RIDING WITH ROVER FUNDRAISING EVENT
Motorcycles are loud - which is why there is no better way to help get the word out about how important SpokAnimal is to Spokane and its outlying areas! SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. partners with these motorcycle riders (and their pups) to help raise awareness for everything they do!
Get ready for the 7th Annual Riding with Rover on Saturday, July 15th! There will be a beautiful ride ending at Curley’s with a concert from Hells Belles (an-all lady AC/DC famous tribute band)! We will have great food, great music, and we want to make lots of money for the animals!
Riding with Rover is SpokAnimal’s signature fundraising event, and you can be a part of making this the most successful year ever!!! If you are interested in participating or sponsoring, please email dori@spokanimal.org.

EXCITING THINGS AHEAD!
DEAR FELLOW ANIMAL LOVERS:
What a great year it has been so far! We have been so busy busy busy!!!!
Our kennel remodel began in mid-May and it is incredible to see the difference for the dogs in our care. They have double the space, new lighting, and a bright outlook on their days with us. It is our partnership with PetSmart Charities and Petco Love Foundation that made this possible and we are so proud of our relationships with these incredible organizations.
Our dog trainer was able to attend a Dog Playing for Life training through a grant in late April which changed the course for the dogs in our care with play groups, doggy day outs, and much more enrichment and behavior assessment happening to help facilitate wonderful adoptions. The volunteer base for our dogs grew tremendously which means so much more time outside for the dogs!
Kitten season began with a bang in late April with many litters being born in our foster system. Our new foster coordinator placed hundreds of kittens into their temporary homes to grow up healthy and ready for adoption. The Spay Your Mom program—where we spay the mom for free and find homes for the kittens when they are completed vetted—continues to grow as the community is learning about this resource we offer to help stop the overpopulation.
We hosted our 3rd annual kitten shower and it was a HUGE success! We were able to gather new fosters, supplies, and make many new contacts. Thank you to PetSmart, Northwest Seed & Pet, The Kitty Cantina, and Petco stores for gathering hundreds of items that we need.
We are always looking for new fosters to add to our team to help with pregnant dogs, dogs with medical needs, puppies that have been weaned, pregnant cats, bottle baby kittens, cats w/kittens, cats with medical needs, senior animals that need a soft spot, so many opportunities! Please reach out to randi@spokanimal.org if you are interested in becoming a foster hero.
Because of your generous support, we have been able to place over 1,500 animals into their new homes as of May 31st.
Hope everyone has a wonderful summer and please come visit us! Hours of operation have changed to visit our dogs, Tues-Sun, Noon-4:00 p.m.
Our motto, we don’t say no, we are here to help!

BEAGLE BIRTHDAY PARTY
Remember the 16 Beagles that SpokAnimal received in September of 2022? Well, they turned one year old on March 18th and celebrated in style!
The adopters have all kept in touch and become “beagle parent” friends! A party was planned including cake, toys, and lots of party favors. They are beloved members of their families and have so much joy in their lives.
We wanted to share this with our supporters as it is one of the best success stories we have ever had! Because of our generous donors, we were able to say yes when asked to help these sweet little Beagles. Now, they are living the good lives that all animals deserve.
SPOKANIMAL PARTNERS WITH SPOKANE INDIAN HOUSING AUTHORITY
SpokAnimal is very proud to be a partner of Spokane Indian Housing Authority helping to sterilize, vaccinate, and microchip hundreds of animals in Wellpinit, Ford, and the surrounding area of the reservation.
As part of the ongoing partnership that was started in fall of 2022, SpokAnimal transported 85 cats/ kittens on February 11th to the SpokAnimal clinic from Wellpinit for sterilization, vaccinations, and microchipping. The project was done with three veterinarians, vet technicians, vet assistants, and over 20 volunteers. The cats were returned to the owners the same day. This was a free vet clinic for
all 85 cats/kittens. This is a portion of the large-scale project in a multiple-year plan to help reduce the overpopulation of companion animals in the area.
In October, SpokAnimal will again be hosting a free spay/neuter, vaccine and microchip event for dogs only from the Wellpinit/Ford area to partner with The Spokane Tribe. There will be a target goal of 100 dogs once again picked up in Wellpinit and transported to SpokAnimal for the service, then returned the same day.
Partnering will help change so many lives! If you are interested in being a sponsor for this event, please contact dori@spokanimal.org.

ROCKY TO THE RESCUE
Six years ago, my husband and I began looking for a dog. What we found was so much more.
Initially, the goal was to find a potential service dog. Years ago, I fell on black ice, tearing my hamstring loose from my hip and damaged my knees and back too. It left me disabled. My husband, Allen, is a former Army serviceman, and he was exposed to Agent Orange fighting in the Vietnam War. He too had to give up working when that exposure eventually took its toll on his health. Both of us thought we could benefit from canine mobility support.
Rocky’s start was inauspicious. I remember when we first saw him at SpokAnimal in the kennel. He was 16-months old, and he couldn’t keep all four paws on the ground. Though maybe not the best trait for a service dog, his bouncing exuberance brought new joy and laughter into our lives.
Next, because of Rocky, we made a new friend. Upon adopting him, we learned that Rocky had been born in Oklahoma, saved by a foster, and transported by Wings of Rescue to Spokane, Washington. The foster had left a note in his file in hopes his new family would contact her. We were happy to accommodate the request, and to this day, we remain friends.
We took Rocky for basic obedience training at Petco and did advanced classes that earned him his Canine Good Citizen certificate. I worked with him on task training.
VACCINATED & LOVED
Collectively, that molded Rocky into the mobility service dog we wanted. In return, Rocky gave us new freedom and unleashed new horizons.
Rocky makes day-to-day living easier. Throughout rehab from my fall, my 130-pound furry friend helped me walk confidently on uneven ground, go up and down hills, and do stairs. He continues to assist me with getting in and out of my chair, and his calming presence also helps me with my anxiety. Rocky helps my husband too. Thanks to him, Allen has remained active with volunteer work, projects around the home, and doing metal artwork. When Allen needs project supplies from the store, he just has to load them in a cart and let Rocky take it from there because Rocky’s trained to pull the cart through the checkout and out to our car.
Rocky has also expanded our world. With him at our side, we have traveled extensively in our custom-built shuttle bus. Rocky has helped us hike in National Parks, explore indoor area attractions, go camping, and even travel to Oklahoma to visit his foster mom – twice.
From our perspective, Rocky rescued us as much as we rescued him.
Thanks to a vaccine grant from @PetcoLove, 214 animals received FREE vaccines on March 18th. If you missed the event, we offer low-cost vaccines and microchips Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm-4pm at our clinic located at 715 N. Crestline St.
(P.S. Low cost spay and neuter and dental appointments are available too! Call (509) 534-4253 to book an appointment.)
