VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT VOLUNTEERS MAKE OUR WORLD GO ROUND William Byrd is a fan of St. Philip’s! As the parent of two alumni, he has experienced St. Philip’s mission first-hand. For the last few months, Byrd has volunteered in the role of Project Manager to oversee the installation of Interactive Flat panels in our classrooms, our transition to a new third party technology vendor, and the installation and configuration of a new wireless network and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).

…truly a privilege as well as a duty…

“I consider my involvement here during the last two months truly a privilege as well as a duty,” he says. “I grew up in a neighborhood in the northeast not unlike the St. Philip’s area, so I am aware of the difficulties and needs in those communities and in the organizations that serve them.”

For three years, Susan McCombs, a loyal donor and wife of St. Philip’s trustee, David McCombs, has faithfully volunteered two hours every Wednesday at St. Philip’s School and Community Center. The Philanthropy Office has come to consider Susan one of their own and a valuable member of #TeamPhilanthropy. From making donor thank you calls, prepping weekly and major mailings, to assisting with event logistics, McCombs has done it all. And always, always with a smile and sweet spirit!

Lavern Watson has become a familiar face at St. Philip’s. The grandmother of one of our shining alumni, Ms. Watson, regularly volunteers in the School and the Community Center. She assists in the Food Pantry every week and often lends a hand for projects in the School, including Thank-A-Thons and office organization.
