Challenging ideas. Developing wisdom. Launching a meaningful career.

At Soka, every learning experience connects with a clear purpose. From core courses that examine global challenges through multiple lenses, to hands-on programs that put theory into practice, you’ll see how each element builds toward your growth as a global citizen and engaged professional.

Here are a few of the unique ways you’ll build knowledge and career-ready skills.

LEARNING CLUSTERS

Each winter, you’ll have the chance to participate in a three-week research seminar called a Learning Cluster. As part of a small group, you’ll investigate a topic that matters to you, like nuclear disarmament, climate justice, or cultural storytelling. You’ll then apply your skills in research and synthesis to produce a final project that reflects your collaborative learning.

DIALOGUE-DRIVEN LEARNING

With an average class size of 12 students, Soka’s small classes encourage discovery and place dialogue at the center of your educational experience. You and your peers are encouraged to become active co-creators of learning, rather than passive recipients of knowledge, so that you build the communication and critical thinking abilities that define effective leaders.

These aren’t separate programs you might participate in. They’re the integrated foundation of how learning happens at Soka.

LANGUAGE AND CULTURE PROGRAM

Every Soka student learns a new language as part of earning their degree. You can choose from Chinese, French, Japanese, or Spanish. You can also get tutoring, access resources, and attend film screenings or other cultural events at the Global Language and Culture Center.

STUDY ABROAD

Following intensive language preparation, you’ll spend a semester abroad during your third year, with all costs covered as part of your regular Soka expenses. You’ll immerse yourself in another culture and apply your language skills in real-world settings, practicing the values of a global citizen while developing a cultural fluency that opens doors worldwide.

AMBASSADOR ANDREW YOUNG DIALOGUE LAB

True dialogue requires more than talking: It calls us to listen, reflect, and grow. That idea is at the heart of the Andrew Young Dialogue Lab, where you’ll practice the art of meaningful conversation and learn to engage with openness and respect. Whether it’s in the classroom or at a community event, Soka’s approach to dialogue empowers you to bridge divides, challenge assumptions, and connect across cultures.

SOKA INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL SOLUTIONS (SIGS)

Join a worldwide network of changemakers working on critically important issues. Whether you’re learning how to build a more sustainable world, foster peace and reconciliation between cultures, educate the next generation of global citizens, or advocate for a world free of nuclear weapons, SIGS will connect you with international experts and give you the tools to take meaningful action.

SENIOR CAPSTONE

In your fourth year at Soka, you’ll research a topic of your choice, diving deep into a subject you’re passionate about and creating an original project based on your findings. For many students, the capstone project becomes a springboard into future graduate studies and careers.
