THE MUSEUM AT FIT’S ANNUAL LUNCHEON

Olivier Rousteing, creative director of Balmain, will be honored with the 2025 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion at The Museum at FIT’s annual luncheon on September 3 at Lincoln Center. We had a chance to chat with cochairs Jane DeFlorio and Stephanie Loeffler. How does the luncheon help support the next generation of fashion leaders?

Jane DeFlorio: The Museum at FIT is a kind of creative lab. Design students get to show their work in the museum, and students studying to become curators and conservators learn how to mount exhibitions. And because the museum is free, the reach goes way beyond FIT’s walls. Supporting it means supporting the future of fashion—full stop. Stephanie Loeffler: Olivier Rousteing is such a role model to aspiring designers. He will be speaking to our students at FIT after the luncheon. The funds raised go to exhibitions and public programs, as well as classes at the Museum that benefit thousands of FIT students.

CHAT WITH CHEAT CODES

The iconic DJ and production group created by Matthew Russell, Trevor Dahl, and Kevin Ford chatted with Spotlight after their recent knockout performance at Surf Lodge in Montauk.

What’s your favorite part about DJing in the Hamptons?

Matthew Russell: I love DJing near the water.

Trevor Dahl: I would say tonight we got to play during the sunset, which is nice. We usually play later, like midnight, 1 a.m. So the fact that we get to play when the sun was setting on the water, the weather was beautiful.

Kevin Ford: My favorite thing is probably eating a lobster roll right before we get on stage.

GIVING SEASON THE PROSTATE CANCER FOUNDATION GALA

The Prostate Cancer Foundation returns to the Hamptons with its highly anticipated annual gala on August 23rd. CATCHING UP WITH GREG BAKER AND LISA BASS

Real Estate Professionals, Baker-Bass Team Saunders & Associates

How would you describe the evolution of Hamptons real estate from the time you first started to now?

Greg Baker: The Hamptons have evolved over the years, but its core essence remains unchanged. Activity has grown, and even the oncesleepy villages now hum with year-round energy. As more people make the Hamptons their year-round home, the demand for infrastructure improvements has grown. What values define the Baker/Bass Team’s approach to client service?

Lisa Bass: We’re all in—every step of the way. We’ve sold estates, bought and sold waterfront properties, and designed and built multiple homes from the ground up. From concept to closing, we guide our clients through every stage of the real estate journey.

How do you expect the Hamptons market to shift post-Labor Day?

Baker: As the summer crowds begin to thin, more people are choosing to extend their stay into the fall, and even through the holiday season. This time of year, the East End reveals a quieter, more contemplative beauty—crisp air, peaceful beaches, and farmstands overflowing with late-season harvests well into September and October. It’s an ideal moment to enjoy the area’s charm while thoughtfully planning your next step in the real estate journey.

AN ARTY EAST END ESCAPE

Long before the Hamptons became a haven for creatives and collectors, the Pollock-Krasner House served as a place of solace and inspiration for two renowned artists, tucked away in a farmhouse in The Springs. BY

The Pollock-Krasner House, a National Historic Landmark on the tip of East Hampton, was once home to two of the most influential figures in modern art, Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. In November 1945, tired of city life and seeking new inspiration, the couple moved east to The Springs. Becoming one of the first major artists of his time to find refuge and renewal outside the city, Pollock wrote, “The country is wonderful.” Today, the museum is preserved in time, holding memories and stories from their life in the 1950s and beyond.

The property contains a 19th-century farmhouse and a barn that served as a studio for Pollock’s work and later for Krasner’s paintings after his death in 1956. Visitors touring the beautiful property and spaces today can still see the original paint splatters and snippets

of their art on the walls and floors. The paint that went beyond the canvas is on full display in their studio, preserved by plexiglass. Built in 1879, the house itself remains filled with personal items that offer insight into their daily lives, highlighting their library and jazz record collection, as well as the original furniture from the time of Krasner’s death in 1984. The site continues to thrive as an academic and cultural destination, hosting seasonal exhibitions by contemporary artists from May through October, in addition to archives, lectures, and programs dedicated to modern art history and conservation. TENNIS WHITES, STYLE HIGHLIGHTS

Hitting the courts, like hitting the runway, is all about attitude. How you wear what you wear can be a game changer. We’ve got some tips that will make you look like a winner, even if you’re just sitting in the

stands.

The game of tennis holds a special place in my heart, both on and off the court. I’ve had a racquet in my hand since I was 3 years old. My father was a huge inspiration in my tennis life; he was semi-professional, and also taught tennis when he was 16 years old at the Coral Beach and Tennis Club in Bermuda. I love to play, but there’s something so electric about sitting in the stands watching awe-inspiring athletes compete. The US Open is such an intense and exciting event. Every year, it serves as a Grand Slam social party of the summer.

