ribal roots of India

Conceptual photography is always more than just a portrait of the subject. It must express an idea or a message that should be strongly conveyed with still image itself. Concept shoot is centred on emotions and tells us a complete story in just an image. When the opportunity was presented by the editor of “Spotless Fashion Magazine” to Abhishek Goswami to work on a concept photoshoot with full creative freedom for the magazine with 4 models who were selected to represent Delhi for a prestigious beauty pageant “1st Miss India”. He felt like to showcase the rise of strong feminine power which can represent the real essence of our deep roots of us which could be seen in tribal India. As we know this land always has given birth to strong females. Portrait of Tribal India with 4 strong women seemed like the right choice. In the ancient times when women were considered a power source not only for nurturing but also for protecting the clans from invasions and other natural disasters. It is also why females are still considered as “Shakti” in our culture. If we dive deep into our ancient history we would see so many strong females (be it queens or leaders) who stood beside their Kings or rulers for what they believed ideologically and protected their people. It could be said the females helped in building a strong civilization. The whole team under Abhishek Goswami believed and worked hard to represent the real soul of Tribal India but with a fusion of little modern touch. We want our audience to feel the connection with our roots to ancient Tribal India and to see the beauty and glory of it. The images create a rich experience for us to feel the rich history of India and feel the power of women in creating a better and strong society. We in our magazine have great regards for an imaginative artist like Abhishek Goswami to be associated with our “Spotless Fashion

Magazine” family. Let’s try and understand the process behind creating such astonishing artworks with every picture captured. 0. What did you visualized to create this time? As an artist, I always wanted to represent our rich Indian Tribal roots and this time when I was presented with the opportunity to work with 4 beauty pageant models it felt like a great concept to work upon. As me and my team created a Fusion Tribal theme, so that it would be easy for our young generation to connect with our ancient root and see strong empowered women. I wanted to exhibit the boldness of our Indian roots. This concept also illustrates empowered women and their strength and skills in building our civilization that has a deep root in our culture. This concept felt like the right fit for it. 1. What was your imagination when you choose the concept of Tribal India? My plan was to represent 4 different models in 4 different tribal backgrounds with different set of skills and other expertise in regards to the given aspect of the concept. For an example: One of our beautiful model is portrayed as an expert in weaponry as she is a solider. When we look at our second model she is lost in the world of creativity as she is an artist(musician). Let’s talk about our third model, she is in a character who is a strong leader and a strategist. As India is the land of spiritual enlightenment and our fourth character yogini beautifully portraits that aspect of a highly spiritually enlightened women of our ancient roots. 2. How did you plan to imply the concept? The plan begins by making notes and writing down all the required elements for the final visuals as per the subject to get depicted. This process includes making sketches of the design related to the set, outfits and then collecting the required raw materials for it. Then we also need to visualize the required makeup as per the concept and securing the required materials to imply for showcasing the final outcome with full authenticity. Technical applications: 1. How did you select the elements required for this shoot? There could be infinite counts of elements which could be included to represent the real essence of the concept, but we have to select only those elements which could be assembled and could be put into the composition with practical implications. For an example: It is almost impossible to create an entire village in your studio but you can manipulate by using little elements which could be a part of the whole construction and could create an illusion of the real site and ambience, if applied creatively in the composition would give the real essence of the ambience that we want to create. 2. How did you plan the design of the set for the desired output? When it comes to set designing, for each & every model and for every other posture, the elements of the composition are replaced as the related desired essences of the concept. For an example: When I have to depict a woman for a particular tribal background, who is an expert is some skill or in art(music in this case), I will have to design the set with related elements like a musical instrument or related accessories in the foreground or background as per the aesthetic aspect of the composition. 3. How do you choose a posture and expression to make the picture more expressive? I always guide the model to be in the character which has to be portrayed for the related concept. After a few trials when a posture strikes most, I stick to it and work on the other elements and aspects of the visual accordingly. The expression on the face must be related with the posture for the given scene and story behind the concept. All of this helps to create a more expressive outcome. 4. How do you plan and imply lights in your picture? Lights are the most crucial aspects of any vision. I always alter and manipulate the lights accordingly with each and every particular posture\expression\set, that is required to create the philosophy\story\emotion in the visual. My work style is not like “ one size fits all". 5. How do you select a particular lens for the desired picture and what camera setting do you prefer? Lens: First I visualize the composition, then I plan the related visual aspects for depicting it via appropriate tools to create the required emotion\ambience\value in the pictures as per the concept. For an example: If I plan to showcase the strength\vastness\dynamic movements in the subject or ambience I will use highly wide-angle lens to give it the required perspective. Another example can be, if I want to make a particular subject standing out from all the other implied elements of the composition then I will use a lens with a bigger aperture most probably not a highly wide-angle lens. Camera setting: It is the last step of manipulation to create the desired outcome and these are altered frequently for each and every other composition or each and every slightest change in the frame being captured to express the required story\concept\emotions. For an example: If I want to express a movement in the given visual , may be I would imply it via manipulating the exposer time.

