Hello my name is Azzia Philyaw and I’m 19 years States) and I grew up a little bit of everywhere sun, the sand, the beaches, the cultures, it trul I started modeling seriously when I was about 14. A family friend asked me to do a few pictures for her photography business that she was starting. After much convincing from my mom and another family friend I did the shoot, posted one of the pictures, and that picture got over 300 like in 20 minutes. Which led to me being approached by a few agencies a few music artist and a lot of photographers.

Modeling was never a dream I mine. Actually it was quite the opposite. I was always the tomboy. I played sports, watched the games watched ESPN, read books and baked a lot. So when that picture (that I didn’t think was that good) went crazy I was in disbelief.

Even though I was young I looked at modeling as a platform for me. A way to be heard. Showing young lady’s that beauty comes within is a big deal to me. And I hope that thru my pictures I express that. I want young girls to build their confidence within so that it can always be seen outside no matter what is going on in their life or this world.

Black Lives Matter The Black Lives Movement is a movement that focuses on advocating against police brutality towards African Americans and all other racially motivated acts of violence and injustice against Black people. The point is to eliminate white supremacy, the oppression, and the systematic racism that targets the Black community. This movement is often incorrectly portrayed. This is not a hate nor violent group; it is simply a protest with the mission to draw attention to the hinderances that systematically and disproportionately impact Black people. The George Floyd protests are a series of protests and civil unrest which began after the killing of George Floyd during an arrest in May 2020. The unrest was not only nationwide, but it also affected other countries as well. The Black Lives Matter Movement did put together some of the protests. And some demon

strations turned into riots, as well as looting, and many people blame the Black Lives Matter Movement for the violence. It is important to recognize that this escalation was not due to the movement, for the movement leaders never intended for it to become violent. Many people protested with the movement, despite not being a part of the movement or fully agreeing with the peaceful part that was intended. These protests have drawn the necessary attention towards the injustice and some legislative proposals have been made as well as the removal of certain monuments and name changes, yet the fight for freedom, liberation, and justice is not over.

Body Transformation

(Cherry Monteiro)

another tool that I love and constantly remind my clients with is , CONSISTENCY, the right discipline by being consistent. This applies in fitness as well as in all aspects of life . Through proper discipline and consistency, you can achieve your goal and even improve further . The mental energy and positivity you gain from this discipline is a wonderful feeling of achievement which words can not describe. You have to start somewhere. You have to have the desire to achieve. The “Will Power “ to continue and not stop . The constant mantra you feed your mind with - A healthy positive Mantra that will keep you going in your journey .

Before I talk about “ Fitness “ or “Body Transformation “ , I would like to introduce myself to you and the story behind my fitness journey. My name is Cherry Monteiro , I am 23 Years old and I’m a Personal Trainer / Coach , Fitness Model , Fashion Model , Influencer and a Journalism Graduate .

There’s a saying that goes “ Health is Wealth “ . This is most neglected by a majority of the population. It is your health that should be given the first priority to . It is your health that keeps you going. Your health is your back bone to everything. If you’re healthy on the inside as well as the outside, you can do wonders . Start your journey right away . You will be amazed to see what your body is capable of. Gift yourself and surprise yourself . The sense of achievement is a wonderful feeling . Start your journey .

I have an experience in the Fitness Industry for 7 years until now . Having trained people of all age groups , both genders to achieve their different fitness goals . I worked as a professional fashion model starting at the age of 14 ( until currently) while I was studying. It all started when I was very petite , Lean or “Skinny” ( According to how people call “weak “ “ thin”) . I was all of that . I constantly heard comments such as “ She needs to eat something “, “ She is too small “ , “She is too weak “ . These comments did affect me but I realised that I had to make a change. I then started with weight lifting . It took a very long time to gain strength but eventually I transformed my body - It did stun a lot of people , but what mattered the most was how I felt - Healthy , Strong , Confident , Powerful. And I think that’s important. Women are capable of having physical strength , along with mental strength! We’re all strong . We just have to make up our mind to start somewhere. Motivation begins when you start seeing very small changes in yourself. Small improvements over a course of time - This will push you further to improve and do better . Another important tool to remember- Everything “ Takes time “ . PATIENCE. Being patient is the most important tool in physical fitness . And

