The Specialists in Packaging Solutions Solutions UK is proud to present JJA Pack and commend its team for achieving its highly coveted Commitment to Excellence profile.

which are larger in size – we have a distinct advantage,” Jamie continued. “Bigger manufacturers are more restricted, as they are limited by corporate loopholes, so we have greater flexibility (as we are not tied to one specific product range or solution). We also retain a strong focus on start-up companies as they can often find themselves neglected by major manufacturers.

The packaging solutions company was chosen due to its refined knowledge in the industry; over 10 years of experience in the build, installation and maintenance of contemporary filling and packaging machines has secured the name as a real frontrunner amongst its competitors.

“Our biggest selling point is that we take the time to listen to all of our customers, and we only take on jobs which we know we can manage capably and can complete to the set timescale. The company philosophy and the success of how we operate is based simply upon the promise to do what we say, when we say.”

The business, which is based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was initially formed to facilitate the growing demands of leading dairies by providing efficient support services and dependable machinery. The significant progression that ensued enabled JJA Pack to turn its hand to other specialities, supplying a vast range of equipment for a whole host of applications.

When discussing JJA Pack’s progressive path, Jamie was confident that his flourishing enterprise will continue to advance effectively, moving forwards at a strong and steady pace, “The Company has experienced continual growth since its establishment, and the aim is to keep on progressing and increasing our customer base whilst working on developing our own equipment range,” he summarised.

These extended capabilities include the refurbishment of mechanical or electrical systems on a wide range of filling apparatus and the delivery of PLC upgrades, hardware upgrades and software modifications. One of its main areas of expertise relates to the food and beverage sectors – it even has the proficiency to supply and service a selection of chocolate equipment. It also has a wealth of knowledge in cup filling and bottle filling machinery manufactured by

We have developed numerous working relationships as a result of our exemplary abilities, with the majority of new contacts coming through recommendations. Maintaining such a good competitive service is very much an on-going priority for JJA Pack.”

Jamie Ashpole, Founder & Director of JJA Pack companies such as Duckworth, Colunio, Trustpak, BWI Fords and Volumet (to name just a few). “From such humble beginnings, we have managed to continually develop and achieve worldwide respect,” commented Jamie Ashpole, Founder and Director of JJA Pack. “We can produce equipment which can deposit pretty much any flowable product, and we can also manufacture machinery per customers’ requests which incorporate bespoke designs for individual applications. “We are currently working with Food Jet, a printing company from Holland, acting as their sales agent within the

UK. This involves supplying machinery on their behalf and providing food printing services for virtually any product, such as chocolate, jam and cream.” JJA Pack’s unparalleled status has resulted in the company operating extensively on an international basis. Its esteemed customer base comprises many huge OEMS, including confectionary giants Cadbury and Sollich, and its premium quality products and services are highly regarded by many leading producers and brand-owners who have installed these machines in multiple quantities worldwide. “If you were to compare us to our competitors – organisations

The JJA Pack team enjoyed a fantastic reception after appearing at the Pro2Pac Show 2015 – the only food and drink packaging event held in the UK – earlier this year. Their attendance was made even more pronounced as they were selected as one of the Top 10 exhibitors to hold a stand at the event – this is an extremely significant achievement, particularly when it is taken into consideration just how popular the convention is. After such great success, JJA Pack has confirmed that they will be attending the next jampacked edition of the Pro2Pac Show, which will take place in London from 19-22 March 2017. 100 Years of Excellence

Centenary celebrations for leading scientific instrument manufacturer Bellingham + Stanley

When Leonard Bellingham and Frank Stanley formalised their partnership on the 8th May 1915 by registering at Companies House, little did they know that their legacy would be an internationally recognised brand operating as part of a $3 billion dollar business quoted on the New York stock exchange; truly representing the Best of Britain! Almost as soon as they started operations from their London basement site at No. 71 Hornsey Rise; they outgrew the space and moved to a larger facility at Markfield Road that became the home of Bellingham + Stanley up until 1976, when they moved to a purpose built manufacturing site in Tunbridge Wells from where the company still operates. Since first supplying the sugar industry with refractometers and polarimeters for the

