MY SURVIVAL STORY Garima was born in Bhopal. Grew up in different coastal cities of India as her father was in Indian Navy. She Pursued her early stage of her career as Physiotherapist and was living life at 36000 feet in Seattle in 2005. Due to a sudden tragedy with her husband’s demise she came back to India and restarted her career in Mumbai at Qi Gym. Her successful journey from a small room in Gym to 21 clinics today and still growing speaks a lot for the battles she has fought. She has been a founding member and also played a key role in growth of Qi Spine Clinic. It has been a journey of 15 years. Soon they are launching in US market in 2023.

Photography : @rahulbhole_photography MUA : @neeruphasu Event : @munporg

She got remarried in Dec 2009 in hope for a new beginning in personal life. However not all stories are a fairy tale. She was mentally and physically abused by her husband. The harassment continued taking a toll on her mental peace leading to depression and anxiety. Being a loving, supporting wife and a mother, She tried her best to keep the family for 10 years. From 2019 the situation got worse. During the tough times of COVID lockdown her clinics were operating at very low capacity. And the company was paying minimal salary. During these difficult times her husband did not support her monetarily. She single handed managed all the expenses and took care of her son’s basic needs, while maintaining home and clinic’s expenses.

His behaviour kept changing rapidly. She could have recognised earlier and retaliated accordingly, but when you’re inside a situation it’s hard to get a perspective. However during the lockdown, matters became worse. Being a victim of domestic violence, she decided to separate from her husband and his ongoing mental and physical abuse on her. During these testing times she got a severe anxiety attack. She could not function, stand, walk or do the daily chores. Spot'less Fashion Magazine| August 2022 | Issue 56 @spot'lessfashionmagazine

Page 3

It took 4 months of medication and relentless support from her family to get back to normal. Her family stood by her during her tough times being fuel for her motivation to keep going. Being a single mother she wanted to live for her son Jeet. Her son played a pivotal role in helping her bounce back to life. With a never back down attitude, she is back in action. During lockdown she decided to fuel her modelling passion, a dream she always had but couldn’t pursue. She took the decision to go ahead with it alongside her clinical work. Tough decision calls for tough measures making it difficult to balance both worlds but, when there is a will there's a way. She kept working on it, keeping her passion alive, to prove women are meant to fly high. Hunger for success and passion for her dream led to one after the other achievements. Being privileged to walk the ramp for IFW Goa and various other Pageants she kept growing. Leading to modelling for many International clothing brands. Also as a JURY to the United Nations Pageant. She is soon launching her own Premium beach wear fashion label named ‘ Rangrez ‘by S.H.A.G. Email Id- rangrezbyshag@gmail.com Instahandle -@rangrezbyshag Facebook - @rangrezbyshag Website – www.rangrezbyshag.com “The first time somebody asked me to talk about what happened, it was hard. It’s hard every time. But if it changes one life, it matters to me. Domestic violence is such a personal issue and it’s a secret. We must get people to understand that they’re not in it by themselves. They are not alone. We can fight back, we can change, we can bring the difference for own peace and happiness. Don’t be ashamed to ask for help. It’s your Right. To sing my voice to break the silence against domestic violence was difficult but getting my life back has been worth it”

Tough Times don’t define you, they refine you.

Hello! I am Jyoti Agarwal (Jo) from Mumbai, raised in a boarding school and moved to Bangalore for my further studies and during covid I came back to my city and that where it all started.. here we go !

Well, where do I start from, This was a personal journey which led me towards the fame game and I must say It’s a roller coaster ride. It all started when I was casted for a small roll in a serial for Sony 'Tara from Satara'. I wasn’t happy with the way I appeared on screen and me coming from a zero background from this field did drop my confidence which I never lacked. That one camera experience changed me and motivated me to drop down my weight and work on myself to look presentable and match upto the confidence that I alway carry. Fashion, dance, acting isn’t new to me as I have alway enjoyed the entertainment industry, well now that I am a part of it, it's all the more exciting to work towards my dream and hopefully make it a successfully one. I love cooking and learning new recipes and dance is love. I can self choreograph when it comes to music. I would love to walk in a Manish Malhotra outfit some day, something that’s on my do list. Currently, I am doing theatre and have done a music video for Zee and anchoring for a beauty pageant. Traveling is one of the things I enjoy as well. I like my space and love what I do, have done a few concept shoots. Fashion to me is anything that you are comfortable in, if you ain't comfortable it's going to make you look like a fashion disaster. I don’t put in much effort in dressing up unless it is for an event or some occasion but I do my style and I will carry it in style if it suits my comfort. One should believe in themselves to rise and shine.

