I

n my lifetime, I have been fortunate enough to witness several amazing innovations in the field of technology within the automotive industry. There is no doubt that today the vehicles have become much more advanced and safer.

Today, as we enjoy the advantages of several technological advancements in the automotive industry, we must recognise and honour the efforts put in by several engineers, who are the backbone.

The Lumax DK Jain Group is blessed to have several amazingly talented engineers who are coming out with new innovations and providing opportunities to file patents for such innovations, thereby enhancing the Brand Value of the Organisation. We as a organisation have always stayed ahead of our competitors and we must continue this tradition, especially when the Indian automotive industry is going through a transformative phase.

Today it has become important for us to focus on Zero Defect, Zero Effect.

Our new and innovative products must be well researched and designed with no defects thereby leaving no effect on the society and environment.

The recent inauguration of R&D and Testing centre at Pune in collaboration with our partner Cornaglia, Italy is an acknowledgement that we have strengthened our local capabilities and provide indigenous solutions to our OEM customers. Similarly, it will be important to work closely with the suppliers to ensure there is holistic growth and development within the automotive community. Lumax will always be grateful towards our longstanding partner Stanley, who have been providing us technological support from the past three decades.

In times to come, our aim should be to strengthen our collaborations and build on such relationships.

Across the globe, technology is playing a vital role in turning the car into a ‘connected car’. Extensive research is currently undertaken to ensure the

connected cars are safe and secure from a physical and digital perspective.

This is just one aspect of the future that lies ahead of us. Inida is also becoming a global automotive research hub.

Similar advancements are being done at various levels with major push from the Indian Government towards Electric Mobility. These are not challenges that lie ahead of us, rather opportunities that we must encash upon. In this journey from being Good to Great, we will have to constantly innovate and develop world class products and services.

Ferdinand Porsche once said, “I couldn’t find the sports car of my dreams, so I built it myself”. I will urge all the engineers to have the same spirit among themselves and put in their best efforts to develop something that is not only innovative but inspirational.

Ever wondered how would our lives be without Technology? Starting every morning, we use or consume things that are resultant of innovative technology developed/invented to make the lives of people easier and more comfortable.

Even after seven decades of being one of the major players in the Indian automotive industry, Lumax DK Jain group continuously focuses on development and alignment of new advanced technological solutions for the Indian and global market. The idea is to be Future Ready, to stay ahead. In the past decade, the country has seen major transformation in the automotive landscape and it is expected that more such transformations will continue in the coming decade as well.

In view of this, Lumax DK Jain group has put thrust and focus on R&D, global technology partnerships and development of advanced technological automotive products. The group includes 3 government certified R&D centre and 1 overseas design centre. This year, alongwith its partner Cornaglia, Italy, Lumax established one more R&D centre at Pune to focus on products such as Air Intake Systems, Urea Tanks, Other Automotive Tanks, CAC Ducts and Other Blow Moulded Parts. The centre will also give boost to local design, development and testing capabilities to provide localised solutions to OEMs. Apart from that, the group will soon have another design centre being established in USA.

3rd Innovation Day – Celebrating & Showcasing the Best of Lumax On the occasion of Engineers Day – 15th September, Lumax DK Jain group has been celebrating ‘Innovation Day’ every year from the last three years. Continuing with the tradition, the 3rd Innovation Day was held at Gurugram with a product display from all the Lumax entities. Mr C V Raman, Sr EO - R&D, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) was the Chief Guest at the event. The one-day event was also graced by Mr Sandeep Raina, DDVM, EN1L and Mr Rahul Dang, DPM, EN1L from MSIL.

Mr D K Jain, Chairman, Mr Deepak Jain, CMD, Mr Anmol Jain, MD and Mr Vineet Sahni, CEO & Sr. ED interacted with the Engineers at Lumax and motivated them to focus on innovation and become future ready. In the exhibition, Lumax Industries Limited showcased Head Light and Tail Light designs highlighting the new technological innovations that were developed indigenously. On the other hand, entities under the Lumax Auto Technologies Limited banner displayed Lights, Metallic Products, Seat Structures, Emission Products, Body Control Modules, etc.

Lumax DK Auto Industries Limited – Accessories Division displayed Illuminated Logo, Car Organiser, Child Seat, First Aid Kit, Emergency Kit, Weather Deflectors, Wheel Arch Cladding, Arm Rest, Door Edge Guard, Mood Lights, Air Inflator, Combo Vacuum Cleaner, Car Mobile Charger, Car Mobile Holder, Scuff Plate, Bumper Corner Protector, Nonilluminated & Illuminated Scuff Plates, etc. Whereas Lumax Mannoh Allied Technologies Pvt. Ltd. displayed AT/CVT Selection Levers, AMT/SBW Levers, MT Levers, Knobs and Spare Tyre Carriers.