purpose of payment and process control, Bellingham + Stanley quickly moved to other markets including the lucrative food & beverage industry, where to this day, their refractometers control the Brix, or concentration of liquid products made by many of the world's most well-known brands. There have been many other milestones over the past 100 years. It is believed that when Bellingham + Stanley produced the Pocket refractometer in the 1930s, they were the first to take measurement to the field and still their

hand held refractometers are commonly used within so many applications; from fruit growers, jam makers, automotive and aircraftengineers to plumbers installing solar heat source collectors. In 1946, Bellingham + Stanley exhibited at British Industries Fair at Olympia in London and even the then Queen, or Queen Mother as we are more likely know her, and Princess Margaret took an

interest at the show and then, following the rapid growth in technological advancement in the 1960s, Bellingham + Stanley quickly saw the need to digitise their instruments so that they could be used by unskilled operators within a factory environment. So when Bellingham + Stanley introduced the world’s first commercially successful automatic refractometer in 1980, customers like Pepsi, Britvic, Heinz and Nestle picked up the advantage offered by the new RFM80 Series refractometers and purchased them for use throughout their global operations. Today, like many others, they remain as loyal customers of its successor, the RFM340 refractometer, seen by many as the world’s first choice refractometer for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and industrial applications.

Bellingham + Stanley has not only prided itself on supplying high quality products, including a full range of UKAS Certified Reference Materials manufactured in accordance with ISO 17025, they also operate ethically and in a sustainable manner. Complimenting ISO 9001:2008 quality management accreditation and recently awarded Safecontractor certification, Bellingham + Stanley has recently undergone the final assessment processes of ISO 14001 (Environmental) and ISO 18001 (Health & Safety) and has been recommended for accreditation, which the company hopes to receive at their Centenary celebrations being held at Penshurst Place & Gardens this coming June. Wallguard Systems: Committed to Service and Quality Wallguard Systems is the only UK supplier of Systexx glass fabric and the Opti range of coatings; this alone makes it a standout name in the industry. When you factor in that its team also specialises in the nationwide design, supply and installation of all passive fire protection systems, it is easy to see why the company has been selected for its outstanding products and services. The business, which was established in November 2013, provides a glass fabric that is one of the most trusted materials for its unique characteristics. Glass fabrics share these characteristics

with additional benefits: an extremely long life cycle and a permanent reinforcement of the substrate are just a few to name. The Systexx range comprises products best suited for areas which typically have high quantities of traffic. These items,

which are carefully constructed using glass fabrics, significantly lessen maintenance cycles and subsequently, the ongoing maintenance costs (which can be exceedingly extortionate). As the glass fabrics provide great strength (and therefore, high impact resistance), the Systexx range acts as the perfect problem solver, offering a level of function that other wall coverings simply cannot achieve – reinforcing and bridging cracks whilst ensuring the prevention of any further crevices. Your perfect drilling companion Self-employed maintenance man Martin Chard is the innovator behind this unique and exciting new company, set up in 2011. After encountering frequent frustrating incidents whilst fitting kitchens, bathrooms and putting up shelving, the entrepreneur decided to take the problem into his own hands and create a solution that would make marking drilling positions on any surface, easy, quick and clear. Introducing the tool to replace all conventional methods of marking: Marxman! This simple British-made product eliminates difficulties commonly experienced in the marking and drilling of surfaces by both professional tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts alike. “Marxman is completely unique, there is no other product that works like it,” commented Martin. “Every tool bag should have one.” “Because we wanted a quality product, we held out until we had a prototype that was well constructed,” added Martin’s wife and business partner Jenny. “The tool cuts the time it takes to do the job in half, giving tradesmen the opportunity to significantly shorten what can be a very long and inaccurate, frustrating procedure.” Marxman replaces the need for over sharpened pencils and

felt tips; which is a relief considering these instruments are largely ineffective in doing the job properly. As a fluorescent green spray, the multi award-winning marker can be seen on all types of surfaces, from pebble dash, wood and tile to brick and metal, making it an invaluable item for any workman’s toolbox.

off most surfaces afterwards so it isn’t problematic if a mistake is made!

