indian female model of the month

Akshaya Shetty

is an actress and model, who worked in various web-series in Bollywood. ... In Thinkistaan , she portrayed the role Hema who is a model. Then in the same year, she appeared in the web-series Black Coffee which premiered on Ullu Originals and now as Sonal in Alt Balaji Helllojee.

Akshaya Shetty was working in a software company before becoming a full-time actor. Sharing her journey, she says, “Transition from a corporate career to entertainment industry was not a smooth one. After leaving my job, I began from scratch. I gave several auditions, meet people, connect so that I can get a good role. So, it was a completely new thing for me. It was like graduating and starting up from scratch from an internship, and I basically didn’t know anybody, didn’t know the process of the audition. So, it took 10 months to find the right people where I can audition, the right places where I can go. Meeting right people is still a process, because there are very many chances that you meet wrong people in a way.” Acting has always been my passion. I felt like it is a high time that I should follow my passion, so I left my job in 2017. At the end of the day, it is something that can give me happiness. Following my passion helped me from sinking into depression. Life had become monotonous with no enthusiasm. Now nothing makes me happier than facing the camera.” There are certain things that make her worried about the industry. “I feel bad when people say that certain features of girls are not accepted in the industry. Girl next door, fair skin, young girls these are the requirements that surfaces around the market, which is very annoying. Be more receptive towards all skin colour and age groups. TV still has a long way to go when it comes to casting a dark-skinned girl.

MALLAKHAMB 10

Mallakhamb: Fitness The Ancient Way

Aditya Mhaskar

By Here’s a closer look at one of India’s oldest fitness and sports activity It would be worth beginning this account with an explanation of what the name ‘Mallakhamb’ means. It is a combination of ‘mall’ which is a gymnast or a man of strength and ‘khamb’, a pole. So, a combination of the two literally means a gymnast’s pole. This traditional Indian sport finds its origins in ancient India, with early mentions in Chalukya king Someshwar III’s ‘Manasollasa’, written in 1129 CE. After this period though,

there is very little mention of the sport until it was revived by Shri Balambhatta Dada Deodhar, physical instructor to Bajirao Peshwa II. This is why he is known as the father of Mallakhamb. During that time the Peshwa Durbar boasted of many other excellent wrestlers and so they hardly lost any matches to outsiders. In fact, accomplished wrestlers from all over the country visited the region to test their skills and strength. When Balambhatta was 16, he came with his parents to Pune where his father Shri Janardhan Bhatt assisted Peshwa Bajirao II with religious duties. There, young Balambhatta not only excelled in the Vedas but also in sports. He started training as a wrestler. The young man’s capacity to learn and work hard quickly made

