Sport junior school

Year 6 camp

Year 6 camp was run by The Crusaders Union of Australia and held at Galston Gorge. It was full of fun and adventure, despite all the rain. We enjoyed activities including BMX riding, indoor rock climbing, team initiative challenges and the hilarious Jacob’s ladder. A highlight of the camp was our talent night where we had a special dance by the teachers and a poetry recital by Mr Yeow. We absolutely loved our time on camp and made lots of new friends and cherished memories.

Canberra

This year, 75 courageous young ladies giggled with excitement as they journeyed to our nation’s capital. We visited Parliament and took a ‘selfie’ with the then Prime Minister, Malcom Turnbull. We visited the War Memorial to learn about the brave soldiers who fought for our rights and freedom, and enjoyed the fun activities that Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) had to offer. The Canberra trip was a memorable experience and we came away with an appreciation of Australia’s democratic values.

Cranbrook School dance

The night we had been waiting for all year finally arrived and everyone was filled with nervous excitement and expectation. It was nerve-racking at the beginning because we had to dance with boys, which was new for all of us, but we soon became comfortable and realised the boys felt the same way.

The Cranbrook School dance was fun and exciting because we socialised with people who we normally wouldn’t. It was a new and exciting experience that we all enjoyed.

yLead reflection

Stage 3 really enjoyed the yLead leadership program in Term 1. We learned how to become great leaders and what we can do to help our school and the community. Whether in the playground, during sport, in the classroom or with our friends, we learned that we can be positive examples to others.

Identity Evening

The Identity Evening was about showing people who we are. We dressed up as our ‘future selves’ and performed group metaphor poems about our strengths and future lives to an audience of our family and friends. The Jane Barker Hall was filled with our creative autobiographies, time lines and interactive identity videos on display. The Identity Evening was a truly special and very memorable event.

Write a Book in a Day (WABIAD)

In Term 3, Year 6 embarked on a glorious and challenging adventure to write a book in 12 hours. Each group used teamwork, courage and perseverance to create a masterpiece that was displayed downstairs in the junior school. Each student had a separate role, including illustrator, and the responsibility of writing and editing their own chapter. The money we raised went to The Kids’ Cancer Project and it was the first time that all of Year 6 had the chance to participate in this competition.

Solar Buddy Markets

Year 6 held the Solar Buddy Markets fundraising event that helped raise over $2000 to go toward making renewable light sources for children in Uganda. We spent many weeks learning about energy poverty and its effects on children in third world countries. We then invested our time and creative talents in coming up with interactive activities and products. This was an amazing learning opportunity and we hope the school enjoyed it as much as we did.
