Lexus confirms April arrival for RX 450h+ PHEV
Lexus has confirmed that the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV will be available in its national retailer network in April 2025.
The starting price, excluding on-road costs, is $123,500. The RX PHEV’s introduction follows the recent reopening of NX 450h+ orders after high global demand led to a temporary delay.
The RX 400h helped spark what would become a Lexus legacy for innovation in pioneering batteryassisted powertrain technology, with a commitment to reduce CO2 tailpipe emissions versus comparable petrol-only vehicles.
Today, more than 3 million Lexus vehicles feature a hybrid or plug-in hybrid battery-assisted powertrains have been delivered to customers around the world.
Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas says having a plug-in hybrid option for its two top-selling luxury SUVs supports the brand’s electrification expansion and multi-pathway approach to reducing CO2 tailpipe emissions.
“Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are a key step in the customer journey from standalone internal combustion engines to full-electric mobility,” Pappas says.
“For many Lexus customers, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are the right powertrain for the moment, offering the best of both worlds as we continue to develop infrastructure to support a greater uptake of battery electric vehicles.”
The RX is a unique model for Lexus, with the RX 400h making headlines upon global debut in 2004 as the first luxury SUV available with an electrified hybrid powertrain.
The new RX 450h+ utilises a 2.5-litre series-parallel plug-in hybrid paired with front and rear electric motors to produce a combined system output of 227kW, with 0-100 km/h acceleration in a claimed 6.5 seconds.
It is the same hybrid powertrain used in the NX 450h+, with a lithium-ion battery designed to be the primary power source for inner urban driving, resulting in an Australian Design Rule (ADR), fuel consumption of 1.3L/100 km based on the NEDC combined test cycle.
The RX 450h+ comes exclusively in Sports Luxury grade, positioned just below the RX 500h F Sport Performance in price, with the two high-end RX grades offering a distinctive take on luxury to meet the diverse needs of customers.
The RX 450h+ combines sophisticated luxury with an array of features, including semi-aniline leatheraccented seat trim, 10-way power-adjustable front seats with memory, heated and ventilated front and outboard rear seats, a woodgrain look instrument panel and steering wheel ornamentation, as well as power reclining and folding rear seats.
With the introduction of the RX450h+, the large luxury SUV from Lexus is now available with three powertrains – petrol, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles – in both two-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
Customers can also select from seven trim grades and two enhancement packs to suit their preferences.

Rally for a Cause started when a group of Fraser Coast business owners were faced with the unthinkable. One of their friends had a vibrant healthy child suddenly struck down with an aggressive brain tumour.
Thus the concept of RfaC was born. The Dunga Derby is the major fundraising event to support the Rally for A Cause Charity in their efforts to support local Fraser and Sunshine Coast families with life-limiting medical conditions in need of financial and/or practical assistance.

Anxiety doesn’t stop for your AFL career
Living his dream in the AFL, Liam Stocker never thought mental health would be a concern. After years of working towards getting drafted, he had finally achieved his goal. However, anxiety led him to question his place in the football industry.
Seeking support, Liam chose to share his experience, hoping to reduce stigma around men’s mental health.
“What is going wrong? You’re an AFL footballer, living your dream. I couldn’t bear to admit I needed help.”
Liam’s struggles began early. When he was four months old, his father got a job in Beijing, leading the family to move overseas before eventually settling back in Australia in 2010. Just three days after returning, Liam attended his first school camp.
“All I can really remember is just thinking everyone hated me and struggling to fit in,” he said. “Eventually, I got to a point where I was stressing about where I was sitting at lunchtime, who I was going to speak to, whether I looked like a loner.”
His first panic attack left him feeling helpless.
“I couldn’t figure out a little problem. I threw a pen, slammed my head into my desk. I just had no control over how I was feeling.”
“I struggled to understand how someone like me could go through this. When I got drafted, I was proud, but my emotions shifted quickly.”
Believing AFL players lived worry-free, Liam soon learned otherwise. Despite battling anxiety, he found solace in the sport, hiding behind his identity on the field. But when the game ended, reality hit hard.
Liam began having thoughts of self-harm, questioning his passion for football. He considered retiring, struggling with the idea of seeking help, fearing it made him weak.
“I liked to think I was tough, like the perfect 80s or 90s footballer. That’s how I grew up.”
The support he received changed everything. Once those around him realized something was wrong, they put in the time to help him recover. With guidance from a psychologist, psychiatrist, and medication, he developed strategies to stay present and avoid spiraling. Leaning on his support system played a crucial role in his journey.
Now, Liam uses his platform to show others they’re not alone.
“I’m an AFL footballer, but I can be human. Struggling is okay. I know other people struggle, I know everyone does. That’s what makes it okay for me to (struggle).”