©spot’less fashion magazine issue feb 2021

8 him popular in his akhada (a place of wrestling) and by the age of 20 he became well known in the entire region of Pune. The story or the legend attributed to the revival of Mallakhamb is as follows: In the 19th century, two wrestlers called Ali and Gulab from the Nizam of Hyderabad once came to the Darbar of Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa II. They threw open a challenge to the State wrestlers by calling for a bout. Guru Balambhattdada Deodhar accepted their challenge and asked for some time for preparation. During this period, he very sincerely started practicing yoga and tricks of wrestling. Once, while in deep meditation, he saw a vision of Lord Hanuman demonstrating a few tricks on a wooden pole. He rigorously practiced the tricks from his vision on the wooden pole and as legend goes, defeated his opponents easily. Since then the art of Mallakhamb became rejuvenated and gained wide publicity and extensive popularity among the youth. Today, there are many types of Mallakhamb – pole, rope, hanging, niradhar (without support), Mallakhamb on bottles and cane Mallakhamb. However, at the competitive level only pole, rope and hanging Mallakhamb are performed. In the case of pole Mallakhamb, a vertical pole is fixed into the ground and the player performs gymnastics and yogasanas while balancing himself on the pole which is usually made of teakwood with castor oil rubbed over it whereas in hanging Mallakhamb the wooden pole is shorter in length than the standard pole and instead of being dug into the ground, it is suspended above it by hooks and chains. In rope Mallakhamb, no pole is used but instead, a rope is suspended from a support. A Mallakhamb gymnast is a called a ‘patu’. The male patu wears a langot and jangya while the girls wear a costume or gym suit. Sometimes shorts and T-shirts are permitted for girls. Besides being a visually appealing sport for spectators, the patu himself benefits tremendously from it and can achieve a very high level of fitness. The stamina, speed, strength, flexibility and concentration required for other sports are highly developed in Mallakhamb. Those practicing Mallakhamb have successfully participated in several competitive sports like diving, horse-riding and athletics at the National and International level. Mallakhamb is considered to be a perfect exercise because it is intermingled with various poses and postures of yoga. It is not hectic or jerky and gradually develops all the physical and mental faculties of the human body. The benefits of this training are innumerable. In all the other exercises, there is monotony, however Mallakhamb is a systematic, scientific and very methodical mode of physical exercise. It imparts proper tone and form to every muscle and perfect control over each part of the body. The grace and beauty are enhanced by the balanced and well-controlled transitions, turns, bends and coils. This exercise in particular stimulates the mind and builds the body. The controlled and rhythmic breathing and smooth balanced movements help a lot in developing the mental and physical faculties of our body. The magnificent display of artistic and difficult feats shows the value of patience coupled with deep concentration. It imparts adequate exercise to the sinews, joints and the vertebral column, thus ensuring perfect health and longevity. The arm-holds and the upper handgrips help to develop powerful wrists, strong forearms and muscular biceps and triceps. The clinging grips of the fingers, palms and toes render the nerves and muscles strong and powerful. The acrobatic nature of the

feats improves the sense of judgment and the hectic swings, jumps or somersaults promote toughness and fearlessness. By the hanging and swinging actions, neuromuscular co-ordination is enhanced. The light jerks and jumps gradually tone the lungs and improve the efficiency of the respiratory organs. The forward and backward bends during the display help to accomplish the healthy functioning of the kidney, spleen, liver pancreas and urinary systems. The balancing activities like lifting and resting the body at various angles tone the ligaments of the spine, vertebral column, knees, elbows, ankles, neck and shoulders. It is a note-worthy fact that the various movements or actions done in the course of a performance bestow good health and physique to the performer. It gives a perfect Herculean body with vigor; vitality and well-balanced functioning of