GLOW TIME

It’s hard to believe that it’s already the last full month of summer, but here we are! I’m thrilled to introduce our August issue of Spotlight, which is dedicated to everything beauty.

We all know the saying “Beauty is only skin deep.” But it’s so much more—it’s about expression, confidence, and individuality. As summer stretches on in the Hamptons, there’s an undeniable energy in the air—a glow that radiates from within and spills into the way we present ourselves. That’s exactly what this month’s Spotlight celebrates—beauty in all its bold, transformative forms. We’re honored to feature Chris Appleton as our cover star this issue. From Kim Kardashian to Jennifer Lopez, Chris is the celebrity hairstylist and creative visionary behind some of the most iconic hair moments in pop culture. He’s also an ambassador for Color Wow, one of my favorite haircare brands that’s transformed the beauty biz one lock at a time. But behind the glam is a story of grit, artistry, and authenticity—one that we’re proud to share in this special edition. Read our exclusive interview with Chris on page 28. Inside, you’ll find skincare must-haves and destinations we recommend for all types of treatments Out East. New Spotter Dria Murphy shares some of her essential beauty products to keep you looking good. Also, indulge in an interview with David and Sybil Yurman, who have penned a gorgeous tome and are behind the jewels that make so many shine. Peruse party pics from our event with Manolo Blahnik that blew away East Hampton, and much more. As always, Spotlight is where style meets substance, with a hyperfocus on who and what make up our community. So go ahead—turn the page, try the serum, book the treatment, take the selfie. This month, we’re leaning into the glow-up. Here’s to feeling beautiful, inside and out.

Q&A WITH MALA SANDERS

Real Estate Broker, The Corcoran Group

Mala, what’s the secret to your longevity in such a competitive market?

I keep it real—with my clients, with colleagues, and in how I approach the business every day. People know they’ll get the straight story from me, whether it’s about a property, pricing strategy, or the market overall. I also stay on top of the data—what’s moving, where the demand is shifting, what’s coming next—and I share that insight so my clients can make smart, confident decisions. How have buyers’ and sellers’ expectations shifted in the Hamptons market?

Buyers are thinking longterm—they want to know the property they buy today will hold value when they go to sell. They’re also more drawn to turn-key homes with high design and minimal hassle. What trends are you seeing going into August?

We’re seeing the usual seasonal bump, but quality inventory is still tight, especially in that $3–$10 million range. Well-priced, well-positioned homes are getting snapped up fast. What does the Hamptons lifestyle mean to you? To me, it’s the most beautiful place in the world. If I had to choose anywhere to vacation, I’d choose here. It’s a vibrant year-round community built around nature and good living.

The Hook Windmill is constructed by Nathaniel

STILL STANDING STRONG

The historic windmills of the East End, including the iconic Hook Windmill, remain as living landmarks and a powerful testament to preservation efforts. Here, we look at the enduring legacy of this cherished East Hampton institution. BY

The classic wood paneling, quaint white-trimmed windows, and manicured landscapes that define many Hamptons homes also characterize some of its most iconic—and historic—structures. Among them are 11 historic windmills scattered across the area, often passed by residents and visitors without a second thought. These timeless landmarks have endured for centuries, but one in particular stands out.

The Hook Windmill, built in 1806, is still nestled between Pantigo Road and North Main Street in East Hampton, thanks to decades of community care and preservation. The windmill changed hands several times before the Village of East Hampton acquired it in 1922. Since then, it has been open seasonally for tours in which visitors can go inside to get an up-close look at its storied past.

What makes the Hook Windmill especially unique is its unchanging location; it has stood on the same spot for nearly 220 years, a rare feat for historic windmills. Though there has been talk of relocating it due to road safety—much like the Westhampton Beach Windmill in 2022—for now, the Hook Windmill remains rooted in place, a proud and enduring symbol of East Hampton’s heritage.

1922

The Village of East Hampton purchases the mill in order to restore it for preservation and summer use.

DID YOU KNOW…

1908

After more than 100 years of operation, commercial milling ceases and the windmill halts production.

•The Hook Windmill, also known as the Old Hook Mill, was one of the last operating windmills on Long Island and is still capable of spinning because it’s one of the youngest.

•The mill is named after a bend or “hook” in East Hampton’s North Main Street where it sits on an artificial mound called the “mill hill” that had been the site of one or possibly two previous windmills.

1978

The windmill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

2007

The structure undergoes a major restoration. With the help of local preservation groups, there has been occasional demonstrations of operation.

