A Word From the Perot Family Headmaster

HIStory

As we move towards closing out St. Philip’s 70th Anniversary year, it is appropriate to examine our journey from a historical perspective. A glance back reveals that HIStory has been with us.

J. Presper Eckert, the inventor of the first electronic numerical integrator and computer, could not have imagined the technological advancements we are seeing today. HIStory has been with us. The state of world relations today could not have been foreseen in 1946, when the United Nations formed. America had no clue of the state

the country would be in 70 years after a woman named Hillary and a man named Donald were born.

When a small, faithful group of Black Episcopalians approached the Diocese of Dallas with the desire to establish a ministry in South Dallas, HIStory was with them. They had no way of knowing what a mighty impact St. Philip’s would have. In those days of racial strife, the notion of Blacks and Whites setting aside their differences and embracing their oneness to impact lives through spirituality, scholarship, service, and sacrifice, demonstrates that HIStory was truly on their side.

As we celebrate seven decades of ministry and press on to advance God’s “works” through St. Philip’s, let us acknowledge that we are here because of HIStory. Not only has He been with us, He desires for HIStory to live within us. HIStory of sacrifice, love and redemption will allow St. Philip’s, as well as each of us individually, to be positioned to say “the best is yet to come.”

As you enjoy this magazine, give reflection to the grace and mercy that has brought us thus far and the grace and mercy that awaits those who allow HIStory to become theirs.

Blessings, Not only has He been with us, He desires for HIStory to live within us. HIStory of sacrifice, love and redemption will allow St. Philip’s, as well as each of us individually, to be positioned to say “the best is yet to come.”