routine activities. Even in the case of diseases or disorders like insomnia, anemia, chronic pains in the body, abdominal problems, kidney troubles, E.N.T. problems, headache, migraine, chronic bronchitis, chest pain, respiratory or lung troubles, rheumatism and other types of irregularities of hygienic disturbances, Mallakhamb proves to be of immense value. The Vishwa (International) Mallakhamb Federation and other such organisations have been undertaking tremendous promotional efforts in the form of state, national and International level competitions whilst district associations conduct district level competitions. Every year, university, inter-college and inter-school level competitions are also conducted by respective organisers. Efforts are being made to promote Mallakhamb not only in cities but also in rural and remote areas as well as abroad by Associations as well as Central Government. Participation for Mallakhamb competitions is increasing every year and more and more members of foreign Nationals are interested in learning Mallakhamb. International Mallakhamb Championships are being conducted for last 5 years in different countries viz. Argentina, Brazil, Portugal, Spain and Italy and recently, the 1st World Mallakhamb Championship was held in Mumbai in February 2019. Next championship is scheduled to be organized in New York, US in 2022. One can easily say from this rapid progress that soon Mallakhamb, the best traditional fitness sport of the country, will become a globally popular sports discipline. And now you can find classes for Mallakhamb all over India including Metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, Ujjain etc. Author : Aditya Mhaskar Contact - +91 97731 09872 Email – aditya.mhaskar79@gmail.com Instagram Profile – aditya.mhaskar79 About author : Aditya Mhaskar is a Certified International Mallakhamb Judge, performer, Mallakhamb Instructor and a Fitness Trainer. Interview with Prity Trikhaa Question. Why did you choose this profession? Answer: I love to play with colors. I found this profession suitable for myself since it allows a lot of creativity and complements my inborn knack for fashion and glamour. My eye-hand dexterity is also very good, which supports me a lot in the role. Question. Tell Me What Do You Love Most About Make Up? Answer:The never-ending boundless options – making someone look so different. Changing people’s image to suit their mood or moment. It’s endless. Question. Do You Know What Are Some Common Beauty Mistakes That Women Make? Answer:I often see great dabs of shimmery bronzer. It looks great on shoots and in very specific areas but some people circle it all over and you end up looking like an orange bauble. Not good! Less is more. Question. Tell Me What’s Your Favorite Makeup Brush? Answer:My favorite makeup brush is actually an eyebrow brush. It’s a giant soft version of the tiny hard angled ones you usually see, and it works great creating a full, luscious natural looking brow in one swipe. Question. What Is Your Favorite Quote? Answer: My fav quote is “Blending is my Cardio “ Question. Tell Me What Three Makeup Item Should No Woman Leave Home Without? Answer:Concealer, lip gloss, mascara. Question. How To Prepare Dry And Oily Skin For Foundation Makeup Application? Answer:Oily skin has to be toned before makeup application so that the pores are closed and makeup stays longer while dry skin has to be moisturized before makeup application to avoid cracks in foundation layer. Question. As You Know Today’s Woman Is Busier Than Ever. What Is The Easiest/quickest Way To Turn A Day/work Look Into Something That Works For Night Out? Answer:Lining your inner rim with a dark eyeliner is something I do to add “instant fierceness.” Black of course is a go-to, but you can also go for a great navy or plum to really brighten the eyes! Just make sure it’s waterproof and is approved for use on the inner rim. Question. Tell Me What Is the Most Important Beauty Advice That You Can Give To Women? Answer:Invest in your mind, body and soul. Shoes come and go, but your skin needs more than a yearly check-up. Invest in a good regular facial and nurture yourself with massages and quiet rest from time to time. Question. Tell Me What Are The Biggest Challenge Makeup Artists Have To Face? Answer: The biggest challenge I think is that makeup artists are required to remain up to date with new trends and fashion. The fashion industry evolves on daily basis and the expertise has to be upgraded accordingly.