•East Hampton is reportedly the only place in the United States that maintains three historic windmills. The other two are Pantigo Mill and Gardiner Mill.

•The center post of the Hook Mill appears to be the main post of the former Post Mill, which was torn down when the Hook Mill was constructed. This main post is the only physical evidence to remain of the many post mills constructed on eastern Long Island during the 17th and 18th centuries.

ONE (RADIANT) DAY AT A TIME

What you do on a daily basis can make or break your beauty and wellness regimen. Here are some ways to elevate your everyday routine with products that actually make a difference.

As the founder of by dria—a wellness company dedicated to helping lifestyle brands build meaningful connections through events and strategic partnerships—I realize how overwhelming and crowded the wellness space has become. After years of working closely with both brands and consumers, this insight led me to create the by dria membership—a trusted platform that helps people discover what’s truly worth their time, energy, and investment. Rooted in community, content, and curated experiences, our mission is to offer an effortless way to prioritize well-being and elevate everyday living. I’m all about feeling my best, staying consistent, and keeping wellness simple—and these beauty essentials I swear by are a perfect way to achieve that. Here are some of my favorites!

1. FURTUNA SKIN BIPHASE MOISTURIZING OIL

This luxurious nighttime oil gives me a glow in the morning. It’s lightweight and plumps my skin with moisture and hydration while I sleep. The ingredients are sustainably sourced from the hills at the brand’s organic farm in Sicily. $125, furtunaskin.com

2. DR. WHITNEY BOWE BEAUTY TRI-LIPTIDE PEPTIDE LIPENHANCING TREATMENT

I’ve noticed a visible fullness to my lips after using the Dr. Whitney Bowe Lip Treatment, which targets eight signs of aging. My lips are also incredibly hydrated and soft. The formula isn’t sticky, has a transparent color, and is fragrancefree. $34, drwhitneybowebeauty.com

3. LIVON LABS LYPOSPHERIC VITAMIN C

Liposomal Vitamin C is my go-to for overall immune support. Your body’s white blood cells can take in vitamins more easily than other cells in the body, which helps to increase your natural defense system. This form of vitamin C goes straight to your bloodstream, which allows your body to absorb it quickly. Not to mention, there’s no added sugar. Just squeeze a packet into a shot glass with water or coconut water and shoot it like a real shot. Cheers! 30 packets, livonlabs.com

4. KATE MCLEOD DAILY STONE BODY MOISTURIZER

I make sure to use this deep moisturizing lotion bar—which is known as “The Daily” and made of rose, frankincense, neroli, and has no synthetic fragrances—all over to keep my body hydrated before bed.

5. SARAH CREAL BACK OF THE CAB MASCARA

One coat of this mascara is perfect for daytime, and two gives just enough drama for night. It lengthens lashes, is smudge-proof, and stays put all day. I didn’t even notice the shade is called Back of the Cab, which feels spot-on for how effortlessly it goes on, even in a rush. $40, sarahcrealbeauty.com

6. SYMBIOME THE ESSENCE REJUVENATING MIST

I use this after a workout, on an airplane, and throughout the day to stay fresh. The ingredients are minimal, including aloe vera and full-spectrum hyaluronic acid. It purifies and balances the skin’s pH while fighting acne-causing bacteria, delivering pro-collagen peptides, and promoting cellular repair. 50, dermstore.com

7. DREAM RECOVERY MOUTH TAPE

I genuinely believe mouth taping is one of the simplest ways to improve your health without any drastic changes to your lifestyle. This skincare-infused and dermatologist-approved mouth tape is formulated with superior ingredients, including organic bamboo silk, which naturally fights bacteria and germs. The strips also boasts a medical-grade, hypoallergenic adhesive for a strong hold that’s gentle on skin, with no PFAS, toxins, or chemicals. $97 for 90 strips, dreamrecovery.io

8. ART OF TEA MATCHASTICKS

I love matcha; it’s full of theanine and antioxidants, both of which help relax your body and mind. So having matcha on the go is essential, especially when I travel. These packets contain organic ceremonial-grade matcha and mix easily. $25 for 12 sticks, artoftea.com T

JENNIFER CREEL

WORKING THOSE TIMELESS RED LIPS

More than just makeup, red lipstick has long been a symbol of strength, rebellion, and identity. Whether cool-toned or warm, matte or glossy, here’s how to make the classic crimson pout a perfect look for you.