urga Puja: Durga puja is the celebration, that marks the victory of Goddess “Durga” against the shape shifting Assura knows as “Mahishasura”. The festival epitomizes the victory of good over evil. Visually what we see is Goddess Durga killing Mahishasura using her Trishul (trident). This is a common story that we have heard from our ancestors that “good always wins over evil”. Abhishek Goswami has a very interesting take on this story and the concept that he has created for the photoshoot would make you think in a different direction. He relates Durga as “Mind & Soul” and Mahishasura as “Ego”. Also, the weapon Trishul has a in-depth meaning in his eyes. Trishul is a weapon with 3 heads, which represents holiness and good deeds, he also feels the 3 head of the Trishul portrays Past, Present and Future of our lives. Only a genius like him can think and imagine that each and every element has a meaning. The story from his point of view is that “We need to kill our ego”, to live a life filled with peace & progress. Let’s dig deep into his understanding, as we all have heard the story of Mahishasura, that he was blessed by Lord Brahma with mortality that no Male would be able to kill him and he can transform in a buffalo at anytime he wants. As per, Abhishek, the buffalo represents strength and alter ego of being stubborn, and at time stubbornness hurts people around you. So, an enlightened soul (Davi Durga) can kill his or her own ego (Mahishasura) in every phase of life be it Past, Present or Future. The story behind this beautiful picture is that you have to work on killing your ego, in the past, in present it’s a continues process and we need to have a firm control on our ego in the future. We have to be prepared to kill our ego. This is what is depicted in this beautiful artwork, an enlighten soul able to control his or her ego with the “Shakti” or power of his or her willingness. Abhishek has given a new meaning to and old legendary story. He has actually simplified the deep meaning of it. His vision would really help our younger generations to find a definition and understand the symbolism in all our mythology and legendary stories.

hunachi Nritya: The phase “Pujo Elo!” has a deep and significant meaning in every Bengali’s life. It marks the triumph of good over evil and that’s why Durga Pujo is celebrated with high sprite. This festival is also referred as “Sharodotsave” (as is Sharod means autumn) or Durgotsav too. As we all know Durga Pujo celebrates the power of “Shakti’’. We are all ready to welcome Maa Durga and engage in all the traditions related to the festival. The dance associated with this is knows as Dhunachi Naach which is performed in front Maa Durga. It is a prominent and most awaited activity during the festival. This involves Devotees dancing for Maa Durga’s aarti, with the rhythmic beat of Dhak. Dhunachi is a clay stem, filled with burning coal coconut husk and incense. Dancers holds two or even three Dhunachi at once, and twirl their way into a swirling motion. The dancers are accompanied by beats of dhak, marks a beautiful performance to watch. This dance is performed to thank Goddess Durga for her blessing. Among Bengalis, Dhuno is considered a purifier, that’s a big reason why it is offered to Gods. It purifiers the air and brings positivity in the environment. Pandals or pujo committee host Dhunachi or aarti competitions, where the performers would participate and make the festival even more beautiful. The aarti or Dhunachi Naach is spectacle and it keeps you on the edge. The performance Is unique phenomenon, equal parts fierce and beautiful. In the ancient times, only men use to perform the traditional dance, but over time, women have also joined the celebration. Today, the celebration of Durga Pujo would be incomplete without a beautiful performance Of Dhunachi Naach.

