MODULE 9.1
PRESENTATION OF SPEECH – Delivery means, the presentation of a speech by using voice, body and facial expression in giving meaning towards the speech. – There are 4 modes of delivery which include:
– THE EXTEMPORENOUS MODE – THE IMPROMPTU MODE – THE MANUSCRIPT MODE – THE MEMORIZED MODE
THE EXTEMPORANEOUS MODE – A carefully prepared and researched speech delivered in a conversational style.
– Speaker had prepared the speech and well aware upon the topics.
THE IMPROMPTU MODE – Delivering speech without notes, plans or preparations.
– Characterized by spontaneity and informal language.
– Impromptu happens in a spontaneous situation and it will affect the speaker in answering questions unless the speaker in a readiness mode.
THE MANUSCRIPT MODE – Delivering presentation from a script of the exact words to be used.
– The disadvantage of this mode is that the speaker will be giving more attention towards the text rather than focusing and interacting with the audience.
THE MEMORIZED MODE – Committed to the memory of the speaker.
– Considerable practice, and allows ample eye contact, movement and gesture.
– However, it will affected the speaker as they will be having trouble focusing on answering the question from audience.
