if the family member can demonstrate full financial responsibility for the children’s school fees.
A tuition fee discount of 50% is provided to families who qualify for the Department for Education (DfE) School Card scheme. It is granted to applicants according to guidelines set by DfE and must be applied for annually.
Families who may qualify for the School Card discount should complete Form A – Income Audit or Form B –Hardship/Change of Circumstances/Self-Employed.
We recommend that families submit School Card applications online via the DfE website. Search “School Card Scheme” from a web browser. Please note that applications for the 2024 school year will not be open until mid to late January 2024.
Families opting to apply using a hardcopy form may download the form from the DfE website or contact the College Fees Department at 8150 2324. Completed School Card Form A forms must be provided to the College Fees Department before 31 January 2024.
Families applying for School Card using Form B must submit their application online or in hardcopy directly to DfE.
The College will process the School Card discount when DfE confirms eligibility.

Part-year enrolments are eligible for the discount if the account is paid in full within 30 days of the tuition fee invoice date.
Accounts will not be split unless a Court Order specifies this requirement. Parents must make their own arrangements regarding the payment of accounts. It is the legal responsibility of each signatory on the enrolment contract to pay all tuition fees.

Where there are two parent/caregiver signatories, both parties are jointly and severally liable for fees and charges. Additionally, to conclude an enrolment, both parties must provide written notice to the College.
Verbal notification to a staff member other than the Principal or Registrar is not considered due notice. Failure to provide the required notice will result in fees for the following term, depending upon circumstances.
Should less than one terms’ written notice to conclude enrolments prior to the completion of Term 3 be provided, enrolling parties will remain liable to pay the tuition fees and other associated costs for the following term.
If parents/caregivers wish to terminate a student’s enrolment for the following school year, notice of a student’s withdrawal must be given in writing to the registrar prior to week 4 of Term 4. Should such notice not be provided within that timeframe, enrolling parties will remain liable to pay tuition fees and other associated costs for Term 1 of the following year.
A pro rata portion of the relevant fees will be charged (or rebated) if students commence or finish their studies partway through a term (although if insufficient notice of such withdrawal is provided, then the abovementioned charges will be applied). However, in any event, no rebate will apply for students leaving after starting Term 4, regardless of whether one months’ written notice has been provided.
Payment of fees is still required when a student is absent from school for any length of time, such as for an overseas trip, holiday or sickness.
The College reserves the right to pass overdue accounts to debt collection agencies. If this occurs, families are responsible for paying the collection costs as per the parent/guardian declaration in the Enrolment Contract.
Any default debt may also be reported to a credit reporting agency.
A $55.00 administration fee will be charged for all accounts paid after the due date unless prior arrangements have been confirmed in writing by the College.
Fee Statements are provided each term and uploaded to the SEQTA Engage, the parent portal.
Parents/Caregivers must ensure their email addresses are kept current via Consent2Go.
Please contact the Registrar if your son or daughter is not returning to the College in 2024.
Withdrawal of enrolments affects many areas of the College and your cooperation greatly assists in resource planning.
The College has negotiated a Student Accident Insurance Policy with AON.
The ‘Student Protection Plan’ provides cover for all students whilst at school or undertaking school activities (including work experience).
In the event of an accident, resulting in injuries as listed in the policy a ‘School Student Accident Claim’ form will need to be completed in conjunction with the College. AON will then access the claim.