AWESTMAN ATELIER

Lip Suede Matte Lipstick in Poppy Red, $50, westman-atelier.com

rguably, no makeup has stood the test of time like a boldly defined red lip. From Cleopatra to Taylor Swift, red lipstick has worn all hats, from glamorous to taboo, revolutionary to classic. Suffragettes wore it as a badge of honor, and no matter the era, a base layer of courage seems to be a prerequisite when I was never one to reach for a red lipstick—

have always been understated and minimal, and I shied away from bold colors, thinking that they were too strong of a contrast for my pale skin. I was always more interested in fragrance over makeup, but time and again I was told to wear red lipstick to bring out my blue eyes. Anytime I had my makeup done professionally, they insisted on putting red lipstick on me. I remember modeling at a Calvin Klein photo shoot when I wore a bright red lip color for the first time and I felt transformed with this intense new look. Eventually, I grew to like it and appreciated how a good red color can be beautiful, classic, and carry its own weight in fashion.

CHANEL

Rouge Coco Bloom Intense Shine

Lip Colour in Bright, $48, chanel.com

Which comes first? Confidence to wear red, or does the red inspire confidence? A little bit of both, I suppose. One definitely needs to be in the mood for red, but once there, you can’t help but carry your head a little higher. When “styling the red” I like to keep my clothing minimal and classic, and I love how black or white linen complement a red lip color so well. Throw on a big hat and it paints quite the picture.

The pop of color can be so nostalgic and brings me back to seeing my mother and grandmother wearing red lipstick, both so

glamorous in their own right. Of course a red lip color can also be seasonal. I tend to go for lighter berry reds in the summer and bolder cherry reds in the cooler months, glossy finish in the daytime and satin in the evening. But truly, there are no rules. That’s the beauty of a timeless red.

As I connect with more and more people through my custom jewelry—and help tell their stories with the pieces that they chose and the details we create together—I’m inspired by bold shapes and sizes. It’s an invitation to be seen, to not shy away from showing your biggest and brightest self. We have but a short life to live, so put on your biggest necklace, brightest red lipstick, hide behind a big hat if you need to, and get out there and enjoy! T

WHEN HEALTH MEETS HEART

The wellness craze is top of mind these days. But can it lead you to your ideal partner? The answer might be closer than you think!

Wellness is all the rage right now. But when it comes to our dating lives, how do we know which wellness trends to tune out and which ones to focus on? I sifted through all the noise so you don’t have to! The key to anything that will lead to love is doing it for yourself first and foremost, and the love will follow. Here are five steps to lead the way.

1. Therapy, therapy, therapy. Working on yourself is and always will be the first step to attracting someone. The more we work on ourselves, the more of a catch we will be. Everyone is looking for a partner with self-awareness. Use therapy to heal any past wounds, boost your emotional intelligence and self-awareness, and improve your relationship skills. As we heal relationships with people in our own lives, we will be able to show up the right way when love appears.

moment is a lost art and something that will definitely make you stand out.

3. Focus on your physical health. Moving your body isn’t about looking good, it’s actually more about feeling good than anything else. And it’s about accountability. There’s nothing sexier than a person who says they’re going to do something and actually does it.

Exercise can be that accountability coach that you’re needing. Plus, it boosts your confidence, energy, and mood.

2. Practice mindfulness. For almost a decade now mindfulness has been a buzzword, and for good reason. When we’re mindful, we understand what it means to stay present. Staying present is crucial on dates and during the dating process itself. With our phones in our hands 24/7, being in the

4. Journaling. Children of the ’90s, you’ll be happy to know that journaling is back. It can be amazing in so many different ways. You can manifest the person you want to call into your life, you can write positive affirmations to yourself, or you can simply keep a dating diary. However you want to use your journal, putting pen to paper is effective during your journey to find love. It helps you to identify your dating patterns, values, and what you truly want in a relationship. One of my favorite writing exercises is to make a list of your wants vs. your needs in a partner.

5. Expand your social world. You can do all of these wellness practices, but if you aren’t seeing other people, you’ll never meet anyone! You have to be proactive in your social life. Join a walking club, attend a dating event (we host them all the time), or volunteer. Be a yes person who isn’t afraid to go someplace where you don’t know someone and make a new friend or two. You never know who might turn into more.