COVID-19

for Models & Modeling - Adlee Ray

What are the challenges faced by models and photographers due to covid-19? One of the biggest challenges has been the number of photographers and models who had to take a break from working since they are in a high risk group. Also, the travel restrictions have made it harder on everybody. In general as a model how difficult has it been to get assignments due to covid-19? It has definitely been tougher over the past year. Especially in the beginning when there were so many people in hospitals, states were issuing stay at home orders and everybody was scared. Also, there were a lot of artists who stopped working because they didn’t want to put their families at risk. What safety precautions do you take while going for shoots in view of covid-19? I ask photographers, make up artists, and anybody else attending the shoot if they are symptomatic or if they have had contact with anybody with Covid in the last 10 days. Then I ask everyone to wear a mask and try their best to maintain social distance without compromising their ability to still capture great photos. Do you feel things have improved as compared to say in June July 2020? Despite the recent surge in cases, there are a lot more photographers shooting and events are taking place. I think a lot of people have Covid-fatigue, but I still try to follow the CDC’s guidelines. Also, I am traveling more now, but I take extra precautions to ensure I am being safe.

With vaccines coming to the market, how long you feel it would take for things to become totally normal for models and photographers? I am hopeful things are back to normal by the end of the year, but I still see a lot of fearful people. Some afraid of Covid, and some afraid to get the vaccine. Depending on how many people actually get the vaccine will ultimately determine how long it takes for things to return to normal…or even the new normal, whatever that may be. What would be your advice to models in view of covid-19, which going for shoots? Other than follow the CDC guidelines of wearing a mask and social distancing when possible, I would advise them to be aware and avoid (or even reschedule) shoots where somebody is symptomatic. While it may actually just be allergies, I have seen several instances where it turned out to be Covid and then that impacts others and they have to get tested and quarantine. Also, if you think you have been exposed, you should get tested. You don’t want to pass it along to somebody else and be responsible for either hurting them or maybe even their family. You may add any other points you feel may be important along with any new pics you have got. Masks have become the new fashion accessory and you can have fun finding, buying, and even wearing new ones. How do feel about remote shooting and do you do it? This has really boomed for a lot of models and

honestly, I am blown away by some of the shots I’ve seen. While some models have simple setups (camera on tripod with a helper), other models have camera sliders and remote operated gimbals which give the remote photographer a tremendous amount of control over the experience. Being knowledgable about modeling, lighting, cameras and the software are great skills that some models have leveraged to continue working despite COVID. I’ve just begun doing remote shoots, but I’m working on getting the equipment and software I need to do it right. I think this way of shooting will be around for awhile so it’s worth the effort. Plus Size

Modeling ! Nirmal Celly Hey! I am a 19 year old girl from New Delhi who’s now an aspiring Plus Size Model in her City. Oh! do I need to mention a curvy girl? Becuase girls like me aren’t treated like every other (skinny) girl out there! I am not actually going to elaborate how society treat obese women or girls out there, but I’m going to tell about PLUS SIZE MODELING!

cy specializing in plus-size and petite models in 1977. And it wasn’t discovered in INDIA! Even at this time 2020, people are unaware of this industry. The plus-size modelling industry has received general criticism on the premise that acceptance of plus-size models sets a poor health example of weight management. Plus size Models aren’t encouraging or glorifying unhealthy food or diet or routine.

You know, I am an extrovert, I love talking to people about their lives, about this world, about any such interesting thing. And by this, I’ve learnt that 80% people in my City, don’t know what Plus Size modeling is? It’s not a big thing, hence we all don’t know about everything. But here’s a thing, people have wrong assumptions of Plus Size Modeling. They know some things, but not in the manner they are meant to be told.