Australian EV growth forecast for next five years
Australian EV sales will account for 11% (130,000) of new cars sold in 2025, up from 9% (115,000) in 2024.
So says Jet Charge future business head Kristian Handberg, adding that with government incentives, expanding charging networks, and more models hitting the road, EV adoption is on track for major growth from 2025 to 2030.
Handberg reckons half of new car sales will be electric by 2030, which he says is consistent with government targets.
He says about 21.7% of medium SUVs sold in 2025 will be EVs.
“This is the highest selling segment in the Australian market, so we will see the largest increase of EV models thanks to the New Vehicle Efficiency Standards (NVES) where all manufacturers have to sell a larger number of low-emissions vehicles to offset new combustion vehicle sales.”
Handberg expects about 10 new medium SUV EVs will potentially become available in 2025.
That’s 40 total, versus 30 in 2024, with the majority of sales likely claimed by the Tesla Model Y (having a major update under the Jupiter facelift this year), and the BYD Sealion 6 and 7, he says.
EV utes are finally on the road too, says Jet Charge. As the second highest selling segment in the vehicle market, it has been without EV options until now.
While the BYD Shark PHEV launched last year, deliveries began in 2025. Jet Charge predicts 12,000 EV utes will be sold in 2025 – primarily BYD Shark PHEVs but also LDV Terron 9 and Geely Riddara RD6 BEVs.
Small passenger vehicles will drop in price and make EVs more affordable than ever, with a mainstream price point of $30,000, says Jet Charge.
“The cheapest EV options include the BYD Dolphin, Leapmotor T03, MG4 and GWM Ora.
“This segment will make for 17,000 sales in 2025.”
Industry body welcomes $400M commitment to Right to Repair
The Australian order book has opened for the limited edition Maserati GT2 Stradale, a more powerful and lighter version of the MC20 supercar.
The Maserati GT2 Stradale will only be available in Australia as a special customer order.
It is priced at $699,000 plus on-road costs.
“For now, it is unclear how many Maserati GT2 Stradale models will be allocated to us,” Maserati Australia and New Zealand general manager Grant Barling says.
“We are doing our best to secure as many as possible. But we expect demand will exceed supply globally, and therefore, it will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We will only receive vehicles for customer orders, and we must compete with other markets for our allocation, so people who want one will need to get in quick,” he says.
EVC welcomes NSW infrastructure investment
The New South Wales government’s investment in EV charging stations on nine road trips will make it easier for Australians to explore the state in an EV while supporting sustainable tourism, says the Electric Vehicle Council.
The EV-friendly routes take drivers through some of NSW’s top tourist destinations, including the Central Coast to the Hunter Valley, the Southern Highlands to the South Coast, and Sydney to the Blue Mountains., the EVC says.
EVC chief executive Julie Delvecchio says EV charging stations are strategically placed every 100km or less.
“This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking approach we need to accelerate EV adoption across Australia,” she says.
“Range anxiety has been a barrier to EV uptake, and by making it easier for drivers to see where they can travel and charge this initiative directly addresses that concern.
“While many new EVs can travel 400km on a single charge, initiatives like these tackle concerns about range anxiety head on.”
Delvecchio says EV-friendly routes bring economic opportunities to regional economies.
“Unlike traditional highways that can divert traffic, this initiative brings people into regional communities – encouraging stops at cafes, shops, and attractions, making regional travel even more appealing,” she says.
“This is a win-win for drivers, businesses, and sustainability.”
The NSW government’s nine EV-friendly road trips launch as Western Australia completes Australia’s longest connected EV-charging highway.
The WA EV Network – spanning Mundrabilla near the South Australian border all the way to Kununurra near the Northern Territory border – has 110 charging points across 49 locations.