These methods will help you attract a love that you deserve. But don’t forget, these are for you first and foremost. The most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one with yourself. For more dating and couples tips, you can follow @wemetatacme on Instagram or tune in to “We Met at Acme” wherever you listen to podcasts. Be well! T

DESIGNING WOMAN

Sterling McDavid is known for creating stunning interiors in New York City, Aspen, and beyond. Here, she shares ways to entertain with style for the summer season and why you should have fun at your own party!

She brings a refined, art-inspired aesthetic to each design project, but Sterling McDavid also knows how to throw a great dinner party. She founded her New York City–based interior design and development studio in 2014. A former analyst at Goldman Sachs, McDavid has had her work featured in Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, and Vogue. She splits her time among the Hamptons, NYC, Aspen, and Fort Worth with her husband and two children. We had a chance to sit down with McDavid to talk about how she balances timeless design with a highly personal approach to entertaining.

How would you describe your approach to entertaining in the Hamptons?

I love curating a Hamptons tablescape because I love to lean in to the beach aesthetic. There’s something especially inviting about blues and whites. It all comes together easily with the special linens and dinnerware I’ve collected over the years or that have been passed down as family heirlooms. Adding freshly cut hydrangeas from our backyard makes it feel effortless. What makes hosting in the Hamptons different from entertaining in the city? There’s something more organic about hosting in the Hamptons versus the city. I love buying local produce from Round Swamp Farm and Amber Waves. It makes the entire experience incredibly special.

Do you have a signature touch that guests have come to expect at your gatherings?

We love hosting regular Shabbat dinners at our home; one tradition is saying something we love about each guest at the table before we start eating. This often leads to a variety of responses, but it’s always a positive experience. Are there any seasonal ingredients you like to highlight in your menus?

I always make it a goal to buy local and inseason ingredients when possible. This year we’ve been enjoying the local cantaloupe and watermelon, as well as corn. When it comes to dessert, I’m always a fan of rhubarb pies or fresh local strawberries with whipped cream. Do you have a favorite entertaining space in your Hamptons home?

We created our dining room specifically to host larger dinner parties, but we also love to dine alfresco on a nice summer evening with just one other couple or family. My husband loves to grill, so we enjoy a casual interactive cooking experience outside by the pool. Any tips for entertaining at home? First, make it uniquely you—include your favorite tablescape pieces or cut flowers from your garden. Second, start your own traditions. Consider having a special takehome treat that guests can remember the evening by later. Finally, have fun! Guests are always sure to have a great time when the host is having a good time, too. T

No one enjoys an evening on the town more than me, but let’s be real—if I’m stepping out, I’m stepping out to the max! And certain steps must be taken to create a look that turns heads and tells a story. Here are a few things I do to prepare so I look my best.

NO RUSHING ALLOWED

I always give myself a full hour to get ready— minimum. One of the things I dislike most in life is rushing. I never want to feel hurried when I’m getting dressed or doing my hair and makeup because it’s my special time for myself. Getting ready sets the tone for the entire night.

SHOWER BEFORE, NOT AFTER

If I’m going out, I like to take a shower a couple of hours beforehand. I want to feel fresh, relaxed, and luxurious long before I step out. I don’t want to come home late at night and feel like I still have to shower.

OUTFIT FIRST, ALWAYS

You know how people stand in front of the refrigerator wondering what to eat? I don’t want to do that with my closet. I like the outfit— shoes, accessories, jewelry—laid out ahead of time. No guesswork, just pure glamour.

LET THE HAIR BAKE

Before I start my makeup, I always tease my hair and give it a good spray so it can “bake” while I do the rest of my prep. It gives it that hold and volume I love. Then, I move on to makeup. Once I’m done, I gently shape my hair—just a little final touch here and there.

MIRROR CHECK, PLEASE

I step back, look in the mirror, and do a final inspection. I like to see the full picture (front and back) before I leave the house. Everything has to work together—head to toe.

THE PURSE PROBLEM

One of my biggest problems in life? Changing my bag. I always double-check that I have my keys, phone, and my mini makeup bag. (I never use the makeup when I’m out, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that it’s there!)

MY GOLDEN RULE: NO CALLS not answer the phone while I’m getting ready. People will call and say, “I’ll be quick,” and 20 minutes later they’re still talking. My trick? I don’t answer at all. My time and routine are precious—and so are yours! T

The

ATTRACTION

From styling the strands of Kim Kardashian to transforming everyday women live on TV, Chris Appleton isn’t just creating looks, he’s making moments. The celebrity hairstylist opens up about his rise to the top, what makes a look truly memorable, and why there’s no place more iconic in the summer than the Hamptons.

