Then it continuedinhighschool with aP1(Yellowbelt) after aseasonofIKMFstyle Krav Maga at aKMAschool until it closed. After that Iwantedtolearn more andpurchased apileof books to startlearningincluding but notlimitedtothe three manuals: Savate Assaut &Combat. Ju-jutsu (the instructionbook forJujutsu Kai, astyle influenced by Durewall Jiujiutsua style that beganwith theverysamebooklet Ionce read), andComplete Krav Maga by Darren Levine andJohn Witman with foreword by former MMAChampionBassRutten. Ithenproceeded to practice with friends andfamily, including aftera requestfrommymother practicingtechniquesfromthe Krav Maga book with herfor a year andtesting techniques with my father whom youwill read about on thenextpage, andcarried on fromthere.

In this bookyou will learna fewbasic methodsofself-defence.

Self-defence is not thesamething as amartial arts (artsofwar sometimes includingthe useoftraditionalormodernweapons and oftenwith religious components) or combat sports whereone dedicates alarge portionoflife, risksa varietyofserious injuries such as CTE, jointdamage, as well as otherserious impact or long-terminjuriesand practices foryears to be champion.

If someoneislooking forsomething to practice ashorttimein ordertoprevent injury andhas no intentiontocompete, this matchespoorly.Other reasons maybe: Limitededucationtime, Religious or Philosophical reasonsorHealth reasonsetc.

What wouldyou teacha security guard, police officer, soldier or civilianifI gave youperhaps just afew days or weeks?

Theresultishopefully theappropriate design of aself-defence course.

Self-defence is twothings.

First, as asystem/course it is somethingdesignedtobe:

A. Simple,using heavymotor skills.

B. Be useablebya non-athleteand

C. Quickand easy to learnand Functionalwithrelatively little practice.

(Thus suitablefor people with limitedtrainingtimesuchas security guards, police, andsoldiers, etc)

This mini-bookisdesignedfor civilianone andtwo daycourses. Thefocus is on gettingaway.

Second, it is alegal term.Tobeself-defenceit:

A. Needstobeinresponsetoanattackorimmediate threat of attack.

B. Cannot be arevenge action such as following someone whohit youearliertohit them now and

C. Theuse of forcemustbereasonableinproportiontothe threat

*Not legaladvice, learnyourlocal laws

Notes

Learning self-defence doesn’t make youRambo.

Your actions aresolelyyour ownresponsibility.

That includes thesafetyofyourpracticepartner.

Some techniques maynot well suitedtoyou as apersonhereor elsewhere. Practisewithresistancetomakesurethe move works foryou.

Always remember, hewho becomesthe very thinghehas fought hastruly suffered finaldefeat.

If your strategy is to run, canyou actually outrunthe attacker? Practicesprints,long-distance running andobstaclecourses. (Alsolearna fewtechniques on how to getout of attempts to grab or holdyou down,(likeinthisbooklet) andconsidera fewgood escaperoutes in advance)

Self-defence weapons : If availablethingslikeGuns, Knives,Tasersetc areuseful.

However, in many placessuchare illegal, in thoseplacesthe following maybeallowed: Sturdy walkingstick,Self-defence spray, metalpen,Personalalarm etc. Learnyourlocal laws.

(Keepinmindthatweapons youbring butare notproficientwith maybeusedagainst you.)

(I will notbesharing armedtechniquesinthisparticular manual)

Principles

Hand to hand.

Your firstlineofdefence is to avoiddanger.

Walk with confidence, bring friends, take asafer route, runaway, andyou mayarm yourselfinaccordancewith what thelawsin your country allow.

Second is de-escalation, when possible, talktothe person as if theirfriendand trytomakethemrethink thesituation.

(But be carefulnot to come offromantic or condescending)

Thirdisactivedefence,strikehardand fast,apply theappropriate techniqueand getaway.

We mustn’tact as if theworld wasaswewisheditwere, butasit actually is.

Once runningtry to breakthe lineofsight and“disappear”.

Perhapsget lost amongthe shelvesofa storeorsneak into the personnelonlyareaand askfor help.Ifthere aresecurity guards contact them, ifthere is apolicestationnearbyrun into it.
