Central Australia trip

Day One

We all met at the airport for the flight to Alice Springs and everyone was so excited to go Central Australia. Our first stop was the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which was started by John Flynn and we learned that every two minutes a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane is helping someone. We visited The Alice Springs School of the Air to find out how they teach children in remote areas, and saw the Aboriginal light show Parrtjima – A Festival in Light.

Day Two

We started our six-hour trip to Uluru and stopped on the way for some camel rides. We rode in pairs on two camels, Curly and Gizmo, which was scary and fun. We also stopped at Kings Canyon for a walk along the creek bed.

Day Three

We returned to Kings Canyon for a four-hour walk up the canyon, and our guide told us the Aboriginal names of plants growing on the rocks. We then went to the Ayres Rock Resort for a swim before watching the sunset and the changing colours of Uluru.

Day Four

After breakfast, we went to Uluru for our 10km walk. We only had a few breaks in the hot sun, but we saw amazing things and heard great stories. It was definitely one of the highlights. After that we went to Kata Tjuta, which was bumpy, extremely rocky, and so hot that we had to cut the walk short. We didn’t mind, because we could swim and relax.

Day Five

We woke up at 4:45am to see the Field of Light with thousands of lights in front of Uluru. After watching the sun rise over Uluru, we had our last breakfast in the Northern Territory, then headed back to Sydney. It was the best trip I have done with school.