indoor Khela:Durga puja is the biggest festival for any Bengali who waits all year long for the five days of festivities. Vijaya Dashami, being the last day of the festival, it hence a sombre occasion when Goddess Durga is bid adieu for a year. It’s a day when people feel sad and an emotional scene can be seen all around, there is a special group of people religiously waits for the day. Women wait for this day and it is they who gets the chance to show their love and affection towards Maa Durga. Generally, all the puja traditions are done by the pandits, this chance to bid farewell to Maa Durga makes the common folks connected and happy. After the “Ghat Visarjan”, a symbolic immersion of Durga declaring the end of the Puja rituals, women apply sindoor, on the forehead and feet of Goddess and offer sweets to Maa Durga and her family. After that begins sindoor khela, then women among themselves playfully smear sindoor on each other’s face. Sindoor khela is celebrated by Bengali women. Traditionally this ritual is meant for married women who are supposed to follow a set custom and protocol while playing sindoor khela. This is believed to bring good luck for them and a long life for their husbands. As a part of the ritual Bengali women usually wears white saree with red borders, first perform Davi Baran, bidding farewell to the Goddess. After that married women greets each other by applying sindoor on each other forehead and parting of their hair, followed by Shakha, Pola, and Noa. Finally, they offer sweets to each other as prasad. If we, want to take about the origin when did this tradition began we don’t have that in any records. Some say or it is believed that the tradition is as old as the festival of Durga Puja itself, which dates back around 400 years. Some believed the traditions started around 200 years ago from the household of the Zamindars (Landlords) who organized Durga puja at their home. The ritual can be compared to Holi but only for married women. Traditionally the ritually has always been considered beautiful and pious, but it was not inclusive of everyone in the society. As the ritually has always been meant for women with living husband. Young girls, women who have never been married and widows are not supposed to be part of this celebration of matrimony and sisterhood. Now we see change in this tradition too. As many of the puja committee have started including all women, irrespective of their marital status, to be part of the celebration.

The Creative Power of Make-Up

My

name is Natascha Plate and I am 46 years old, married and the mother of a teenaged son. I am known under the pseudonym Mrs. Müller for my creative make-up projects. Being creative has always played a big role in my life. I studied art for 4 semesters and in my regular job I try to bring art closer to children. I believe that children should be encouraged to try things out themselves, think imaginatively and find their own creative path. I have always considered it important that everyone finds their own creative expression - no two works of art should be the same, because we are all different in our creativity. About three years ago, I began to deal more intensely with the subject of make-up. I quickly realized that I wanted to do more than normal day or evening makeup looks. I was fascinated by how make-up can be used to create different effects and express various emotions. I immersed myself in the world of creative make-up artistry. This field requires thinking differently than the mainstream and I realized very quickly that it was exactly the creative outlet I was looking for. Over the next two years, I improved and expanded my make-up skills using online tutorials as well as pure trial and error. Just start and do was the motto. Since I’ve always loved dressing up and putting together costumes for Halloween, I dabbled in that genre first. However, there is much more to creative make-up than just the make-up itself. Matching accessories such as hats, headpieces, wigs and matching clothes round out the picture and, combined with the right location, create a complete picture. Last year, during the first Corona lockdown, I started to create fairly elaborate headpieces in different shapes, colors and themes. I noticed how I started to burn for my projects. Eight pieces were created in that time. To go with these designs, ideas for the corresponding make-up looks quickly formed in my head. In the beginning, I always tried each make-up look on myself first, trying to identify subtleties, methods and improvements in advance. Since I also work as a model on the side, I stood in front of the camera myself for the first shoots. When I put on make-up and the right clothes, it’s like becoming a different person, embodying a different character. It was a lot of fun, and every shoot was unique. I get a lot of inspiration from Pinterest. I choose a basic theme and collect the corresponding looks on a mood board. I then put together an orignal look from the various parts and incorporate my own ideas. In collaboration with the photographer and model, an individual look is then created. As a make-up stylist, it is important to me to constantly practice, intensify and expand my knowledge. I do a lot of make-up consultations with women from different age groups. This has brought me very far in the last two years, made me more confident and encouraged me to tackle even difficult projects. I have had the pleasure of working with many great photographers. For example, with Mirko Webster from Vivid Visions, with whom I have been able to realize various creative projects. We have become a well-coordinated team. The Diamond project with Dirk Ludwig Fotografie was my most elaborate make-up project so far. I would like to thank all the photographers who gave me the chance to express myself creatively in my early phase as a make-up artist. Last year, my experience culminated in doing the make-up for a model for a photo book. I would especially like to thank my family, who have always supported me and believed in me. One of the most important points for me is: when you find something for yourself that you enjoy, and if you do it with passion and all your heart and soul, it can only be good. Be brave, try things out and follow your path. Even if you experience setbacks, don’t lose sight of your goal.