Tennis has been around forever. It’s such a classic, timeless sport, and it has a grip on our culture strong enough to create and hold its own fashion. When you step on the court, you naturally want to wear appropriate attire. And while there are no prizes for fashion at the US Open, you also want to look the part as a spectator.

sleeved shirt, Oxford shoes, sneakers, or pumps with a tiny heel, and a matching handbag to complete the outfit. Depending on how hot it is, I may wear wedges or espadrilles, and depending on where I’m sitting, a hat is useful. I keep a cotton D. Porthault handkerchief handy to dab at my face if it’s warm.

I play tennis at my club, where I wear all white. It’s the usual fare, with the club’s tennis hat, athletic tops, and tennis skirts, and of course there are the tennis shoes—or as New Yorkers call them, sneakers. Sunscreen is essential! I love that athletic gear has SPF protection built into it, so I usually wear long sleeves, in breathable fabric, and stay well covered. If I want to look chic, I’ll tie a colorful scarf around my neck, and I can’t leave home without my big sunglasses.

To honor the elegance of the sport, I think it’s important to dress smart. I aim for classic and chic, and my favorite tennis fashion is Thom Browne. His signature pleated skirt is a perfect fit, with a loose flowy short-

None of my outfits are complete without a necklace or bracelet from my collection, or whatever else helps to nervously fidget with during the nail-biting matches. But first and foremost is having fun, and my friends and I make a day of it! First, we have a nice lunch before the finals, then a day of intense moments that wind into the night. It’s so entertaining to look around, greet acquaintances, feel the excitement of everyone gathered, see the families of the players, see who’s playing, who’s coaching, and who’s watching.

The beginning of September is an exciting time in the city, with people returning from their summer vacations, Fashion Week soon after Labor Day, and the US Open is the kickoff party. The buzz, excitement, and energy are undeniable. Wearing your “tennis best” feels like a fresh start—to a new season and new beginnings. T

THE HEART GAME

Love means nothing in tennis, but everything in life. Your relationships may last a week, a year, or a lifetime, but it’s the human connection that makes for the perfect match.

I’ve always believed that love—whether it’s romance, friendship, or a fleeting moment of connection—is what keeps life interesting. Sometimes you meet someone and feel an instant spark. You want to know them, and you hope they feel the same. That’s love. It’s not always grand or dramatic—sometimes it’s quiet, but real.

I have this theory: My heart is a hotel. A “Heart Hotel.” Some people stay in the penthouse. Others pass through a cozy studio. But every love leaves something behind— something that has shaped me, made me laugh, or reminded me I’m still capable of being surprised.

Love also shows up in small gestures: a call just to check in; a handwritten note; or someone remembering how you take your coffee. These quiet moments of kindness are love in motion—reminders that we are seen, appreciated, and never alone in the world.

A friend once told me you can have someone in your life for five days or five decades—it depends on the connection. And the best kind of friend? The one you don’t see for years, but when you speak again, it feels like no time has passed. That kind of ease is rare—and worth holding on to.

What I’ve learned is that love changes. It softens, deepens, and shifts with time. Some rooms in my Heart Hotel are quieter now, but they’re never empty. When love is real, it leaves the light on.

And remember, while love may mean nothing in a tennis game, it means everything in life and in friendship. T

HOW TO MEET YOUR TENNIS MATCH

As the old song goes,

“It’s all in the game.” Whether you’re playing tennis or the field, there’s only one way to find the love of your life. You gotta be in it to win it. Here are five ways to do just that!

Tennis is such a vibe. I’ve been playing the game since I was 3 years old at the Bridgehampton Tennis & Surf Club! As a tennis lover, former high school varsity tennis captain, and dating coach, you can trust me when it comes to mixing tennis and relationships. Honorable mention to the amazing movies that mix the sport and dating: Challengers, Wimbledon, and Match Point. These are must-see films if you haven’t yet. They might even make for a great date night triple feature! Here are some ways you can meet your match this summer and beyond.

1. Sporting events, of course. Chances are, if someone loves one sport, they love most. The best place to meet men in particular is and has always been a sporting event. And speaking of tennis, the US Open is happening this month! Be sure to get a ticket and make your way over to meet your match asap.

2. Dating apps. These get a bad rap, but the reality is that the apps are amazing at showcasing what people are interested in. If you’re looking for someone interested in tennis, chances are it’ll say that they’re looking for a partner or looking to play a game on their dating profile. Some of the best married couples I know have found each other on dating apps.