I am not sure of how many MODELS know about this category. A Plus Size Model is a girl who isn’t severely underweight, who’s curvy, who maintain her diet, who takes care of her weight and her body structure for the client projects. A plussize model is an individual of average to larger stature but not exclusively overweight or obese.

Plus size models were first represented by model agencies in the 1970s. Prior to this, models freelanced directly with retailers, designers and magazines. Former plus-size model Mary Duffy owned Big Beauties Little Women, the first agen-

In my opinion, MODELING means representing the product in a beautiful and attractive way, you should look good while representing it, the product should look good on you. You must have a pleasing personality and Look. Which totally

©spotless fashion magazine issue jan 2021

14 means that girls who are severly obese or overweight aren’t plus size models. As this industry isn’t encouraging worst eating or exercising habits. I am a Curvy Girl and I know I am eligible to become a Plus Size Model. This could be a bit offending for some people, but Yes I do take inspiration from Models out of my Country and not the Models of my Country!!! WHY?? Because I feel they know better the meaning of PLUS SIZE MODELING. If we take a look outside the India, they have better acceptance for Curvy Models, even Curvy women. I am feeling sick to tell that India isn’t on that stage for now. Indian society isn’t eager to accept the change, they don’t want the country to change. Plus Size Modeling is taking its step into the fashion industry and it already had taken the step in abroad countries. Representations offer society ways to make sense of the world around them. Visibility of plus-size women in America is a change for the fashion industry, which has become notorious for representing type-A, thin bodies despite diverse ranges of body shapes. The average body type in America is a size 16 around the waist, but Victoria Secret Angels are expected to have size 2 bodies. Fashion brands have started reaching out to plus-size models, and stores are expanding their plus-size sections. However, visibility still may not be enough. Me, I look to the brighter side of my life every time. I’ll not just sit and be sick of people around me. I’ll not just sit and bitch about the things that I CAN CHANGE. I’ll not just sit and accuse society of what they’re doing. I’LL MAKE THE GOD DAMN CHANGE!

Photography into the Wild.

I’am N.Carthik, an independent documentary photographer mainly interested in Birds and Wildlife Photography. I started my passion for travel and wildlife at a very early stage in my life, probably when I was in class 8 or 9. My dad was the inspiration behind this as he used to take me along with him to many of the wildlife sanctuaries and national parks all around India. By the time I completed my graduation from Delhi University in commerce field, I had this new interest in photographing the places I visited specially identifying and clicking birds and animals in the wild. My first camera was a point and shoot zoom camera –Nikon P90 which served all the purposes of my genre of photography as it had a 36x zoom lens in built. I later pursued my post-graduation in Travel and Tourism and wanted to explore travel photography as well. By the year 2013 I was working for ITC Maurya and when you come into the Job line then you get very less time to follow your passion but I never gave up on photography.

photography@ n.carthik

I kept my passion alive by diving into every opportunity I got for clicking photos. From fashion to product then events and property photography as well. By the age of 24 I had travelled almost half of all the wildlife sanctuaries in India and my biggest personal achievement is the 7 days gruelling trek into the virgin forest of The Silent Valley National Park with 6 friends and 5 porters carrying full board. We literally covered 100kms. through the evergreen forests filled with the most dangerous animals in the world like the tiger, Leopard, elephants and deadly snakes. PHEW!! I have been featured in quite a few famous newspapers and wildlife journals along with my dad, for instance Millennium Post, Hindu Business Line and CNBC TV 18 Hindi. Also me along with my dad have put up photo exhibitions-“ Lions of the Landscape” at India International Centre, New Delhi. During my college days I have won many photo competitions in various colleges of Delhi University and also won special

mention of top 10 photographers at IIP (Indian Institute of Photography). Currently the CEO of a start-up travel company DELHIITES TRAVEL WORLDWIDE situated in NOIDA and a hobbyist wildlife photographer and bird watcher. You can check out my work on my instagram account @n.carthik also if you like to travel and have a particular interest in wildlife and Birds, get in touch with me at my email id- carthikk.cc@outlook.com. We organise Bird Watching Tours and Wildlife Photography Tours as well.

