We can only be successful in achieving our sustainability goals through partnerships from our event clients.

We couldn’t be more thankful to doTERRA, their staff, and all of the wonderful event partners involved. We can’t possibly thank everyone in this report, but we value you all, and are forver grateful for the sutainable work of this amazing show.

diversion and renewable energy efforts is equivalent to planting 691 trees. Trees planted is an equivalent to the number of trees planted in an urban area and allowed 10 years to grow.

FOOD DONATION Rescue Mission of Salt Lake 50 pounds of leftover food was donated through our partner, Waste Less Solutions, a local nonprofit that focuses on reducing food waste by picking up food and delivering it to other organizations in need. Food left from doTERRA’s 2024 Annual Convention was donated to Rescue Mission of Salt Lake City with the help of Waste Less Solutions. Rescue Mission of Salt Lake City provides services to assist those experiencing homelessness and addiction. These services focus on providing food, clothing, and shelter along with support to transition to having stability back to their lives.

The Salt Palace Convention Center and our in-house catering partner,Sodexo Live, work hard to reduce food waste, reducing the amount of overordering for food allows for more food to be consumed during the event. Although some leftover food is unavoidable, with careful planning, doTERRA’s annual convention only had 50 pounds of food to donate. This represents a smart partnership between doTERRA and Sodexo Live.

MATERIAL DONATION Utah Arts Alliance The Utah Arts Alliance is a nonprofit organization that brings art to the community through art exhibitions, events, and programs that allow artists to utilize space and materials.

30 pounds of essential oils from the doTERRA Conference were donated to the Utah Arts Alliance. They were used in volunteer thank-you bags for Illuminate, the Alliance’s annual art and light technology event.

HEALING HANDS doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation empowers people worldwide to be healthy, safe, and self-reliant through initiatives that help those dealing with poverty, natural disasters, and improving quality of life. Initiatives include anti-human trafficking, education for women and children, clean water, and providing heath care resources.

During doTERRA’s 2024 Annual Convention, Move For A Cause, a yoga session took place on Saturday morning in our beautiful Grand Ballroom. This highly attended event provided attendees with a serene experience, blending the power of yoga with a meaningful cause. Participants were required to purchase an additional ticket to attend, with all proceeds directly going towards the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. This special event was a testament to the spirit of doTERRA, bringing people together to make a positive impact while embracing personal wellness.

AREAS OF RECOMMENDATION

Reduce and Reuse: Reduce the amount of materials you buy each year and create event materials (signage, swag, etc.) that can be used from year to year.

Transportation Partnership: The Salt Palace Convention Center has many public transit stops nearby, these allow for attendees to travel to and from the event sustainably.

Utah Transit Authority (UTA) offers event passes that attendees can use their badge as their ticket. Encouraging the use of public transportation and participating in UTA’s ticket as fare program can be great for branding and reaching your sustainability goals.

Pre-planning: Working with clients months in advance helps us find areas to make your show more sustainable, this can also result in better marketing programs and engagement with your stakeholders. You can reach out to our Sustainability Coordinator to schedule a meeting. A lot of event attendees get excited about sustainability these days, so the more you share that story with them, the more positive engagement you can receive.

Tracking: Tracking the impact of your event across all venues and hotels will allow for a greater understanding of what sustainability goals can be set, and how to reach them. Track trash, recycling, donations, energy and water usage, and what each location does to support sustainable practices.

Carbon Offset Your Event: Carbon emissions are unavoidable, but there are programs that will help offset the emissions you cannot avoid. There are many different programs to choose from, such as planting trees and supporting renewable energy projects. Talk to our Sustainability Coordinator about options to track carbon emissions and programs to offset them.

Your commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of the event—through initiatives like paper-based signage and a robust recycling program—set this convention apart and helped us all contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. Achieving a 48.01% landfill diversion rate is no small feat, and this success is a testament to the power of teamwork and shared dedication.

Our partnerships, including with WEBB for sustainable signage, Sodexo Live and Waste Less Solutions for food waste reduction, and the Salt Palace and our haulers for comprehensive recycling, were key in helping us reach these remarkable goals. Your leadership and vision made it all possible, and we are excited to have been part of this achievement.
