Summer, we meet again!

Hello, Spotlight family! We’re so excited to be back with you in our fourth year of Spotlight on the Hamptons. We just returned from a stellar time in Palm Beach. Among our print issues, brand-partner events, and activations, it was a season to remember, and now we have returned and are ready to kick off what is sure to be an incredible summer!

This year will mark the biggest season yet for us at Spotlight. We will have five issues coming to you this summer! Yes, we have added an extra edition to our roster this season, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of our wonderful brand partners, and of course, you, the readers.

To start things off, not only do we have a new issue to celebrate, but we have a Spotlight drink to toast to! Sarah, we’re hearing the Hamptons market is hot now. What do you think is triggering this surge? Our market is steadily rising, while other markets are seeing some give and take. As people pull money out of the stock market, they’re placing it into real estate—here. Over the past few decades, the Hamptons has remained strong with consistent double-digit growth, regardless of what’s happening nationally.

What is trending right now?

Buyers are using family LLCs to purchase homes with an eye toward the future— passing real estate down to the next generation. I have an article coming out next month in my newsletter at SarahMinardiRE.com that lays it all out. This trend makes properties with expansion potential even more valuable.

With the market being unpredictable, why is investing in Hamptons real estate a safe bet?

The stock market is unpredictable right now, but that’s exactly why putting cash into a home here (or increasingly, two) makes sense. Rent the second one. Hold it for your kids. Sell it later. The supply here is limited, and that keeps us insulated from high-risk swings—though, of course, there’s some ebb and flow.

24 HOURS OF OUTFITS IN THE HAMPTONS

In her debut column for Spotlight , the renowned jewelry designer and style maven shares what she’ll be wearing around town this summer.

As the founder of Jennifer Creel Jewelry, I’ve always been keen on fashion and love to express myself creatively. I never stop working, and I’m always traveling, finding inspiration wherever I go. And without a doubt, the Hamptons supplies it.

When temperatures rise in New York City, nothing brings me more pleasure than leaving the concrete jungle for Southampton. Life here is slower, the colors softer, and the beach always welcoming.

My city wardrobe is replaced with a Boho chic aesthetic, where the fashion is flowy, easy, and not flashy, but rather made for walking on the beach, clam bakes with friends, bike rides, and endless dinner parties. Check out my perfect day of outfits in the Hamptons!

MY MORNING LOOK

At the start of the day, I typically throw on my Thom Browne shirt dress and sandals to grab coffee with a friend at Sant Ambroeus, with my dog, Pepper, cozy in my wicker bag. I may spend a Saturday morning strolling through the Hampton Flea Market, where I scour the selection for accessories and knickknacks, or visit the Parrish Art Museum or the Peter Marino Art Foundation.

LUNCHTIME CHIC

Once it hits midday, I’ll throw on one of my favorite sundresses from Carolina Herrera or Johanna Ortiz. I love to sport a red and white color palette or a polka dot dress. I’m typically in low sandals and a straw hat, and I carry a straw bag equipped with sunscreen, water, and a light bolero sweater from Adam Lippes. I often wear my own pendants on what I call a Liberty Cord, which is a floral cotton jewelry cord that’s perfect for the summer.

AFTERNOON STROLL IN STYLE

Later in the day, I’ll pop into AERIN, which is great for both adorning yourself and your home. It has a gorgeous assortment of

bathing suits, dresses, and fabulous home goods, and I can easily pick up a hostess gift for any evening dinner parties. Boutique shopping continues with Veronica Beard, my go-to spot for a great pair of jeans (no small feat), then off to Ralph Lauren and TENET.

EVENING ATTIRE

For dinner or garden parties, I like to wear floral dresses with a lowheeled strap sandal with a Loro Piana wrap. For a more formal event, I’ll opt for a summer evening Oscar de la Renta dress with a wedged heel. I try to be somewhat whimsical in my fashion choices, though I never leave home without a bolero sweater or wrap as the evenings in Southampton can get chilly.

As someone who’s always on the move—between content shoots, events, and curating daily outfit inspo—confidence isn’t something I was born with; it’s something I’ve built. For me, showing up with no apologies is part of the job—and honestly, the secret sauce to feeling my best. Here are a few ways I stay grounded, fabulous, and fully me every single day.