3. Workout classes. If you haven’t gone to a Barry’s class in the Hamptons, you’re not living! There are endless hotties. You will find more at The Barn in Bridgehampton, too! If you’re looking for someone who is active and prioritizes fitness, a workout class is the place to be. Arrive a little early for some pre-class mingling before the sweating sets in.

4. Join a club. This doesn’t have to be a tennis club, by the way! It could be a club of any kind. And now, more than ever before, there are hundreds of these clubs to choose from. If you join a tennis club, they may match you up with a partner in order to play, therefore doing all the work for you. Another great idea is asking your friends if they have anyone who could give you a lesson. It doesn’t have to be a professional, just someone who is good. My friends have met that way!

5. Bars. Local watering holes are not dead; in fact, they’re very much alive. Especially during the US Open when people gather during this perfect weather season to watch tennis at indoor and outdoor bars around the Hamptons. There are endless places to choose from. I’d advise you to stick to one in your local neighborhood. That way you may meet a potential new match, and also someone who’s nearby. That’s what we call a win-win!

We all know a tennis match is a bonus, but a real match is what we’re looking for. If you’re trying to find your person, start listening to my podcast and you’ll learn dating rules, tips, and so much more. We also do events year-round in New York City and Miami, so stay tuned. For more dating and relationship how-to’s, follow @wemetatacme on Instagram or tune in to “We Met at Acme” wherever you listen to podcasts. And remember, always play to win! T

WITH A RACKET IN ONE HAND (SOMETIMES) AND A PHONE IN THE OTHER, MORGAN RIDDLE IS REDEFINING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A COURTSIDE ICON. SHE FUSES FASHION, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND TENNIS CULTURE TO BRING A VIBRANT NEW LENS TO THE SPORT—SERVING STYLE AND INFLUENCE TO A NEW GENERATION WHILE CHEERING ON HER MAN, TAYLOR FRITZ.

You’re often credited with helping make tennis “cool” again for Gen Z. Was that your intention, or did it evolve organically? It was never necessarily calculated. I just started sharing bits of my life on tour after I realized how unexplored the full culture around tennis was—the fashion, the cities, the bizarre lifestyle. I think people didn’t even know they were craving a new lens on the sport, and I happened to be in the right position and have the right personal interest to offer it. Where did you grow up, and what did you want to be? I grew up in Minnesota, and I’m extremely grateful that I did! I thought that I would live on a farm like my family; I spent a lot of time growing up at my grandpa’s dairy farm. I had a brief phase of wanting to be a nurse before learning that I have a severe phobia of blood. When I was around 15 years old, I watched a show that made me want to work in magazines and I hung on to that one for a while.

You’ve turned tennis fashion into its own movement. How do you curate your tournament looks, and what designers are you loving?

I treat the bigger tournaments, like the Masters and Grand Slams, sort of like a Fashion Week with a specific dress code. My stylist, Emily Essen, and I think about the vibe of the city and also prioritize designers that are from that particular city or country. At the moment, I’m loving Ferragamo, Alaïa, Vivienne Westwood, and Alexander McQueen. I’m into hyper-feminine pieces and florals right now.

How do you balance staying true to your personal style while also respecting the traditions of a sport as historic as tennis?

That tension is the fun part! We love pulling a vintage classic silhouette in an unexpected fabric, or a dramatic look that still nods to elegance. I don’t want to feel like I’m in costume, but I do like to push the line.

We hear you don’t love playing the sport yourself! Do you think that’ll ever change?

I actually enjoy it now the more lessons I take, but starting out was frustrating when I couldn’t even get the ball over the net. But I’ve gotten much better, and I actually have a pretty good backhand.

In school I did competitive speech and debate and was in musical theater, so athleticism was never really my forte.

What are your favorite parts of being with Taylor [Fritz]?

The friendship, the fun, the weird little routines we’ve built. It’s a stressful lifestyle, but having a best friend to navigate it with makes it a lot more grounding.

Go-to date night?

Uber Eats and watching anime in bed. We are homebodies. What’s something about life on the ATP tour that fans would be surprised to learn?

It can be painfully boring. Waiting in hotel rooms, waiting for rain delays, waiting for matches to start. There is excessive downtime.

Love match: Fritz and Riddle

What’s been your favorite tournament city and why?

