Dear Southwest Ranches Readers,

We are proud of the unique elements of Southwest Ranches. The commitment to open space and room for animals of all kinds allows our residents to enjoy a more basic and rural lifestyle. However, we are also part of the larger community, and I am very proud of how our Town participated in the recent September 11th Commemoration, recognizing 20 years since this difficult day. The September 11th Commemoration was a somber event, but it was also a poignant one that was driven by the vision of our residents. Southwest Ranches resident Louis Gregory first proposed the idea to me. Another resident, George Morris, donated his time and talents to prepare the location and install the memorial plaque pictured on this page. Our administration went far beyond what they were asked to do to pull together all of the elements of the event to make it successful. On a day like this, having not had an event like this in the past, we were not sure of the level of participation from our residents. However, I am proud to say that we had strong support on the day of the event. We live in a wonderful place. I also want to thank Broward County School Board member, Donna Korn, for joining us as at the Commemoration. Finally, I want to thank all the members of the Town Council for their thoughtful comments and participation in the event. September 11th is an important day in our history and a strong reminder that we cannot take our freedoms for granted. We never know what sacrifice we will be called on to make on any given day. It is also a reminder of just how resilient our country and communities are. As we prepared for this event, I was reminded that those freshmen heading off to college did not experience this event. It occurred before they were born. So, it is up to us and our community to have these types of events to continue to pass on the importance of defending and protecting our freedoms. In the Ranches, we tend to be very independent individuals that, for the most part, want to build our own future. I was so very pleased and proud to see us all come together for this event in which we all have a stake. Should you ever have any questions about Southwest Ranches or wish to contact me, my number is (954) 296-6018. I welcome the opportunity to hear from you. We live in a very special place and always welcome others that share the desire for a simpler, more rural, lifestyle.

Sincerely,

Steve Breitkreuz Mayor - Southwest Ranches