Meanwhile, a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) roadmap is a turning point for Australia’s energy future, says the EVC, adding it’s a crucial step toward lowering power bills and stablising the grid.
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has released a National Roadmap for Bidirectional EV Charging, which outlines modelling, opportunities and recommendations.
Delvecchio says the roadmap for bidirectional charging has the potential to unlock significant economic and energy system benefits and coordinated action is needed to realise its full potential.
“Australia is a world leader in rooftop solar. This gives us a running start to be a world leader in bidirectional EV charging as well, if we choose to be.
“Our abundant solar energy creates opportunities for EVs to store excess daytime generation and discharge it to the grid when needed,” she says.
“Bidirectional EV charging is one of the keys to unlocking lower energy prices for everyone, not just the EV drivers, and to provide electricity reliability.”
The EVC says it has worked with ARENA in the roadmap’s development, adding iy encourages the government to consider the report recommendations calling for time-limited rebates for installations, support for manufacturers homologating products to the Australian market, and work on communication and awareness of the benefits of bidirectional EV charging.

Range extended Leapmotor C10 arriving in March
Leapmotor Australia is introducing the company’s newest REEV (Range Extender Electric Vehicle) technology in Australia with the Leapmotor C10 REEV.
The Stellantis joint venture brand currently has 12 dealerships in major cities, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and Canberra, with more dealerships announced later this year.
Arriving in March, this technology combines the benefits of electric vehicles (EVs) and traditional fuel cars, offering a hybrid solution that allows drivers a range of up to 1150km, according to New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) testing.
This solution provides the flexibility Australian drivers need while still reducing fuel consumption, with introductory drive-away pricing from $45,900 for customers who purchase and take delivery before June 30, 2025.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV will launch with the same two generously equipped variants Style and Design.
The Style variant features striking 18-inch black double five-spoke wheels, an immersive 14.6″ high-definition central display, and 17 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) features including a 360-degree camera and over-the-air update capability.
The Design variant adds to the luxury with larger 20-inch trident sporty wheels, multi-colour interior ambient lighting, and heated steering wheel and front seating.
REEV Capabilities
The Leapmotor C10 REEV is equipped with a 158kW electric motor and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine.
The 28.4 kWh battery allows for an electric range of up to 170km (NEDC) and a combined range of up to 1150km (NEDC). Combined fuel consumption is quoted at 0.9L/100km and the combined C02 emissions are 21 g/km.
It operates primarily as an electric vehicle, with the electric motor driving the wheels. When the battery charge gets low, the internal combustion engine (ICE) ignites to generate electricity, recharging the battery and extending the driving range. This allows
the Leapmotor C10 REEV to offer the smooth, quiet, responsive driving experience of an electric vehicle, while also providing consumers the flexibility of a traditional engine for longer trips.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV also allows for both AC and DC fast charging, meaning a considerable range can be added in a short time. With DC fast charging, the vehicle can charge 30-80% in 18 minutes.
Intelligent interior design
The Leapmotor C10 REEV offers ample space with 546L of cargo volume, expanding to 1375L with folded second-row seats, plus 26 storage compartments
and 180-degree flat-fold seating. The interior features a hollow front armrest box with concealed USB ports and wireless charging, while the Design trim’s OEKO-TEX® silicone leather seats ensure safety and comfort.
The digital cockpit includes a 14.6” HD infotainment system, a 10.25” driver display, steering wheel fiveway scroll buttons, and dual-zone voice recognition. Available intelligent ambient lighting syncs with the 12-speaker surround sound system, delivering 7.1-channel audio with 840W output and four listening modes.
The Leapmotor C10 REEV connects via the Leapmotor app, offering a Bluetooth key, real-time location tracking, and remote air-conditioning. Embedded 4G enables apps like Spotify and Zoom without a smartphone. The NFC-enabled keycard allows seamless vehicle access via the driver’s side mirror.
