SCG CLASS OF 2025 CONGRATULATIONS

It is with pride that I share our 2025 VCE results and congratulate the outstanding young people who together make the SCG Class of 2025.

As students received their results this morning, it has been a joy to share in this milestone with them and to celebrate the many paths that have led them to today’s achievement.

A special congratulations to our 2025 Duces Annie Huang and Helena Labus who achieved an exceptional ATAR of 97.75 and have made SCG history as the first Duces in our school. Yash Padmawar, who has been a student at our school since Foundation, is our Dux Proxime Accessit with an ATAR of 96.9.

23% of our students attained an ATAR of 90 and above placing them in the top 10% in Victoria. Additionally, 46% of students achieved an ATAR of 80 and above, placing them in the top 20%. Their results are an impressive feat and echoes our school’s pursuit of academic excellence.

Today’s results represent far more than numbers on a page but rather reflect our students’ years of ambition, their perseverance and their courage. Each member of the Class of 2025 has embarked on a learning journey that demanded hard work, resilience, and the willingness to challenge themselves both academically and personally. Reaching this milestone is a testament to the young people they have become and we are proud of them.

Today is also an important moment to acknowledge the exceptional staff who have supported our students during their time at SCG: our teachers, learning assistants, wellbeing team, support staff, and Corporate Services staff, all whom have demonstrated unwavering dedication to our students.

Our staff’s commitment to nurturing the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students is one of our school’s greatest strengths. Whether teaching in the classroom, encouraging students during challenging moments, or supporting their ambition beyond the classroom, their belief in each student’s potential has

played an integral role in shaping these outcomes we celebrate today. To them, I give my thanks.

I also extend my appreciation to our families. Your trust, encouragement, and partnership over the years have been invaluable. Education is a shared endeavour, and our students’ success is strengthened by the consistent support they receive at home.

As we celebrate the Class of 2025’s achievements, we also recognise that every student’s path is unique. Whether moving into further study, training, employment or other opportunities, they depart SCG with the confidence, skills and values to thrive in their next chapter. We wish them every success and look forward to watching their futures unfold.

To the Class of 2025: your contribution to our school and broader community has been significant, and your legacy will continue to inspire those who follow.

Congratulations!

SCG CLASS OF 2025 CONGRATULATIONS

Our Two Duces

Congratulations to our 2025 Duces, Annie Huang and Helena Labus, on achieving an exceptional ATAR of 97.75. Both students have shone under the spotlight at SCG, with Helena captivating audiences in the Performing Arts and Annie in Music.

Helena Labus

Helena’s journey at Southern Cross Grammar is one of resilience, creativity, and excellence. Joining SCG in 2020 during the challenges of COVID, Helena quickly found her place and flourished in what is a true testament to her determination and the strength of our school community.

Her time at SCG was marked not only by academic achievement but by a deep love for the Arts. Helena will always remember the laughter and camaraderie of Year 9 Drama and all moments that sparked her passion for performance. That passion shone brilliantly in 2022 when she stepped into the role of the terrifically horrible Mrs Wormwood in Matilda the Musical—our very first production in the Centauri Centre.

Helena’s performance was spectacular and showcased her talent for bringing characters to life on the stage from pages in a book.

As Helena steps into the next chapter, we know the same drive and excellence that shaped her years at SCG will guide her toward extraordinary achievements.

Annie Huang

When Annie joined Southern Cross Grammar in 2020, she brought with her a determination and a love for music that would soon flourish into something extraordinary. Five years later, having led the school as the 2025 Wellbeing and Arts Captain, and achieving Dux of 2025 Annie is honoured to be top of her class.

“Achieving DUX has come as a genuine surprise and honour,” she said. “To me, it represents not only my own effort, but also the collective hard work of our entire

cohort throughout the year.”

On stage, Annie is known for her beautiful performances on the GuZheng, a traditional Chinese instrument. Annie began playing it in Year 5 having being inspired by her mother’s love for it, and she would ultimately successfully audition for our Select Entry Music Program in 2021 where her artistry and confidence grew year after year.

A high achiever, Annie also earned her Colours Awards in the Arts for her talent and skill, but also beyond in General Excellence. In 2020, during the challenges of the pandemic, she led and inspired her peers as Class Captain.

Annie’s fondest memories at SCG are the collaborations and every day interactions had with her peers and teachers. “Some of the most memorable moments for me were the everyday interactions in class. It made the academic pressure of Year 12 much more meaningful and enjoyable.”

Looking ahead, Annie hopes to study a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne. “SCG has supported me not only academically, but personally. I’ve developed skills like teamwork, time management, and resilience,” she said. “These are skills I know will continue to support me well beyond school, and I’m incredibly grateful for that foundation.”

From the classroom to the stage, and now to top academic success Helena and Annie have embodied the spirit of SCG: striving for excellence while embracing creativity and joy. We are immensely proud of their achievements and the legacy they leave behind.

SCG CLASS OF 2025 OUR TOP PERFORMERS

Homegrown Success

From his first day at Southern Cross Grammar as a Foundation student, Yash Padmawar has been an exemplary student in every regard. We are delighted to acknowledge his achievement as our 2025 Dux Proxime Accessit, with an outstanding ATAR of 96.9.

Yash’s journey at Southern Cross Grammar has been nothing short of remarkable. A true home-grown success, Yash has embraced every opportunity to learn, lead, and inspire throughout his thirteen years at SCG.

As Academic Captain in the 2025 Student Leadership Team, Yash led with passion and zeal, championing academic excellence across the school. An avid member of the Robotics Club in his younger years, Yash’s excellence in STEM has always shone bright on our campus and beyond on the national stage. Earlier this month he was awarded the prestigious Australian Defence Force (ADF) Innovator’s Award, recognising his scientific ability, ethical values, and high performance in his studies.

Great thinkers are often great storytellers and Yash is living proof of this. His talents extended far beyond the lab and into the world of creative writing where he won the City of Melton’s Short Story Competition in 2024 and flourished as the Junior Editor of our student-led magazine: Aurora

Reflecting on his VCE achievement, Yash shared: “Year 12 was a long chain of planning, correction, and consistent work. It never felt like a sprint. This result shows that the effort I put in over a long period actually held together, and seeing it come through means a lot.”

When Yash recalls his time at SCG, the moments that stay with him are not only the big milestones but the smaller day-to-day happenings. “The smaller day-to-day things have shaped my time at SCG just as much as the formal achievements,” he said. “It’s the teachers who stayed back to go through one more question, the friends who kept heavy weeks manageable, and the humour that broke up the pressure.”

Looking ahead, Yash aspires to join the aerospace engineering industry, aiming to work at the pinnacle of design and high-performance systems.

He said, “SCG’s teachers have shaped far more than my academic results. They’ve pushed my thinking, helped me build the skills that underlie good work, and consistently backed my ambitions.”

We congratulate Yash on his success and wish him all the best in his next chapter.