Lumax Gill-Austem Technologies Pvt. Ltd. showcased Seat Structures, Seat Recliners, Seat Height Adjuster, Seat Tracks, Head Rest Assembly, Seat Latches, Floor Latches, Chassis, Swing Arm and Trailing Arm. Whereas Lumax Auto Technologies Limited â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Manesar showcased Gesture Roof Lamp, 4W DRL & Sequential Light, 2W Sequential Light and Body Control Module. Exterior Door Handles, Louvers, Cup Holders and Door Sash were displayed by Lumax Auto Technologies Ltd being developed in collaboration with IO Industry Co Ltd., Japan. Other than this, Telematics Products and Oxygen Sensors were showcased by Lumax Ituran Telematics Pvt. Ltd. and Lumax FAE Technologies Pvt. Ltd. respectively.

Mr Shailnder Kumar from Lumax DK Auto Industries Limited, Manesar was recognised for his efforts towards filing Patents and took away 7 awards. The forum was to encourage, motivate and get the innovative minds together at one platform to inspire each other and work enthusiastically to develop more innovative solutions.

The event concluded successfully after a round of discussions by the Engineers at Lumax with the top management.

At Gandhinagar, ACMA organised the ACMA Value Chain Summit in May, 2018. Gujarat Chief Minister Mr Vijay Rupani was the Chief Guest at the event. Mr Deepak Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, Lumax Industries Limited and Chairman of ACMA - Northern Region was also present at the two-day summit. The summit provided a platform for the auto component manufacturers to showcase their products to the OEMs operating at Gujarat. The event was important for Lumax to make its presence felt in Gujarat which is expected to be a major state to focus on in the coming years. Alongwith Lighting Products, several other products such as Swing Arm, Trailing Arm, Chassis, Integrated Plastic Modules, Intake Ducts, Telematics Products, Oxygen Sensors, Seat Structures & Mechanisms, etc. were displayed during the exhibition.

Other Technology Shows Earlier this year, Lumax DK group participated at two important technology shows organised by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) at Gurugram and Gandhinagar. In January, 2018, ACMA organised a Technology Show at Maruti Suzuki with few of its key vendors st their plant in Gurugram. Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, CEO, Maruti Suzuki India was the Chief Guest.

Representing the Lumax DK Jain group, Lumax Auto Technologies and Lumax Cornaglia Auto Technologies showcased their innovative products at the event. It was the first time Oxygen Sensors and Telematics Products were showcased.

EVENTS ACMA NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INORGANIC GROWTH

Mr Deepak Jain, Chairman & Managing Director and Mr Vineet Sahni, CEO & Sr. Executive Director, Lumax Industries Limited were speakers at the National Conference on Inorganic Growth organised by ACMA in July, 2018. Sharing the success of long-term partnerships, challenges and ways to sustain. Among the several topics of discussion the focus remained on building alliances and layers of trust, clear structured communication, respect for cultural differences and corporate governance.Â

The apex body representing India’s auto component manufacturing industry, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), announced the appointment of Mr Deepak Jain, Chairman & Managing Director, Lumax Industries Ltd. as Vice President for the term 2018-19. The announcement was made at the 58th Annual Session of ACMA. Announcing the new leadership, ACMA Director General, Mr Vinnie Mehta, said, “Deepak Jain brings in considerable proficiency and leadership that will help advance the ACMA agenda.”

The Maruti Suzuki Supplier Welfare Association (MSSWA) unveiled its Newsletter - â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;SWANâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; at its first Knowledge seminar in September, 2018.

The knowledge seminar included presentations on Water Safety, HR & IR, Financial Prudence and Sustainable and Clean Mobility, Panel Discussion on the topic Future Ready and Q&A sessions. Lumax Cornaglia Auto Technologies Private Limited inaugurated a R&D and Testing Centre at Chakan, Pune. The centre was inaugurated

by Mr Pier Mario Cornaglia, Chairman, Cornaglia, Italy and Mr Deepak Jain, Director, Lumax Auto Technologies Limited in September, 2018.

JIPM-TPM 1ST STAGE ASSESSMENT FOR EXCELLENCE IN CONSISTENT TPM COMMITMENT

The first assessment of TPM was held at Lumax Industries Limited, Bengaluru in July, 2018.

The JIPM auditors Mr Yoshitaka Murase and Mr Shigendu Namura were welcomed by Mr Anmol Jain, Managing Director and Mr Vineet Sahni, CEO & Sr. ED, Lumax Industries Limited.