17

Myself Anjana Kochar,

I’m dancing from last 12 years including my training and professional period. I started my dancing carrier in 2008 as hobby class at Natya Ballet Center in Indian contemporary after my schooling just for fun as I was preparing myself for engeenering entrance. And their I met professional dancer. After watching how dance are really involved into their life as professionally and personally , I get attracted towards it and started my training with professional dancer in Gurukul CHHAU Dance Sangam Institute with Chhau and Indian Contemporary. Both institute gave me good opportunity as beginners to perform in musicals at Shri Ram Center, Kamani auditorium, Shri Fort and many more. Mentors always helped me in all factors. At that time we was not used to have money to pay for our classes even. GCDS helped me with it for free cost of training . After few years I joined The Danceworx for jazz, contemporary training to work on my technique but it wasn’t easy to survive their as monetary or from family support. Forgot to tell you that I started my dancing carrier by going against to my family wish.So used to have lot of fights regarding the same while going for class or coming back to home.they forced me a lot to stop dancing and join some technical company as I have completed BCA - MCA.so they was like dancing is not life time thing being a girl u should be in official work , join some office , till when u can survive without earning nothing and having this gypsy life.By 2011 they was like u have to choose between family or dance. And I have no idea what should I do as there point of is also right but I also like don’t want to step back from dancing. I left dancing for few months but I was feeling something like is left behind in my life. So my friends suggested to join school so I stay connected with dancing only. I joined school as dance teacher so my family will get relaxed as I’m little settled n my life complication will get little less. It was good experience for 5 years to work with school kids as I can experiment anything with them. At that time I used to leave by 6 in the mrng from home den afternoon school I used to go for my training and for taking batches to The Danceworx 4 pm to 9pm as rule for company people. Sometime after classes we used to have shows or events rehearsal till mid night . At that time I used to sleep just for few 4 hrs for kind of 2 years. Then in 2013 I left The Danceworx and I joined kathak institute “Aangnikam” under the guidance of “Guru Ram Mohan ji” for 3 years. After 6 months of training I got opportunity to be part of Broadway Musical “Mughleazam” in Mumbai . That was the opportunity that took me to what I’m today. Being a part of the musical and match to the classical based dancer who all are dancing kathak from their childhood was challenging. I used to ask myself and cry why it’s not happening the way other are doing, why I’m not matching them , where I’m lacking , what should I do to reach their, many more questions. After a week I was like it’s not happening let’s go back to Delhi and say them no it’s not happening. But I don’t know what happened suddenly I changed my mind , no that’s the challenge of my life n I have to do it and dance next to the trained kathak dancer and prove myself as versatile dancer . And here I’m it’s been 4 years I’m part of the musical and travelling around the world nationally and internationally with it . Musical helped me a lot as grow as a dancer. After watching this musical my parents were so proud of me like they started introducing me as a dancer only to everyone that they used to hide before like she have done BCA -MCA . That musical gave me spotlight like I got some lucky charm in my life . But being a girl is always life comes with some challenges. one challenge is over other is on there way . Now as being in Indian family everyone is behind your marriage , when are you getting married ? Do you have any relationships? Many guys must be approaching ?? As I’m single so I am open to both love or arrange marriage.being occupied in work I won’t find time to find true love and frankly I got many offers but none of them seemed like serious about it , u know present life everyone is in time being relationship and I’m far from that point. and when u come to arrange marriage parents are like in our society no one will accept your carrier , u have gypsy life , u have to adjust or drop your carrier . So how dancing bringing Colors in my life . Moving on beats give me some other sort of nasha that nothing else can give me . It’s like u get habitual of it that u can’t leave if I want to be.there was a stage in my life few years back when I was so depressed , music n dance took me out of it. While practicing in studio we came into solo improvisation and I went so deep in it like I burst out with crying while dancing. I was moving all around n I’m just crying like hell. Den my trainer as my friend dint stopped me like he was let her take it out all the pain and in last he hugged me for next 10 min n I was continuously crying . So dance is just not a movement its a part of therapy that gives you a new path to find yourself, explore within yourself , change you as a person . So who I’m as a strong lady all because of my dancing.

itness and lifestyle - Well, have you ever thought of why these two are connected?

Lifestyle is the way of leading a life. It includes how a person thinks, walks, behaves, talks, eats, drinks, and how a person responds to and tackles the circumstances in his/her life. To do that, isn’t it necessary to have a balanced mind , stay fit and healthy? Of course YES. A healthy life is very important to be able to achieve your desires. If you are fit then no matter what but you will find a way out of any situation that comes in your life. Being fit and healthy is not limited to having a slim body or muscular strength, it means being physically and mentally strong, it means having good immunity and proper nutrition. As everyone says, nothing comes easy because the universe doesn’t work that way, and indeed it shouldn’t be; but to be honest, living a healthy life is not that hard. All we need is desire, correct direction, consistency and a little discipline. That’s all. The very first thing that people often misunderstood while talking about fitness is not “Starving”, Dieting is not not stay hungry but to take in required amount of protiens , vitamins , calcium , oxygen and water inside bosy. A helathy bosy is a happy mind. Having a balanced diet, rite exersice has plenty of advantages, like it keeps our body protected from non-communicable diseases, reduces the risk of chronic diseases, helps us maintain optimal body weight, increases immunity, and improves overall strength. Diet : right food at a right time lots of water (minimum 12-15 glass) coconut water everyday take fruits (one bowl) as meal once in a day breakfast and lunch should be healthy and dinner should be very light avoid milk tea if you are doing weightless add protein(meat, egg white, paneer) and fibre (banana, broccoli, carrots, sweet corns, peas etc) in your diet. finish your dinner by 8 pm sleep well and meditation minimum 5 min in a day

