Prefects’ report

It was an honour to be one of the 21 girls in the prefect body of 2017-2018. A wide range of talents and strengths were bound together with enthusiasm, as we embodied the theme ‘NOW: No Opportunity Wasted’. Our aim was to encourage the St Catherine’s community to challenge themselves by engaging with new, exciting and even daunting experiences. The core of NOW was the belief that seizing every opportunity, with an open-minded approach, develops us to ultimately reach our full potential.

We worked to support the charity PROJECT FUTURES which educates and empowers individuals to take action against modern slavery and human trafficking. Our main fundraising event was the annual St Cath’s Got Talent show, a showcase of the unbelievable talent of St Catherine’s girls. In total, $4500 was raised for PROJECT FUTURES in 2018.

Some highlights were the inaugural ‘Hat Census’ in Term 2, where prefects checked for girls’ correctly labelled hats, and the Prefect

Afternoon Tea, where over 40 prefects from 11 schools across Sydney joined us to unite in leadership and form new friendships.

Throughout the year, the prefects cherished the opportunity to regularly visit our allocated junior school classes. We truly appreciated the enthusiasm and warmth shown to us by the girls during every visit, and we will miss them greatly.

I am so grateful for the amazing prefects I had the privilege of working with who managed the overwhelming task of juggling leadership with studies and various co-curricular activities and duties. We also thank the many staff and girls who provided their support and guidance for another great year as a St Catherine’s community.
