For Sutherland, 2018 was a year marked by immense enthusiasm and vitality. Under the energetic leadership of house captain Madison Lampton, vice-captain Sarah Scaffidi, and house officials, Mary Sassine, Mary Boutsalis and Mariah Issa, the girls of Sutherland united in many events. Our motto, Success through unity and courage, could not have been better exemplified with our diverse talents and eagerness to participate and have fun.

Sutherland’s PC theme was ‘Carnival’ and it was an exhilarating time for the house. Our routine consisted of several formations including a rollercoaster, a Ferris wheel and a clown face. The girls were so enthusiastic towards the theme, rehearsals and the final performance and we were incredibly proud of what we achieved together as a house.

Sutherland greeted the annual swimming and athletics carnivals with excitement, displaying high levels of participation and enormous support throughout the day. A great atmosphere of cheering and energetic war cries boosted the morale of competitors. Overall, Sutherland’s enthusiasm resulted in second place in the swimming carnival, and seventh place in the athletics carnival.

The theme for Clubs and Choirs was ‘Hope’ and the Sutherland choir dazzled the audience with our rendition of Rise Up by Andra Day. The powerful, relevant and hard-hitting themes of this song resonated with each Sutherland girl, making the song all the more personal and inspirational. This passion was not only visible at each rehearsal, but also seen by the audience and judges during our performance.

Our chosen house charity was Jeans for Genes, and we held a mufti jeans day and sold merchandise to raise money in Term 3. The overwhelming number of girls who volunteered demonstrated the commitment and enthusiasm of Sutherland girls and over $360 was raised.