Another important aspect that connects fitness and lifestyle is the workout. ‘Workout everyday keeps the doctor away’. It is because exercising and engaging in physical activities delivers oxygen and nutrients to our body tissues which increase the efficiency of our cardiovascular system. But it has to be in our daily routine because consistency is the key to achieve the desired results, although we can’t deny the fact that the workout takes a bit of our energy and time but the results are worth it. Exercising strengthen our muscles, burns calories, increase our energy levels, boost our endurance, prevent us from unwanted health problems, promote better sleep, improve our sex life, reduce stress, and gives us mental peace. The best part is even the workout doesn’t always have to be boring or traditional, it can also be fun. There are different types of workouts, and the basic ones are Resistance exercises (these exercises causes the muscles to contract against an external force by lifting or pulling), Aerobic exercises (these are the exercises of going from low to high intensity in the presence of oxygen), Flexibility exercises (these exercises include stretching like Yoga, Pilates, etc), or we can combine all three as well to make a custom plan as per our suitability. The important thing is to understand the need for all these aspects that affect our overall health and it is time that we start working on it. Start treating your body like a holy place and the results will amaze you for sure.

Workout :

walk 30-40 min if you are not doing any other workout. do yoga 3 days in a week to make your body flexible do cardio 3 days in a week (aerobics, zumba etc for 30-40 min 1 day rest is necessary for your body. -Ms. MOUMITA DEY

Hi, I am Savreen. I am 22 years old. To be honest , I never thought about coming in this industry. It has always fascinated me though but being from Bihar, there were some restrictions in my family. So never planned; actually I was preparing for government jobs. Being school and college topper, people in Bihar assume you as a government aspirant only. Same was going with me and started preparing for that when I was in 12th grade, I have attempted once but didn’t clear for 2 Marks. Then I attended some classes thinking that might help me, but there was something else in my destiny, my marriage got fixed. I got married in my 2nd year of degree. And I came to Delhi. My husband and in laws are very much supportive. I was still on government jobs preparation. But then lock-

down and exams postponed and postponed. In between that, I got an offer in August 2020, for a makeup shoot. I was like , “yaar avi to exams aane h...pdhna v h.” And then my husband told me, “kar le n, kya ho gya” And I went for that makeup shoot, after that I got 2 3 more, and gradually more and more, and in 1 month of that, I realised this is what makes me happy, and my husband told me do this then, do what makes you happy not what the norms say. And here I am today, I have done more than 15 bridal shoots till now. In November 2020, I joined DCT agency and I am really happy that I got to know about them. The guidelines are very important in this industry.

The true meaning of valentine’s day

According to me the true meaning of valentine’s day is feeling loved and reciprocating that love to people around whom our lives revolve.. It is vry important to make those people feel important and special and make them feel that they mean the world to us but, according to me, designating a specific day to it is not true justice to the meaning of love. We must make sure to show our love and affection towards our special ones. Valentine’s day is celebrated mostly and popularly amongest couples..and it’s shown through gifts and flowers. We must respect and show love to our family, friends and even partners throughout the year and not specifically wait for this day. I dnt mean to hurt or offend the feelings of those people who actually wait for this day or celebrate it with great pomp nd show..but it should not just be limited to one single day.. It is vry important to make sure that the people around us feel wanted and loved everytime they feel they are stuck in thier lives and need a push. As, this place is a very cruel place to be and it is only through love that we can build that brigde. Lastly, this world is nothing beyond love and compassion. So, always be in love and make others feel the love

WHY YOU NEED A MENTOR-

by tapas das Why you need a Mentor ? Looking for a boost in your modelling career? Find yourself a mentor -- or let one find you. A mentor is that one person who can guide you, help you, take you under his or her wing, and nurture your career quest. What separates a mentor from the average network contact is long-term commitment and a deep-seated investment in your future. Where a typical network contact might be associated with quick introductions, exchanges of business cards, and phone calls, your relationship with a mentor likely involves long lunches and time spent in the mentor’s office. A mentor is often in a position you’d like to be in and has the clout and connections to guide you to a similar position. He or she is someone you probably have unusually good chemistry with who will share stories with you of his or her own climb to success. An effective mentor isn’t afraid to criticize constructively.

