POP UP AT THE PYRAMID: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Our local community hub The Pyramid in Anderston, is running ‘The Pyramid Pop Up,’ a community event for primary school children and their families, and is calling for volunteers to give a few hours on Thursdays, to help distribute weekly activity packs and goody bags.

The Pyramid has been awarded a grant from the Scottish Government Wellbeing Fund to run the project for approximately 500 children and their families for the next 10 weeks. “Each week, we will run a pop up from The Pyramid to give each child an activity pack and a goody bag of fruit, healthy snacks and treats”, said Ailsa MacKenzie, Development Officer from The Pyramid at Anderston. “The activity packs will have associated online content and demonstrations - most of the children can access online activities and we can support those who currently cannot.

“We will also have a Toy Swap of toys, boardgames and jigsaws , thanks to substantial support from Gibsons Games. Alongside, we’re running a free community pick up point, with essential toiletries, baby products and nappies, period products and food basics for families who need them. We can also provide information about other sources of help and support. We would very much welcome any donations of essential items for the pick up point, which can be brought to The Pyramid between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Thursdays.

“The Pyramid Pop Up is supporting families with primary age children in our area, and so far we have lined up packs with arts and crafts; playing cards and magic tricks with a demo/tutorial from magic champion Billy Reid; modelling clay and a demo from Jim Parkyn (Aardman Animation lead modelmaker); a pack in association with Woodcraft Folk; comic book making, a design and make your own chocolate bar pack; a maths and puzzle pack with Kjartan Poskitt and more.

“We appreciate this is a difficult time to ask for help but if you can spare a donation or a few hours on Thursdays between 10.30am – 4pm to help to run the project, it would be very much appreciated. Please get in touch by emailing ailsa@thepyramid.scot.”
