There’s no better place to ‘chill out’ these July school holidays than on the NSW South Coast. Have fun, make family memories and be in the running for $25,000 in cash prizes at the 59th Annual Sussex Inlet Family Fishing Carnival from 4 to 9 July. There are plenty of fish in Sussex Inlet, but they will be nervous this month! Whale watching season also gets started this month so why not head for an excellent vantage point in Booderee National Park, or stay at Swan Lake Tourist Village on their Winter Whale Watching packages and get out on the water on a whale watching cruise? For fun ashore, see the animals at Shoalhaven Zoo and, while you are there, take to the trees at Trees Adventure’s Shoalhaven climbing park – the only tree and cliff climbing park in Australia! You can also get above the trees at the Illawarra Fly treetop walk or with a NSW Air joy flight.

Indoors, there is live entertainment galore with musical theatre at Shellharbour’s Roo Theatre, great Australian music at Milton Theatre and an impressive line up of performances at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre including the musical Chicago, Australia’s favourite performer John Waters, a circus variety show and Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir. There are also live acts appearing in pubs and clubs throughout the region. Our recipe this month is Moroccan lamb - perfect for warming the insides on a winter’s night. For more good South Coast food and warm winter nights, check out the romantic winter getaway specials at Bannisters in Mollymook. Page 27 has all the details. Stay up to date and plan your next South Coast getaway online at www. southcoastimag.com.au or find us on Facebook and Twitter. See you on the South Coast.

Time for some Summer Rain at the Roo Theatre this winter! This winter you can see Summer Rain at the Roo Theatre from July 18 - July 26. An Australian musical featuring a stellar cast, the Roo Theatre Company proudly presents, Summer Rain. Directed by Martin Moore and David Wassink, with choreography by Diane Blaas, this show is sure to be a winner. Written by Nick Enright & Terence Clarke Summer Rain is about the Slocum family, who are travelling performers abandoned by the rest of their troupe on Christmas Eve 1945. Harold, the father and proprietor, suggests the family visit the small outback town of Turnaround Creek. As the Slocums arrive in Turnaround Creek, heavy rains break a seven-year

drought. The sudden weather forces the Slocums to remain in town indefinitely, magnifying the mixed feelings of their arrival. It soon comes to light that when Harold Slocum last visited Turnaround Creek, he had had an affair with the publican’s wife. The publican, Barry, deals with the double blow of being reminded of his late wife (whose death he has not truly come to terms with), while watching his eldest (married) daughter being courted by Harold’s son. All the while, many existing relationships are tested and some new ones formed. By the end of the story, Turnaround Creek will certainly not be the same humdrum town it once was!

Don't miss this show! For performance times or to secure your tickets, call 42972891, or book online at www.roo-theatre.com.au

Maritime Museum. The exhibition is a collection of creative, crafty and artistic works from individuals and groups showcasing what they do for fun! Works on display and for sale will include tapestry, crochet, quilting, embroidery and woodwork. In conjunction with Shoalhaven City Council Waste Minimisation Services, part of the ‘What We Do For Fun’ exhibition will showcase some of the Shoalhaven landscapes of artist Samuel Elyard interpreted in recycled textiles. This inventive project, created by Shoalhaven City Council Waste Services, highlights the concern around the 1000 tonnes of textiles disposed of each year in the Shoalhaven. The members of the St Georges Basin Creative Craft Group and the G6 group of artists have worked on interpreting a number of landscapes which are part of the Lady Denman collection. The exhibition runs from 13 July – 28 September at the Lady Denman Maritime Museum in Huskisson. For more information visit www. ladydenman.asn.au