He has always had a passion for photography since a very young age but began to take it seriously between 2014 and 2015. Initially yes he dedicates a lot to nature photography and then in 2017 he landed on portraits. Self-taught, he slowly tried to develop his own way of shooting but above all post-produce his photos; his style is mainly based on Moody: as a former musician he associates the “guitarist’s touch” with photography, trying to create photos that are recognizable by those who are passionate about his shots even before reading the name. Very attentive to color management, which takes on a real “thickness” in his images. He loves the portrait set, mainly outdoors and with contexts that recall nature.

In

my younger years i was a semi-professional photographer (analog). I worked in a big studio with Sinar technical cameras up to 8x10 inch. I developed and printed both B&W and color. I stopped shooting for quite a few years but i am now shooting and editing with even more passion as before with my new digital Nikon Z7II ( .... and still use my old Nikkor lenses from back then). I also use a GoPro to make Behind the Scenes videos, i always take Polaroids and have an old analog Hasselblad.

What inspired you or what was the trigger that got you into photography?

--- That is quite a story in itself. When i had just turned 20 years young when i bought my first analog camera, a 35 mm Yashica, to photograph David Bowie (my hero) in live concert in Houston, Texas. The photographs were actually great and mr Bowie actually posed for me for a brief second for me to take the some shots!

Please describe your journey in brief as a photographer? When you started and how you evolved doing different genres of photography and how you see yourself 5 years from now? -- I have always photographed people, so i could say my first photographs were mostly Street. Also, i have always travelled a lot, so i took photographs in Israel, Peru, Kenia, England and so on. Later on i was very inspired by Ansel Adams and his famous Zone System. His books were my 'bible' so to speak. I really loved taking black and white, almost abstract, Landscapes and i had a few exhibitions in the Netherlands. A few years ago i was invited to photograph live bands in small cafes and bars in a city called Haarlem in the Netherlands. I was actually voted best photographer of chosen by all the bands, which was a great honor.

-- Respect your models !!

Make sure they are relaxed and feel at ease. Work together before the shoot, ask what they would like to do, tell them your ideas. Make a mood board on Pinterest to collect ideas. Discuss locations, clothes, make-up. Working together will greatly improve the result of the shoot.

Almost at the same time I re-discovered my love for Portraits and i could almost say that's what i have been doing the last 2-3 years. Last month 6 of my Portraits were exhibited in a Gallery in Kolkatta, India! So i would really like to see this developing into more and bigger exhibitions in more countries in the next five years.

How would you define your style of photography?

-- Close-up, intimate, classic Fine Art Portrait Photographer. What are tips you would like to give to aspiring photographers who want to get into Portrait photography?