Prosthetic makeup -

Yogita Adhikari

mua @vanilla69_

Special Effects Makeup (SFX Makeup) / Prosthetic Makeup SFX / Prosthetic makeup is the process of using prosthetic products like silicone pieces, cold & hot foam , bondo / prosaide transfers, cosmetics, latex, paints and similar products for final application in theatre, television, editorials, costume parties etc. The process involves sculpting, molding and casting techniques with different materials to create advanced cosmetic effects. This technique is very durable and moulded pieces can be as thin as a few layers of skin, so the results are very life-like and hyper realistic. And if we talk about how creative one can get with this type of makeup technique then there are no limits. One can create amazing , completely unrealistic shocking unimaginable looks like fantasy makeup, ghost makeup, zombie makeup, horror makeup, avant garde/futuristic makeup etc with right kind technique and products. If one likes to create art which is mind stimulating , shocking and realistic, then definitely this form of art might open doors of imagination. Creating beautiful art is my passion & Makeup happens to be one of them. My career has allowed me to visit some of the most gorgeous locations the world has to offer. I LOVE the sense of adventure that comes with being a global make-up

artist for weddings, fashion / editorials, movies , music videos but there is all together a different kind of energy & vibe involved when i am doing SFX Project. My recent works for a telugu web series ‘LOCKED’ beautifully directed by Pradeep Deva Kumar which was released on AHA videos has all gore, blood and horror involved. So far i have almost done couple of brain surgeries , heart transplants , beheading , botox , bruises , throat slits, critical intestines injuries & creative creature makeup in my SFX Projects. As a career SFX is not a safe option if you can settle for less & dont have an eye of detail. If we talk about digits then right now the prosthetic makeup industry is booming. The projects are high paying and if you love traveling , adventure & team work then i am sure you would love your life. Following is a quick round of Q/A 1. Working on such a unit which replicated the human brain anatomy with keeping all minute details intact was very challenging. And the final results came out simply incredible. 3. Did you enjoy working on Locked sets? Ans - Absolutely yes, We were on set for some 20 days in the first schedule and shift time was mostly during evening hour. Which was a great fun because it also gave ample opportunities to play prank on our team mates who were sleepy and the property was also very beautiful. Post work was always followed by a long drive with the crew members and new friends which we made during shoot. 4. Have you watched locked? What did you think of it in terms of story? And what did you feel when you saw your hard work come alive? Ans - Honestly telling that i watched the series more than twice. One in original speed and one with lot of pauses in

between because there was no other way to stare every single frame for 15 minutes and praise it’s every minute detail. The series is totally raw and the director brought to us this epic thriller. Hoping to work in more such awesome projects. 5. What did you feel personally when they approached you for Locked? Ans - It was an overwhelming feeling because the production team already had so many talented makeup artists from the industry with them and then also they showed interest in my work, which was a great feeling. LOCKED was a dream project. I was lucky enough to actually live my dream very single day when we were in hyderabad for the shoot. 6. Did you work closely with the director Pradeep? Ans - My first phone call for the series was from our Director Pradeep Deva Kumar. Not only he is an excellent professional but also a gem of a person who supported us in every way possible. He always use to take out time from his schedule to give us his valuable feedback and also gave freedom of work which is a key ingredient of any successful project. Even with so much of pressure on him from all fronts he was always calm ,cheerful and motivating. We see him as the most humble and great team leader.

