Välkommen till Wings – green! Wings – green består av två elevböcker: Textbook och Workbook. I varje bok finns det fem sektioner. I Textbook får du följa med Simon och hans pappa på en resa till tre världsdelar. Under resans gång besöker de nya städer och träffar nya människor. I den första sektionen presenterar Simon sin hemstad Manchester. I de övriga sektionerna presenteras de städer som han och hans pappa besöker. Städerna ligger alla i länder där engelska är ett av de officiella språken. Varje sektion har också ett tema: resor, släkt och familj, skolan, fritid och vänskap samt Afrikas vilda djur. Du får lära dig många nya ord och uttryck!
Mycket att välja på I varje sektion finns texter av olika slag: dialoger, faktatexter, berättelser, dagboksutdrag och musiktexter. Texterna anknyter till den stad som presenteras och till sektionens tema. Ordlistorna finns bredvid texterna för att du snabbt ska hitta de ord du behöver. För att du ska kunna arbeta självständigt med Wings – green finns efter varje text hänvisningar till de uppgifter i Workbook som är lämpliga att göra i anslutning till just den texten. Allt som du kan läsa i Textbook är på engelska. Det är för att du ska få möjlighet att läsa och öva så mycket som möjligt på engelska. En enda sak är på svenska, nämligen utvärderingen, som du hittar sist i varje sektion. Där är frågorna på svenska för att du ska kunna utvärdera ditt arbete utan att behöva tänka på hur man skriver på engelska. Lycka till med arbetet med Wings – green! Författarna

Welcome to Manchester Hello! I am Simon Lambert. Welcome to the wonderful city of Manchester, my home town. I am 12 years old and I’m in year eight at Abraham Moss High School here in Manchester. I have quite a lot of friends at school and also in my local area. My best friend’s name is Hugh Steadman. He is in the same class as me at school and he also lives near my dad’s house. My dad’s name is Michael and I live with him most of the time. We live in a terraced house with three bedrooms just outside the city centre. Dad works as a journalist for a big newspaper here in the city. My mum, Victoria, teaches science at a local college. She has a nice large flat which is close to my school. I have an older brother called Anson, but he lives in Australia so I don’t see him very much. He has just started a job at a zoo north of Brisbane. I hope to be able to visit him soon. My parents are divorced but they both live here in the city. My mum has got re-married to a man named Paul who is my stepfather. I spend every other weekend and most holidays with them. I stay with them at other times, too. My dad’s job means a lot of travelling and I can’t always go with him. Next week, however, I am going to follow him on a trip around the world. It’s going to be great! Manchester The city of Manchester is one of the main cities in England. It is situated close to the west coast about 250 km north of London. There are lots of things you can do and see in the city. There are plenty of interesting buildings to visit especially in the harbour area. The Manchester International Festival is a very popular event which takes place every year. At the festival you can check out what’s new in the art scene or listen to a great music group. Many people in the city also do sports. You can play everything from ice hockey to football or you can go and watch the games. There are eight professional football teams in the city. The most well known are Manchester United and Manchester City. There is a good ice hockey team too called Manchester Phoenix.
