This was a year of great triumph for Barker, with incredible house spirit shown in all house events and some great results.

Barker showed off their moves in PC with the theme ‘Boot Camp’, where we successfully kicked and punched our way through the routine, earning third place.

We started 2018 with the swimming carnival, and swam our way to a spectacular first place. Our senior relay team broke the relay record and won that event, and the girls demonstrated house spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day, cheering each other on. Congratulations to all the girls who swam on the day and to Ruby Swadling, the senior champion.

We placed second in Clubs and Choirs with our performance of Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson. The girls showed great vocal and instrumental ability and gave the audience a dynamic and uplifting performance. We were so proud of the girls and the outcome of the night. Our conductor, Aisling Harrison of Year 11, also helped with the score, and our two public speakers, Annabelle Strachan of Year 8 and Julia Lim of Year 12 spoke beautifully and insightfully about the theme ‘Hope’.

In Term 2, Barker placed first in cross country, continuing to show the athletic abilities of the house. This was further demonstrated in the athletics carnival, where Barker girls ran, jumped, threw and cheered their way to third place. The day was filled with sportsmanship and fun.

To finish off the year, Barker packed their bags, headed to the airport and had a vacation for PC in Term 4.

We’d like to thank our fabulous house vice-captain, Hannah Pillinger, and house captain, Sienna White for their support and contribution throughout the year. We wouldn’t have had these amazing achievements without their constant house spirit and leadership. We’d also like to thank Ms Lamour for organising us for these events and for her motivation and encouragement. We were honoured to be house officials for Barker this year and wish the new house officials all the best for the year ahead. Congratulations Barker girls.