STOP WORRYING

Seriously—stop worrying. Someone once told me that the things we worry about almost never happen, and I’ve found it to be true. Worrying drains your energy and rarely serves you. Let it go and watch your confidence rise.

SMILE

A smile is powerful. When you smile, it actually tricks your brain into thinking you’re happy—and that little shift can change your entire mood. Try it. It works.

BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE

I’ll never forget standing in line in eighth grade next to a shorter girl and slouching down so I could “fit in.” Looking back, I wish I had just stood tall—because the truth is, fitting in isn’t the goal, being proud of who you are is. Embrace your quirks, your strengths, and your own story.

HAIRCARE IN THE HEAT

Humidity and pool days can do a number on hair, so I rely on a UV-protectant leave-in conditioner and a weekly deep-conditioning mask. It’s mating season! But has your dating life grown stale? Summer is the perfect time to refresh your profile on the apps—and your mindset—for putting yourself out there to meet potential romantic partners. Let’s go!

Summer is finally here! As your resident dating and relationship expert, I’m here to give you the tough love that you need to start off this season feeling refreshed and ready to let someone special into your life. See what I did there? I said to let them into your life, not to find them. It’s all about perspective and reframing, and that’s exactly what we’re learning here! When I need a mentality switch, these are a few things that help me.

1. Give your profile some fresh eyes. If you’re feeling like your dating profile is getting stale, now is the perfect time to get some fresh perspective. You can get a datingapp profile consultation (those actually exist… and I do them!) or as a less expensive option, you can ask an honest friend to audit yours. It’s always eye-opening to see how a photo you like might not be an accurate depiction

of you, or an answer you gave may not represent you the way you think it does.

2. Pretend that your life is a dating show.

Is your life a dating show? No. But is it way more fun if you pretend it is?

Yes! Take notes on the dates you’re having. Give names to the different characters in your life. Make it fun and romantic! That way, if someone lets you down, they’re just another player in your real-life dating game.

3. Fake it till you make it. Summer snuck up on us and some of you may not have had time to mentally or physically prepare. If your confidence is not where it needs to be, simply fake it! Small ways to do this are: eye contact, posture, less apologies, and affirming to yourself the person you’d like to be in the mirror.

Bring that energy into your dates, and no one will know the difference!

4. Go to an event where you don’t know anyone.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again: Be a yes person! This is the common denominator of all my friends who have found great partners. If you’re a yes person, then an opportunity can’t miss you. You also allow yourself to find someone out of your normal circle.

5. Use your resources.

Don’t forget that you may already know the people who are going to be the catalyst to how you meet your special person. I’ve set up five couples that are now married, and I barely knew some of them. All I needed to know was that they were single and total catches. Don’t be shy when it comes to being forthcoming about what you’re looking for. You never know who will be willing to make it happen for you!

This is going to be an amazing summer, and I hope these tips help you to go in with the mentality that you’re the prize, and dating can actually be fun if you change your perspective. It all started with one perfect top. What began as a personal quest for that effortlessly flattering, throw-it-on-and-go piece turned into something much bigger: a fashion brand worn by women everywhere—from city streets to Hamptons soirées.

Ramy Brook Sharp didn’t just launch a clothing line; she built a lifestyle. As an adored Hamptons figure and a powerhouse in the fashion world, Ramy reflects with Spotlight on her years of success.

Ramy, this is the 15th anniversary of your brand! How does it feel reaching such a milestone? Wow, has it been 15 years already? Time flies when you love what you do. When I started, I didn’t have a grand plan. I simply couldn’t find the right top to wear with my jeans. Every time I opened my closet, I felt like I had nothing to wear, so creating my own felt like the best solution. I loved shopping for beautiful silk tops but wanted something more affordable so I could own them in more than just one color. Tops came first, then designing dresses felt like a natural next step. Soon after came bottoms, sweaters, outerwear— and now my newest obsession: jewelry. I want our girl to be able to buy something she can wear for every part of her life.

Why did you decide to launch your own line in 2010?