We love Tokyo. The food, shopping, people, and tournament are all amazing. As I mentioned, we love anime, so we geek out and find spots that have shown up in our favorite shows. Once, we ventured out just to find a random KFC that was in a Jujutsu Kaisen episode. I also love the time we spend in New York City, Melbourne, and Sydney. You’ve made tennis more accessible to a whole new audience on TikTok and Instagram. What’s been the most surprising reaction from the tennis community or fans? The response has been overwhelmingly kind. Of course I’m not everyone’s cup of tea and I never expected to be, but even if someone isn’t my target audience, they can appreciate what I’m trying to do. I’ve had a lot of girls come up to me and say they got introduced to tennis through my YouTube or GRWM videos, but are now mega fans who watch every tournament and have favorites they root for. It’s cool to be a gateway!

What does a typical day at the US Open look like for you? I’m particular about my mornings;

I won’t schedule anything before 9 a.m. I need no social media, a long outdoor walk, and a workout before I can be the best version of myself. After that is usually just chaos—bouncing between filming content, matches, press, and events. I went to college in New York, so I also try to see friends a lot when I’m there, and they’ll join me on-site.

How do you support Taylor during his intense match days?

Mostly by trying to keep the mood light and calm. When he’s locked in during a tournament, he’s quiet on match days and doesn’t say much, so I mostly just give him space. I’m usually busy filming content anyway, so it works out.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you? I can be introverted. My job looks social and I’m constantly out and about, but I’m happiest watching a horror movie alone at home or walking around a city by myself. And about Taylor?

He loves The 1975, the British pop rock band.

What’s always in your courtside bag, besides your phone?

Sony ZV-E10 camera, sunglasses, Fenty Pro Filt’r Matte foundation, Kindle, Summer Fridays lip balm, handheld fan, hydrocolloid bandages for blisters. I lose my wallet, so I don’t bring it anywhere with me anymore and rely on Apple Pay for everything.

What’s on the horizon for you?

I’m working on expanding what I do beyond my social accounts— working on camera, hosting, writing more, and building something of my own. But really, my No. 1 dream is to get a chihuahua soon. T

HITTING Still

HE HIT TENNIS BALLS AGAINST A WALL AS A TODDLER. NOW, HE’S SHAPING WHERE THE SPORT IS HEADING. FORMER PLAYER AND CURRENT BROADCASTER PATRICK McENROE OPENS UP ABOUT CAREER PIVOTS, AMERICAN TENNIS, BROTHERLY BONDS, AND THE RHYTHM OF LIFE, IN AND OUT OF THE SPOTLIGHT.

Patrick (left) with brother John McEnroe
McEnroe is the former captain of the U.S. Davis Cup team.

You’ve had such a multifaceted career— as a player, broadcaster, and now Hall of Fame president. What continues to fuel your passion for tennis?

I absolutely love tennis. I’ve loved it since I started hitting balls against the wall at the Douglaston Club at 3 years old. I played tennis before I could ride a two-wheeler. In fact, I used to ride my tricycle to the club and back. My brothers and I loved sports. We played them all, including competitive soccer, basketball, and baseball. But tennis was the top for me. I enjoyed the singular nature of it…that it was all on you, and I still love it to this day. I don’t play quite as much, but I still often go hit against the wall—for me, it’s also therapeutic. How has your approach to commentary evolved now that you're not only analyzing players, but also shaping the future of the sport through the Hall of Fame? Commentary is an absolute passion for me. I’m so lucky to have been employed for so many years; it jazzes me. Most people who play tennis want to hear something that can help their game. So I always try to bring that to the match I’m commentating on. I also just have fun talking about tennis. And I attempt to bring that every day; it’s just a game. Do you see reflections of your younger self in today’s rising tennis stars?

As far as today’s players, I wish I could have played like them! I definitely would have trained smarter not harder, because I trained hard. But I didn’t know what I was doing (for example, I ran long distances to get in shape—wrong! And I lifted heavy weights— wrong!). I look back and realize how uneducated I was about proper training for a sport like tennis. I had pretty good natural tennis skills (hand-eye coordination), but I was not super quick (great players now have to have both at a super high level).

What do you enjoy most about the US Open, and what does a typical day at the Open look like for you?

The US Open is my home tournament and certainly pretty nuts! I absolutely love the crowds, New York energy, and night matches. My days are long, though sometimes now I’ll get to come in midday as I’m usually working on our ESPN prime-time coverage until late at night. The good news is I’m usually done so late that it only takes me about 19 minutes to drive home!

Where do you enjoy playing tennis in the Hamptons?

I play at SPORTIME Amagansett (our East home of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy), which I oversee. It’s an amazing tennis club.

Plus! MEET MELISSA ERRICO

Broadway Star and Patrick’s Wife

You first met your husband as children. Did you ever imagine that your paths would one day lead to marriage, careers in the spotlight, and three children together?