30 Tips to become a successful model

By Tapas Das

7 Important Steps to Becoming a Successful Model ... 1. Know Your Market One of the most important steps to becoming a model is knowing your market. What does this mean? Well, for starters, depending on the area you live in, certain trends and looks are more popular than others. For instance, if you live in the south , runway modeling and fashion show modeling are not as widespread as commercial modelling for print occasions like magazines, newspapers and store sales papers. Also knowing your market will help you know what look the agencies around you are looking for. Living in a suburban area , agencies aren’t looking for that sleek, ultra-sexy look with overstated hair or makeup like bigger cities are. In fact, the more natural look is actually preferred in suburban areas, while more trendy, sleek looks are wanted in the city. If your look doesn’t fit your market, move to an area that does, or consider travelling back and forth to an area that does. Also know whether you’re auditioning for a market that advertises petite sizes, plus sizes, certain clothing trends, or for a targeted market like natural living, city trends, cosmetic companies, etc. Research, research, research! 2. Find a Good Agency The best thing you can do for yourself is to find a good agency to work with. Agencies should not ask for money up front, or be sketchy in terms of signing anyone possible, which could mean that they run off with the models’ earnings later. Get online and search The Better Business Bureau’s website to find a modelling agency you can trust. A good agency should understand your personal needs as a model, lift you up, and never take money from you. They should also never ask you to put yourself in a dangerous or compromising situation.

3. Be Aware One of my top tips for becoming a model is to be aware of what you’ll face. Know that girls can be cut-throat, the wrong agencies may ask you to sacrifice your morals, integrity or beliefs just to obtain certain photos, and know that it can be a very tiring job. Also be aware that the idea of modelling is not to give you fame, but instead to create a certain wanted look by photographers and companies. You may be asked to cut or color your hair, wear an outfit you don’t like, or spend endless hours travelling to the right photo shoot location just for one shot. You may also be on set for anywhere from 8-12 hours or even more. Know ahead of time that the point of using a model is to create the right photo. Many photographers, agencies and product campaigns put the photo goal ahead of the model’s needs. 4. Keep Your Values Many girls who don’t intend on compromising their values end up doing so if they don’t know ahead of time just what their values are. Don’t ever sacrifice yourself to be a model. The modelling world can be laced with drugs, alcohol, sextrades, rape, greed and more if you get in with the wrong crowd, which is easy to do when you’re looking for a quick route to fame and fortune. Never do anything it takes to get to the top. I can promise you that you’ll regret it later. Outside of local modelling gigs, most outlets for modelling lead to sketchy, compromising situations. Know your values and stick to your guns! On the other hand, the right agencies will honour your values and can lead you to a great career. 5. Get Some Practice Don’t expect to walk into a modelling agency, do a few twirls and expect them to sign you. Having worked in an agency, I can tell you anywhere from 10-

©spotless fashion magazine issue jan 2021

31 20 people a day walked through the doors unexpectedly asking to meet with the owners of the agency. Agencies are extremely busy and usually have girls fill out paperwork and submit photos for review. They almost never see girls by just walking in. Know this ahead of time and get some practice behind your belt. If you do get called in for a meet and greet, you need to keep your look casual, yet also have a confident walk and not look fake. Practice, practice, practice!

what your look has to offer, and how hard each specific outlet for modelling is, such as commercial or runway. The most important thing you can do to become a model is to be yourself! Never change who you are on the inside or outside to make someone else happy. Modelling can be a great way to gain self-confidence and can help you make money on the side of a regular day job. Never sacrifice yourself, your values or your self-esteem to do so!

6. Get a Good Headshot

These steps will lead you to being a successful and happy model.

When it comes to the modelling industry, you won’t get anywhere without a good headshot to get you started. Have someone you know or a photographer take a natural headshot of you. No photo-touching, hardly any makeup, and simple hair should be the top three key points of your photo. I’m serious, girls! Modelling agencies hate Photoshopped pictures, makeup, fancy hair styles, or overdone looks. They want to see you in the raw to see if you could transformed into a variety of looks. Remember, you’re pretty just as you are, so let those agencies see you for you! Most importantly, no Glamour Shot photos!

Tapas Das (+91) 9650192813 Mentor, Guide & Groomer Owner – Dreams Come True – DCT Productions & DCT Model Management

7. Know the Odds The modelling industry is one of the hardest careers to achieve and maintain. Most models who haven’t been modelling up to age 22 are almost guaranteed they won’t make it in the runway industry unless they seek out commercial modelling options. You don’t need to be a certain size to model, nor do you need to look a certain way. You just need to know what the odds are in the market you’re in. If you don’t look like a runway model, that’s fine! Know the odds of what you face in terms of the area you live,