Chris, you’ve become one of the most sought-after hairstylists in the world, but let’s go back. What first drew you to hair?

I was dyslexic, so I had a hard time in school and I wasn’t into sports. I started out doing my mum’s hair, and I saw her reaction when I would finish. Her shoulders were back, and she felt good about herself; giving women that feeling was what drew me to doing hair. I could make them feel amazing just by sitting in my chair.

What was your first big break, and how did it come about?

I think it was when I won BBC’s Young Hairdresser of the Year

TV show in 2010. I couldn’t believe I won, and I realized I could make a career of this.

What’s your creative process like when working with a new client or for a major event?

It usually depends on the client. More often than not, it’s a collaborative effort among myself, the client, and the stylist.

How did you first meet Kim Kardashian?

She called me to do her hair and we clicked instantly! What has it been like to be a part of her style evolution?

I call Kim my muse because she’s so open to trying something new and different. We both love pushing boundaries, and it just opens me up creatively to keep things interesting.

Favorite Kim look ever?

Oh, that’s like picking a favorite child. It’s so hard to pick just one.

What about Jennifer Lopez?

Jennifer messaged me on Instagram, which is so crazy! Initially I thought it was a scam, but then she messaged again. Just when you think no one is watching, they are, so keep showing up and doing great work because you never know.

You’ve had such a meteoric rise in the industry. Was there a specific moment when you thought, “I’ve made it”?

You know I’ve never felt like I’ve made it. I’m always striving to be better, but I’m thankful for the amazing moments I’ve had in my career thus far.

What do you think makes a hairstyle truly memorable?

I think it’s that perfect mix of originality, timelessness, and cultural impact. It’s not just about how it looks—it’s how it makes people feel, how it defines a moment, and how it keeps getting referenced, reimagined, and remembered.

You’ve become a celebrity in your own right. How do you balance being “Chris Appleton, the artist” vs. “Chris Appleton, the brand”?

It’s all about balance. I’m first and foremost an artist, but as a brand, I have to stay consistent

“Just when you think no one is watching, they are, so keep showing up and doing great work because you never know.”

and intentional. I make sure to keep that creativity alive while representing who I am. The big news in the beauty biz is that L’Oréal acquired haircare brand Color Wow in June. Tell us about your role at Color Wow, and the three products everyone should own from the line!

I’m a global ambassador for Color Wow, and my top-three products are definitely Dream Coat because it coats the hair and keeps out moisture, making the hair frizz-free; my Money Masque for treating the hair; and the Color Security Shampoo is tried and true, and it keeps the scalp clean and free from buildup. What grounds you while dealing with the chaos of the beauty and celebrity world?

My family, especially my kids.

What’s one part of your daily routine you never skip, beauty-related or otherwise? I love keeping my workouts in my daily routine; they keep me feeling grounded and clear-headed.

You’re here with us this summer in the Hamptons. What do you love most about it?

Nothing says iconic summer more than the Hamptons. I love the beach out here, the good food, and that laid-back coastal vibe.

It’s the kind of place where time slows down in the best way.

Do you take on new clients? What does that process look like?

Yes, I’m always open to working with someone new. Sometimes, I see someone and reach out and sometimes they reach out to me, it just depends.

Tell us about contributing to both the Today show and The Drew Barrymore Show, and your favorite part about creating on-air?

I’m a contributor to the Today show and lifestyle contributor to The Drew Barrymore Show. I love my time with both casts. I love transforming women on live TV and giving them the opportunity to change their look and feel good.

What’s next for you? Anything you can tease for Spotlight readers?

I have something I’m looking forward to sharing soon. I think it will help, inspire, and motivate, and I poured my soul into it, so I’m excited to share it with you all in good time. What’s something we’d be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a huge daredevil. I don’t shy away from risk-taking. T

The Legacy of David and Sybil Yurman

In their book, Artists and Jewelers, David and Sybil Yurman reflect on five decades of creative partnership, love, and legacy. From childhood in the Bronx to their home in Amagansett, the iconic couple shares what fuels their bond, their brand, and their ever-evolving artistic vision. BY

Artists and Jewelers is such a fitting title for your story. What inspired you to put this book together now?

David Yurman: I think it’s just age. I realized that my wife, Sybil, and I have been doing this for 50-plus years. I didn’t want it to just be about jewelry, I wanted to show how we started—what brought Sybil and me both here. We grew up living in the Bronx a few blocks away from each other. Our paths crossed continuously being in the same place at the same time. We eventually met, and 56 years later, we’re still married, arguing,

loving, doing things, and working on projects. You must have a story to have a brand. And part of writing this book was just taking an even deeper look at that story.