Increasing efficiency and ease, Marxman delivers a surge of brightly coloured dry chalk when pressed into fixing holes of varying depths and diameters, spraying a visible dot. when pushed directly onto a surface both models spray a cross for a reference point, making building, installing and measuring a stress-free process for workers everywhere, and the chalky burst is easy to brush

“As a new product there is plenty of scope for development and expansion,” Jenny concluded. “We hope to improve the product by using varying colours for specific jobs, adding a lid and belt grip and then a light which catches the luminosity of the chalk. Going forwards, we are looking to attract a major distributor for the product.”

Acoustic Building Products

Building Solutions UK is delighted to feature Trim Acoustics for achieving its industry-acclaimed Commitment to Excellence profile. Selected for its specialist knowledge in building acoustics, the outstanding business has been positively impacting the trade for more than 25 years. During its start-up its focus was primarily on flooring, but the Trim Acoustics team soon realised that it was much more profitable for them to expand into the acoustics arena. Over the course of its existence the company has secured itself as a real leader in the marketplace, supplying premium quality acoustic products from the UK’s major manufacturers (such as Sound Reduction Systems, Hodgson & Hodgsons, Instacoustic, Monarfloor and Cellecta) to both the building industry and domestic market.

Its impressive portfolio of high performance components includes Acoustilay, Maxiboard, Reduc Flooring and Trim Acoustics own range of Defender floor and wall products suitable for both household and commercial applications. Associated accessories are also available for purchase in the form of resilient bars, plank plasterboards, underlays, drill point screws, acoustic foam, joint adhesive, anti-vibration pads, Duoseal Acoustic Mastic, isolation tape, wire mesh, high density mineral fibre, absorbers, T&G MDF and acoustic door bars. The manufacturers and suppliers of quality soundproofing materials have a wealth of experience in providing acoustic solutions to clients suffering from highly frustrating (and often unbearable) noise problems. Its capabilities cover new build projects, bespoke design commissions and house conversion specifications, tending to all individual requirements with an unmatched dedication and exceptional ease. “One of our main areas of expertise relates to the manufacture of products for

property conversion,” commented Steve Aylott, Supervisor at Trim Acoustics. “Whether transforming buildings from houses to flats or offices to flats (for example), we can capably assist customers as this is a key specialism of ours. We can work to reduce noise levels in factories or assist in the construction of new recording studios, and assisting in the daily problem of noisy neighbours. “In essence, this flexibility means that we don’t have a set customer base as such; our products can be utilised by all types of individuals. This includes architects, builders and the general public, and common applications include schools, halls and auditoriums.”

to site (as per customers’ requests). Its wide-reaching range of solutions can be suggested either over the telephone or at an individual base, ensuring that all queries can be addressed promptly, regardless of a customer’s whereabouts. After the issue is identified, the correct materials for the job can be delivered within a next couple of days. When asked about recent changes and future plans, Steve was adamant of further advancement, and was pleased to mention its freshly acquired base in particular, “One of our most exciting developments is our

recent relocation to a large manufacturing warehouse,” he said. “We have recently moved in to this complex (which is situated in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire) to co-exist with our sister company Hillaldam Coburn for greater efficiency and operational ease. Going forwards, we are placing a specific emphasis on expanding our own range of products. We are also hoping to continue extending all areas of the industries that we currently operate in.” T +44 (0)20 8443 0099 www.trimacoustics.co.uk

Architects and developers can also benefit from site surveys and specifications. Trim Acoustics’ profound understanding and extensive experience in soundproofing for walls, floors and ceilings is further supported by the team’s ability to deliver wholly appropriate technical advice and expertise. “Trim Acoustics is a well-established company with lots of technical knowledge in the field – this is one aspect that we really pride ourselves on,” Steve continued. “In addition, most of our items are always in stock, so when this is the case we can guarantee to deliver within a few days. Our ever-increasing presence and fantastic reputation has enabled us to distribute our products nationwide.” Trim Acoustics operates four branches spanning North & South London, Wales and the Midlands, all of which are fully stocked establishments offering prompt delivery services taking products directly

The SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels) are produced using a facing of OSB (oriented stranded board) with a filling of PUR (polyurethane) insulation. These panels provide a labour and material-saving alternative to traditional timber frame or masonry construction. The insulation used in these panels is continuous and is not bridged by timber studs. This type of panel has been in use for over 60 years and they offer an energy efficient building system that substantially reduces on-site labour times and cost.