Fifteen years ago, my kids ranged from 5 to 10 years old. They were on a bus at 7:30 a.m. and home by 4:30 p.m., so I had time on my hands. I leaned on friends who were entrepreneurs or in the garment industry, soaking up all the advice I could get. Jennifer Miller, who owns one of my favorite jewelry stores, was incredibly helpful and generous with her time. Stefani Greenfield, then the co-owner of Scoop, patiently walked me through the ins and outs of the retail world. Looking back, I was quite naïve, but thanks to the support of these amazing women, I found the confidence to launch my own line. I knew I was onto something special when even my super fashionable friends loved the clothes.

After 10 months of trunk shows, Bergdorf Goodman picked up the line—and the rest is history. How has the brand evolved over time?

I started the brand with five sexy tops and one very mini dress; now, we’re giving our customers the full Ramy Brook look. Our ready-to-wear has evolved with novelty fabrics, bold prints, eye-catching embellishments, and fresh designs. At its core, the brand is about celebrating life—and we’ll keep creating pieces that make women feel amazing and leave them smiling. What is at the root of your long-standing success?

Staying true to our brand DNA. We always design with our core customer in mind. Trends come and go, but staying true to our vision builds lasting loyalty. Who is the Ramy Brook customer?

I like to say Ramy Brook is for women from 18 to 80. Every collection we design is inspired by celebrations— vacations, weddings, summer parties, date nights, and more. Our woman is always on the go, living her life to the fullest. She feels happy, sexy, and strong, embraces color, travels the world—and above all, she wants to have fun while looking and feeling fabulous! You have locations in both the Hamptons and New York City. What kind of experience do customers get when shopping at your store?

my family comes every summer. Spending quality time together Out East is my favorite way to unwind. My husband loves cooking. We’ve got classic rock playing throughout the house, and our fridge is always stocked with rosé and white wine. Ending the day with friends coming over for dinner makes the weekend complete.

What town is your favorite?

Southampton for shopping, Sag Harbor for its charming vibe and great restaurants, and East Hampton for the beaches.

Our Harriet Silk Halter Tank Top is also a classic; you can wear it six different ways, and it never fails to turn heads.

What have been some of your proudest career moments?

Getting into Bergdorf Goodman was a pivotal moment for me, and opening our first flagship store on Madison Avenue in 2019 was another milestone I’ll never forget. I must admit, seeing Taylor Swift wear Ramy Brook a few months ago was definitely a career highlight!

What are some new categories for you?

Jewelry and accessories have always been a love of mine. In fact, I started Ramy Brook as a way to showcase my [personal] jewelry collection. I’m thrilled that we’ve now expanded into designing jewelry to perfectly complement our clothing. From layered necklaces to charm bracelets to statement rings, our jewelry is fabulous. Who are your style muses?

My mother instilled a love for fashion in me from an early age. I also love Bianca Jagger. When you’re not running your empire, how do you unwind in the Hamptons?

When designing for summer, I think about what I’d want to wear to all the fun summer events Out East—a printed maxi for dinner, an all-white outfit with turquoise jewelry for parties, and a vibrant swimsuit with a fun cover-up for daytime. For a night out, it’s always a sexy top and denim—especially white denim, because it’s definitely the season for it!

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Some of my favorite stores in the Hamptons are HomeGoods and T.J. Maxx. What’s next for you?

Our brand-new summer collection just launched, inspired by the tropical prints and breezy fabrics of Tulum; it’s quickly become one of my all-time favorites. Fern Mallis is often referred to as the “Godmother of Fashion.” After all, she’s recognized as the creator of New York Fashion Week, having previously held leadership roles at the CFDA and IMG Fashion. The living legend recalls moving into one of her first New York City apartments in the Murray Hill neighborhood where she chose a red carpet throughout the entire space. “It was a complete red box, literally,” she says. It was there that she started collecting objects and artwork that resembled hearts. “So when people came to me about doing something for heart disease, hearts were already very much a part of my visual language.”

The American Heart Association (AHA) has been dedicated to fighting heart disease (which remains the leading cause of death among women), but they can’t do it without the help of fashion powerhouses like Mallis. At this year’s Heart of the Hamptons Sand & Style Soirée on June 27th, she will be receiving the American Heart Association Impact Award for her role in the success of the Red Dress campaign. “I like having an impact,” Mallis says. “I hope I’m worthy of that accolade.”