International male model

of the month Benjamin

Hello

, my name is Benjamin, I am a French model who went to India for six months with the Posh talent agency, this experience allowed me to work for tommy Hilfiger and Adidas. Beyond modeling, I loved the Indian mentality, everyone is benevolent. In addition, the small part of India that I had the chance to visit was incredibly sumptuous. The taj mahal particularly marked me as my performances were based on films. I would like to one day return to live in India and why not as a model. Today I returned to France after traveling with modeling. In these difficult times of covid 19, modeling is on stand by but I still do photo shoots.

Mirays journey from istanbul to uk

For me,

it all started with an interest, then it turned into a curiosity ending becoming a professional make up artist. I’m a translator and a make up artist from İstanbul, Turkey. Writing you about make up. This is about how to apply makeup in general. Less is more. The key words; tiny amount, blending, tiny amount, blending and building it up... and little touches. I always loved natural make up, just to make up your skin look a bit better than it normally is. Always clean your face before doing your make up, then use a moisturiser according to your skin type and weather conditions. Try to use different creams during winter and summer. A good base is the most important factor of the makeup and what I can advise you to do while applying your daily make up; whether you are using your hands or a brush, instead of trying to cover all your face with tons of foundation try to use a tiny bit of your own choosing (could be a light coverage, full or medium coverage - size of a green pea) For daily makeup this is more than enough, then if needed use a concealer for under eyes and blemishes, and then blend the rest. You could also use a foundation with a good coverage. But never, ever, ever use the same brush for under eyes and on your blemishes. If you don’t want to do a lot of makeup and look better, try to you can mix a tiny amount of foundation or sometimes even concealer with your moisturizer. Every woman has her own routine, to me as a make up artist the most important thing is cleaning your make up before sleeping. Other essential tips for make up: • Don’t use make up removal wipes unless you have to. Always wash your face. Micellar water and makeup removal oils are the best. • Clean your brushes and sponges regularly. Hygiene matters. • Have at least one good mascara - high end quality ones, for occasions. But use drugstore ones for daily makeup - and change them frequently, throw them away after three months - mascaras are prone to bacteria. • During winter, or if you are living in a cold city don’t use moisturizers – instead, use face oils. • Use sun blocks at least with a 30 SPF during summer. • As for the eyeshadows have at least a palette with natural tones, browns, copper, ivory with a little bit of shimmer. If you did a matte shadow and feeling that it doesn’t look good, use a little bit of shimmery copper shadow on top, you are going to see the difference. • If you are doing an eyeliner, try to do the hard side at first - I’m a lefty so it’s easier for me to do my right eye, therefore I do my left eye at first and then it would be easier for me to match the other eye. • Try to drink a lot of water! At least 2 litres / day. Hydration is the key. • Eat well. • Sleep well. Sending you lots of love. Miray Filiz

female model of the month Daniela Caruso Daniela Caruso – Italian model with over 10 years of experience. I am from Sicily, but I live in the north of Italy. I started this job almost 12 years ago, when Instagram and the help of social networks didn’t even exist. I started this passion/job by accident, it was a period when I was looking for a job after I got my degree in accounting and posted online saying that I was looking for a job, along with a small photo. A photographer contacted me, asking to pose for him. Hesitantly, I went to the photograph service. I must say that I was nervous, but happy, I can’t deny that I started liking after some shots. So, for about a month I went there once a week to be shot by this photographer. After some shots, I realized that it was an interesting environment and that I would deepen my study on posing and expression, so I took a course to learn it. From that moment, I started shooting in other sets in the region, then, having demands in Italy, and then, in other countries. For me, more than a job, photography is an art. I see that nowadays the photography culture and the will to learn has decreased and, unfortunately, I see this a lot. But I always try to keep making the same efforts in my job. Briefly, this is how I started this beautiful journey. I would like to thank you for publishing it and wish you the best. Daniela Carus

Daniela Caruso

@sabrina_bogatova

Istarted

my modeling career accidentally. My sister took part in region beauty pageant 6 years ago and she invited me to come and to support her. There were a lot of girls who wanted to be a part of this competition. Then one woman approached me and asked do I also want to try. Then I realized that this woman was a model agent. That time I was really scared and I never thought that I m beautiful enough for it. But suddenly I decided that why not, it was a great possibility to prove myself that I can do it, even though I was too shy and hadn’t enough experience. It was my lottery ticket to model life. I did not win, but I had great opportunity as after this beauty pageant agency offer me international contracts to such kind of countries as China, India, Italy, Japan. So with modelling my life changed a lot: travels, new people, work for designers, fashion shows. I m really grateful that I m a part of it.