JIPM first stage assessment for Excellence in Consistency was held at Lumax Industries Limited, Pantnagar in July, 2018. The assessment was conducted by Prof.

Yoshitaka Murase and Prof. Shigenobu Nomura from JIPM.

1ST BUSINESS VISION MEET – LUMAX ANCILLARY LIMITED

Mr PSVS Raju, Sr. VP, Lumax DK Auto Industries Limited, Pantnagar and AD Team attended an exhibition in Chennai organized by Renault Nissan. Mr Hakan Dogu, Alliance Global Vice President and Deputy Managing Director, Alliance Aftersales chaired the event that focused on making India a Global Hub for Accessories Products.

TPM LAUNCH CEREMONY Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) - a journey towards excellence started for Lumax DK Jain Group in 2007-08. Lumax DK Auto Industries Limited, Pantnagar was the first plant to receive the TPM Excellence award - five years after it was launched at the plant. Soon after this, it was decided to take TPM to all our plants.

Understanding the need of continuous improvement and contribution of everyone, several trainings and empowerment initiatives are being organised to encourage employees to think, learn and improve. Technical Training Centre (TTC) incorporation in all manufacturing plants, Dedicated Technical Trainers introduction, Best TPM circle competition, suggestion schemes, Kaizen management system, Best inspector certification and QCC are currently being organised. New initiatives such as Interplant Best TPM circle competition, benchmarking interplant visits for knowledge sharing and Skill Champion usage for

across skill level enhancement will also be implemented in the coming months.

Other than this, Lumax Industries Limited participated at the 18th TPM National Conference 2018 themed ‘TPM Benchmarking - Powering Industrial Competency’ in September, 2018. The conference had several technical sessions highlighting case studies on TPM, Value Engineering, HR and it’s approach, Principles and techniques.

Open House Meet was held in September, 2018 at Lumax DK Auto Industries Limited, Pantnagar. The purpose of Open House Meet is to interact with employees in an open forum to listen their problems suggestions and update them about plant performance and new activities. The event included broadcasting of a safety video as “Safety is First” followed by monthly sales trend, SAP rating, Customer performance, Defect Analysis and Quality rating by Bajaj Auto Limited, Pantnagar. IATF Internal Audit – Certification Course and Training was conducted in Lumax Gill-Austem Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Pune in August, 2018 by auditor Mr Pradeep Gharpure. STARTER KIT DISTRIBUTION

Lumax Charitable Foundation - the CSR arm of Lumax DK Jain group continued its endeavour towards upliftment of the marginalised. Keeping its focus on Educational initiatives, Stationery, Books and Uniforms were provided to the children of the schools adopted by Lumax across the country.

LIFE SKILL PROGRAM

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

In Life Skill Program with children from government schools, Lumax in partnership with Monk-E-Wise focused on Hygeine & Healthy Eating, Decision Making and Respect. The aim of the program was to teach children the importance of healthy living, making decisions alone and making them familiarised with the concept of Respecting Self and others. In future the program will focus on handling emotions, time management, problem solving and learnings from Gandhi.

As part of infrastructure development in Education, Lumax renovated Government primary schools at Pantnagar and constructed Toilet for Boys at a government primary school in Gurugram.

LAUNCH OF CAREER COUNSELLING PROGRAM IN PUNE

Scaling up the Career Counselling Program in Pune, Lumax along with its implementation partner - FUEL - Friends Union for Energising Lives launched it in schools of Chakan and Bhosari area in Pune, helping students with its career counselling program. The program entails aptitude tests, orientation, one-on-one counselling sessions.

CANCER AWARENESS SESSIONS FOR WOMEN WORKERS IN PLANTS

BLOOD DONATION CAMP

The other major focus area for Lumax Charitable Foundation is Healthcare in which Cancer Awareness, Screening & Detection Camps and Cataract Screening Camps were organised at villages nearby our plants across the country. In the last quarter 4 Cancer Awareness, Screening & Detection camps were organised in Dharuhera, Bawal and Rewari in which more than 350 patients were screened and 2 patients were diagnosed with Cancer. While 5 Cataract Screening camps were organised in which approximately 1000 patients were covered, more than 650 recieved spectacles, more than 600 recieved medicines and 16 Cataract Surgeries were done.

CRECHE INAUGURATION Owing to its belief that people are its biggest asset and focusing on inclusivity, providing its women employees an environment where they are able to accomodate both their personal and professional lives. When we take care of our employees, they take care of our business, with that thought, the Creche facility was inaugurated