How did you balance storytelling and the use of imagery in the book?

David: When we sat down to write this book and layer in images to illustrate the stories, we realized over the years we hadn’t really shared any of our personal images. So it was easy; we simply shared the story of our lives and the images followed—none had been seen by anyone other than us. The images of

our designs and work tell the story, images of my sculptures and Sybil’s paintings. Because you’ve been with Sybil—married for more than 40 years and known her for 56—what’s the key to maintaining the special dynamic that you have?

David: Do you have a couple of months? [Laughs] I don’t think there is one key, but rather: respect—a lot of respect—fear, to keep you in line, and just remembering that we are each other’s partner. Sometimes, my wife can be blunt. I’ve realized that everything Sybil says to me is what she thinks is the best.

David and Sybil Yurman

Sybil, what were your first impressions of David when you met him?

Sybil Yurman: He looked sensitive, and he had a kindness and tenderness about him. Great blue eyes. He listened. He was curious. David Yurman has obviously become a household name in American jewelry. How important is legacy to you today?

David: I like the fact that we’re in so many homes. We’re not just jewelers to stars; we’re jewelers to people. We’re jewelers to families. So I feel good about it; they’re Yurmanites. They’re all part of the family. I love that.

“You

must have a story to have a brand. And part of writing this book was just taking an even deeper look at that story.” —David Yurman

What does summering in the Hamptons mean to you?

Sybil: It’s wonderful out in the Hamptons. We have a home in Amagansett. It’s a quiet place. It’s a place for family. It’s a place to relax. It’s friends. And I have a studio where I can paint. David can sculpt. It’s just a quiet place is what it is. I have two retired reigning horses in Bridgehampton.

How do you see the brand evolving over the next decade?

Sybil: We’re constantly involved in exploration and innovation of materials.

So that means the unique settings, unique cuttings of stones. And my son, Evan [president of David Yurman], and David are both major collectors and aficionados of unusual stones and the resourcing of that. As we move forward, we will continue to develop high jewelry designs.

What’s been the most rewarding part of building this brand and creative journey together as a unit?

Sybil: We’ve been able to forge a shared language between us that allows for fun and daily communication. It’s like poetry. T

Inside Frederico Azevedo’s Sag Harbor Sanctuary ROOTED in BEAUTY

Known for transforming the East End’s gardens into living works of art, landscape designer Frederico Azevedo has brought his signature work to his own backyard. The founder of Unlimited Earth Care embarked on a renovation that honored the soul of the original property while evolving it to fit the next chapter of his life. BY SYDNEY SADICK

Frederico, what sparked the idea to renovate your home in Sag Harbor?

I love the piece of property I’m on, and when I first came here and saw that there were farms along the road and woodlands all around, I knew the soil was fertile and would respond well to the plants and flowers I wanted to grow. I’ve been designing and reworking this property for 30 years now. My two children, Lorenzo and Livia, were raised here; they visit often and are attached to the house and the land, so my intention was to create something that felt entirely new, a fresh start, without losing the heart of my home.

What was your vision for the space?

When I first came to America, my dream was to have the traditional American life—a black Labrador, a pickup truck, and a colonial

American house. I originally built this house in 1996 and moved in the following year. The concept was a modern interpretation of colonial American architecture, for a modern American life—still including my black Lab and pickup truck, of course!

What’s the inspiration behind the home?

In all four seasons, I like to be outdoors. I want to be outside, so the kitchen now extends into an outdoor kitchen, which leads to a pergola for entertaining and enjoying meals outdoors. The pool is adjacent, framed in colorful flowers. The outdoor kitchen is covered by a ceiling and is heated, which has been wonderful. The flow between the indoor and outdoor areas feels efficient and intentional. Who was your decorator? Shawn Leonard was the architect, and the

interior and of course the exterior gardens and landscaping I designed myself. How would you describe your design aesthetic in three words?

Simplicity, consistency, and luminosity. If you could design a dream home anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

This is my dream home; it’s beyond what I dreamed. I also have my dream homes in Manhattan, Hudson, and Miami. I feel lucky to wake up in my dream home every day now. T

THE CULTURE ARCHITECT

How Jarrod Moses Is Reinventing Brand Storytelling

As the founder and CEO of United Entertainment Group, Jarrod Moses sits at the crossroads of celebrity, strategy, and culture—building global campaigns and iconic partnerships that shape how brands show up in the world. His vision has made UEG a powerhouse—and the future of marketing into something personal.