I was 6 years old when I met Patrick, maybe younger. I definitely didn’t imagine marrying him and having twins, a 2-year-old, and a Broadway career with a tennis stud husband, no. I was more interested in a Spanish boy in our elementary school to be honest, who could do cool flips off the diving

board at the local club! I loved Patrick my whole life, always trusted him, and loved his full head of blond hair. I remembered his cat, Charlotte, and the way he laughed with my older brother, who was his best friend. I remember he could kick a soccer ball pretty far. You’re each celebrated in your own right—you on-stage and Patrick on the court. What’s it been like navigating such public-facing careers under one roof?

I think it’s been bonding because we have a lot in common. We have the common enemy of perfection; by that I mean, we strive to do the best we can, fail, pickup, win a few, feel good (or bad) and then strive again. We also share in each other’s successes. I have the best coach in the world—him. We understand each other. I respect his talents and more keep emerging.

How do you balance the intensity of competition with the responsibility of preserving tennis’s legacy?

I’m proud to be associated with the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Integrity is part of the fabric of tennis—period. It always has been, and always will be. I take that seriously and personally. How is your brother John doing? Do you still play together?

John is doing incredible. He’s 66 now and going as strong as ever. We have so much fun working together at the academy and on TV. It’s been so cool for me to work with him onair since he came over to ESPN, too. And he still often comes to our academy in NYC and plays with the kids—and is as feisty as ever! T

You both travel often for work. How do you prioritize connection and family while living such fast-paced, highprofile lives?

When the kids were little, I either stayed put or brought them everywhere—from Atlanta, while I starred in Bull Durham, to Wimbledon and the Australian Open. Family always came first. Over the past decade, I’ve shaped a career that gives me creative freedom and flexibility—developing thematic cabaret shows, recording albums, touring internationally, and writing a series for The New York Times. I’ve learned to plan years ahead, booking concerts around major tennis tournaments and our family calendar. Now that the kids are older, they roll with it—and even laugh when I forget where Daddy is!

FASHION Forward

They’ve dressed supermodels and Dancing With the Stars contestants, hosted an event at Coachella, and are Amazon Live’s latest hosts, but styling duo Danielle O’Connell and Alix Gropper are just getting started as they curate clients’ images and collaborate with brands worldwide.

our first Coachella event with LOFT, styled Kensington Tillo for our first Cannes red carpet, partnered with Armani, and debuted as Amazon Live hosts. What trend are you secretly tired of seeing, and what do you wish would replace it?

O’Connell: We know the fashion cycle is inevitable, but the skinny jean comeback? We’re not emotionally ready. We’re all for a resurgence—when it feels fresh—but right now, we’re still living for relaxed tailoring, wideleg silhouettes, and vintageinspired cuts that let both the outfit and the person breathe. What’s your “holy grail” item that elevates any look?

Gropper: This summer, it’s the ballet flat. We’re big fans of the “unexpected shoe theory”— pairing a shoe that feels slightly offbeat with a look. Ballet flats are perfect with baggy jeans and a tee, a tailored set, or even a mini dress. We’re obsessed with the jelly ballet flats for the beach; it’s chicer than a flip-flop. Is there a particular Hamptons style “myth” you wish more people would let go of?

FRESH FACES

The latest personalities and influencers that Danielle and Alix have added to their styling roster.

Ladies, how has your styling business evolved?

Danielle O’Connell: Since launching Danielle & Alix, we’ve expanded into everything from celebrity styling and campaign consulting to dressing talent for press tours, music videos, and brand ambassadorships. We’ve grown from pulling looks to curating an image. Our styling process is strategic; it’s not just about what someone wears, but how it positions them long-term. What have been some of your career highlights this year?

Alix Gropper: We kicked it off by hosting our first-ever brand trip to Aspen in partnership with Casa Del Sol and Vivrelle. From there, it was the Super Bowl of looks with our sporty superstar Kay Adams, followed by a full awards season run with Dancing With the Stars champion Jenna Johnson. We hosted

Gropper: That you have to wear pastels and florals to blend in. There’s power in contrast—white linen with black sunnies, breezy trousers with a vintage tee and pearls. Understated is just as impactful. You don’t have to dress like a postcard, especially if your personal style leans more minimal, timeless, or edgy. What’s coming up for you?

O’Connell: We’re expanding— taking on bigger campaigns and brand partners, styling more talent in music and film, and getting comfy in front of the camera. We’re also committed to mentoring the next generation of stylists. We didn’t have a road map when we started, and we’re passionate about creating one. Long-term, we’d love to creativedirect for a fashion house or launch a capsule that captures our DNA. But for now we’re riding the momentum, so stay tuned! T

The SERVE & STYLE Life

Tennis? Check. Fashion? Check. Content creation? Check. Madison Appel is a Hamptons figure who’s doing it all—with a killer backhand and even better taste.