As a quality contractor you no doubt purchase Insurance Backed Guarantees (IBGs) on behalf of your customers.

Please consider the following important facts. 1. There are only a few Insurers in this market and historically the length of these guarantees has been between 10 and 20 years. 2. Over recent months Insurers have removed anything above the 10 year term. 3. Insurers are now only prepared to cover up to £250,000.00 for any single contract. This will clearly hinder certain business sectors, for example commercial contracts will often require a 20 year guarantee and may have a value of above the £250,000 threshold. We are delighted to inform you of an exclusive scheme secured by ourselves with our Insurer Partners.

Nationwide solar experts based in Dunstable, bringing specialist in-roof and battery storage. We provide solar installations for every domestic customer, builder & architect in the UK.

It is a common misconception that solar payments are made to feed the grid; in fact, the Government Feed In Tariff (FIT) is paid to generate electricity regardless of where it is used. The Export Tariff is also just an assumed amount of what is generated, meaning the financial return with a Hybrid system is threefold – feed in tariff, assumed export tariff as well as hardly any electric bills from March through to October!

Assured Solar are able to evaluate new models as they are released to market, offering you only the best. Everdeveloping technology means that the innovative company can now supply a 4kWh Energy Storage System for as little as £3,000. Big brands such as Samsung and Bosch & Tesla have launched Hybrid Energy Storage Systems this year to make intelligent use of the Solar Energy (rather than just feeding the national grid). These hybrid systems take Solar Energy generated during the day and stores it in long lasting batteries until it is required for use avoiding the ‘use it or lose it’ concept of a standard installation. Prioritising self-use demand during the day and discharging through the evening and overnight ensures that households can achieve maximum self-sufficiency. The value is indisputable; most of Assured Solar’s customers utilise >90% of the energy they produce from the Solar Array, so it is incredibly worthwhile and cost-effective. Some of the specialist systems can even power your home during grid failure, giving you independence and peace of mind when you need it most.

Pool Design News

A Pool For ALL Seasons Outdoor swimming pools have their place in Britain for determined hardy exercisers and once every decade they really come into their own when we get a heatwave but there is growing trend towards enclosed swimming of varied kinds and the ultimate home improvement; an indoor pool. The most basic way of keeping the rain off you when swimming is an inflatable dome. These cheap, functional but inelegant products do actually allow you to swim economically all through the British summer. `Glazed` or metal & polycarbonate enclosures are a more substantial and more elegant option, extending your swim season into Spring and Autumn. Some of these extended season enclosures consist of sliding sections which open, and make it possible for you to enjoy swimming outside again; especially useful in heat waves! A fixed double glazed conservatory also serves as an extended season enclosures but all these `glazed` buildings can become too hot in summer and create gallons of condensation as soon as the outside temperature drops a few degrees, creating a harsh atmosphere. This condensation is expensive to

control in such buildings and this is prohibitively so in Winter months. If you want to go Scandinavian, a log cabin, built of substantial log section offers a more amenable and controllable atmosphere for extending the season into Winter, with suitable heating and dehumidification. Some are available with insulated cavity wall construction to retain more heat and avoid the problems associated with glass. The costs are in the midfield. The ultimate all year option is a pool hall designed as a permanent building, with insulated cavity walls and fully insulated roof. With the latest most energy efficient air handling system and designed in excess of current building regulations, swimming all year can be achieved without selling your heirlooms and favourite family works of art!

As a last resort you could go to Acapulco and swim in the sea! Contact www.aquabluedesigns.net

You can also afford to luxuriate or de-stress in a spa bath or sauna and this will reduce the risk of heart failure when making the final payment for the project!. Such buildings have specific requirements due to the high vapour pressure created and the corrosive

Understanding that Every Swimming Pool is Unique… The Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association (SPATA) stands to fairly and accurately represent the swimming pool industry – both at home and abroad – protecting the best interests of associated businesses across the UK, Ireland and overseas. Association with SPATA will propel

members to the forefront of the industry due to the fact that the group is internationally known for maintaining high levels of professionalism, reliability and quality. Only applicants demonstrating a commitment to providing first-rate services can secure membership; all companies must comply with the set standards set out by SPATA in relation to the construction and operation of

Which cycle solution is right for your site? Type B cycle rack alternates high and low cycle holders, reducing the space between the bicycles to 305mm.