Deana Dia

@deanadiaofficial

ACTOR

Pandemic has made actor Deana Dia realise the importance of having an alternate income, especially due to unpredictability nature of the glamour industry. The actor tells,

“It has not been an easy journey. Struggle is something everyone goes through but pandemic turned things upside down. However, like I have always done, I just went with the flow. But, I can’t complain and now things are moving on right track.” Seen in film Jannat2, music videos and on TV, she started as an air hostess and then dabbled in modelling, followed by acting. Dia says things got a bit messed up after pandemic broke in.

“There were some good projects that got shelved even after the contract had been signed. For 10 months, I was in Delhi without work and that’s when I started a healthy food venture with my sister, a nutritionist. After most of my savings got exhausted, I understood the importance of second income. But, now I am back to work while my sister is taking the venture forward, while I am supporting her from the back-end,” she says.

She is now gearing up to shoot a feature film.

“I am starting my next Devbhoomi directed by Vikas Phadnis. The story is based on a relationship set in the backdrop of Chaar Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. There are four girls playing parallel lead and I am one of them and looking forward to shoot in the beautiful Himalayas,” she tells.

“After working as cabin crew for over a year, I then started modelling which I continued for five years. In between, I got audience for a cameo in Jannat-2, where I played girlfriend to Emran Hashmi. After shifting to Mumbai, I did daily soap Kasam Tere Pyar Ki (2018),” she says.

Now, Dia is happy to be back with work.

“I shot for two songs during pandemic. I featured in Jis Waqt Tera Chehra opposite Karan Kundra that we shot in Dubai. It was sung by Amit Mishra and Tarannum Malik. My second song Gal Karle opposite Nishat Malkhani has been sung by Dev Negi. I did a short film related to the pandemic. I hope my feature film Lovescope, that we shot in 2019, will also Diarelease says. soon,”

"

Spot'less Fashion Magazine| August 2022 | Issue 56 @spot'lessfashionmagazine

A lot of people don’t understand pageantry. It is more than just beauty. You have to be able to answer questions, discover your strengths and perfect them, realize your weaknesses and transform them into strengths. It is about empowering women

"

Anjali Rao also shared the knowledge and experience she gained during her journey from the pageant.

" "

Being in a pageant teaches you to be confident and to love yourself. It is a way to enjoy some healthy competition and promote good causes. Pageantry teaches personality development, communication skills, confidence and stress management. These skills help the participants to carve out their own path in life. Participating in a prestigious beauty pageant can open a flood-gate of opportunities. Beauty pageants such as this are a test of the combination of beauty and brain. The contestants also need to demonstrate their intellectual capacity in such competitions.

" "

- Anjali says

Since winning the titles, I have been busy with multiple projects, fashion shows, calendar shoots. The journey has just begun!

- she added

She is also an active volunteer at Govt. schools, helped and donated to Government schools in Bangalore. Fabio Acquarone @acquarone_fabio

PHOTOGRAPHER

Good Morning friends! My name is Fabio Acquarone and I am Italian, I live in Imperia, one of the 4 provinces of Liguria. I have always loved to photograph so 8 years ago I started studying it seriously. First the history of photography then the technique and finally the post-production. I really like photographers like Platon, Erwitt, LaChapelle, Adams, but my absolute favorite is Oliviero Toscani for his energy charge and for the messages that his photographic projects have been able to reach not only our eyes but our consciences, I would dare to say. I have a private practice of my own called Baal. I photograph with a Nikon z6ii and my favorite lens is the 50mm, a goal that allows me to communicate normally with the model in order to create that intellectual and emotional journey that must never be missing in my shootings.

As I have always said and it is my motto: "Not photographs, but a trip! " I have been published in about 25 print magazines and 10 online magazines, obtaining the cover 3 times. Follow me and give me lots of likes and comments on my instagram @acquarone_fabio. As you will see I prefer portraits but sometimes, I also like to photograph some landscapes and in this regard I also tell you that one of my photos was chosen by the archeology department of the University of Genoa to be shown in the Naval Museum of Imperia. I hope some of you contact me to come and shoot with me.

