Late for school
Sam was late for school. It was his first day at his new school in Stockholm.
The school was big and old. It was full of stairs and big windows.

Sam found his classroom.
The door was closed. He knocked at the door.
‘Yes?’
It was his teacher, Mrs. Jensen. Her voice sounded kind.
‘It’s me, Sam’, he said. ‘The new kid.
I’m a bit late, sorry’.
The door opened.
‘Don’t worry, Sam’, said Mrs. Jensen.
‘We were just getting started. Take a seat. You can sit next to Matilda’. found hittade knocked knackade teacher lärare voice röst kind snäll, vänlig take a seat sätt dig ner

She pointed at a girl with long, dark hair.
The girl smiled at him.
Sam smiled back.
Then he tripped and almost fell over a football.

‘Liam!’ said Mrs. Jensen.
‘How many times have I told you not to bring your football into the classroom?
Leave it with me, please.
You may have it back after school’.
‘Alright’.
Liam gave the ball to his teacher.
Sam walked up to Matilda. ‘Hi, Sam’, said the girl. ‘I’m Matilda.
And that’s my brother, Liam’.
Sam looked at Matilda. She had big, dark eyes.
She is wise, he thought to himself. Definitely wise.

He always did that, thinking to himself. He couldn’t help it. And when he saw Matilda, he felt that she was the same.

Perhaps they could be friends? He could use a friend.
‘Here’, Matilda said.
‘You can look in my book if you like’.
‘Thanks’, he whispered.
Maybe it will be okay, he thought to himself. Maybe it won’t happen again.

The map room
‘Time for a group project’, said Mrs. Jensen.
‘The topic is Save the planet’.
‘We’d better start right now’, someone said from the back of the classroom.
‘We’re already a bit late, you know’.
Sam looked around. The girl talking had black hair and round glasses. She was holding a small toy cat in her hands.

Mrs. Jenson continued, ‘Somewhere quiet.’

‘So, where are we going?’ Sam said.
He followed the two girls up the stairs.
The school looks like a museum, he thought. Or maybe Hogwarts.

‘It’s super old, no one uses it. But I like it there’.
‘You have an English accent’, Sam said.
‘You sound like Hermione from Harry Potter’.
‘My mum is English, and my dad used to live in London’, she said.
We speak a lot of English at home.
Do you have English family, too?’
‘No’, he said.
‘But my mums wanted me to go to an international school. We’ve been moving a lot.
What about you?’ he said and looked up at Zelda.
‘My dad’s from the Caribbean’, said Zelda.
‘I speak English with him and Swedish with my mum’.
‘That must be cool’, said Sam.

Sam’s Secret ingår i läromedelsserien Team English.

Hi! My name is Melissa, and I wrote this activity book. I am from the USA. I grew up in a state called Pennsylvania. Maybe you have heard of Philadelphia? That’s our most famous city. You can see Pennsylvania on the map – it’s under New York. Now I live in Sweden and teach English at a school like yours! I like to read, write, and sing. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family and friends.
In this book, you will meet Team English USA! You will meet characters from all around the United States like New York, Texas and Hawaii. They like to do things that you might like to do too, like spend time with family, play sports, eat their favorite food and hang out with their friends.
I love learning more about Sweden, and you will learn more about the USA in this book!

I want to tell you about what I do every day.
In the morning, I wake up early and get ready for school. I eat breakfast with my dad. He works from home, so he makes me breakfast. Next, I get dressed. I wear my favorite shirt every day. The last thing I do in the morning is feed Bucky. Sometimes I forget, and dad gets mad. Then he feeds Bucky for me, so don’t worry!
I take a yellow bus to school. It picks me up from the corner. My friend Jason takes the same bus, and we sit together in the back. He sits in the window seat, and I sit next to him.

At school, I have a class meeting first. We listen to the school news on the speakers, and we say the pledge of allegiance. Then, our class has math and English. Then it is time for the best part of the day – lunch! We eat our lunch in our classroom, at our desks. Jason’s mom packs his lunch for him.
We have recess and play on the playground. I love to play wall ball during recess. We have three more classes after lunch.

In the evening, I help my parents cook dinner. I make pasta, rice, hamburgers, and lots of other things. We eat dinner together and talk about our day.

At night, I have a routine to get ready for bed. I go to the bathroom, take a shower, brush my teeth, and wash my face. I put on my pajamas and get into bed. I listen to stories to help me fall asleep.

Activity Book