You’re the founder and CEO of United Entertainment Group (UEG). For those who don’t know, what exactly does UEG do?

UEG is a culture company. Culture is the cornerstone of everything we do. We harness it—not just to follow trends, but to stay ahead of them— and we use it as our north star to create meaningful opportunities for both brands and talent. Whether it’s launching a new product with a famous star, creating a global campaign for a Fortune 100 brand, or building a business with a breakout creator, we help brands show up in the world in ways that are timely, relevant, and culturally resonant.

Tell us about some of the incredible names you’ve worked with over the years!

It’s been an honor to collaborate with talent like Rihanna, Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Swift, Queen Latifah, Chris Pratt, Doechii, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez, the Kardashians, and MrBeast, as well as brands such as Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks, Samsung, PepsiCo, and BMW. Whether it’s building a campaign, a new business, or a collaboration, our job is to bring their vision to life in a way that resonates. What sparked your vision for the company?

UEG was launched in 2007 in partnership with Hollywood powerhouse United Talent Agency (UTA). Since then, we have become partners with the communications giant Edelman. From day one, the mission was clear—to sit at the intersection of entertainment and brand marketing with insider access to culture movers, and to do it differently. We saw that the future of brand communication would be led by talent and culture, not just traditional advertising.

Why was the pandemic time so transformative for your business? During COVID, I was living in the Hamptons full-time. Like most

of the world, our company went fully virtual. But that allowed us to deepen our relationships with talent—both A-listers and digital creators—because suddenly, everyone was in the same boat. Consumers were getting their content virtually, and we leaned all the way into that. It changed our approach—and it worked.

What does UEG look like today?

We’re now in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and San Francisco—and globally in London, Singapore, Seoul, Munich, and Berlin. We were named Ad Age’s Sports and Entertainment Agency of Year for 2025. We’re very proud of that. What do you enjoy most about the Hamptons?

I’ve been coming out here since the beginning of UEG. It’s where I reset and refocus. I love barbecuing, strolling through Sag Harbor, catching a game at the bar at Townline BBQ, and getting out on the bay in a boat. It’s also a place where I can slow down just enough to think big again.

What’s one thing most people don’t understand about your world?

People think a lot of what you see in the world of content is luck and timing. Some of it is, but the truth is that many of the creators and artists you see on your screens or listen to have been honing their craft for a long time. It’s not easy. The real work is in the strategy—understanding how to connect the right platform or talent with the right brand at the right cultural moment. That’s where we come in.

What’s next for you and the company?

I’m energized by the way brands and talent are coming together, not just to promote products, but to build real businesses. We’re helping creators launch their own IP and legacy brands reinvent themselves through cultural partnerships. It’s not about chasing the spotlight; it’s about building something that lasts. T

SADICK DERMATOLOGY

A Day in the Life of Aliza Licht

The award-winning marketer, bestselling author, and “Leave Your Mark” podcast host has an extremely busy schedule. Here’s how she unwinds when she’s in the Hamptons. BY EMILY WHITE

Aliza, how did you get your start in brand building?

I started as a pre-med student and made a last-minute pivot. I landed an internship in magazine editorial, which led me into fashion PR in the late 1990s. Working at Donna Karan and later under LVMH was a master class in brand building. In 2009, I launched DKNY PR Girl on Twitter, an anonymous voice that gave people a behindthe-scenes look at the fashion world. It became one of the first branded social media personalities. That led to my first book, Leave Your Mark, and then On Brand, which distills everything I’ve learned about personal branding.

What’s your No. 1 tip for someone looking to grow their own brand?

Know who you are, and make sure how you show up reflects that. Start by defining your North Star goal. What do you want to be known for? Then set

brand guardrails so everything you say and do supports that goal. Your brand should reflect your values, expertise, and unique perspective. Your online presence should be aligned with the real-life you. What you do today might not be what you do tomorrow, but your reputation stays with you.

Tell us about the “Leave Your Mark” podcast!

I launched the show in 2019 as an extension of my book by the same name. Every Wednesday, I host honest, tactical conversations with dynamic guests—real people doing incredible things and sharing practical tips anyone can use, no matter the industry. I also started doing solo episodes to dive deeper into topics I care about and offer more direct advice.

and open to discovering new things. It’s the perfect place to create meaningful, memorable brand moments. Whether it’s a pop-up, a wellness event, or a collaboration with a local favorite, the setting allows brands to show up in a way that feels organic and elevated. Are you working on any new projects at the moment?