The idea to start a campaign promoting awareness surrounding women’s heart disease came across Mallis’s desk when she was at the helm of NYFW. She worked with The Heart Truth, the team spearheading the (now) Red Dress campaign at the time, to get designers showing at the biannual New York event to contribute red gowns to be displayed in the infamous tents in Bryant Park.

On the heels of a successful campaign with then First Lady Hillary Clinton, Mallis knew that having the White House on their side would be instrumental in bringing the Red Dress campaign to fruition at NYFW. “I said to the team, ‘If we want to make this happen, we need to get Laura Bush on board,’ ” Mallis says. And they did just that, creating history on Valentine’s Day 2003 with the first Red Dress campaign.

Mallis says that she became First Lady Laura Bush’s point of contact throughout the process.

“I remember getting calls from the Secret Service and the White House. She came back to the event for many years to come,” she says. Designers such as Vera Wang, Donna Karan, Oscar de la Renta, and many others contributed to this inaugural campaign, creating a lasting impact.

Just like NYFW, the Red Dress campaign has evolved right alongside it. “The first year, the dresses were displayed on mannequins, then the following year top IMG models adorned red

dresses at a runway show, and then it became a celebrity-driven extravaganza,” Mallis says. By 2014, the American Heart Association began collaborating with The Heart Truth for the high-profile event. “Everyone wanted to be a part of it, and every designer wanted their dress on the runway. The red dress became synonymous with heart disease. It’s been incredible watching it grow and knowing that it’s saved lives.”

Being recognized at the Heart of the Hamptons Sand & Style Soirée is an honor

for Mallis as she says the East End is her happy place. “I’m looking forward to spending time out there and catching my breath,” she says. “It’s where I go and feel like my battery gets recharged.”

Besides gearing up for more stylish conversations via her popular Fashion Icons series at the 92nd Street Y, working on her third book, and starting the process of a potential film documentary, Mallis is as busy as ever. Her parting words to us: “There’s no grass growing under my feet!” T

A Day in the Life of Sophie Elgort

Join us as we go behind the lens with photographer and host of All Arts on PBS’s Portrait Mode with Sophie Elgort to see what she’s getting up to in the Hamptons this season. BY EMILY WHITE

Sophie, you’re the host and EP of All Arts’ new series Portrait Mode with Sophie Elgort. How did it come about?

Over the pandemic, I started an Instagram series where I’d interview my dad [photographer Arthur Elgort] about a different photograph each week and he would tell the story behind it. I pitched the show to Diane Masciale at All Arts on PBS, and she gave me valuable feedback. We kept in touch and eventually came up with a different idea together. Four years, and a lot of work later, we’re premiering the show. What can viewers expect from the series?

Each episode goes behind the scenes at a photo shoot with a different world-renowned artist

across genres. My favorite part of photography is getting to know the subject through the photo shoot process, not only by what they say during our conversations throughout but also by seeing them in action. We wanted to create this show to offer a window into that process. You spend much of your time behind the lens. What was it like stepping into the spotlight? I grew up in front of the camera; my dad was always taking our photos, so I’m comfortable because I’m good at ignoring the camera and just going about my business, which is exactly what I had to do in this show.

You’re not only the host of Portrait Mode but the executive producer as well. How were

you able to balance both roles during the filming process?

Most of my work as executive producer came in pre-production and post-production, like concept, format, bringing on talent, post-production of the images, feedback on the edit process versus production on the day-of, when the All Arts team took over and I could focus on being the host and the photographer.

What was your favorite memory from being on set?

There’s not just one. Rita Moreno breaking into a perfect rendition of Peggy Lee’s “Why Don’t You Do Right” mid-filming, watching Skylar Brandt play Bond girl in the middle of City Hall Park for my Super 8 camera, watching

Nile Rodgers jam on his famous Hitmaker guitar, and of course, getting to photograph my dad outside his studio in Soho hearing stories about shoots from the past 40-plus years on those same streets.

How will you spend your time off from filming in the Hamptons this summer?

With my family—my husband and three young kids, as well as my parents and brothers and extended family.