Madison Appel’s story begins with a tennis racquet and a Hamptons summer. “I was 4 years old when I picked up a racquet for the first time—right here in the Hamptons,” she recalls. It was a family affair—both her parents and older brother played, making the sport more than a pastime. It was a way of life.

Born in Manhattan but raised on Long Island, Appel’s Hamptons roots run deep. Her mother grew up in Southampton, and summers Out East were a given. “My grandparents and great-grandparents were always here,” she says. “My dad built our first house in the Hamptons when I was 2, so I’ve been a Hamptons girl my whole life.”

That early foundation would lead Appel to a standout collegiate tennis career at Indiana University. “Playing for a team shaped me in so many ways,” she says. “It was the first time I was competing for something bigger than myself, and it gave me a motivation I hadn’t had before.” On and off the court, she made an impact—even helping style her teammates’ tennis outfits, foreshadowing a future where fashion would play a leading role.

Today, Appel is no longer chasing trophies but is still immersed in the game. She spends her summers teaching tennis to Hamptonites, but the court is only part of her professional landscape. A full-time content creator, Appel has found the perfect balance between her love for tennis and her passion for fashion.

“Teaching while building a digital brand was the best thing I ever did,” she says. “Tennis and lifestyle content is the most authentic part of me. And tennis fashion has really blossomed—what we wear on the court is just as relevant walking around town. ‘Tenniscore’ is a real lifestyle now.” Her own style is a mix of “athleisure tomboy and chic.” Appel jokes, “I’m 100 percent a sneaker girl—but you won’t catch me out to dinner without a pair of heels.”

And while she may appear every bit the glam tennis influencer online, there’s more to Appel than meets the eye. “I don’t think people realize I have four brothers,” she laughs. “Once people meet me, it makes sense. They think I’m just a girly girl who plays tennis, but growing up with all boys definitely gave me that tomboy edge.” T

Meet the Hamptons’ Rising Music Duo

While global superstars like Kygo light up the Hamptons music scene at Palm Tree Festival, and Grammywinning legends Chad Smith and Andrew Watt deliver their annual powerhouse performance at The Stephen Talkhouse, it’s the homegrown talent here that truly gives our summers soul. Jake Loeb and Henry Cornell are young musicians we’ve been following since their early high school days. We recently caught up with the team while they were setting the mood at the Blue&Cream x L’Agence fashion event in Sag Harbor.

How did you both get your start as teenagers?

Jake Loeb: I grew up in New York City going to live music events from a young age. I also joined bands and did performances as a child. These all enabled me to see my full potential.

What’s your favorite genre of music?

Loeb: I grew up listening to classic rock tracks my father would play during car rides— bands like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Guns N’ Roses. As I aged and went in and out of different band programs, I got into grunge and other groups from the ’90s, which is my favorite decade for music.

Biggest musical inspiration?

Loeb: John Mayer. From his lyrics to his vocals to his guitar-playing, he encapsulates everything I look for in a musician.

How do you balance being in school and your passion for music?

Loeb: I think we’re both grateful to be studying music in school, so balancing school and music is easy. What advice do you have for young artists on the scene?

Henry Cornell: Whether it’s in songwriting, where you hold yourself back creatively, or in

performing, where self-doubt creeps in, or on social media, where sharing your music can feel cringey—you just need to maintain self-awareness and be conscious about not getting in your own way.

What’s on slate for the rest of the summer?

Cornell: We’re looking forward to our gigs at The Stephen Talkhouse and Surf Lodge. We’re incredibly grateful to be able to play at such amazing venues with each other. We want to focus on creating as much art as we can, and going more in depth with our own personal style and sound. T

DAOU UNCORKED

What’s the story behind the DAOU vineyard’s founding, and how has the vision evolved over the years?

DAOU was founded in 2007 by brothers Georges and Daniel Daou, who dreamed of creating a winery that would elevate Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon on the global stage. After searching the world for terroirs that could rival Bordeaux’s firstgrowth estates, they discovered what would become known as DAOU Mountain in the Adelaida District in Paso Robles, California. The rest is history, and the vision has remained the same since day one—create extraordinary Paso Robles wines and provide unparalleled hospitality.

DAOU is known not only for its awardwinning wines but also for its immersive guest experience. What can visitors expect when they come to the estate?