ased in Dubai, he’s a banker at an International Bank for the last 16 years. A wellknown face in the party circuit today, he has a rocking reputation. But no, he’s no socialite, just a banker by profession and DJ by passion. Currently, DJ Buddha is a resident at AKS - Dubai’s biggest Desi nightlife brand, where he spins to packed dance floors on weekends. “For me, music is all about setting the right mood- a feel good atmosphere and a deep hypnotic groove - playing those tracks that get your feet tapping and nodding your head without you realizing it” said the Indian expat from Mumbai. Never afraid to experiment with different sounds – his emotive musical selections are his own therapy. Though he loves playing in nightclubs, patios and special events, his love for music goes way beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes. As a producer, promoter and influencer, he has found plenty of ways to express himself musically. Driven by unimaginable passion for Bollywood, Bhangra, Commercial and House music, over the last decade, he’s produced varied musical blends for the most demanding audiences across the globe. “A music lover and collector since the age of Seven. I discovered Deep House and Techno in the late 90’s and things have never been the same again.” Buddha, as he is fondly called, makes no attempt to hide his love for music. He’s successfully pioneered his own genre that he likes to call ‘Desi-deep house’ that has been a game changer in the Desi clubbing scene. He has recently released his first podcast for ‘The Sounds of AKS’ that has garnered immense praise and accolades from fans across the globe. Buddha regularly opens shows for big ticket events, concerts and cultural fests. He’s known to have shared the stage with the biggest names in the industry today. Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Arijit Singh, Atif Aslam, Badshaah, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Neha Kakkar, Mika Singh, RDB, Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan and the list goes on. He’s collaborated with some of the biggest record labels to release his official mixes and mash up’s. He’s been a part of several ad campaigns for companies within the UAE and has made people groove to his jingles. That’s not all, he also prides in having his own radio show on the biggest Bollywood Music Station in the UAE – City 1016, which he holds very close to his heart. You can catch him turning up the heat on Fridays with his unique blend of old and new songs as he unearths some real classics. He is regularly featured as a guest DJ on radio shows across the globe. “Amazing times and amazing music – I couldn’t be more inspired to share my music with the world” said Buddha who is a doting father to two beautiful kids aged 7 and 2

My

name is Stace Bernard and I am a Professional Photographer who specializes in Glamour/Fashion/Fine Art and Lifestyle photography. I have been studying photography for 12 years and my work has been featured in numerous publications and galleries across the globe. As a photographer my goal has always been to be a distinct voice in the Arts Community. When working with clients I find it helpful to understand their personality and goals for the shoot. Are we looking to capture where they are, where they are going or where they have come from? All of these help me to insert an element of individuality into every shoot. When working with models or agencies it is important to understand what are the goals of the shoot. Once I am assured of that I like to make sure I have an environment that corresponds to a successful and productive shoot. For photographers that are looking to transition into professional photography I would encourage you to focus on learning the fundamentals of photography (composing, exposure triangle and retouching). Equally important and in fact more importantly, it is important to understand how to effectively and professionally communicate with your clients. To stay sharp I am constantly looking for seminars and training opportunities that can further enhance my skills. I have a self-imposed goal of attending 3 trainings per year. Because photography is so vast and diverse it is imperative that photographers stay attuned to trends and developments in the Art community.

I

am a Tatumaster from Moscow. I have been tattooing since 2016. I graduated from the theatrical art college as a make-up artist. I began to take an interest in tattooing in the 3rd year, combining work and this new hobby. Working in the theater in my specialty, I always had a feeling of underestimation of what I was doing, there were certain limits through which I could not step over and add something of my own, creativity and self-expression were not welcomed in the theater, it was a routine work without creative development. After finishing studies I also left my job at the Bolshoi Theater and completely immersed myself in the world of tattooing, where I could bring my ideas to life. I have been tattooing for about 5 years When I was 14 years old, my mother got a tattoo covering the scar. And since then I became interested in this, often drawn on my hands with make-up pencils. At the age of 17, a large number of friends had tattoos, and I decided to keep up and signed up for a session with the master. The process fascinated me so much, I realized that I had to try. I'm self-taught Being very withdrawn and modest, I was ashamed to write to Tatumasters about assistance in development. Therefore, my path began on my own. I looked for all the information from the Internet, I watched the YouTube channels of tattoo artists, watched live broadcasts and looked for interesting articles. Many tricks and life hacks came to me by trial and error from personal experience. Of course, live communication helped me to achieve what I can now. I got acquainted with good tattoo artists and thanks to individual master classes, some of the nuances of the technique were revealed to me. Now, of course, I would advise a beginner to find a good mentor, so the development would go faster. I like animals a lot This is my favorite topic. I love working on them. After all, animals are emotional, and are always able to evoke feelings in others. Basically, I work only on animals, sometimes flowers, and other projects, if the idea interests me very much) I am always critical of my work, I don't like much As a rule, the client explains his idea in words, and I already imagine in my head how it will look on the skin and make a layout. I ask a series of questions that allow me to do the same) I do not look that far, I do not know what will happen in 10 years, at the moment I do not plan to stop Work hard and hard on style, art skills and technique. If the sleeve is counted as one tattoo, then 4 Of the animals, I have an ocelot and a bird