MAKEUP ARTIST

Page 43

The Inside Scoop I'm Jeet Kaur, a 42-year-old mother of two children who works as a freelance makeup artist and salon owner. Today I'm going to take you on my journey full of ups and downs. I began working in the beauty and hair industry in the year 2000, with no prior experience. I was at a difficult phase of my life where I needed to be self-sufficient in order to support my family and meet my essential needs. My son was just two years old when I had to leave him at day care, which was painful for me, but I had no option. I began my career with Shahnaz Husain Academy, where I completed a basic beautician course. After a time, I became interested in learning more, so I enrolled in advanced courses such as skin therapy, hair colouring, straightening, and make-up course, which was highly advanced at the time. After a year of learning and practising, I was given the opportunity to join Shahnaz Husain, which I joyfully accepted. Everything was new to me since it was my first job, and I was nervous but excited to start this new chapter in my life. This transition was hard, fascinating, and full of new experiences, and I was overwhelmed by a slew of emotions. I will always be grateful to my mum since it was only because of her that I was able to take this major step in my life.

Spot'less Fashion Magazine| August 2022 | Issue 56 @spot'lessfashionmagazine

THE MOTHERDAUGHTER DUO

During my time with Shahnaz Husain, I had the opportunity to work on many types of skin and hair, which was an intriguing experience. I learned a lot of things that we can only learn via real experience. As my son grew older and my responsibilities to him increased, so in the year 2004 I decided to quit my job and open my own home-based beauty salon. Everything was going great, but life had other plans for me. I lost my mother, which broke me down from the inside as she was my biggest support system, but I had to be strong for my family. When my mother passed away, my father moved in with us, but he was dissatisfied with me running home-based beauty salon as we are Sikhs. I had to close my salon, start a new job, and a few years later, in 2013, with the support of a friend, I opened my tiny full-service parlour.

Page 27

Throughout everything, I was blessed with my daughter, who came into my life as an angel and gave me the strength to work harder. Before 2013, there was a point when we couldn't meet our basic essentials. Whenever I reflect back on that time, it makes me sad but also gives me courage and inspiration to go forward. My spouse and children have always been there for me. I've been running my own parlour for about ten years, and throughout that time I've developed wonderful relationships with my staff and clients, some of whom have become my friends. I also registered in new courses and attend various seminars to stay current with the latest trends. I did professional trainings from VLCC, Blossom Kochhar, and Cory Walia. In 2018, I received certification from the Makeup Studio Amsterdam academy, where I finished the advanced makeup course and learned about new forms of makeup. And in 2019, I did advance hairstyling course with renowned hairstylist. Everything appeared to be going well; things were returning to normal, and the advent of Covid in 2020 had an impact on my family's financial status. The government ordered the closure of all salons/parlours, and because of the lockdown, my husband was unable to go to work; we were surviving on our savings and my son's income. It was a horrible period not only for us, but for the entire world; everyone lost someone in their lives as a result of COVID. So, after the limitations were lifted, I reopened my salon, but people were too afraid to come due to COVID, and it became hard for me to thrive. But, surprisingly during that lockdown, my 15-year-old daughter took an interest in makeup. She started watching make-up tutorials, trying it on her own, and seeing me do clients' make-up, and she quickly got quite excellent at it. She started performing make-up on clients and had wonderful feedback, which drove her to improve, so she started attending seminars and online short-term courses where instructors were pleased with her performance and boosted her confidence. She quickly rose to the position of youthful make-up artist. In May 202, as a makeup artist, we were given the opportunity to participate in an exceptional model pageant event. It was our first event as a makeup artist, and it was honestly the finest experience. We met so many wonderful people, especially Tapas Das sir, who organised the event. He and his team recognised our work, and he has been mentoring us ever since to grow. He is a wonderful Guru, mentor, and gentleman. Following our first event, my daughter and I have participated in numerous fashion shows, runways, and photoshoot events as mother-daughter make-up artists. We been awarded and appreciated by the organisers and participants. Our experience has been fantastic. There have been many ups and downs in my life, but it is my family's support and the decisions I took at each of those times that have helped form what I have accomplished. My road is not over; there are still many challenges to accomplish, but this time I will not be alone; my daughter will be there with me as my partner, my team, and my support system. I also wish her all the success she deserves, and I believe she will become a fantastic person and a biggest makeup artist one day. There is one thing I have learned throughout my life that

“Life is difficult, but it will also provide us with opportunities to improve it. It is up to us whether we choose to try or not” Spot'less Fashion Magazine| August 2022 | Issue 56 @spot'lessfashionmagazine

HELLO THERE, READER! My name is Shilajit Sengupta (a.k.a "Kreem"). I am a software developer and a fashion/portrait photographer based out in India. Photography was never something I preferred to have neither as a passion nor a profession until my friend suggested that I try photography in case I wish to travel (really don't know what a high end camera has to do with travelling).