DAOU is not your typical tasting room, and we hope you feel that as soon as you step on the Mountain. This is an experience, not a visit. Hospitality is at the forefront of everything we do. Our team has curated a world-class menu to pair with the wine tasting. Every sip and bite must be incredible. Our educators make the entire experience unforgettable and will make

Exceptional wine, unforgettable views, and a legacy rooted in passion—DAOU is more than a name, it’s a lifestyle. Brand ambassador Laura Reynolds shares how heritage, hospitality, and heart have made it the toast of the Hamptons.

you feel like family. We want you to leave yearning to come back.

What is your personal favorite DAOU wine?

My favorite wine is the 2021 Soul of a Lion. It’s a stunning Bordeaux blend that exemplifies the power and elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon coming from the Adalida District of Paso Robles. The 2021 vintage is especially compelling—rich and smooth, with layers of dark fruit, refined tannins, and a beautifully balanced structure. It bridges the bold, expressive character of New World California fruit with the finesse and complexity of Old World winemaking traditions. What sets DAOU apart from other wine companies?

We like to say that DAOU is not a winery, it’s a lifestyle. We make wine for every occasion whether you’re searching for a glass after work or are looking for a milestone bottle. We’re creating worldclass Bordeaux varieties. Some are made with extreme approachability, others are crafted with extreme staying power—the kind of wines that go toe to toe with the

world’s best, and that will age gracefully for decades to come.

The Hamptons is full of tastemakers, creatives, and connoisseurs. How do you see DAOU fitting into this elevated and discerning lifestyle ecosystem?

The Hamptons and DAOU share a common language—elevated taste, effortless luxury, and an appreciation of craftsmanship. We walk hand in hand.

Lastly, how do you see the future of luxury wine evolving, and what role will DAOU play in shaping that narrative?

Luxury wine in the past was defined by rarity and price. We as consumers now seek more. We want a sense of purpose, a memorable story, and stewardship of the land. DAOU will continue to be an innovator in all three. We seek to create world-class wines that far exceed the price point while ensuring quality never wavers. It’s our job as a brand to take care of what we have now so our future generations can enjoy it as we do, while sipping on an incomparable glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. T

Laura Reynolds

Tell us a bit about your tennis journey. How did you get into the sport?

I started to play tennis at the age of 10, in Slovakia, where I am from. I was playing lots of tennis tournaments, mostly in Europe, as I was growing up. Later, I received a scholarship to play college tennis in the U.S. What brought you to the Hamptons?

My first tennis coaching job in Hamptons was at East Hampton Indoor Tennis, then Hampton Racquet, and now I’m teaching at the private beach and tennis club in Water Mill. I’m also offering my services at my private clients’ residences.

How has coaching here shaped your career?

Tennis taught me so much about life in general. It’s one of the best and most complex sports for a child’s development. It’s not only a technical sport that requires discipline, but it is also tactical, as the player needs to learn the structure and strategy of the points through competition and match experience. Competing on the court will test the player’s physical fitness and mental toughness; it challenges them in every aspect of their life while unfolding their true identity.

Tennis Pro Kiki Hajkova

From Slovakia to the South Fork, Kiki Hajkova has turned her love for tennis into a thriving coaching career, bringing discipline, strategy, and soulful balance to the Hamptons courts while making the East End home.

How would you describe your coaching philosophy in a few words?

Alignment with a healthy balance.

What do you love most about coaching in the Hamptons?

Teaching tennis in the Hamptons gave me the opportunity to meet interesting and successful people from all over the world. Also, living in the countryside with beautiful beaches around is my place of sanctuary. The Hamptons

What’s one lesson you hope every student takes away from working with you—on or off the court?

helped me to create a healthy balance between work and pleasure, which I have struggled with in the past.

Is there a sense of camaraderie among local coaches and players, or is it more competitive?

The tennis world is small out here in the Hamptons and most coaches/players know one another. I don’t feel like there’s competition among coaches; if anything it would be more among tennis clubs.

A lot of times after my lessons, my client and I review three things that we worked on during our session, and I want them to verbalize to me in a mindful way what their focus will be moving forward. I find it helpful to get the body and mind in alignment, while rewriting the old habits of the subconscious system and developing new habits that are more effective and efficient to improve their tennis skills or game. Many players have tendencies to overthink or make things more complicated than they are. In my experience, the answers are usually simple. It comes down to establishing a strong foundation. What makes the tennis community Out East unique from other places you’ve taught?

The clientele in the Hamptons is unlike anywhere in the world. I get to meet so many different people who are passionate, driven, and motivated while achieving success on their journey. It’s a nice feeling seeing other people succeeding, and it motivates others like me to pursue my passions. T

SADICK DERMATOLOGY

A Day in the Life of Lydia Fenet

The famed charity auctioneer and founder of the Lydia Fenet Agency is the epitome of an on-the-go woman, so she’s overdue for some R&R Out East. Here are some of her daily highlights! BY EMILY WHITE

Lydia, you’re a world-leading charity auctioneer. How did you get involved in this?