Cycle storage is essential for every site, both commercial and residential. With a myriad of options available, which one is right for you? To help you decide, here is a breakdown of the main types of cycle storage and their individual benefits. The Sheffield Cycle stand is a common sight around the UK and offers a scalable and flexible cycle parking solution. Providing the cycle stands are installed correctly (minimum 800mm apart) each stand will provide secure storage for two bicycles. This style is preferred by cyclists as its simple design allows both the bicycle frame and wheel to be locked to the stand. Cycle racks are better suited for the smaller, or tighter, site. Cycle racks, such as the AUTOPA Type B, offer a higher density of cycle parking than single level cycle parking solutions. The

Cycle holders are ideal for smaller sites as they affix to the wall of an existing building without the need for additional space. Cyclists push their bicycle into the holder, and they are secured through the front wheel with the owner’s own lock In order to satisfy BREEAM regulations, any cycle storage provided must be protected from the elements. This is easily achieved through the installation of a cycle shelter or compound; which are designed to protect bicycles from the worst of the weather. AUTOPA offers BREEAM compliant cycle shelters and compounds in a variety of different designs to match your site’s environment. AUTOPA Limited has been manufacturing cycle storage and parking control products for over 60 years. The majority of our products are manufactured at our works in Rugby. We provide our customers with a comprehensive end-to-end service; from manufacture through to installation. To find out more, please visit our website www.autopa.co.uk.

Propeller Studios’ Construction Software Solutions go from strength to strength Propeller Studios are in the middle of launching some fantastic new functionality to their already feature-packed construction sector software solution, EasyBOP. The web-based business management solution is designed for SMEs in the construction sector and related services that need to bring order and efficiency to their work processes and the new features allow even more areas of the business to benefit. The brand new E-tendering module allows EasyBOP clients to improve their supply chain management by running their own tendering process, while the planned works functionality has been improved to include Quantity Surveyor functionality, the addition of BOQ lists, valuations, bulk pricing, variations and cost to value reports.

necessary to run a business efficiently, encompassing Business Reporting, CRM, Invoicing, HR, Supplier Management and much more. And by sharing data across the different areas, duplication of entry is removed saving companies both time and money.

Propellor Studios at Stand E12

There have also been recent updates to the drawing register and the inventory module, where you can perform stock control between stores. In EasyBOP, Propeller has in effect created multiple standalone pieces of software, within the one solution, that all talk seamlessly to each other and share data across a single platform. The affordable solution has all the components

The reporting functions allow companies to track their jobs, check POs and invoice details, who is working on a job, the forms completed or any other associated document. There is the functionality to manage projects, suppliers, people and plant. Everything is indexed by the software and searchable from the one login. As a web-based platform, EasyBOP is available from tablet devices with access to the internet, which gives the ability for staff to update the system while they are

out on a job; allowing stock control and reporting to be done on the fly, reducing the need for paperwork to be filed when staff return to the office. This makes EasyBOP particularly relevant for companies who deal with planned works and responsive repairs, or any other service where information needs to be collected over a large number of different locations. “We used to work on 6 different systems, which meant that if information was needed in more than one place it had to be duplicated. With EasyBOP we only use one system; everything can be linked together, is easy to find from one place and has saved us so much time.” Concrete Repairs Ltd For more information on EasyBOP, visit: www.easybop.co.uk or call Jason Darby on: +44 (0)1462 440077.

Commitment to Excellence

Sustainable Excellence because our Environment Matters Gypsol has been chosen by Solutions UK for accomplishing its prestigious Commitment to Excellence profile. Manufactured and owned by Francis Flower, the leading supplier of specialised mineral materials and services established in 1953, Gypsol acts as an exceptional alternative to sand/cement screeds and polished concrete. The high calibre anhydrite free-flowing floor screed binder is meticulously manufactured in the UK and makes for the perfect supplement to underfloor heating. Having been established more than five decades ago, Francis Flower’s extensive experience in the milling, grinding, blending and storage of fine mineral powders has secured

