The 2024-2025 Facade Improvement grant, a collaboration between the City of Smithville and the Chamber. Seven businesses in the city were awarded a portion of the $5,000 grant. They were Main Street Gifts, Ralph-Land Realty, Molly Todd Realty, Woodwise Construction, Southern Direct Primary Care, Serenity Star, and Golden Girls Boutique.

The program is structured as a 50/50 matching grant for improvements to the exterior of commercial properties within the city limits of Smithville, Texas.

The intent of the program is to:

·Encourage commercial property owners to make visible improvements to their businesses; ·Enhance the unique character and aesthetic appearance of commercial properties;

·Promote and maintain the architectural beauty of commercial properties in the downtown commercial district.

Grant recipients will be reimbursed for fifty percent (50%) of the cost of eligible expenses up to $1,000.00 upon satisfactory completion of the work. Ex: Your project’s total cost was $1,800.00. You could be eligible for up to $900.00 from the program.

Chamber members in good standing are invited to host our popular monthly Chamber Mixer, held on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5 PM to 7 PM. This is a no-fee sponsorship opportunity that allows your business to shine as the exclusive featured location for the evening, with up to 85 guests enjoying your space.

This initiative is a significant step toward addressing workforce needs while fostering economic growth and innovation in this region.

The City of Smithville, Texas is thrilled to announce that the Community Engagement Coordinator, Jose Rivera, will be working with Alta Yevett Alexander, Alexander Enterprise, to embark on the new Southside History Project.

A proud Smithville native, Alexander has returned to her hometown with a mission to uplift and celebrate Smithville's rich history and culture, specifically focusing on the southside community.

Alexander brings a wealth of experience, having led numerous professional programs and initiatives aimed at benefiting minority communities across Central Texas. Most recently, she served as Co-Chair of the Our Future 35 Community Steering Committee for the IH35 Cap and Stitch project; and, was the key contributor and coordinator of historical accounts for the reconstruction of the JJ Seabrook Bridge in Austin.

The City of Smithville is proud to have Yevett on board leading this project, and look forward to the resulting positive impacts to the community. Questions can be directed to Jose Rivera at City Hall (512 237 3282).
