Hulme-Moir 2018 had another fantastic year as the reigning house cup winners.

We started our defence with a strong showing at the swimming carnival with both Charlotte Sork and Madeleine Fairlie leading the charge for the mighty purple clan.

Clubs and Choirs was a spectacular performance of Matisyahu’s One Day involving everything from three part harmonies to a surprise drum reveal from our house captain Lisa Guo, good enough to secure us a third place finish. Our speakers Alexandra Bradley and Arietta Varvaressos conveyed ideas about hope, that made us think about our heros and how they change. They asked us to put our hope in each in other and ourselves, to lead the world forward in a more positive way.

The cross country carnival saw incredible participation from all age groups and a special mention to Year 7 who returned from camp then headed to the park to race. Our house spirit was on show as we cheered our fellow house members into second place overall.

The athletics carnival was filled with fun and frivolity as the girls charged up and down the track, Stephanie Augoustis surged home in the 100m relay which was a particular highlight.

Without a doubt, Hulme-Moir’s zenith was PC. After a few false starts with our theme, we settled on ‘Rock and Roll’. The girls put in 100 per cent effort throughout rehearsals, and the classic 70s, 80s and 90s rock hits gave us the impetus to rock out hard on the day. Our final shape, a Flying V guitar in homage to Brian May from Queen, culminated in our back-to-back victory.

We can’t thank the girls enough for their enthusiasm and their house spirit and we were rewarded by winning the house cup again. Three out of the last five years. We know the incoming house officials will do a fantastic job. Go Hulme-Moir!

Patterson encourages all girls to do their best, and this year we had an amazing amount of participation and enthusiasm for every event. Everyone supported and worked together and we are so proud of our house.

Across the sporting events, Patterson had huge participation and each girl brought enthusiasm and passion. At the beginning of the year was the swimming carnival, where we came sixth. We then had the cross country, where we also came sixth. We reached our peak at the athletics carnival, placing first. Congratulations to Ruby Madden for being the individual champion in the junior division in both cross country and athletics.

Patterson sang Sun Comes Up by Rudimental for Clubs and Choirs, with the theme ‘Home’. We demonstrated great harmony, with an array of instruments, and conductor Junias Tjanaria, to place fifth. Our junior speaker, Amelia Jacobson, and senior speaker, Lauren Nikas, presented their speeches with eloquence and humour.

Patterson also excelled academically, placing first in the mathematics competition and second in the interhouse trivia quiz. Both events showcased our amazing academic talent and excellent teamwork.

Patterson raised money to support the Pink Ribbon Foundation, a charity that raises awareness for breast and gynaecological cancers and supports prevention programs. Many girls from Years 7–11 baked goods for our bake stall and girls from Years 8–12 helped to sell baked goods, badges and give out ribbons to raise over $700.

For PC, our theme was ‘Disco’ and Patterson channelled their inner groove. The catchy music and new moves blew the judges away, and Patterson placed fifth. The girls worked extremely hard in rehearsals and created new relationships.

We are so proud of the Patterson girls and their participation and enthusiasm in all the events this year. We would like to thank our house leader Ms Yeoum, house captain Maree Nikitopoulos, vice-captain Emily Grant, and house officials Maisy Lam-Po-Tang, Nicolette Walker and Junias Tjanaria. We hope Patterson can continue with their passion for the house.

Phillips continues to grow and expand its horizons. The year started with the swimming carnival where we placed fifth overall, but placed first in the war cries, which really shows that “P-H-I-L-L-I-P-S is the best”.

Next came Clubs and Choirs, where we sang the Australian classic Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House. Thanks to conductor Rebecca Rosenberg, soloists Emily Dingle, Agnes Dawes, Honey Christensen, Samantha Corry and Lily Wong, and our talented and hard working instrumentalists Cleo Baldwin, Xun (Teddy) Zuo and Indivi Bacon. Nicole Chong and Scarlett Craig eloquently represented the public speaking category and all the girls gave their best, to earn sixth place.

Later in the year, Phillips brought their spirit to the cross country and placed fifth overall. The athletics carnival followed, where our brightly painted faces won the war cries, to place sixth overall. Congratulations to the junior relay team, Giorgia Parkes, Jasmine Buchanan, Claudia Roussel and Violetta Dawes, placing first in the 4x100m relay.

One of our proudest moments was seeing the Phillips girls stand united with thousands of other Australians to lead global change by raising funds for the 40 Hour Famine. We are extremely proud of the commitment and dedication shown by our girls to make a positive change to the world.

For PC, Phillips danced their way to the magical world of Disney and took out second place. The girls were incredible and the performance showed their hard work and dedication.

Finally, thank you to the encouraging and supportive Phillips leadership team, head of house, Ms Cartwright, house captain, Isabella Sandy, vice-captain, Indivi Bacon and house officials, Scarlett Craig, Cleo Baldwin and Sophie Parry Okeden.