itself as a company you can trust to provide quality results. The business has worked comprehensively to process and stock an impressive range of products, which includes milled anhydrite, marble, bentonite and granulated & powdered minerals (as well as Gypsol anhydrite screed binder). The leading brand has fast become a staple product in the development and innovation of liquid screed. When compared to the more outdated and traditional flooring systems, Gypsol has proven to be more advantageous in a multitude of ways. Not only is it significantly cheaper, less problematic and more environmentally friendly (as

it is constructed predominantly from a recycled material), it is also incredibly easy to apply. Paul Pepper, Managing Director of Francis Flower, commented, “The Gypsol product is a highly useful, innovative creation. Since introducing the product two and a half years ago we have received a fantastic amount of interest and sales have soared. We provide the basis for your company to produce a high quality floor screed and we create the demand in the market for you to sell into.” Architects, designers, main contractors, self-builders and flooring contractors utilise this specialist ingredient in order to effectively enhance their industrial projects. The incorporation of Gypsol over underfloor heating systems lessens costs and increases sustainability, and tests have confirmed that those using anhydrite screeds can improve

the co-efficient performance of an underfloor heating system by up to 25%. In addition, flow temperatures can be reduced by 40 to 50 Celsius (compared to the temperatures required for radiator systems). A recent addition to the Francis Flower portfolio is the Solida System, which is designed to provide a whole house heating solution by combining existing technologies and the Gypsol based flowing anhydrite floor screeds. The process involves incorporating Gypsol screed in separating floors in order to maximise desirability, asset value and useable space. “This system enables the screed to go on the first floor on timber floors, ensuring homeowners encapsulate underfloor

heating effectively,” Paul explained. “As a sustainable alternative to radiators, the Solida System improves a house builder’s green credentials massively as it reduces energy use. We now have a number of customers using the Solida System, including the renowned timber frame manufacturers Oakworth Homes.” Gypsol will be showcased at many trade shows over the course of the next two years, as the company has confirmed its attendance at five homebuilding and renovating shows. They will also be making an appearance at the Build Show 2015 in Birmingham in October and the GreenBuild Expo in Manchester this November. Titanium Products Ltd., was formed in 1990 to supply non-standard welded Titanium tubing using imported Commercially Pure strip which is rolled down in the UK to meet specific tube wall thickness requirements. Strip supplies at 0.4 & 0.5mmT are available using domestic rolling and annealing facilities to meet customers’ requirements in widths from 10 to 180mm. In support of the UK based heat exchanger industry, TPL manufactures return bends, pipe fittings, flanges, valves, stub ends etc. and machined components in Titanium, Titanium alloys, Stainless Steel and Nickel alloys are supplied to customers’ drawings. Heat exchanger tube for shell/tube units are available for swimming pool heaters for instance. Titanium cathodes and coated anodes are available in all product forms for cathodic protection, water purification, hypochlorite production etc. Using our own tube supplies, Titanium sheathed water heaters for domestic and industrial applications are manufactured by the Backer Electric Co. Ltd. to the latest issue of BSEN 60335-2-73. Stocks available for next day delivery include 3kW/240V for domestic hot water cylinders and 12/18kW heaters for 415V supply for which the main market is microbreweries. Our heaters are designed to be suitable for Copper and Steel cylinders to reduce the effects of galvanic corrosion in the latter. Titanium heaters have considerable advantages over Nickel alloy heaters in terms of longevity and energy efficiency in hard water areas with reports of service lives in excess of three times those for Nickel alloy sheathed heaters. Lower energy costs are due to the use of thinner wall tube and the reduced tendency for limescale build up on Titanium surfaces.

OMEGA’S new series of CE Compliant ultrasonic leak detector features an ultrasonic sound range of 20 to 100kHz. Leaking air or gas is generally considered to be viscous flow and as the flow velocity increases, the frequency of the ultrasonic sound emitted will become higher. The HHLT-1R amplifies and converts these sounds to frequencies and levels that the human ear can hear. The HHLT-1T transmitter can supply ultrasonic signals for locations where the gas/air leak

does not have sufficient pressure to create an ultrasonic sound. The HHLT-1 series is ideal for pressure and vacuum system leak detection exhaust, system tanks and pipe leak testing as well as steam trap inspection and gas leaks in general.
