Come visit us this summer, June 29, during the AJCA-NAJ Annual Meeting Farm Tour. Jay is the third generation of Herron to breed Jerseys at Nature View Farm in Salem Ohio. His grandfather Carl E. Herron purchased this 100 acre farm in 1945 and immediately began filling the barn with Jerseys. Sourcing genetics from select herds from across the country, his herd was nationally known and became the foundation for the herd at Nature View Farms. Jay's Jersey roots actually go back five generations. His maternal great-great grandfather Herbert Zimmerman, great grandfather Willis Zimmerman, grandfather James Zimmerman, and mother Judith (Zimmerman) Herron also milked Jerseys at their farm in Salem. Jay graduated from Ohio State University in 1993 with a bachelor of science degree in dairy science and joined the family dairy farm that year. In 2007 Jay made the goal to create a 100% polled Jersey herd by building on his grandfather's genetics. In 2010, Jay created polledjerseys.com to help promote using polled sires to Jersey breeders around the world. Currently Nature View Farm is milking 135 registered Jerseys and farms 1600 acres. 75% of the herd is now polled with at least 30 head being homozygous. Jay, his wife Pam, sons Jarod and Von, as well as his brother Paul and father Glen work together in this all family run operation.

This photo received the most Facebook "likes" and was submitted by Jenny Butcher of Tanbark Jerseys in Brantford, Ontario. Tanbark Jerseys was featured in the 2017 World Dairy Expo issue of #PolledPlace.