What are some of your go-to summer spots Out East?

Why is the Hamptons a good place to market a brand?

In the summer you’ve got a concentrated, influential audience that’s relaxed, present,

Yes! I'm almost done with my first novel, which has been such a fun and creative shift. I can’t share too much yet, but it’s set in the fashion world and has been a total passion project.

The Hamptons is my happy place. I usually start my mornings at the new and fabulous Sagaponack General Store for coffee followed by SoulCycle at The Barn. I always do a quick spin through T.J. Maxx. Round Swamp Farm’s fresh berries are a must. I love dinner in Sag Harbor, but happy hour at home with a great barbecue is just as good. And a scoop from John’s Drive-In in Montauk is the perfect way to end the day. T

Bianka Lefferts

Co-owner, 27 Hampton Salon

She’s turned a lifelong love of beauty into a luxury salon destination in Southampton. For the past 16 years, as the founder of 27 Hampton Salon, Bianka Lefferts has raised the bar with top-tier talent, year-round services, and a mission to make every client feel like family. BY

Bianka, tell us a bit about your journey. How did you get started in the beauty industry?

I developed an obsession with hair as a child. However, my education lead me down a different path in finance. I worked in the World Trade Center until it collapsed. I began my career then. My love of hair became a fulltime job as of October 2001. What inspired you to open 27 Hampton Salon?

When my husband, James, and I moved to the Hamptons, I wanted to open an incredible NYC/L.A.–style salon that offers all luxury beauty services. We wanted to bring in talent from the top salons in NYC, Miami, L.A.—and to make sure that we were open year-round! Was there a defining moment when you knew this was the path you wanted to take?

That was when I found the space at 27 Hampton Road. It was an ideal location. I knew that all the Southampton residents would be thrilled to have our services here. What makes 27 Hampton Salon unique compared to other salons in the area?

The majority of our team is published editorial artists. We offer all the best haircare and skincare products on the

market, including Milbon, R+Co BLEU, and Oribe. Our skincare department includes ISDIN, ISUN, and the world-renowned stem cell lines Caviarlieri and Celergen.

How would you describe the salon’s vibe?

From the second you step into our salon, we have a relaxed, fun-loving vibe and atmosphere. Not only is our team the absolute best at hair, makeup, skin, and airbrush tanning, but we make sure that everyone feels welcomed and loved from the second they step foot into our space until the second they leave. That’s important to me. What trends in hair or beauty are you loving right now? I love the beautiful sleek bobs

and babylights for color. So youthful and chic! What’s next for you and 27 Hampton Salon? Any exciting plans in the works? I’m looking forward to expanding 27 Hampton Salon to other locations in the Hamptons. Also, we now provide full head-to-toe beautification and fitness goals. 27 Hampton Salon has teamed up with fitness studio Tremble, which also has locations in New York City and Miami. We love to see our guests work out with us at Tremble at 25 Hill Street in Southampton, then come and get beautified at 27 Hampton Salon! T

10 Things About Living Naturally With Sabrina Rudin

The founder of the famed Spring Cafe Aspen in New York City shares some beauty tips to help you enjoy a clean, organic, and healthy lifestyle.

1 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 3

Choose mineral sunscreen vs. chemical sunscreen, and always make sure it’s reef- and ocean-safe.

Avoid parabens, phthalates, fragrance, propylene glycol, and petroleum and petroleum-based coloring. These are the major offenders in beauty and cosmetic products.

Any fragrance should be essential-oil based.

The beauty industry is a leading producer of plastic waste, so source products in glass bottles or silicone containers.

Even “clean makeup” uses petroleum-based lake coloring, so if possible opt for mineralbased coloring.

Consult the Environmental Work Group database for approved beauty and skincare products.

Don’t be afraid to raid your pantry—coconut, avocado, and olive oil all work for hair and skin!

Your skin is your biggest organ, so sauna, steam, exercise, and sweat it out. That way your body can detox all beauty products and other environmental toxins.

If you color your hair, ask for ammonia-free color and skip your roots, so the color doesn’t get absorbed through the scalp into your bloodstream.

Beauty comes from within, so get out in nature, spend time by the ocean, or go for a long walk. The more internal peace you achieve, the higher your vibe and glow will be! T
