Dear St. Anne Families & Friends,

St. Anne Catholic School has, for more than 90 years, proudly educated children in the Basilian spirit of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge, making St. Anne a leader among Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. This year, St. Anne accomplished another seven years as an accredited Catholic school by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops. The accreditation process ensures academic excellence and quality faith formation. During a three day visit, an accreditation team evaluated the School with reference to Catholic identity, operational vitality, curriculum, instruction and assessments, support services, and plant and facilities. We can confidently proclaim that the Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge of St. Anne academic programs, celebrated by faculty and staff, and witnessed in every student, contributes to an inseparable philosophy that has the power to ignite learning and sustain faith.

St. Anne is more than just a school, it is a deeply invested community of faith and warmth that is vital to our growth and development as children of God. Without a doubt, St. Anne Catholic School prepares the mind. But by God, it prepares the soul as well.

Join me in celebrating the accomplishments of 2021-2022 academic school year:

• National Social Studies League

• Camp Kappe hosted the 5th grade during 4 days of exploration and learning in the great outdoors.

• The National Junior Honor Society inducted 11 new members.

• FIESTA! introduced a digital platform for raffle ticket sales and the entire community FIESTA Forward(ed)!

• Grandparents Day welcomed hundreds of beloved grandparents back to campus.

• The Quiz Bowl teams beat the buzzers against Houston’s top teams.

• International Day brought the world to the St. Anne campus.

• 45 second graders honored the sacrament of First Communion.

• Field Day displayed the champion’s heart of every student.

• Field trips carried students beyond the St. Anne gateway on learning adventures.

• Graduation culminated the legacy of a St. Anne education for our 8th grade students, who were accepted to Houston’s premier Catholic, independent, and public high schools.

• The end of the school year honored the May Crowning of our Blessed Mother underneath glorious blue skies.

The St. Anne experience provides opportunities to discover, collaborate, experiment, and prayerfully reflect, at every grade level. With a continued emphasis on building Catholic character through authentic experiences, teachers help students enrich their faith and promote GDK Everyday. The Church is so blessed to have Catholic schools shaping the lives, education, and faith of so many young people. Your contributions to the School’s mission are integral to sustaining the St. Anne legacy.

In His Name, Dawn Martinez Principal, St. Anne Catholic School

Inherent in a St. Anne education is the Basilian cornerstone of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. The Annual Fund embodies this sacred cornerstone and helps realize the vision of a Catholic education. Supporting the St. Anne Annual Fund is the most important gift St. Anne Catholic School asks of the community. Gifts from parents, alumni, grandparents, faculty and staff ensure the Basilian legacy of learning for which St. Anne is known. Every St. Anne student relies on the St. Anne Annual Fund; every gift makes a difference.

GDK Day, a giving day dedicated to the Annual Fund, celebrated the campaign kick-off with record gifts and participation. Robust participation from the faculty and staff, as well as PTO and School Boards, inspired confidence, which inspired the entire community-parents, grandparents, parishioners, and supporters - to say YES! To the Annual Fund.

The St. Anne Catholic School Annual Fund ensures that St. Anne continues to be a leader of Catholic education in the Archdiocese. Annual Fund gifts provide the flexibility to meet the School’s most pressing needs and affect the intellectual, social, and personal development of our students, teachers, and staff every day. In addition, dollars raised impact the school’s general operating budget and directly contribute to the difference between tuition and the actual cost of educating a child at St. Anne. Annual Fund gifts make possible:

St. Anne celebrated an epic return of FIESTA! This year’s re-imagined theme of FIESTA Forward suited the St. Anne community by raising fellowship and funds from student raffle sales that support a St. Anne Catholic School experience. When St. Anne students sell raffle tickets, they serve as active fundraisers on behalf of the school. As a reward for an exciting raffle selling season, FIESTA! Fest sponsors and community underwriters allowed for FIESTA! Fest carnival games, rides, and inflatables to be free for St. Anne families to enjoy.

FIESTA! Fundraising supplements the tuition gap, the actual cost to educate a child vs. the tuition the school collects. In addition, a portion of the proceeds benefit the Parish religious education program.

St. Anne Catholic School extends a big THANK YOU to all 2022 FIESTA sponsors and student raffle sellers. Without your support, FIESTA would not be possible!

Two years ago, during the height of Covid, we asked ourselves: “How can we make this work?” This year, we said: “Let’s make things happen.”

Father Alvin Sinasac, CSB died peacefully on February 17, 2022. He was 70 years old and had been a member of the Congregation of Priests of St. Basil (Basilian Fathers) for 46 years and a priest for 41 years.

Father Sinasac was born in Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada, the son of Ellwood Sinasac and Ilene Meloche. After graduating from Amherst High School, he earned a certificate in Architectural drafting and was employed as a draftsman before receiving a B.A. degree from the University of Windsor in 1974. He entered the Basilian Novitiate that same year and took his first vows in 1975. He earned a M.Div. during his theological studies at University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto and was ordained a priest in 1979.

After ordination, Father Sinasac served as a high school chaplain. He lived in Mexico City, where he was Master of Scholastics and Director of Formation. He was then assigned to Houston in 1990 and served Casa San Basilio, where he was the Rector for many years.

In 2010, he was appointed to the St. Anne Catholic Community as Associate Pastor, followed by Pastor. In 2021, Fr. Al retired to live with his Basilian brothers at Dillon House in Houston. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and the effects of a stroke.

Father Sinasac was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald. He is survived by

Father Alvin A. Sinasac, CSB 1951-2022

his other six siblings: Lynwood (Edith), Marilyn (Bob), Gary (Colleen), Nancy (Tom), Calvin (Linda), Audrey (Randy) along with many loving nieces and nephews. He is mourned by his Basilian brothers, the faculty and staff at St. Anne Catholic School, and the many people he knew and served, especially at St. Anne parish.

During his time as St. Anne Catholic School Pastor, Fr. Al spearheaded the physical growth of the campus with the construction of the Budinger Building. His commitment to St. Anne helped ensure that our school remains among the best in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

“As disciples of Jesus, we know where to turn. We find our strength in God. We trust in him and rely on his loving providence. So, as we begin our day, let us first take a few moments to look to the Lord for strength, and then let us courageously reach out to share his strength with those around us.”
WE THANK GOD FOR SENDING US THIS GOOD SHEPHERD.
