BASIC AUDIO 4 sessions, 2 hours each Min class size 3 students, max 8 students

Course Description This four-session, three hour class, is intended to be a fast-paced, hands-on bootcamp on the technical aspects of audio production and basic editing. Students will learn how to gather audio using professional quality studio and field gear, and be introduced to the Hindenburg audio editing application. Upon completion of the course, students will be certified you to use AIM’s audio production suite and use the field audio recording kits. Prerequisites AIM membership and Introduction to Community Media. Prior experience with audio recording equipment and software applications is not required. Course Objectives - At the end of this course, students will... • Understand a producer’s responsibilities when using AIM’s audio equipment • Be famailiar with the various microphones at AIM and best practices for their use and care • Know the basic operation of the Zoom H5 Handy Recorder • Know the fundamental principles of good audio production • Be able to set up the Rodecaster and studio for an in-person or remote interview • Be able to perform basic stereo recording using a digital audio workstation (DAW) • Understand basic multitrack audio editing Teaching method A variety of teaching methods are used in this course: technical guidance, class discussion, and hands-on training. Practice time outside of regular class meetings is highly encouraged. Course Expectations Arrive to class on time, take notes, be respectful of other students as well as the instructor and practice on your own time as much as possible. Attendance Class participation is one of the key measures of success in this course. Your level of attendance will have a significant effect on your participating in class activities, and affect your overall progress.