A

Conversation with Preacher Photography Who is Preacher? I’ve been a Toronto-based photographer/videographer for over 12 years. I’m passionate about film and storytelling. I’m constantly looking for unique ways to bring a cinematic flair to my work; which leans more on the glamour and boudoir side. What attracted you to glamour/boudoir photography? That would be the late photographer, Helmut Newton. He portrayed his female subjects as undeniably fearless and sexually powerful. His art pushed boundaries because it was unapologetically provocative, but no matter how much Newton might disrupt your sensibilities, you can’t deny the beauty of his art. His iconic and rebellious work deeply inspire my creative vision. How would you describe your style of photography? Fierce. I prefer to capture strong and bold women. I’m not into shooting female vulnerability. In duo shoots with both a man and woman, I portray the woman as more dominant because we always see it the other way around. There’s a stark difference between glamour photography and fashion photography. In glamour photography, the model often times exudes… excuse my language… “fuck me” eyes. Their sole purpose is to titillate the viewer. In Fashion, it’s the opposite. The model radiates “fuck you” eyes. “Fuck you. You can’t have me. You can’t afford my clothes or my lifestyle.” I’d like to bring that “fuck you” vibe to glamour photography. I want men and women to look at the models in my photos and think: “I don’t want to mess with her.” Yes, the model may be wearing lingerie, but her attitude is telling you that she’s a force to be reckoned with. What’s a shoot like with Preacher? I always try to provide a great experience. I think it’s important to get to know themodel before shooting. One question I always ask is: “What story do you want to tell with your photos?” Most of the time the answer is: “I want to look confident and strong.” That’s what I always strive to do. I’m thrilled to see the model’s look of excitement when we scroll through the photos together. I provide a lot direction because I want the photos to look extraordinary — something worthy to be in a magazine. If you were at a photoshoot and no one can tell that from looking atyour photos, then it wasn’t a photoshoot. I think a lot of models appreciate my passion.

Name: Frankie, Instagram: @frankiekennedytv Photography Instagram: @preacher_photography

How do you set yourself apart from other glamour/boudoir photographers? I love creativity and storytelling and I always try to infuse both into my work. I recently shot a tribute video to Madonna’s iconic Justify My Love. It centres on a man and woman competing for the affections of Madonna. There’s skin and erotic themes. We’ve pushed the limits as much as Instagram would allow. We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback and Instagram didn’t ban us — so it was a success. How has your photography been impacted by the pandemic? Strangely, it changed for the better. I was locked down in my apartment for the first 15 weeks. I didn’t go out or shoot. During that time, I finished designing my photography website and I brainstormed many creative ideas. You learn a lot about yourself when you’re alone for so long. I learned that my creativity is a driving force in my life. I’ve grown to appreciate photography more. It’s such an honour and privilege to meet and create something beautiful with someone you haven’t met before. I took that for granted before the pandemic. I think we all took a lot of things for granted. What are some tips you would like to share to aspiring photographers who want to get into glamour/boudoir photography? First and foremost, respect the art form and the models. If you’re getting into glamour or boudoir to get off on shooting nude models, it’s going to show in your work. When you don’t respect the art or the models, your photography will look awkward and amateurish. You lose all control of composition because you’re lusting after their bodies and they’ll pick up on that. Models will look uncomfortable in photos if they’re creeped out by photographers. So respect the art form and the models. That is most important. And here’s another tip I strongly recommend in boudoir: When giving direction or discussing themes with the model, avoid asking closed-ended questions with “yes” or “no” answers. I prefer asking open-ended questions because I want to know how the model truly feels. For instance, if you’re asking the model to shoot implied nudes, avoid asking: “Are you OK shooting implied nudes?” Instead, consider asking: “How do you feel about shooting implied nudes?” That way you can truly gauge how they feel about it and go from there. Always put their comfort before any photo.