After college, I read a Vanity Fair article about Princess Diana’s dresses being sold at Christie’s. At 19, that intrigued me, so I set out to earn an internship at the auction house. My time at Christie’s provided my first exposure to the world of charity auctions. After three years, I earned my spot as a charity auctioneer in this heavily maledominated space, honing my style to be more charismatic, engaging, and fun than what I saw modeled in the traditional “stuffy” auction style. It’s turned out to be a winning formula. Since departing Christie’s, I’ve raised more than $1 billion for top charities across the globe.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?

To trust my instincts and show it. I wrote my second book, Claim Your Confidence, inspired by this messaging. It can be daunting to face a skeptical crowd, but it’s my job to get their buy-in. After decades on stage, I’ve learned to enter with straight posture, eyes forward, and a smile on my face. Tell us about your agency.

I founded the Lydia Fenet Agency (LFA) as the first training program for charity auctioneers, democratizing access to affordable experts while embracing their nontraditional skill sets to garner more donations. Ahead of our two-year anniversary, LFA auctioneers have already raised more than $210 million for worthy organizations.

You recently hosted a retreat at Shou Sugi Ban House. Why did you choose the Hamptons as the backdrop for this event? Because the area offers an unmatched sense of calm. And Shou Sugi Ban House has great amenities, like a meditation hall, reading library, yoga classes, fire circle, and plant-forward cuisine. Your first book, The Most Powerful Woman in the Room Is You, is being adapted by Hulu and you’ll be serving as executive producer!

Yes, I’m thrilled to see this series come to life, and it’s an honor to be a part of that process. Viewers can expect a show that speaks to the experiences many young women face early in their careers, and how confidence—or lack thereof!—makes an impact.

What are some things you like to do to unwind?

I love to exercise and always pack a pair of running shoes when I go on a trip. Moving my body keeps my mind healthy, and it helps me relax after the energy-intensive work I do in auctioneering and public speaking.

What do you have coming up this fall?

In the busy autumn season, I’ll lead the tentpole auctions for a range of organizations, including the Kering Foundation and Broad Arrow. Alongside the behindthe-scenes development of my upcoming Hulu series, I also have my eye on my next book and Season 3 of my podcast, “Claim Your Confidence.”

IMeet the mischievous collectible key chain turning fashion’s most serious bags into playgrounds of personality.

f you’ve noticed a tiny wild-eyed gremlin dangling from the arms of street-style stars and “It” girls alike this summer, don’t panic. That’s not just any oddball accessory—it’s a Labubu. And yes, it’s supposed to look like that.

Labubu Lands a Front Row Seat

Born from the fever-dream imagination of Hong Kong–born artist Kasing Lung and toy company Pop Mart, Labubu is part mischiefmaker, part fashion mascot. With its pointy ears, jagged teeth, and an expression that says, “I just crawled out of your childhood nightmares,” the impish creature has become one of 2025’s most unexpected and oddly beloved accessories. And we’re not mad about it. Originally a collectible art toy, Labubus have exploded beyond niche figurine culture and straight into the front row. Think: Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermès Birkin bags featuring a Labubu key chain bouncing along as if it were designed to be there. Celebs from veteran superstars Cher and Madonna to current chart toppers Dua Lipa and Blackpink’s Lisa have been spotted styling theirs, with some fans even designing custom outfits and accessories to give their Labubus a streetwear edge.

Part of the appeal? Each Labubu figure feels like a game of chance. There are dozens of editions, including animal-inspired Labubus, Halloween Labubus, and even a Coca-Cola collaboration. Most are sold in blind boxes, meaning you won’t know which crafty creature you’ve scored until you open it.

Collectors are already treating rare Labubus like designer drops you can cuddle. With limited releases selling out in minutes and resellers hiking prices into the hundreds—one version recently sold for a record-breaking $10,500 on eBay—the toy’s cult status holds firm. Whether you’re in it for the street cred or simply because it’s oddly adorable, Labubu isn’t going anywhere.

So next time you see a chic New Yorker with a playful monster on her Hermès, you’ll know it’s not a mistake. It’s fashion. T

“We decided to sell our waterfront home on 3 acres, and following some tepid experiences with others, we spoke to Mala. Her knowledge of the market, her professional approach, her no-nonsense style and her drive and determination drove a successful sale at a price with which we were very pleased. We would highly recommend Mala for any sale at any price in the Hamptons.” – Seller
