2018 marked the second year of our current five year strategic plan. Under Dr Townsend’s leadership, a wide range of initiatives has been introduced over the last 12 months, and others that commenced in 2017 have continued to bear fruit and be further refined. These include a significant increase in the focus on STEM and innovation across both junior and senior schools, use of the principles of positive psychology to underpin staff and student wellbeing, introduction of new service learning opportunities, and development of a Community Charter to foster strong working relationships between staff, parents and students. We are very grateful to Dr Townsend for her unrelenting commitment to St Catherine’s.

I would like to particularly thank Mrs Kim Millar, Mr Mark Woodley and Dr Jennifer Matthei who resigned from the Council during the course of 2018. I am very grateful for the valuable contribution each has made to the good governance of the school.

At the end of the year we also farewelled Ms Sarah Guy. As head of junior school and deputy head of the school Ms Guy has made an invaluable contribution to St Catherine’s over the last eight years. Under her leadership I have always found the junior school to be a place where girls are challenged to learn and grow academically and as young women. It is a place of warmth, care, nurture and fun. Ms Guy has been a great blessing to the whole school community and we wish her all the best for the future.