I started with a beginner level mirrorless camera with few basic lenses for landscape photography during vacations. I immediately fell in love with the concepts around Aperture, Exposure, Use of lights, positioning of the subjects, etc. and went through several youtube videos of renowned photographers to learn more about the subject. I got inclined towards portrait / fashion photography eventually. The journey of my fashion photography began by collaborating with budding models and designers, attending several workshops and tutorial sessions. It pushed me to flex my creative muscles as well as to connect with new people. I realized how important it is to connect with your subjects emotionally to bring out their best in the photos. Communication is one of the most important things when it comes to portraiture.

I prefer to follow my heart, my passion, keeping up the hard work and enhancing my learning. My mantra is to PRACTICE, PRACTICE & PRACTICE. Four years into the industry, I feel grateful when people approach me and trust my work. Some of my work got published in a few magazines like TopShot, Con etc. I consider myself blessed to be able to contribute with my work and be a part of another person’s journey.

There's a poet in me.

"I am very fun loving and talkative by nature but at the same time there's a poet in me who is very sensitive about many things which is clearly reflected in my poetries." Similarly, I also like to compose humorous poetry. In hostel time, my every friend use to ask me to write a poetry for them on their birthday. And I feel that was my achievement also. Today, I'm quite happy whatever happened or is happening in my life but there's still a lot to be achieved and a lot to be experienced.

Light Painting With Abhishek Goswami

- By Mridula As a magazine we had the pleasure of working with the “Vision Master” Abhishek Goswami. He is a very talented artist who has the capability to create magic through his lens. When it comes to concept photography he is the best, as he is a quite observer and have abilities to implement all of that experience to depict it all as a visual expressive outcome. His passion to create a beautiful concept is commendable. This time he gave us a delightful surprise by choosing “LIGHT PAINTING” method. As always he has created magic in his still images, which is very rare and that makes him different from other photographers. Like always, getting to know the process of his creativity is very interesting and helps us understand the techniques behind his beautiful creations.

Why did you choose “LIGHT PAINTING” for this edition and what story dose all the pictures tell? “LIGHT PAINTING” is one of my favourite method to express a story/ set of emotions/philosophy in a picture. Every different picture may tell a different story as per the photographer’s vision and zeal to express. It depends up on the various emotions, mood, use of props, set, ambience, space, elements composing the frame & the most important: path of light & its effects during the capture. For an example, in this shoot one of the picture I captured tells about the emotion full of materialistic desires & its outcomes at the same time, which contains aggregation, greed & a disastrous chaos as an outcome which is full of grudge & a never ending suffering which is very far from peaceful state of mind.

What are the necessary things to keep in mind while planning for a “LIGHT PAINTING”? A lot of things one have to keep in mind when using LIGHT PAINTING method which are:

A proper predetermined vision. Applicable space & environment Required equipments, subject, props and set of skills & understanding of lights. Proper guidance to the models (skilled) as per the requirement for the theme. Enthusiastic approach for execution. A sense of 3 dimensional aspects within the space which is given to be captured.

Page 46

What is the most preferred camera setting that you used to get this kind of beautiful pictures? There could be various camera settings as per the required theme and available set, space, equipments & skills of models & the professional who is going to use the light source/s in the frame during the capture. For example: Here I have mostly used a long exposure of sensor, let’s say around 10 seconds and I preferred the light play during that 10 seconds time with in the frame and all that captured at the same time as a movement of light as per desired path to express as closest to what I wanted to create as an outcome. As the 10 seconds exposure could make sensor absorb so much light, so the aperture is as low (higher f number) as applicable and flash lights strength should be set accordingly. ISO setting was at the minimal level too; as I wanted to avoid unnecessary brightness in the frame.

How do you select the composition and necessary elements for making the outcome very expressive? Composition are designed as per the story we want to tell. Here I used relevant props, models, background and set accordingly to let myself go with in the available space to paint the light as per the desired path of light getting depicted & being captured at the same time. It is designed in such a way that the subject of the story should be located & highlighted at the point of attention to make it aesthetic and thus meaningful. Here light path\effects in the capture are done in a manner so that that can express further which couldn’t be expressed via words or any props or elements in a still outcome. Like a memory, mood, emotions, set of actions & consequences and overall a story captured in a still vision.
